Moving to a new town, I never expected it to flip my life on its axis the way it did. Grove Hill was supposed to be small, peaceful. Nothing bad ever happens in a small town, right?
Wrong.
Bad things happen every day and they are the ones to make sure justice is served.
They are the Bastards of Grove Hill. They decimate everything that goes bump in the night.
I never wanted to catch the attention of them, but on my first day in town, I caught the attention of not just one but two of the Bastards.
First, Oliver Doyle, known as the town psychopath for a reason.
Then, Nigel O'Reilly, their leader, the man who just can't take no for an answer.

This book took me on a rollercoaster! I’m pretty sure I went through all the emotions reading it.

My girl, Beth goes through it in this book and can’t catch a break. She catches the attention of Nigel and Oliver, we love possessive men over here. The spice was spicing in the book! I’m rooting for Ollie even though the ending threw me for a loop and now I’m dying for book two!

This was an absolute rollercoaster of a read, as soon as my mind settled on things going one way something would happen and things would go a completely different way.

Beth’s story is one that I find stressful and she is probably someone I would have avoided at all costs as a teenager, not because she is an unlikable character but because her life and everything that surrounds her is chaotic in a way that may have been avoidable if she would have really thought about tings before doing them. Of course she goes through some pretty heartbreaking things that were out of her control but some of her heartbreak could have been avoided if she would have allowed some bridges to burn when they had the chance. Nigel and Oliver have officially made their way to my “they better get it together” list, although I personally would be happy to never hear from Nigel ever again, and in my heart of hearts sweet Martin can do no wrong.

Despite me being stressed over the characters in this book, I became heavily invested in the story and need to know how this is all gong to play out in the end. I have some theories but I have learned this this one might not be as easy for me to predict that other books that I have read in the past, especially since the last page of the book ended on a cliffhanger that had me waking my husband up in the middle of the night to give him the whole run down.

LISTEN. This book didn’t just grip me—it body slammed me into the pavement, spat in my face, and said, “You’re gonna thank me later.” And guess what? I did. With tears in my eyes and zero regrets.

Beth shows up to Grove Hill thinking she’s about to live that chill, small-town life? Girl, be serious. Within 24 hours she’s caught in a crossfire between not one but TWO of the certified disasters known as the Bastards of Grove Hill. We’ve got Oliver—unhinged, hot, and clearly never heard of therapy—and Nigel, the cold, calculating ringleader with “I don’t do feelings” energy. Spoiler: he absolutely does feelings. BADLY. And then there’s Martin, just lurking in the corner with beef and backstory like it’s a sport.

This book is chaos in hardcover. It’s morally grey men galore, back-alley violence, sexual tension thick enough to choke on, and Beth—poor, unprepared Beth—trying to survive it all with her sanity intact. Spoiler #2: she barely does. Honestly? Same.

The plot? Fast. The spice? Criminal. The drama? Soap opera level, but with more knives. Beth is in so far over her head, she’s basically scuba diving in red flags—and I was LIVING for it.

If you’ve read Bastards of Grove Hill, welcome to the prequel you didn’t know you were desperate for. Zepphora serves messy emotions, questionable morals, and a plot that never gives you a second to breathe. I got my hands on an ARC and now I’m feral waiting for the next one.

If you like your books dark, your men morally bankrupt, and your heroines with a backbone of steel and a side of “try me,” this one’s your new obsession. Don’t even hesitate. Read it. Regret nothing.

Reckless, Careless, and Reckless are the first three books about all the kids that grew up there and why they did what they did.

The Catalyst is the beginning of Nigel and Bethany's story with a huge twist. The psychopath..
You have one man who's totally in love with the girl, and then there's, Doyle. The psychopath that everyone is scared to be around except Bethany. That intrigues him, which fascinates him all the while knowing that him and Nigel are best friends.

Whose gonna get the girl??
Then, the plot thickens.
Aimee is back....

The spice in this book was off the charts. All around a 5-star.
I can't wait to read more. I am starved and will devour every last page to read her book.

