Hockey players and ice skaters do not mix.Tell that to the new bane of my existence, Olivia Tyler-Branch, figure skater turned NHL skating coach. She knows her stuff, but I can't let her past my defenses.I fell hard for her once before...Now I need to be focused on the game not on Olivia’s soft honey blonde hair, her feisty competitive streak, or the heartbreak behind her eyes. The two of us are hot enough to melt ice, but the stakes are too high.A relationship between us could ruin everything we’ve spent our lives working for. There is only one option. Liv has got to go. But will my heart survive it?Author This is a STANDALONE Calico Cove hockey romance. Dillon is a scorching hot hockey player who always shares his dessert and Liv is feisty figure skater who can take a puck to the butt cheek. These two burn up the ice!
This book was completely delightful and so much fun to read. Considering I'm not a sports romance fan, it didn't bother me in the slightest. It had perfect banter, sexual chemistry that leapt off the pages and Calico Cove; my favourite fictional town ever!
"The truth was, I liked her not knowing me. Right now, I was just a guy, flirting with a girl, wondering if he might get laid."
Dillion and Olivia meet at the local ice rink for some morning practice. Olivia is passing through while Dillon is visiting home till he heads back to Portland. As the captain of an NHL hockey team, he's used to the lack of anonymity. So you can imagine his fascination when this skater has no idea who he is.
Ironically Olivia is also hiding her identity. A former professional figure skater she's trying to establish a new career. So when Dillon and Olivia find themselves working together. That stolen kiss in Calico Cove must remain a distant memory.
"You should be wearing the captain’s jersey." "That’s not going to happen." "You gotta be careful with the sensitive male ego, Coach. You’re going to hurt my feelings." "Or you could grow a pair."
These two can try to act indifferent, but off the ice neither Dillon or Olivia can stay away. There's a lot at stake, but their interactions are so bloody cute and funny and their feelings genuine. Both are extremely competitive and raw. The amount of times I found myself smiling was ridiculous.
Hailey Shore is officially my one click for an always impressive and satisfying rom com read. There has not been one book I have not enjoyed. The best thing? I cannot wait to re read every single one. I can't recommend enough. 🩷
I do love a Sports romance and this was a great read. Dillon Le Coeur (The Heart) is Captain of the New England Bruisers NHL team and when he is not playing hockey, he's back in Calico Cove helping out at his sister's bar.
Liv , Olivia Tyler-Branch (26), had a career as a successful Figure Skater , just on the precipice of huge achievements when something happens that changes her life direction and she finds herself on a new career path.
A brief connection with a hot bartender turns into a forbidden relationship when the hot bar tender turns out to be the Captain of the NHL Team that she has been brought in to help coach.
Liv and Dillon had a lot of chemistry but Dillon messes up big time. A decent grovel went a long way to redeeming him and I did enjoy watching him go to great lengths to win his girl back...because she always was his girl.
I liked them both and the story kept me turning the pages. This was a really enjoyable book with a good , strong story and excellent characters.
I wasn't sure how I felt about this at first but I really liked it. Dillion and Liv had such good chemistry. It was cute that they tried to stay away from each other even though they clearly just wanted to tear each others clothes off. He was so dumb and I loved him. Thinking that he can't have hockey and a girlfriend, he's so silly. Liv was a strong character and I enjoyed that, she never shied away from the impact that being with Dillion could have on her career.
Calico Cove forever has my heart and I read every one as soon as they come out. 🥰 Unfortunately, the majority of the story is set outside of calico cove in this one, but I still enjoyed it. Both MCs were new to the CC world though, so it didn’t necessarily feel like it was set in the world of it. Not the biggest hockey romance person, but Hailey did a good job with it.
5 plus, plus, plus, plus for this one. If you're a fan of hockey romances or even if you're not a fan, you need to read this books.
