The course of this book takes place over a 24-hour period. Four characters will see their lives change during that time. One Year After You is the gripping continuation of events that occurred in the unforgettable One Day With You book. Can this book be read as a standard-alone? It can be but you will be missing so much backstory that I highly recommend reading One Day With You first.

It has been one year since Tress Walker’s husband was killed in a car accident while driving with his mistress, Anya. Tress was in labor when her husband died and learned after of his infidelity and death. Noah Clark was heartbroken and shocked to learn his wife Anya was having an affair with his best friend, Max. He was with Tress while she gave birth and they have been close ever since.

Odette Devine is an actress on Scotland's longest running television show. But she has been informed that her time on the show is over. She can't help but wonder if this is the price, she must pay for a lie she once told.

Keli Clark (Noah's sister) has recently been ghosted by a man she was seeing. She is heartbroken, which leads to devastation and anger when a stranger reaches out to her.

I was fully invested in this book from the very first page. I wanted to know more about the characters, their plight, their struggles, their triumphs, and for some, how their lives have changed since the events in One Day With You. Shari Low did not disappoint, in fact she dazzled. I found this book to be gripping, heartfelt, humorous, hopeful, dramatic, and hard to put down. I enjoyed the characters, even the ones I didn't care for as they were so brilliantly described and presented on page.

This is the second Shari Low book that I have read, and I am kicking myself for not reading more of her books. I need to remedy that. She writes characters that I grew to care about, I was rooting for some and enjoyed booing and hissing at others. I appreciated how her books deal with serious topics and themes but also have fun and light moments in them as well. I also appreciated how the author addressed the characters loss, heartbreak, hope, grief, anger, and happiness. That made the characters feel authentic.

Well written, gripping, hard to put down and unforgettable.

3.5⭐
Genre ~ friendship fiction
Series ~ more on this below
Setting ~ Scotland
Publication date ~ January 5, 2024
Est page Count ~ 319 (p+ 33 chapters +e)
Audio length ~ 9 hours 54 minutes
Narrator ~ Helen McAlpine
POV ~ multiple 3rd
Featuring ~ second chance at happiness, unknown cheating, no steamage

We follow 4 main characters for a 24 hour period.

Odette is gearing up for her last day on set after 40 years being the leading lady on a soap opera. It took a while to realize how her story line would tie in.

Tress & Noah are both wonderful characters that are bonded by the past discretion's of their former spouses. They have become best friends and their relationship was lovely to see. I wanted more of them than I got.

Keli is Noah's sister who has been hiding a secret for months. I enjoyed this plot the best and the unlikely friendship with Laurie.

Okay so all in all I did enjoy how the various plots all finally came together. It was a little slow getting there and I wasn't sure how they would, but they did so quite nicely. I'm a fan of multiple POV's, but in this case I thought it took too long to get back to the person's POV that I had just grown curious what would happen next for. Since I had to wait and slog through 3 other people's chapters first I had to think back and try to remember where we left off when we finally came full circle.

Also, since the whole book takes place in one day I thought there was some extra unnecessary information ~ for instance I don't really care about Noah's friend, Cheska's, whole work bio at all. I would have much preferred some flashbacks of Tress and Noah and how close they became over the past year for some page filler.

Shoutout to Nancy, Val, Yvie and Glinda for being the best side characters I might have ever read. A true delight these 4 were.

Again, I did enjoy it and I know this will surely appeal to the many...I mean it says right on the cover it's a million copy bestseller.

Series notes:
It's not listed as a series for some reason, but I think it's best to read One Day With You first. There is a bit of a refresher, but this is the aftermath for the 2 characters from that one.

Narration notes:
I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference.

EXCERPT: Odette
I'm very aware life can change in a heartbeat. In a minute. In an hour. In a day.
Forty years ago, I was working in a school canteen in a village on the outskirts of Glasgow, despairing that my dream of becoming an actress would amount to nothing more than another cliched story of failed ambition and grudging obscurity. Then a twist of fate presented an opportunity to get everything I ever wanted, but I had to do the unforgivable to claim it. Now the fame, the fortune and the glory are being stripped away from me and I am going to be left with nothing and no one. And I can't help wondering if I'm paying the price for my sins of the past.