Holy fucking shit on a stick, I loved this book every juicy little bit off it, it was filled with drama, love, spice, laughter, possiveness, and much more. This author is new to me and this is the first book I've read by them and it won't be the last, it took me on a rollercoaster of a ride and the spice level is off the charts 🥵. I couldn't put it down from the minute I started reading it..

"This girl is so infuriating. I can’t decide if I want to fuck her or strangle her more. Probably fuck her. Okay, definitely fuck her. I want this woman in a way that is unnatural and completely consumes me."

Beth is the new girl in town catching the eyes of the most feared in town, Ollie and Nigel. Beth, is strong, loud, but yet cares so much for people! She's still in school, but she's 18. And is going through alot with her abusive and meddling mother.

"The Bastards". They have a reputation, and not many want to get mixed up with them. But they're not as evil as they are made out to be. They're vigilantes who take out the bad guys and keep the town safe. But regardless of what their intentions are, we get thrown in a whirlwind of plots, twists and turns.

Once Nigel set his eyes on her, she consumed his every thought and he knew she was his everything and would stop at nothing to get her and claim her as his, and that he does. They both fall hard and fast, but there's a spanner thrown in the mix, will he lose his girl? Will he need to share her with another? Read and find out.

“I’m not going to give you some ridiculous, romantic cliche about destiny or anything like that. Just say you’ll marry me, you little shit.”

Can we all just take a minute to appreciate Ollie 🥵 that man is damn fine and I feel every bit sorry for him, he's got me all twisted up and I find myself saying yes daddy! I'm intrigued to see what happens with them two. Im so hopping there is another book and we get to find out. I highly recommend reading this story.

The Catalyst by Zepphora is the first prequel to The Bastards of Grove Hill series and also part of the When You Leave Duet. I hadn’t read The Bastards of Grove Hill before diving into this, but I’ll definitely be catching up now. You can absolutely enjoy The Catalyst as a standalone, but I’m pretty sure you’ll end up just as addicted to the Bastards as I am.

The Catalyst was an emotional roller coaster—I laughed, I cried, I cursed. And the ending? It shattered my heart. This is one of those stories that lingers long after you’ve turned the last page (in the best way). It’s easily one of my favorite reads of 2025.

The story centers around Bethany, the FMC, who moves to Grove Hill with her extremely religious mother. There, she gets involved with Nigel, one of the Bastards of Grove Hill, who quickly becomes obsessed with her. But he’s not the only one watching: the town’s psychopath, Oliver—also one of the Bastards and possibly the most terrifying man imaginable—is interested in her too. And then there’s Martin, the rich boy who wants Beth for himself.

What follows is a spicy, dangerous, and intense why-choose romance full of suspense and emotional depth.

While reading, I found myself really hating Nigel—he was definitely the reason I swore the most!

Let’s be honest: don’t we all secretly want the psychopath? 🥵

I really hope the next book in the duet picks up where The Catalyst left off. I’m not ready for this story to be over—I need more! I’m counting on the author to fix my broken heart.

All in all, The Catalyst is a fast-paced, addicting 5+ star read with a solid 5 out of 5 on the spice scale.

Tropes you’ll find:

Multiple POV, first person

Why choose?

Non-con/dub-con

Confident, strong FMC

Obsessive, stalking, and possessive MMC

Psychotic, sadistic MMC with a taste for blood

Caring, wealthy MMC

Holy smokes, this book was all kinds of freaking good!

I'm not going to lie, usually a book this thick will take me some time to finish reading or getting right into the groove with the book, but not with this one. As soon as I started reading ... I was a goner and couldn't put it down!

Beth was one heck of a girl in this duet and her guys are sure the Bastards of Grove Hill. You don't want to mess with them or let them find out that you are doing things you shouldn't or they will come for you. People think they are bad, but in reality they look out for their town. When Beth first moved into town, she immediately got attached to Nigel, or more like Nigel got attached to her. The only problem with Nigel is that he's way too possessive and controlling and those two things don't bode well with Beth. She was still defiant, a smarta$$ and would still go out of her way to make him mad by doing the opposite of what he asked her to do.

