Weaving her story into how she has evolved into a mindful traveller has been truly inspiring for me, giving me the courage to stop feeling shame or regret for past behaviour so that I can embrace a new way forward. I love to travel and Nina has shown me how I can do this with an ethics of care for a more sustainable future. It's not about stopping to travel but how to travel by slowing down and immersing yourself in the place and its community.
So many travel books inspire wanderlust and encourage us to leave our homes to find ourselves.
This one, rather artfully, did the opposite.
The Mindful Traveller encourages you to spend moments finding wonder at home, and then when you do venture abroad again, to do so with a new, and more powerful mindset.
Enjoyed this. An honest and compelling account of a travel writer's struggle to reconcile her desire to see the world with her newfound drive to save it. Ultimately, it's about gaining an appreciation of home and the wonders in our own backyards, as well as rethinking how to spend our tourism dollars in ways that benefit local communities when we travel further afield.
⭐⭐.5 This book as some amazing messaging and motivational sections. As someone so passionate about our planet and preserving its beauty for the future generations I appreciated the underlying message however, felt it very gloomy and pessimistic until the last few chapters.
I loved this book. I don't share every personal belief but Nina's writing is beautiful and warm. I highly recommend this for travellers and those simply travelling through life.