Olivia or Liv and Dillon meet when she is on vacation in the small town of Calico Cove. Dillon is the very well known captain of his NHL hockey team, spending the summer back in his home town helping out his sister running the bar she owns. When they meet, Liv has no idea of who Dillon is and that's so refreshing for him he doesn't tell her. What Dillon doesn't know is Liv is just as famous. She was an Olympic gold winning pairs figure skater until her partner dropped her during one of their lifts and it was such a devastating accident it almost killed her and destroyed her figure skating career.
The sparks are bright and intense between these two but neither are ready for anything serious. Dillon's only focus is on his hockey career and Liv has a new job to go to in the fall. But eventually they give in only to discover much to their horror is Liv's new career is as the skating coach for Dillon's team. Any type of relationship is out of the question even though they truly long for each other. There is something sweet and special between them.
I loved every word of this book. Dillon and Liv are adorable together and every scene of them is so well done. I love how Liv has come back from tragedy to gain success at her new career. At first things are tough for her. The players aren't exactly pleased at having a woman coach. There is a scene that was brilliantly funny where she has them practicing to a Taylor Swift song and just picturing a group of pro hockey players doing figure skating moves to a Taylor Swift song really tickled my funny bone. But she gradually starts winning them over when they see results. And Dillon, as captain, is very supportive of her while refusing to acknowledge any kind of relationship but wanting her so badly. I also love how competitive and what a trash talker Liv is. She's such a wonderful heroine.
And while Dillon is frustrating at completing ruling out out any kind of relationship between them, is really hurting in his desire for her. At times you want to almost s.back him upside the head and tell him he can have both. But he's a stubborn guy.
Their story gets serious but in a wonderful 'can't put it down' way in the later half but it only makes the resolution that more satisfying at the end.
I love her Calico Cove series and really want more of them but now I want to also see what happens to want more of some of Dillon's teammates stories too.
If this review makes you want y to try this book, my job is done and I know you will love it as well. Although it's part of the Calico Cove series, it's not in a way. It stands on its own very well and fingers kind of crossed, it's the first book in a new series.
This book was SO GOOD!! I have dnfed so many books lately because I just couldn’t get into them or connect with the characters. But I was sucked into this immediately and finished it in one day. It was so well written. The banter between Dillon and Liv was extremely well done. I loved both characters but mostly Liv lol. Even though Dillon could act like a closed off jerk sometimes— I still loved the guy. There were no slow parts in this book. It was suspenseful, emotional and intense. I laughed, I cried— it was just so good!!
Puck Happens is part of the Calico Cove series by Hailey Shore. It features an entertaining enemies to lovers hockey romance between Dillon and Liv. Dillon Le Coeur is the Captain of a NHL hockey team, but he spends his off season in his hometown of Calico Cove helping his sister Wendy in her bar. While skating in the local rink he meets a mysterious, yet fast figure skater named Liv, in town on vacation while she waits for a new job to start. His attraction to her is immediate, and he’s drawn to the fact that she doesn’t know who he is. They share one hot kiss before she disappears, leaving no way to contact her. Dillon is sure he’ll never see her again. That is, until he meets the new skating coach for his team… Olivia Tyler-Branch. The pull between them is strong, but a relationship between could ruin both their careers. He needs to focus on hockey, but can he survive without her?
This book was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, which surprised me! Yes, there is steamy chemistry, and a good bit of tension and angst as they try to fight what is between them. However, there is a lot of deeper emotion explored in this story too. Liv is still dealing with both physical and emotional effects of a career-ending injury, and there are times when she is triggered that broke my heart. She also has to face misogyny in the workplace in such a way that I was yelling at my iPad. But in these hard moments, Dillon would shine and make me swoon and forget that he had did something to annoy me.😄 It was hard at times to watch him not realize his feelings. I loved watching the team as they began to gel into that “band of brothers” vibe, and there were several funny moments too. I’d love to see a story with Wendy and Novek! He wouldn’t be able to handle her.😂 I definitely recommend this entertaining, well-rounded book!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶🌶
If you guys know me you know I am a fan but re fan of Ice Hockey themed books, they can come in any trope and I will like them (well, not all) and this book is definitely going on my favorites list!!!!