There is so much going on in this book that I don't want to give it all away, but this is the start of where the Bastards of Grove Hill came from, who they are and what they are all about. I guarantee you that if you start reading this book, you will fall in love with some of the characters (especially Ollie).

Don't miss out on reading this book to get all the gist of what is going to happen in the other books, if you haven't read them first.

Zepphora has definitely given me a reason to continue reading this series because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!

Revelations .... you will be SHOOK.

Wow, just wow. I finished reading "Catalyst," and I'm still reeling from it. It’s truly one of those books that throws you into a whirlwind of emotions. The way the story unfolds is absolutely gripping—it’s the kind of backstory that you didn't know you needed but ends up being everything. It truly answers many unanswered questions from the Bastards of Grove Hill series and gives more insight to things you never saw coming.
Nigel, Bethany, Oliver, and the Gray family each bring so much depth to the narrative. The relationships and the conflicts between them are intense, and I found myself completely invested in their journeys. There are twists I never saw coming, and just when you think you have a handle on things, another revelation hits you right in the gut. It's a rollercoaster ride, for sure, and you'll need to buckle up!
What I loved most is how "Catalyst" manages to be the perfect prequel. It answers so many questions about the characters and their motivations, but it still leaves you hungry for more. Just when you think you’ve reached the end, you're left with that intriguing sense of wanting to dive deeper into their world.
However, I recommend checking your triggers before diving in since there are some heavy themes that might resonate closely if you’ve experienced similar issues. Your mental health is so important, and this book tackles some tough topics.

Overall, "Catalyst" is a fantastic read—just be ready for an emotional journey

OH. MY. GOD. This book had me in an absolute chokehold from start to finish. I swear, Zepphora reached straight into my chest, ripped out my heart, stomped on it, then handed it back like “good luck, babe.” And I loved every second of it.
Beth moves to Grove Hill thinking it’s gonna be chill—yeah, no. Day one, she catches the eye of not one but TWO of the Bastards of Grove Hill: Oliver, the town’s certified psychopath (literally obsessed), and Nigel, the terrifying leader who doesn’t take no for an answer. Oh, and let’s throw Martin Gray in there too—Nigel’s enemy, Beth’s enemy… until he’s not 👀.
This story is dark, gritty, full of spice, and absolutely unhinged in the best way. The Bastards might be vigilantes, but danger follows them like a shadow—and Beth? She’s right in the middle of it, whether she likes it or not. It’s messy, it’s chaotic, it’s addictive. I was screaming at the book like it could hear me.
Also—if you’ve read Bastards of Grove Hill, this is the prequel you didn’t even know you needed. Zepphora gives you the tea on how it all started, and trust me, it’s juicy. The action? Nonstop. The tension? Chef’s kiss. The spice? UMMM YES.
I’m so lucky I got my hands on an ARC—counting down the days until the next one drops. If you love morally grey men, chaos, and a heroine who just keeps surviving no matter what’s thrown at her, RUN to read this.

ARC Review <3

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (definitely a 6 star read)
🌶️🌶️🌶️

Tropes: MFM, early 2000s era, carnival fun, town psycho (my Oli bby 🥹), Boxer, cousin MMCs

GOD, THIS WAS AMAZING! I’ve been crazy busy these past couple weeks because there’s been a lot going on, BUT I FINALLY GOT TO FINISH THIS BOOK. And it was SUCH a good read, I would honestly give it 6 stars if I could.

Let’s start with the love of my life, Oliver. We LOVE a good psychopath and Oliver is the PERFECT psychopath. Just *chefs kiss* he is one of the most perfect men ever. Martin is just the sweetest. 🥹 Love him to death. And finally, Nigel. At first I hated him, but he grew on me. You know I can’t resist a man who calls his girl butterfly.

