First things First, this isn't Namal Period I can see minor reflections here and there but that's what I like to call ✨ Inspiration✨ Therefore this book deserves all the hype and much more to come. It was such a wholesome experience and I'm more obsessed with mehru now knowing she has written such a masterpiece as her debut novel. Representation of characters as 'grey' instead of labelling em as red or green flags was an admirable feat from the very start and as I continued to dive in, I was enamoured with the writing style. The plot was chef's kiss. I smiled a lot and I sobbed a lot and yes, I annotated a lot like DUH! Bakht doesn't romanticise abuse or glorify rape. Bakht doesn't use 'Islamic factor' for publicity stunt instead teaches us life lessons. Bakht is complete. Bakht is beautiful. And yes, Bakht for sure is recommended!
THIS WAS ONE FANTASTIC BOOK! I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! UMAR AND HAALE ARE SOOO FARIS AND ZUMAR CODED!😭 granted zumar wasn’t this brutal and faris wasn’t this perfect 🤌🏼✨ but these characters have so many similarities! But not in a copy paste way, like in a déjà vu way, if you liked namal and faris zumar duo you would love this book as well!! So well written! With fantastic characters and character developments. NAFEESA HAYAT WAS ONE HELL OF A BADASS MOTHER 🤌🏼✨ BESIDES UMAR, HASSAN IS MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER🫶🏼✨(I cried for him, with him,🥺) I LOVED HAROON SHAHID! DOST HO TO HAROON ON JESA CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT HO TO HAROON SHAHID JESI AUR ASHIQ HO TO BHI HAROON SHAHID JESA😭❤️ . Umar- I LOVED his character. Morally grey? Check Badass? Check. Handsome? Check. Funny? Check. Ideal husband? Check check Check!!
Haale- I’ve mixed feeling towards her character, I I won’t say that I disliked her character but I didn’t liked her either, her character development was really good. (In first 75% she was so self absorbed! , people may justify it but personally I didn’t like her behaviour.) . Why 4 stars and not 5? I felt the end was rushed, or not really rushed but I was waiting for the Big Bang bang bangs but everything happened too smoothly, 3000 pages bhot hote h, m padhte padhte thak gai bhai, okay ab characters ache h story zabardast h to iska matlab ye thodi hal zindagi bhar storyline khatm hi na ho😭 ; and the last paragraph? IMO it was not needed, like, at all! I was hoping that haale and Umar would adopt him and give him a loving life, I mean who can appreciate an abandoned child better than Umar!?

Urdu Bingo 2025 (21) : Debut Novel by a new author
The amount of eye rolling I did while reading this, Aankhen Dukh Gayin bhai😭
Words Copied from صدیقتی , Cause that's exactly what I was thinking while reading this..
I really wish if I had read this before, 4 or 5 years back, during my teens and I'd be head over heels for those dialogues, characters & that OTT treatment which writer is giving. Cause now I want to read the books /writings which has some kind of ٹھہراؤ in it, subtle, more of showing than telling, sensible, practical, realistic...
I relate to Haley Sultan so much.. Especially her relation with her father. The way Umer respected her ego and gave her time to adjust is AMAZING. My favourite line was 'mere favourite to aj bhi tum ho' and how he used to call her 'pasandeedah nazara'😭😭😭😭😭 anyways the book is worth reading.
Update : This book was basically my 2nd urdu novel i loved it when i first read it But now that i read some urdu classics like : Peer e kamil,Jo bache hai sang samait lo, Amarbail, namal etc i feel like this book is just copy and mixture of all these
Copied dialogue and what not Like the whole concept of Mehermah the villain is directly copied from Jo bache hai Sang samait lo Haley being colorblind is from Peer e kamil Umer gifting perfume is from amarbail Kidnepping scene is from Namal
Ughhh the list keeps going Also the unnecessary plot and dragging
First and foremost, it isn't a copy of namal whatsoever. I got into this book after I heard it's strongly inspired by namal, which is what compelled me to pick up this book. I had just finished reading namal and it quickly became one of my all time favourite novels. So naturally i was curious to find out why it was being compared to namal. But now that i have read it, i fail to see the resemblance.