ABOUT 'ONE YEAR AFTER YOU (ONE DAY WITH YOU #2): For forty years the fabulous Odette Devine has been a beloved matriarchal actress on Scotland’s longest-running TV show. Today she is broken, betrayed, and desperate to find out if this is her payback for a lie she told forty years ago.

Twenty-four hours. Four shocking secrets. One tumultuous tale of love, loss and second chances.

MY THOUGHTS: If you like a HEA with plenty of heart-stopping moments along the way, you can't do better than pick up a Shari Low book.

One Year After You follows on from One Day With You, and yes you will need to read One Day With You first or a lot of what happens and the relationships between the characters may not make much sense. It's a delightful read, so it won't be a hardship.

One Year After You starts with a teaser, including the one above, from each of the main characters - Odette, Tress, Noah, and Keli.

It is one year since the accident that claimed the life of Max Walker, one year since baby Max Walker (aka Buddy) was born. A lot has happened in that year.

I loved that Shari Low has given us the opportunity to catch up with the lives of these characters and introduced us to the wonderful character of Odette.

One Year After You contains Shari Low's classic mixture of tragedy, comedy, romance, friendship, betrayal and heartbreak. Her characters are so well portrayed, feel so real, that I become fully invested in their lives and feel a loss when I close the cover on them.

If you have a heart condition, I recommend that you position yourself close to an AED for the second half of the book. My emotions were all over the place and my heart got a good workout.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

So often we say goodbye to characters we’ve become friends with over the course of a great story and we never get a chance to find out how they are faring later on. Author Shari Low has given readers the chance to revisit her characters and see how their choices impacted them (and those around them) and how the trajectory of their lives has changed from when we last met them. I loved the chance to see continued character arcs and continued growth.

What I loved:

❤️continuation of Max & Tress and Noah & Anya’s stories from ‘One Day With You’
❤️second chances
❤️shocking secrets
❤️pacey read
❤️emotional connection
❤️connecting with characters' struggles
❤️opportunity to increase empathy/sympathy
❤️realizing that struggles come at any age - none of us are immune!

Another winner from a trusted author!

I was gifted this copy by Boldwood Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

This story is filled with interesting characters who were all facing their own demons and dilemmas. The story is well-written and told over a twenty-four-hour period. This is an easy and addictive book to read. It's also one of those books where you say just one more chapter, but one chapter is never enough. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of One Year After You by Shari Low. This story was well written and everything happened within the span of twenty-four hours. It was very easy to read and very entertaining. This is my first book by Shari Low and it will not be my last. I did not realize that this book was to follow One day With You. It read well as a stand alone. This was a heartwarming story about love, family, and friends. I would definitely recommend it. 4 stars for me.

Following on from One Day With You (it can be read as a standalone) we are back with Tress and Noah a year after their lives were shattered. We also get to meet Odette a matriarch of a popular show who has just been booted to appeal to a younger audience.

Some authors write great plots, others create amazing characters that feel as real as friends/family. Shari is one of the rare few that manages both seemingly with ease. I love, as an older reader, that she includes older characters with rich lives and stories to tell. Women with years of experience and in this case a few skeletons in the closet.

Odette had my heart and as her fortunes fail and past misdemeanours seem to be bringing karma to her dressing room door, I couldn’t help but want her to succeed even though others are willing to step over her on their way to the top.

Tress is now a set designer on Odette’s show while juggling being a single mum to Buddy with the help of Noah and the wonderful return of my favourites Val and Nancy. With a little help from Shania Twain they have their own mission.

The interwoven storylines and characters and the introduction of new ones that bring them all together I have learnt is Shari’s trademark style. Along with heart, tearful moments and glorious humour. She also writes a terrific love to hate baddy.

As you’ve probably guessed I adored this book and I will leave you with my favourite passage from the very wise Gilda to her daughter.

