Everything we do in life always has a price!
Well-spoken, intelligent and beautiful, Helen Pawson has lived a privileged life. Her parents have made sure she wants for nothing. She’s attended the best private schools and has learned to appreciate the finer things in life. In her mind, she has everything she needs at her fingertips.
Her father’s unexpected illness soon turns Helen’s world topsy-turvy. To make matters worse, she experiences a betrayal that will last a lifetime. Determined to overcome the mental illness she fights, she dives head-first into a decision that will change her life forever.
The trials and tribulations of marriage leave her wanting more from the life she leads. Displeased and tired of her husband’s dark secrets, Helen sets out on a journey of self-discovery, one that leads her straight into the arms of dashing lawyer, Simon.
Startled by the fact she enjoys carnal pleasures in more ways than one, Helen agrees to Simon’s subtle demands. In doing so, he opens her eyes to the dark and gritty world of being a call girl. A world she soon begins to crave.
The secrets of Helen’s past follow her at every turn. If she’s to succeed in making something of herself, she’ll need to confront each of her ghosts. Will she be able to set all wrongs to right before it’s too late? Or will her new hunger for more end up swallowing her in the process?

Ever since I was a small child I have wanted to write a book. I loved reading from the day I started school. As soon as I was seven years old I joined my local library and went regularly to select new books, but sometimes I would sit and read in the library.

Once I reached senior school, whilst I did still read a lot of books, I became more interested in mathematics, but I also achieved excellent grades in English Language. I enjoyed geography and writing poetry, although my poetry was more often than not, humourous and for my own amusement.

After leaving school, I gained qualifications in accountancy and spent most of my working life in accounts offices and being a company accountant.

I always intended to write but things got in the way; getting married, having kids. The kids became teenagers and an even bigger demand on my time. The career, the grandchildren.

Then the event that finally kicked my butt.....the loss of the youngest of my three older brothers. he died way too young and the plans for his future...gone in a whisper. We were very close and I was devastated by his death. Months later, when I was over the worst of my grief, I began to realise that if there are things we want to do in our lives we must not delay; do them now while we can. I started writing my first book, my life story which is called "Trying to Understand".

This is a work-in-progress and I have put it to one side for now. I started writing "Going Up and Going Down" last June and did 50% of the work by the end of August. Family matters got in the way during September and October and I didn't do any writing during that time. It was mid November before I started again and my book was finished (apart from 2 or 3 little chapters which were added later during the editing process) by the end of January.

I am now divorced and I consider myself very blessed to have my son and daughter, two gorgeous grandsons and three beautiful granddaughters.

I love travel and intend to see as much of the world as I can. I like reading, playing chess, doing cryptic crosswords and sudoku.

My favourite authors over the years are many, including Brett Battles, Dean Koontz, James Herbert, Simon Kernick, Linwood Barclay and Mo Hayder, J.K. Rowling and Agatha Christie. The Harry Potter books are my favourite books ever, pure escapism!

I enjoy all kinds of music, chick flicks, food and spending time with my family.

great read

Loved this novel. Not my usual type of read at all. Great writing and storytelling.

Helen has had to deal with a lot of heartache through her life. At school the kids bullied her and at Uni, she found her first real friend, Bobby but even that turned sour after a while.

She doesn’t have much luck with fellas either until Simon enters her life with a life-changing proposition.

David (insert sad face)… to say more would spoil other readers enjoyment. On to the next book in this fab trilogy.

Helen has had a good life, good family and she’s worked hard to get to a comfortable place in her job.
She fell in love with her Dads colleague, partner.
Then she sees life around her and things just fall away a bit at a time.
She decides to take her life in hand and meeting a lawyer opens up a whole other world for her.
I felt Helen was let down by others in her life and needed more belief in herself. Which as she takes on her new job as a call girl she finds what she really enjoys and goes for it.
Not without its own horrors and sadness though.
Very raunchy and explicit at times. Complete change for me but well written and I enjoyed it.

What a journey Helen Pawson has been on, and it’s one that had my emotions running with her. To start with a loving family and be suddenly thrust into a world where love hurts and in so many ways from betrayal, lies, and physical pain. But there is hope here for this brave woman. I kept rooting for her to get her life back in order as she pulls herself up by her bootstraps and takes a plunge into a most unique and promising new career. This book was well-written and the clarity was superb!