The novel starts off with a very cliche and melodramatic scene , to the point of eye-rolling. Initially I found MFC super annoying and unlikeable. The first time I started it, I could hardly finish one chapter and decided to dnf it. But then after few weeks I decided to give it another try via audiobook.
The enemies-to-lovers arc of Halay and Umar was interesting and their chemistry was compelling and endearing. I liked Umar's character which made this novel bearable for me, though I couldn't really like Halay much due to her self absorbant characteristics and her egotistical behaviour with other characters esp. Haroon. I feel she often behaved liked a privileged and self centered heir and i personally couldn't resonate with her. However her character developed by the end which made her tolerable and likeable to some extent.
There were some very strong secondary roles. The storyline of farwa and nageen's enmity and their history was very gripping. Besides Haroon's healing journey, Yaqoot's redemption and Nafeesa's moral fierceness had me completely hooked later in the novel.
It was quite a lengthy novel of some 2300+ pages. There were some parts where the story was dragged and needlessly philosophical. However the theme of this novel was well and truly conveyed. The motif of "Bakht" (fate) versus free will is woven throughout, which prompts reader to reflect on destiny's role in one's personal decisions. It also indicates that no one can steal or rob you off your 'bakht'. Every person is born with predestined fate and no human can change or alter that (bakht).
In short, if you enjoy long-form Urdu romances with suspense, moral dilemmas, and layered relationships, and don’t mind some melodrama and typical clichés then Bakht would be the perfect novel for you.
This is less of a novel and more like an INDIAN SOAP DRAMA. The story had so much potential but unnecessary drags, dumb plots and over exaggerated characters ruined it. I only kept reading because everytime i thought it will get better but sadly it didn’t.
After every few pages kisi ka accident ho jata ha, koi Coma mein chala jata ha, koi nar jata ha. Conveniently har important situation mein koi har kam ka bnda ghaib ho jata ha. Itny twist itny dumb twist k bnday kahy agghh ab kya naye musibat agye. FULL INDIAN DRAMA VIBES Poor character building, buray log boht buray ha. Achay log zyada he achy ha. Poor character development. Unnecessarily stupid depiction of women to the point of insult. It seems like author watched tonnes of indian and Pakistani saas bahu dramas (not the good ones) and just used the dialogues in her writing. And what the hell is “ itni kamoshi thi k aisa lg raha jaisa DAYAN phr k gye ho” baji??? Who writes like this.???
Same lines are repeated like a million times. Characters are illogically genius. Sb extraordinary toppers b ha. Haseen b ha. Goray b ha. Ok we get it. But why is the author throwing shade on people who SAANWALY or less goray. Why are you mentioning k saanwali ha lekin iss skin color k log b khoobsorat ho skty ha?????
And the character of Omer Hayat. So this guy is adopter child, runs off from house at 18 yo. Worked in an orphanage. He is so extraordinary k ye bhai sahab CSS topper ha, PhD topper b bn gye, high ranking police officer b ha, Successful tareen businessman b ha. Aur orphanage k manager b ha. Wow. And abi ye sirf 28 saal k ha. 🤨
I cannot tell you amount of eye rolling i did while reading this story.
Started off nice and then became 'meh' pretty quick. I didn't know about the story behind this novel, so right off the bat I could tell it was inspired by so many other famous ones.
Loved the character of Umer Hayat (duh), Haley and other 'good' ones gradually grew on me. But goodness gracious if the author didn't justify the sins and actions of pretty much every bad character.
Pretty much every human's present is governed by their past. But as an adult, to blame others for our own actions is extremely stupid.
Also, don't even get me started on the justification and redemption for what Yaqoot did.
Too long. Everyone is a philosopher and everyone preaches. Story was good but it could have been way shorter.
Haley was extremely annoying in the beginning and the constant repetition in dialogues was dragging. Excellent effort for a first book. Hope it improves.