A great sequel. I did a mixture of reading and listening to the audiobook version. The narrator was very good and brought the characters to life well. Another wonderful story by Shari Low. I love the constant recurring characters from her other books, especially Nancy and Val ☺️

This is the continuation of the unforgettable One Day With You story and takes place in over a 24 hour period one year later. Can it be read as a stand-alone? I guess so because there is a cast of characters listed in the beginning, but I think to truly enjoy the story for all it is meant to be, you need to have read the first book.
It has been one year since Tress’s husband Max was killed in a car accident while driving with his mistress, Anya, who also happened to be Max’s best friend Noah’s wife of over 20 years. Tress was in labor when her husband died and Anya was injured and Noah was with Tress as she gave birth which led to them being super close as a result.
Odette is an actress on Scotland’s longest running soap, but she’s being put out to pasture, and she can’t help but wonder if the lie she told to get her there is finally catching up with her.
Keli is Noah’s sister and has been ghosted by a man she was dating and is now heartbroken so when she gets a call from someone claiming to be his longtime girlfriend, it adds a new level to the heartbreak, but also adds anger to the mix.
In the breakdown of the hours of the day, we see how each of the characters are struggling to deal with what life throws at them, and how their stories intertwine with each other. Tress is a set designer on Odette’s show, Keli is a nurse and happens to be at the same pub when Odette has stroke like symptoms. Noah’s ex comes back into the picture and makes him see what he really wants out of life.
Shari Low writes characters that are easy to get invested in and stories that are gripping, heartfelt, humorous at times and hard to put down. I was able to read this in one day because I couldn’t stop turning pages.

I listened to the audiobook so it really amplified the amount of time spent in the heads of the main characters. Sometimes its good to know what characters are thinking but sometimes, when they are going around in circles, its a bit tiresome.

This satisfying epilogue to One Day With You was like having a warm blanket to curl up with at the end of the day. Easy to read. Loved the characters. Enjoyed Low’s unique Scottish wit. I would highly recommend reading her description about meeting her husband on her website bio. She describes her writing style as ‘type, panic, eat a biscuit, type, panic, eat a biscuit, type, panic… repeated’ which I can also relate to. Will definitely read more Shari Low in the future.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The first book was brilliant, and this follow-up one was too! Shari Low is very talented at creating characters that you can truly care about, and the way they all linked up with each other was carried out so well.

I enjoyed seeing where all of the characters had ended up; the pacing of the storylines was on point and the ending was super sweet. I would definitely recommend both this book and the author ❤️

Highly disappointed, Shania Twain.

TBH, idk how this book was rated “the number one bestseller.” I love love, I really do but… I was so damn disappointed with this one! I’m partly happy for the way it ended. I get it, book 1 ended tragically. So! This book was filled with a lot of unnecessary (for lack of a better term) junk! Message to all my beautiful readers: pretty please stick to book 1 only. Let your imagination run wild as to the “aftermath.”

I read the first book of this duo last year, and loved it, but forgot about it as I read it so quick. It was a lovely surprise to see this second book out, and I rushed to read it.
This story mainly follows Tress and Noah dealing with the aftermath of the previous book, one year later to the day. It also follows two brand new characters, Odette and Kali.
I really liked how happy this book was in comparison to how sad the previous book was, and I loved that the story now finally feels complete.
The way the author brings all 4 characters’ stories together is incredible, I loved this about the previous book, but I think it might have been done better this time! I was genuinely shocked when plot points were revealed - I just loved this story!
I also loved the reference to Beyonce!
As a whole, this was just a nice cheery book, that was a little bit of a romcom trashy style book, but I really enjoyed it!

Rating: 4/5 ⭐️

Some quotes I loved:
‘This kid could fix anything.’

‘This was the type of woman who offered to bury the bodies of anyone who hurt her friends.’

‘It wasn't heartache that was the most upsetting thing to deal with. It was the kindness and sympathy that people showed when you were at your worst. That's what broke down the walls that people put up to protect them from pain.’

‘Noah Clark had just realised what he wanted to keep and what he was prepared to lose.’

‘'Don't you ever, EVER...' Oh shit, the voice was getting raised. '...
Give away your power or your happiness to a man again.’

2 be loved (am i ready) - Lizzo 🎶

My first review of 2024, and I’ve started the year on a high! I loved this book, which was written from multiple points of view. We have Odette - a soap star nearing the end of her career, Keli - a nurse on an elderly care ward, Noah - a paediatric doctor, and Tress - a set designer on the soap that Odette stars in. They all live in Glasgow and are all linked in one way or another.

