If you enjoy reading about small-town life on the Prairie, grab a copy today! Please note--This is an updated version of a previously published book, A Nurse for Niall. New scenes and conversations have been added in addition to revised wording to create this version.
The story is part of the Uncertain Sweethearts series, which is like an ongoing saga. They take place in the town of Fox Creek. These are clean Western Historical tales and do interconnect.
Alice Cordell is a caregiver—and trained nurse. After the death of her father, she attended nursing school, where she did well, but she didn’t receive a placement. Nurse Harwell was concerned about Alice’s limp from an accident when she was a child. Alice will show her an advertisement she found in the paper—could this be the answer.
“Wanted: Woman to fill role of caretaker and nurse for busy doctor. No one under the age of twenty-five need apply.”
“This may be the answer. You spent years caring for your father, and you are more than qualified as a caregiver. You could help a doctor and care for the man’s home if you answer this.” –Nurse Harwell
Doctor Niall Mackenzie has left Fox Creek after a false accusation from one of the local young women is made. His father, Dr. Angus Mackenzie felt he needed to go and practice elsewhere. But his father has written to him asking him to come see him, something he needs to tell him face to face. What a shock to arrive the day after his father dies. Niall refuses to be a doctor to this town who has turned on him. Then to have a young woman show up at the home and practice and claim she was hired by his father to be a caretaker and nurse.
The story is a mystery, and suspense, with secrets, lies, and danger. Against his better judgment, Niall will agree to allow Alice to stay and cook and care for the home for him. He does not need a nurse, since he has no plans to tend to patients. When Alice goes into Fox Creek to pick up supplies, she experiences strange behavior from the people. The men are rude, and the women are gossiping—loudly. When the Reverend and his gossiping wife stop by the Mackenzie residence, he learns that his father had a Will, which the Reverend helped with, and it had two stipulations—he had to practice medicine here for two years and he needs to take a wife. Before Alice knows it, she is to become the wife.
The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. I liked Alice and slowly learned to like Niall. He has every right to be resentful of the people who had no problem believing a lie, even after the birth of the child indicated as to the likely father. The marriage between Alice and Niall is of convenience but turns to love. The town is faced with more than one death that eventually will be solved. While it shocks and saddens many—the truth is eventually revealed and healing begins.

Alice Heals the Doctor is Book one of the Uncertain Sweethearts series - set in Fox Creek, Kansas. A page turning story with relatable characters (nurse Alice, doctor Niall, Reverend Potter, the towns people), twist and turn plot twists and believable resolution.
Due to a limp, Alice Cordell is a caregiver and trained nurse, after the death of her father, didn’t receive a placement. Nurse Harwell shows her an advertisement she found in the paper— Wanted: Woman to fill role of caretaker and nurse for busy doctor. No one under the age of twenty-five need apply. Will a marriage of convenience be the chance the disabled nurse Alice and grumpy doctor Niall need?
While Alice Heals the Doctor can be read as a standalone, this avid reader is looking forward to the rest of the series. Book 2 Hazel Finds a Hero.
This was a very sweet, nice story about a Nurse, Alice Cordell, who has a limp and has been shunned for it, which leaves her with low self-esteem. Niall MacKenzie is a doctor whose father has asked him to come back home to Fox Creek, Wisconsin. Once he arrives back home, he’s forced into becoming their doctor and Alice is there to be his Nurse.
I enjoyed this story. Both Alice and Niall both have pasts that haunt them and make them bitter towards others. But together they can help each other and maybe make a life together if things in Niall’s past can be put to rest. You will enjoy it.
I really love Marisa Mastersons books. She is a very talented author. You really feel part of the community and everything the people in the book are going through. Alice Heals The Doctor is a perfect example of don’t believe first impressions. A person could be having a bad day or could be going thru something awful that makes them that way. Nial came off very rude and if Alice had let that upset her forcing her to change her mind about staying her happy ever after would have never happened. This book had a really good mystery that was solved at the end of the book. I recommend it.
I believe some things are changed, or at least I don't remember all the details, but I read this book Aug of 2021 when it was titled A Nurse for Niall. I kept thinking, this is so familiar, as I was reading it, and sure enough it's the same basic story.
Turns out, if I had read the description I would have learned this in advance. There are some changes and as I'm 60% finished, I will continue reading it, but here's my original review:
Definitely some twists and turns in this story! From the beginning, things don't happen as expected for Alice, but God is in control even still!
Gossips don’t care about the truth, they only want to feel important to know something no one else does. This is the beginning of a new series and Marisa Masterson starts it off with a bang. A newly trained nurse with a limp, a doctor with a broken heart and spirit, a minister’s wife that excels in gossip, a ruined young lady with a baby and another one on the way, and lastly a former teacher with an open mind and a good heart, these all come together in this book to give us an excellent story. Oh, add in a budding romance, a mystery, and a measles outbreak to complete the tale. I really enjoyed this book.
I wrote calm as this book did not have a lot of suspense or twists and turns . the way mrs. Doctor... Such z cut nickname healed both her husband and the town in z calm x straight forward mznner.. I was, glad to see how Null and Slice managed merge together XO quickly and seemlessly.I quite enjoyed this easy read and happily recommend it to eveyone! sincerely, Janet Lynn.
Alice was a care giver, she nursed and cared for her father and then went to nursing school. Being a nurse was very important to Alice, but being a wife and mother was important to her also but she thought she would never find Love, but is it possible to have both?
This was an interesting story. Alice was crippled from an injury as a young child. She struggled with most daily chores. She did managed to complete a nursing course and was going to a job helping an older doctor. To her surprise, he sided before she could get there. Her adventure was just getting started, enjoy.
This was a very nice and sweet read. It is written by Marisa Masterson and written very well. I really enjoyed reading this book as it was very enjoyable.