4.5/5 Finished it this morning 🗡️ and I’m obsessed with the storyline, the plot, and the writing (plot was easily predictable) Haroon Shahid is my most comfort character such a respectful and dignified guy🫀 Felt bad for Safeer❤️🩹 and Mehrmaah honestly, Actions have consequences, babygurl🙁 In the end, yall knw “انتقام کا چکر کبھی ختم نہیں ہوتا” -اسراء
First of all i want to talk about Umer Hayat. The character which mesmerized me or may be i should say hypnotized me. what are character. He is a Standard. He is Mixture of Salar sikandar, Cihan sikander and Faris Ghazi. The best written character in this whole novel. Initially i thought when Haroon loved Haley for so long, Safir loved her but only Umer got her, why? but after reading his character i can say why because they both deserve each other. They are Soo Zumar and Faris coded. Hate, friendship, love everything was amazing written. He is the dream guy for every girl. I loved his character a lott. He is in my top 5 list forever. He taught what love is and also how important for us create boundaries even with the people we are in love with. He taught us how much self love is important. Why we need credibility to survive in this world. He was not perfect he was Human. He did mistakes apologized for those mistakes. His character is not some fantasy world character where is male lead is so perfect without any flaws. He is Human and that made me fall in love with him. God can i also get a man like Umer Hayat Please. Self obsessed and Kanjoozz shor 😅
Nafeesa Hayat - if i can give an award for woman of the Novel world i would give it to this Woman. She is the best. her teachings, her patience, Her strength, Her personality, her love towards Umer, Her self respect boundaries. ufff She is one of the strongest character in this novel.
Haroon Shahid - He is sweet, sweeter and sweetest person. One of the best characters of the Novels. He choose himself over his love. He started loving himself. He prioritized himself. He is the deepest character but i felt bad for him. i cried with him. He deserve the best girl. The writer could have written a simple love story for him but i really got to know the deep feelings of One sided love. I wish i have some one like Haroon in my life🤍. One word - Comfort Character.
Hassan - Sweet boy. The one who suffered a lot in this whole novel. I felt very bad for him but at last he got Umer and i really enjoyed his character alot. His adakari, his Character development. I wish i had a brother like Hassan. I wanted to Kill shams when he was playing with this boy, hitting him. God my heart was like this baby boy doesn't deserve any of this.
Most loved part is the friendship between Umer, Haley, Haroon and Lail. Their Understanding, Their Fights. Their friendship added the flavor to the story.
I felt bad for safeer. Kya se kya bangaya yeh banda dekhte dekhte. His character show how women suffer because of the kaanke kachey husbands. Those life partner who doesn't trust their partners and listens to the order people and judge their partners. Tho he deserve the good ending and he got it.
Shams and Parva exactly deserve what they got.
I really liked Haleys father Character. Dream father role. every girl deserve this kind of father.
Meher - OMG this gurl initially i felt bad for her but once i got to know about this girl i really hated her character. i mean she is a psychology student i mean gold medalist and her plannings uff stooped so low. i mean she could have played better. after reading her ending i felt so better. she killed people. she played with people's feelings. she drugged her own husband. I learned the best lesson from this girl like no one should stoop so low in love. she have no self respect and her justifications are so low.
The storyline was great. felt like inspired from Namal. The love story between Haley and Umer their Nok jhok. Their fights, Their Words OMG one of My fav love story ever. Haley ko Umer ka qatal bhi maaf hai, Haley sultan umer hayat ka pasandidaa nazara hai, The way he sleeps in her lap, the way he always drink the coffee and tea from her cups. I wish i get this kind of lovestory.
Finally I really enjoyed the overall Story, cried along with characters, smiled with them. Felt emotional with them.
The whole book felt like a copy of several other famous novels. Literally, the first scene was taken straight from "Kuch Ishq Mein Rang-e-Junoon Bhi Tha." The accident scene involving Nagween was copied from "Bin Roye." Almost all the dialogues felt reused. The writer seriously needs to understand that there’s a huge difference between being “inspired by” and blatantly copying someone’s work.
