We're all broken. Mentally, physically, relationally, or emotionally--it looks different for each person. But the pain, grief, and hopelessness we feel is the same.
Diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at age five, Rob Roozeboom watched helplessly as his illness destroyed his dreams. Feeling painfully different and forgotten, he questioned his very existence, rebelling against God. But God wasn't done with him yet. Weaving his inspiring story with biblical teaching, he offers help for anyone feeling unloved, unseen, or unworthy, including how
- process feelings of insecurity, inferiority, disappointment, and hopelessness - discover the blessings of brokenness - replace lies and negative cultural labels with truths from God's Word - wrestle with your faith when everything's out of control - experience strength in your weakness - receive the hope available in Jesus
In your dark hours, God still chooses you--still has purpose for you. And turning to Him is the first step to your brighter future.
I heard this author speak in New Hampshire last weekend at a music festival. He does not have SMA like I do, but a form of muscular dystrophy, and after I heard him speak, I knew I wanted to pick up his book. He was one of the first conference speakers I have seen on stage in a wheelchair which was pretty cool as well. I think that readers that have a disability would probably connect most with this book, simply because a lot of his real-life examples are exceptionally relatable for me. However, I think anyone could benefit from reading this book because he does talk about the vulnerabilities that we all share, just by being human. We all wonder about our shortcomings and how to deal with them. This is a funny, encouraging read. I would definitely recommend it.
What an inspirational read! Though I didn’t have as much free time to read as I would have liked (which made it take me longer to finish than planned), I found myself picking it up every chance I could and reading just a few more pages. I was very impressed by the strength of character that author Rob Roozeboom demonstrated. We are all broken people living in a broken world. But we are exactly as God intended us to be, the way He wanted us to look, act, etc. Had He not made Rob the way he is, we’d not have this book to inspire us, nor would we have his ministry (RISE Ministries) impacting so many. We’d also not see RiseFest, which is attended by 20,000 people each year. Those are all amazing ministries and opportunities to help a hurting and broken world that might not have come about if not for God’s plan. Roozeboom’s story is truly a testimony to the beauty of God at work and how He uses all things for His glory. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to read this book. I love that each chapter ends with a prayer and then is followed by Scriptures. Each Scripture is a truth that can combat a lie from the enemy. The book is well written and easy to understand. It is not heavy, academic reading, but still provides solid, Biblical truths and opportunities for growth. If you are looking for your next read, look no further than this book. You will not walk away unaffected or unchanged. I know I have been changed by reading this and I want to encourage others to experience the same.
Rob does an amazing job at illustrating how God has used his struggles to bring so many others to Jesus Christ and help Rob find peace. Using the things that Rob thought would be his demise turned into his reason for living and in turn has helped me understand and find peace with my alcoholism.
I met Rob and he signed my book as well, an amazing man with an even more amazing story. God bless you Rob!
“Of course God will give you more than you can handle, because He knows the best thing for us is to depend on Him.”
Rob delivers more truths for the broken people of this world, people like me & you, than I’ve read in a long time. Striving to ‘work through’ his own brokenness with an eye on how the Holy Spirit is inspiring him to new heights, Rob delivers over & over in this book about “how to do life” when your life looks a little different than others.
Wow what an amazingly incredible piece of art in written form. Broken, Still Chosen is a must read. The transparency is eye opening, real and raw. Thank you for writing and sharing your story with the world. It’s needed. Highly recommended