Even though it was long, I honestly was not bored for a single part of this book. The writing was IMMACULATE, I loved all of the main characters and was constantly feeling their emotions second hand, and I was rooting for Bethany even when she was acting crazy (she’s definitely one of the most badass FMCs ever, but I love that about her).

Zepphora, you did an AMAZING job, love! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be on your street team! Now excuse me while I run to Amazon to buy 5 copies of this book. 😅🖤

Whew, what a read this was. Please read the trigger warnings beforehand!

This book had me feeling so many emotions. It was definitely something I could not put down.

We have Beth, moving to a new town. The girl just wants to get through her last year in the new school and rejoin her friends. What could go wrong? EVERYTHING. Enters Nigel, he's obsessed with Beth and won't let her go. Then we have Oliver, who is equally obsessed. At this point who isn't obsessed with her? Beth finds out getting through the year is harder than she anticipated. A toxic relationship, messy feelings for multiple men, and a deal with the devil is to be made.

Beth tries her best trying to protect those she loves, no matter the cost. She's a baddie and she faces the problems head on.

This book will captivate you right from the start. It will have you stressed out yet you will read like your life depends on it. Zepphora did a phenomenal job with this book. You won't regret giving this book a chance. However please read the trigger warnings.

Also the playlist kicks ass. I usually don't care for the playlists for books but she knocked it out the park. It's one of the few I bothered listening to!

Wow.

This book genuinely ripped my heart out, put it back and then proceeded to rip it out again. All throughout, i felt so much for the fmc, Beth, and with everything that happened to her, my heart sunk.

The Catalyst follows Bethany as she moves into Grove Hill - her new home. Immediately, she catches the eye of Nigel O’Reilly and is forced into a relationship with him. Nigel’s a disgusting man and i’m very glad to say he isn’t the love interest! No, that’s the town psychopath, Oliver, and Nigel’s biggest enemy, Martin.

The three of them fight for who they love but is that enough when Beth can’t ever seem to escape Nigel’s grasp and the man of the rich family running the town sinks his slimy claws in their life?

Beth: 3 stars
Oliver: 4 stars (one star deducted for the ending because omgggg??)
Martin: 5 stars (my baby has done no wrong)

Overall this book was fantastic and i’ll definitely be staying tuned for the sequel 😋

This arc was given to me by the author in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you so much for the opportunity <3

The book is packed with action and spice, and the storyline will keep you engaged from the beginning. The insta-love story between Bethany and Nigel is intense. It's all consuming from very early on, and you can tell Nigel would burn the world down if Bethany asked him to.

So much happened in this book. But it makes all the other books make sense now. Especially why Nigel and Beth have that weird relationship in the first couple of books and why she almost killed herself. I'm hoping in the other books it will come to life that Francine and Rian are related because it hasn't yet. Crazy how Carmen knew that Beth will have a girl and what she will look like. But i felt so bad for Beth. My heart broke so much for her. Especially when Ollie and Beth had to leave Rian. Hopefully they get back together in the other books and get Rian back. I wish I read this book first lol. I might have to go read the other books to put everything together more. But knowing Martin willing had the baby I don't see him doing what he did to Francine but maybe he did. I feel like Nolan would do it. But totally loved this book.

The Catalyst dives back a generation for Nigel and Bethany's story and it was so much more gripping than I anticipated.

After the previous glimpses of Nigel and Bethany I was expecting a whirlwind as their story unfolded and these two didn't disappoint! One of my favorite things about this series is that the men are possessive/obsessive characters who have no limits of what they'll do for their loved ones and Nigel definitely fits this description. Nigel was kinky, posessive and all sorts of deliciously dominant and Bethany was quite the firecracker herself. These two were fire together.

The Catalyst was fast paced and full of spice with amazing characters that kept me glued to my Kindle until the last page. Now I'm left eagerly waiting to see what's in store next!