Also, the theme where Umer Hayat and Halay get married unwillingly and then work together on a murder case it's the exact same storyline from *Namal*. And these are just a few examples. I could point out every scene the author copied from other books.
Now, let’s talk about the characters. Every single one of them felt like a lecturer or philosopher. So many long, dragged-out paragraphs, honestly, they made my blood boil. Halay's character was just plain stupid. Her actions made no sense at all. Umer's character had zero development, just money and being labeled a “self-obsessed aadmi,” which, by the way, is also from "Namal," just replaced here with “2 number aadmi.”
And Haroon? I don’t even know what to say. From the start, I found him dumb. The scene where Halya was about to give blood, he made such a big deal out of it! Then he kept quiet about knowing the entire Umer Hayat situation, and Halya just forgave him like nothing happened? His explanation was laughable.
As for Halay's behavior with her brother, it made no sense. She didn’t want to stay with him because she thinks everyone close to her ends up hurt. But on the other hand, she was still in contact with Mehr? And that's the only character I liked.
GOD 😭😭 IDK WHERE TO START AND HOW YO WRITE THE REVIEW FOR THIS BOOK . Okay I'll try to sum up my thoughts as much as I can but it's hard since this book deserves such a long and detailed review but I'm not that good with words 😋. If you are looking for something that has romance, mystery, thriller, crime then you should definitely try reading this book. It was my first time reading Mehar's book and I must admit the writing style and the way she gives her books the touch of religion and deep stuff is admirable. The story revolves around Halay, Umer, Haroon, Hassan, Lail as well . The way they uncovered the truth and worked as a team was such a nice thing to witness 🤌 squad vibes. AND guys the chemistry between The main leads 😭😭😭 AHHHHH that was sooo intense. WRITER KNOWS HOW TO WRITE ROMANTIC SCENES WITHOUT VULGARITY AHHH . They really got me giggling and smiling over book pages 😋. They were really serving the true enemies to lovers. Yk what this book got so many lessons after every 5 pages like that was literally mind blowing how writer brings up the problem and also gives us the solution. The brave ladies of this novel 🤌 uf. This is the best masterpiece I have ever read In my reading history . After Nemrah ahmed, Mehrunisa shahmeer is my favorite writer . She knows how to carry all the things together from jokes to sadness to romance to angst to hate to jealousy everythinggg was covered so perfectly and the book also highlights the importance of friends and how one should be treating them. Friendship of Haroon and Halay was so cute :3 . This book serves so many lessons which get so overwhelming at a time and I would say it's such a good thing in books.
First things first: DNF. I couldn't finish Bakht, not because the themes lacked potential, but because the execution didn’t work for me.Almost every character felt like a preacher, constantly delivering long monologues or philosophical thoughts. While that might appeal to some, it became overwhelming after a point. Nearly every scene was packed with long paragraphs, which slowed the pace and made it hard to stay engaged. Shorter, more impactful dialogue would’ve worked much better. At halfway through, I still couldn’t figure out what exactly was going on in the plot. There was a lot of emotional and thematic buildup, but very little clarity or cohesion. Characters: Nafeesa Hayat was the standout for me. A strong, well-written woman who deserved more attention and backstory. Haroon Shahid started strong, but his actions later didn’t add up. He denied knowing someone, then claimed he was protecting a friend, even though Halay had told him to tell the truth. It felt like he betrayed a friend for love—but this twist wasn’t handled clearly. I started this book for him. Umar Hayat didn’t feel consistent. His love for beauty and money suddenly became central to his character without buildup. Halay Sultan, the female lead, felt confused and underdeveloped. Her emotions weren’t clearly expressed, and her decisions didn’t make much sense. This book had potential, and I understand it’s a debut novel but it needed tighter writing, better character consistency, and a clearer plot.