The stories of these two main characters is explosive yet forbidden, her being the boys skating coach blew me away because I hadn't read anything like that before and I loved that too much, plus the team captain being lost for her plays more in my favor to say I liked this book.
It was an enjoyable read, entertaining and believe it or not spicy because those scenes were 🥵🔥!!!!!
What are you waiting for to read this book? Seriously, you won't regret it because it has everything that I like.
Thanks to the author & Candi kane PR for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review!!

When Dillion is home during the off-season in his Small town, he uses the local rink to stay in shape. When he gets there one day he sees that he is sharing the ice with a figure skater who is warming up. After some banter, they find themselves in a speed race, which he loses. One thing that draws him to her is that she has no idea he plays professional hockey. He loves that she doesn't know him so he is trying to spend as much time with her as she will let him. However when she discovers who he really is.... is that the end of their summer small-town fling? Or will their chemistry win? Guess you are going to have to read it to find out!
~My Thoughts
The chemistry between Liv and Dillion is OFF THE CHARTS. I love that you see both of them struggle in their own way and how they come to terms with it. Watching LIv deal with her PTSD regarding being picked up and her career-ending accident, to dealing with workplace hazing and how it is brought to light what a problem hazing really is. But also watching Dillion figure his way through discovering you can be happy in a relationship and be good at your career and it doesn't have to be one or the other.
This book was a great read and so well written and if you haven't added this to your TBR yet you 100% should have.
Puck Happens combined my newfound love of hockey romances with my current favourite fictional town, and I absolutely loved it. I actually really enjoyed how separate from Calico Cove it was - Dillon was the Cove through-and-through, but the focus on his NHL career and Liv's background was a lovely switch up. It was still a lovely Cove novel, but different, and I liked that.
This book absolutely broke my heart. For approximately the first 80% of the book, I was sad. Dillon and Liv were such a beautiful pair - together, separately, take your pick - and my favourite MC's in the series so far. The forbidden love, the whole 'it's either me or your career,' gosh; I was honestly on the edge of my seat for the majority of the novel and was giggling and kicking my feet when it all came together.
I loved most of the characters, to be honest. The Bruisers as a whole were a great crew, and I was glad to see Novek wasn't a complete idiot. O'Rourke was so precious! I loved seeing him shine. I also really enjoyed seeing more of Wendy - her relationship with Dillon and the friendship she created with Liv was so sweet.
Honestly, I can't think of any faults with this book. I really, truly, loved everything about it.
Chills. the cover of this one is embarrassing and also saying i read it is a little embarrassing as well. But let me tell ya those tiktok recommendations really get you. i’m a survivor if anything. also writing this review a while after i have read it and i literally don’t remember like anything abt this book so that’s why the 2 stars. I am a sucker for an athlete romance and the hockey ones get pushed down my throat on tiktok. who am i not to listen to the devices. it happens to everyone.
I loved this book! It grabbed my attention from the beginning and was really hard to put down. Lots of emotion and laughs, steamy scenes, great character interaction. Some heartbreak and struggle to overcome obstacles on the way to an awesome ending. A very heartwarming romance with characters you will come to love. I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a fun read. Dillon and Liv were great. They didn't really start till after they started working together. They had some ups and downs but it didn't stop them. The chemistry was great
First order of buisness= ignore the cover Ok cool Im sorry this guy gave me so many icks. I love the whole story of the figure skater being a speed coach but Dillon himself was just… mm no. Some aspects of him were fine but like a lot of them were not it. I had to skip the open door scenes because the things both of them would say put a grimace on my face. Idk I just felt like the back and forth was too much. And then the ending felt so rushed. However I still feel like there were some really great things. I think Liv is a great character and I love her determination to the team. I also love the scenes describing practices and Novek. I didnt like him at first but I love him now. Overall I am a bit indifferent to the book but leaning more towards not recommending it. But you do you boo
I was never fully invested in this book. The writing was quite cringey and I had to stop many times just to get through this. I didn't feel any chemistry between them. DNF at 52%
This is my first every Hailey Shore read and it was so much fun! I mean anything with hockey grabs my attention, but this one sounded so good, a former figure skater finds herself working with a pro hockey team and though she just wants to help them all improve she finds that the team just isn’t on board with this plan. They make things extra difficult for her and in so many ways I wanted to just yell at them to grow up, but I think I appreciate that Olivia is working extra hard to show that she is more than capable to work with the team. You see she has worked hard to overcome a fall and all it took was a certain hockey player, Dillon. Dillon is the captain of the team that Olivia is now working for. As these two are forced to work together you see that they both feel a pull but try hard to keep that co-worker line drawn in the sand. But as they both learn more about the other, Dillon especially finds out there is more to Olivia than he could have ever guessed. The problem is things get taken too far with the team and when Olivia had expected Dillion to stand beside her, she learns that sometimes fear takes over.
