Angela Lathery volunteers for a charity nightline. One night, she takes a call from someone who desperately needs her help, as they are being hunted by a vengeance hungry maniac through their own home.

This debut novel is a little rough in places. There are adjectives. Lots of adjectives. Lots of adjectives adjectively getting in the way of what is, at its core, a pretty intense thriller with a hell of a hook. Simon Gray should be proud of his work, it takes nerves of steel and a great deal of discipline to write a book. Especially one with a central conceit as bold as this one. I really enjoyed it. I just think with some trimming of the unnecessary fat, this could have been even better.

I don’t know what I expected the out of the ordinary call that Angela, the crisis hotline volunteer, would be. But it was beyond my wildest imaginings.

Angela becomes wrapped up in a brilliantly dark and twisted game of cat-and-mouse that she both simultaneously manages to be prepared for yet doesn’t see coming.

Well worth a read!