One Year After You is set over 24 hours and boy, a lot happens in those 24 hours. We have birthdays, scandals, break-ups and hook-ups. There are a few tear-jerking moments and a lot of comedy - mainly from Nancy and Val, two of the most delightful characters I’ve read about in a long time. They deserve their own story and if there was one, then I’m sure I’d be laughing out loud!

If you want a good old rom-com to start your year and block out the miserable January weather, then I’d recommend getting yourself a copy of One Year After You by Shari Low. She is fast becoming one of my must-buy authors.

Book Review:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

February 9th was a day that changed Tress and Noah’s lives forever. Now a year after the accident they find themselves on the precipice of new beginnings. Will this be the second year February 9th brings them heartbreak, or will it be the healing they desperately need?

I have concluded that if Shari Low writes a book, I will love it. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors, having mastered ensemble storytelling. Not only does Low effortlessly weave multiple characters stories together, she does so on a twenty-four hour time frame.

While One Year After You is a sequel to One Day With You, readers can easily jump into the story of Tress, Noah, Keli, and Odette. At the beginning of the book Low does a character breakdown and recaps the significant events that took place during One Day With You. This is a perfect introduction if readers have not read the first story, but it also helps those returning to the story as well. I thought for sure I would need to reread One Day With You, but Low does such a fantastic job recapping that I was able to dive right into this story. It was helpful without being too repetitive.

As with One Day With You, I don’t want to go into too much detail as to spoil the plot. This is a beautiful story that reminded me how important forgiveness and being open to love is. While life can be messy, it can also be a beautiful journey.

Special thanks to Netgalley, Shari Low, and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read the ARC of One Year After You.

This is the second book I have read by this author and I was not disappointed. One Year After You all takes place in a 24-hour period exactly one year after Shari Low's One Day With You. Tress and Noah return and we find out what they have been up to over the course of this year. The book is broken down into 2-hour segments with four main characters. I fell in love with all of the characters in this book and I stayed invested in them the whole way through. One Year After You was a real page-turner for me and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. This is a heartwarming story about the importance of love, family and friends. I laughed and even shed a few happy tears. Definitely a great read.

“One Year After You” by Shari Low follows four characters during a 24-hour period as they come to terms with betrayals of the worst sort, including adultery, ghosting a former lover, and cheating to get to the top. But it is also a story of love, moving on, and finding love and acceptance. I hadn’t realized until after I finished the book that this is a continuation of “One Day With You”, a book I haven’t read. I thought it was excellent as a stand-alone book and I felt fully invested in these interesting characters. But now, I really want to go back and read the first one.

One year after you by Shari Low, Free Amazon Prime Reading, Tress her husband died in a car accident, he was in the car with his mistress. Tress was in hospital giving birth. Noah his wife was the mistress. Keli Noahs sister is in a relationship 3 months but now she's being gaslight. Odette a Scottish soap star is retiring and all she wants is forgiveness. Lots of characters which at first were confusing but eventually it was clearer. A really enjoyable story. Read quickly. 4* Kindle. A nice change from my thriller suspense stories I tend to go to.

Good sequel to One Day With You. A page turner as well, this one also develops in a span of 24 hours, and it takes place exactly a year after the previous book. It was very cool to read where everyone ended up one year after. I love how all the characters end up being intertwine, their individual stories were fascinating. The characters are very well developed, and the writing feels very natural, with a good flow. I definitely recommend you read the first book prior to this one. And I recommend both books for sure.

(I really wanted to rate this a 3.5, but I rounded up!)

This book has a cute premise – the entire book takes place on one day, and the book is divided into parts of the day, i.e. 8–10, 10 – noon, etc. There are several stories that all weave together and conclude by midnight!

This was the second book in a series, but I didn’t read the first book. That didn’t seem to matter; in fact, if I had read the first book, I would probably have been annoyed because so much of the story is giving background information – things that I assume happened in the first book. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It was a cute story, though, and started with a list of all the characters and ended with an epilogue!
