“That night we were reckless.” His voice cracks. “But god, I’d be reckless with you over and over again if it means ending up here.”
I'm still trying to figure out why I slept on this series so long. If it's one thing I have figured out, it is that Elsie has a way of making me want to stay in this small town and my cowboy era and never leave.
Reckless is the third book in the Chestnut Springs series. This is a small town, reverse grumpy-sunshine, surprise pregnancy, cowboy romance that had wity banter, tension, and the best heartfelt moments. I loved this so much and was shocked that I didn't mind the surprise pregnancy, but Elsie wrote it so well.
This story follows Winter and Theo. They had a brief meet cute at the gas station only to end up at the same dinner at the Eaton Ranch. They share some moments, and it's evident that Theo is interested, but Winter is in the middle of a divorce and trying to find herself. The last thing she is looking for is any type of relationship. One thing leads to another, and they end up having a night together, but that night changes everything.
Winter Hamilton is a strong independent er doctor that is most known as having a cold exterior and been given the name of "ice queen." However, she is so much more than that. Her character pulled at my heart strings as she wasn't really shown love growing up and felt that she wasn't deserving of it nor did she think that she was capable of giving it's no wonder she has insecurities. It wasn't until she had Vivi that she was made aware that she was very capable of loving another. I adored watching Winter with motherhood as it helped her find true self. The way that she grew throughout and realised with Theo's support and actions that she was deserving of being loved was everything. I wasn't sure if Winter would be able to redeem herself because I honestly didn't care for her much in the previous books, but she did, and I love her so much.
"I get the sense he’ll give me everything if I want it. I just need the nervous voice inside my head to shut the hell up. She sabotages me.
Theo Dale Silva is a flirty, sweet to his core, caring, and funny bull rider. When this man winked gah it made me feel all warm and fuzzy. We don't get to see much of the struggles that he has and had gone through, and that is one thing that I would have liked to see more of him. Outside of that, though, I fell hard for Theo. The way that he stepped up and became a father to Vivi without even blinking an eye while also making sure that Winter is cared for as well was commendable. This man had me swooning so hard and wanting him to be my baby daddy. Move over Cade because we have a new daddy in town.
“Watch your fucking tone when you’re talking to the mother of my child.”
Winter and Theo had a connection from the beginning even through their banter that I couldn't get enough of. I loved their first moment together and how they poked at the other to rile them up. They couldn't be more oppostite but they worked together so well complimenting one another so perfectly. I enjoyed watching them work together to build their family even when it was new with supporting and finding comfort with one another. I loved the way that they showed up for each other when they were vulnerable sensing that they needed the other to just be there for them when they felt no one else was. It was pulling at my heart in the most heart wrenching ways making me tear up at some of these moments.
“He said, ‘Mom, I met her.’ And I said, ‘Who?’” Loretta’s lips curve up, her eyes taking on a faraway look. “He said, ‘The woman I’m going to marry one day.’”
“Winter, we are a thing. We are the thing. We are it.”
The found family in this was awe amazing. I love the way they are always there for each other even when it seems like they don't want the help. Let me just give Theo's mom Loretta some recognition. She was so sweet and accepting of Winter from the start even with hearing some stories about her. Now I see where Theo got his sweet and caring side from. I swear this series has had some of the best found family. Can they adopt me? I would love to be a part of this big family and their group texts.
There really was only one thing that I didn't care for in this, which is why it wasn't a 5 star read. That is the miscommunication in the beginning. I feel like it could have been conducted and resolved in a different way. Aside from that, I absolutely adored this, and though it's close with Heartless, I have to say that this one does take the cake in being my favorite. Now off to finish this series with Beaus book, and I'm a bit scared as I've not seen the best about it.
Favortie quotes and moments
“I could fucking bury whoever made you believe you’re as unlovable as you seem to think.”
“Winter,” I rasp. “I have sponsors. And agents. Doctors and trainers. Those are business relationships. You and I are a lot of things, but business partners is not one of them.”
“Why not? We could be.”
“Because the things I dream about doing to you are horribly unprofessional.”
“What’s happening is Miss Independent met the treat- her- like- a- princess guy, and she’s freaking out.”
"Tink. You’ve ruined me. Don’t you get it? I only see you. You’ve got all my attention. Every last bit of it.”
“Te vivo.” It’s better than “I love you”. It’s more accurate. It’s us."

Pre-review: I've heard this is as good as Heartless. Please be a good redemption arc for Winter 🤞 Theo. I'm coming for you 🤭