I adored Olivia. She was working hard at always improving and honestly her feisty banter was the best. She had me cracking up with her one liners as much as her quick wit! Dillion felt he could only ever have one love in his life and that would always be hockey. There was never supposed to be anything beyond that. Of course, he loved his sister, but she was always there, so he was sure no one was going to become important to him until his career was over. That was until he spent time with Olivia. As he learns more and more about what happened to Olivia in her past and his feelings towards her, he learns that his heart might just be big enough to love both. For me though, it was the sound advice Olivia gets from her dad that sunk in more than anything. The man is there to hold her hand through everything from her start to figure skating to the moment where she is. It is the quick wit that these two have with each other that showcased the amazing connection that they have.
It is a known fact that figure skaters and hockey players do not mix. Except tell that to the new bane of my existence, Olivia Tyler-Branch, former figure skater turned rookie NHL skating coach. She knows her stuff, but the guys on the team are icing her out. Big time. One word from me, the team captain, could make her life easier. Only I have a small problem… I fell hard for Liv this past summer in Calico Cove. But after one ridiculously hot kiss, she ghosted me. I didn’t know her full name and she didn’t know mine, so I never thought I’d see my gorgeous mystery woman again. When she stepped out onto the ice at the Bruiser’s first preseason practice it hit me like a slap shot. This isn’t a second chance at a vacation fling.Giving into temptation could put both of us in the penalty box. I need to be focused on the game not on Olivia’s soft honey blonde hair, her feisty competitive streak or the heartbreak behind her eyes.
😊What i liked -
✔️ Sports/Workplace/Secret/Forced Proximity/He Falls First. ✔️ There are very few Insta Attraction books that I like, though this is more of a gradual increase in attraction but that being said I loved every minute of it. ✔️ I liked how Dillon first came on as a cocky hockey player but was a mushy guy underneath. ✔️I was Team Liv, such a strong character and I loved how she held her own among those cocky alphaie hockey players. ✔️ This one is a good combo of emotions, banter, heartbreaks, heartaches, friendships and swoon.
😊 What could have been better -
✔️I didn’t want it to end.

Thank you, Hailey Shore & Grey’s Promotions, for a copy.
Loved it! This book is a ton of fun combined with a sweet forbidden workplace romance between, a hockey stud nicknamed The Heart, and an ex-figure skater trying to put her life back together. Liv and Dillon meet in a small-town hockey rink, sharing the ice for a few hours each day before the crowds come in. There's definitely some attraction on both sides but Liv is leaving and starting a new job and Dillon hasn't been honest with who he is, then the town sheriff outs him, and Liv realizes that she is going to be his new skating coach when the pre-season starts up for his hockey team, the Bruisers. Red flags everywhere. There is no way anything can happen between them. Liv can't lose this job and Dillon is determined to focus on his career. Does not work out. Dillon and Liv can't stay away from each other and every time they're together they say it's the last time. Until it all falls apart and Liv takes a job with a new team. It doesn't take either one of them long to figure out that this is way more than a fling. So much to love about this book! Liv is really competitive and it's cute and funny that Dillon uses that to his advantage. Really liked the two of them together, they balance each other, push each other, and both find that missing thing in their lives when they're together. One of those really supportive couples that just intuitively know what the other needs to succeed and goes all in. Really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to see what Hailey Shore does next!