This book was most def different from anything I’ve read storyline wise. There were a lot of things happening constantly in this book and a lot of back and forth with partners. I did not care for the ending or how the story ended ho playing out overall so hooping it gets better in the next one cause the ending crushed me. Story follows Beth the new girl in town who comes across the boys known as the bastards the bad boys of the town. She catches the eye of two of them Nigel and Ollie. I didn’t care for Nigel but I loved Ollie. The trauma and brokenness of these characters and how they just worked with each other kept me so into the story. Beth was def a strong fmc and Ollie was def the psychopath that you just couldn’t not love. The spice was 5🌶️

This is the 4th book in the B@stards series but the 1st in the When You Leave trilogy within the B@stards series.

I was a little skeptical because I got so attached to the characters in Reckless, Careless, and Restless and I didn't want to leave them. I didn't think I would want to read about their parents but I was so wrong. So many questions answered from the first 3 books. This plot just keeps getting thicker and thicker. And don't get me started on Nigel and Beth. Whew....the spice is off the charts and then Zepphora added in Ollie and *mind blown*.

Fantastic series! Definitely recommend.

So I only read the first book in the bastards of grove hill series before diving into to this one and I would 100% recommend reading the whole series first, as this is a kind of prequel to the series, and it would make the whole reading experience more enjoyable and fuller bodied.

Having said that this book can be read first and enjoyed as its own story, and what a story it is!! It’s full of drama, spice, love, possessiveness and so so much more. It’s gritty, consuming and will have you begging for book 2 to find out how the rest of the story unfolds.

Zepphora knows how to weave a damn good story that has you feeling for her characters and invested in their lives, loves and struggles.

This is an incredible read. It's sizzling Hot 🔥 🔥 and Spicy 🌶️🌶️ Full of drama and trauma.
Beth is such a strong spirited person. And no matter what falls in her lap she deals with it the best she can.
This is my first book by Zeppora and I want more. This book ended in a cliffhanger and I can barely stay calm until we get to find out what happens next.
And Oliver I am so in love with him. He's the town psychopath. Beth and Ollie are the perfect match. And he protects what is his.
So get ready buttercup because this story is going to take you on a wonderfully wild ride.
You should probably check the TW before reading.
Otherwise enjoy this wonderful book.

The Catalyst ( Bastards Of Grove Hill Book 4 ) OMG . There are no words just no perfect words that can even start to express the wild ride I was just taken on. All the intrigue and suspense, the non stop action, the danger , the secrets , the revelations, the twists and turns . All the emotions I was reeling with from start to finish. Not to forget , the steam , the humor and man the oh so steamy moments. Beth was such an awesome heroine , so strong and confident and resilient and Oliver well I just might be equally obsessed and in love with him .

This book was addictive, if I didn’t have to function as a normal human being I probably would have finished sooner as I couldn’t put it down!
Following Bethany, moving to a new town and catching the eye of several guys the story is packed with emotions, twists and danger an a Bethany finds herself right in the middle of it all.
I loved the characters and the plot had me hooked.
Amazing read and totally recommend to all the dark romance lovers out there.

OH MY LAND this story was fricken AMAZING. The Characters grab you and drag you into the story and make you feel like you are a part of the story right along with them. The way Zee writes she makes you feel every heartbreak, every joy, every laugh, every tear, every single thing the characters feel you feel so deep in our soul it leaves you reeling and thinking about the story and dying to get back to it as soon as possible and once you reach the end you are begging for the next
Definitely recommend this story and this whole series

We’re on Book 4, people! If you’ve made it this far, I’m going to assume you’ve read Books 1-3. This one dives into the backstory of Bethany and Nigel, Francine’s mom and Finn’s dad, for clarification. And let me tell you, Bethany is not to be messed with. This story is hot, and I loved how it gives so much insight into the backstory of the parents of the current Bastards. Definitely recommend this series.

Holy hell, that cliffhanger! I need more. From the moment I picked up this book I could not put it down. Beth goes through so much and is still so strong. I can honestly say that I expected a different outcome, but I am in love with the way this book and the story turned out. The ups and the downs and the emotional roller coaster that this book took me on is insane. I look forward to more of Beth’s story.