Dillon Le Coeur is the captain of the NHL team New England Bruisers. During his time off he spends it in Calico Cove helping his sister with her bar. One morning in the towns hockey rink, he runs into this mysterious, fast figure skater, who immediately captures his attention and he loves the fact that she has no idea who he is. They spend time together to get to know each other, that is until she finds out who he is and she disappears. Well until he finds out who his new coach is, Liv, or Olivia Tyler-Branch.
Olivia, Liv, used to be a figure skater, until her partner dropped her and changed her life/path forever. She cannot believe that the guy she is drawn to is part of the team that she has been contracted to help teach speed techniques to. As hard as she tries she can't stay away from Dillon. He is a good guy but dedicated to his team and a relationship could ruin her career. But will he realize too late how important she is to him?
This was a good book, full of emotions, family, and steamy chemistry. I would compare this book to cotton candy at a small town carnival. You can't help but love it. Liv is dealing with a lot and is missing figure skating. I did not like the jokes that the team played on her, but she dealt with them the best way possible and tried to ignore them. I thought these two characters were fun together and would recommend this book.
Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review
A contemporary sports romance with some angst as former pairs figure skater Olivia indulges in a flirtation with ice hockey star Dillon before starting her new job. To begin with Dillon, the captain of the New England Bruisers thinks she’s just another puck bunny but soon realises that she genuinely doesn’t have a clue who he is. When she does find out, she makes like Cinderella and does a vanishing act only to reappear at his team’s training facility as their new skating coach.
Puck Happens was a wonderful story full of emotion as Liv struggled to get over the accident that had destroyed her career and almost her life. She put up with a lot from a team who didn’t think she could teach them anything, but kept going, determined to prove herself and fighting her growing feelings for Dillon. For most of the book I really wasn’t a fan of Dillon. He started out strong but once he realised Liv had a job with the team, despite the obvious chemistry between them, he blew hot and cold. He said he had to put the team first and she was a distraction but then he wouldn’t leave her alone but only if there was no one else around, and if there was. he ignored her. He didn’t even defend her when she was being tormented by certain members of the team. His saving grace was, once he realised the full extent of the bullying, he finally made a stand.
Puck Happens is a hockey, workplace romance between a hockey player and a figure skater, now skating coach. Dillon and Liv meet in Calico Cove on the ice and later when he is helping his sister at The Gull bartending. She mistakes him for a beer league hockey player. And for Dillon it’s nice to be seen for the person who he really is and not is the captain of the NHL Bruisers hockey team. The chemistry between Dillon and Liv is off the charts, sparks fly, even when they meet and it ends up in a competition. And later that night, when they meet again. I could just feel those sparks fly. But there is also some tragedy in this book, and it is something that happens in real life too, those career ending injuries. And it is always devastating. Their romance is also forbidden as Liv is part of the coach team, and Dillon is really struggling with all that comes by. He really wants her, but his head screams to choose his career, being the captain his team deserves without distractions. I could not put this book down. From the beginning I had this feeling that it would be so good, and I was right. Maybe I just wanted a little bit more of Calico Cove, but that’s just me. And if my suspicions are right, I hope the next book in the series will be more in Calico Cove.
TBH I found this book on TikTok, and based off the persons description of the book I was a little skeptical. Hockey romances are not really my thing obviously until now. Going into the book I was really nervous about how it would play out because of the workplace. You know she being the coach and stuff like I was a little nervous but let me tell you this book was TOO GOODD. I loved the banter that had to be my favorite part. The competitiveness been going back-and-forth each other just all-around a 10 out of 10. I’m personally not the biggest fan of the spicy scenes only because it makes me feel a little uncomfy, but for those of you do you like them This is a book for you. It’s most definitely way more than Mariana Zapata‘s, like maybe two in the last chapter of the book. But anyway you know that part the book where are you know something bad about to happen well, of course that happened but it wasn’t horrible like I’ve read worse and it honestly was kind of cute. I honestly think this is a cute little book it made me happy, and those few days I was reading it I wish I could read it again for the first time. Anyways, go read the book!!