Ok first and foremost, so proud of Mehrunisa for debuting such an outstanding novel at such a young age, girl had potential and it showed. It is inspired by Namal and you can see that in the plot somewhere but other than that Bakht itself is was phenomenal. Bakht isnt just a palpitable, swoon worthy love story of Umer and Halay, its way beyond a romance. May i mention Nafeesa Hayat, the woman that you are. the way the author wrote her and portrayed her character, shes the one woman i will envy and will aspire to be all my life. Bakht has life lessons, stuff to stop and think about for a while that makes you put down your book and think about it for a while and process. Another thing i absolutely loved was how the characters were "grey" instead of being labelled green and red flags. Even our main characters made mistakes, questionable things, lies, manipulations, things that would be considered "grey" and i loved that diving into the plot. The plot was predictable after a while but still there were alot of gasp worthy factors that you would not see coming.
I smiled a lot and I sobbed a lot and yes, I annotated a lot like DUH! Bakht does not romanticise abuse or glorify rape. Bakht doesn't use the "Islamic factor" for publicity stunt instead teaches us life lessons. Bakht is complete. Bakht is beautiful. And yes, Bakht for sure is recommended!
Okay, based on what I've read so far, I've seriously realized that this writer has completely copied the style of Nemra Ahmed. I don't mind this—every human being takes inspiration in art from others, and that's fine. But the funny thing is that she has used many direct lines from Nemra Ahmed's novels. For example, those Shahzadi descriptions that "shahzadio ki tarah baat karna etc" are totally from Halim, and that recurring line about the new badshah in any hakoomat? That's all Nemra's vibe. And the biggest one: the iconic line of Jihan Sikandar from Jannat Kay Patay: "Kash main us rat soya nah rahta." He said it when Haya was kidnapped. The same exact line was said by Umar when Halay was kidnapped! That felt like a bit too much copying. Nvm. My guesses about Umar were right all along, but I didn't think that Meherma would turn out to be the daughter of Farwa’s sister-in-law. That was a really good twist.
Looking back, the ending and the way the characters wrapped up were pretty obvious. This whole thing could have been finished much faster. The one thing that surprised me was Meherma. I genuinely did not imagine her as the villain, so that was something new and credit where it's due. It was overall a good read for me. I just really wish writers would focus on creating their own unique style instead of adopting someone else's.

I read this novel a year or so ago , after multiple reels on Instagram on how it is revenge-based and basically found a combination of some famous novels. Yes, this novel is highly like Namal and Halim, more like "zara saste mein dekhana". people who are saying it is an inspiration need to know how inspiration work, it have literally the same iconic dialogues and writing style. The whole novel is written in tell not show manner, for eg we are always told that Haalay is this woman with aura who knows how to get her work done but yet we find her as immature and kinda self-absorbed woman. Haroon character is literally sasti copy of adam bin Muhammad from halim. so many unnecessary plotlines for example of yaqoot and noah. and every character is as cringe as you can imagine especially umer hayat (I have no idea why women like him )Whole novel is filled with theory lectures . And come on even ending is same as namal (now tell me it is an inspiration not a copy) there is a difference between getting inspired and then writing or taking a novel changing some points and write another story , another novel it have an uncanny resemblance is khawab sheeshay ke. I mean the writer have potential but please develop your own style rather than combining the famous stories and then write. Rest to each their own and seeing that many high reviews I can see urdu literature is losing its touch slowly
Okay this book was NOT namal at all! The story was so different. Yeah some dialogues were quite same but still it was so different and SO PERFECT! I loved this book! This book offers valuable lessons. And I appreciated how author handled rape topic without romanticising it. Umer hayat, our main guy, he was such a green flag character seriously he was so perfect and cute. His love for money was hilarious ahaha. His love for haley was heartwarming . The way he respected all his relationships. He was a great husband, friend and son.and nafeesa hayat was an incredibly strong character. (Saas ho to nafeesa jaisi warna ☠️🥹)Haley sultan, okay she was soooo annoying at start but after some time i really liked her. And haroon shahid i feel so freaking bad for him but still he got happy ending in his own way :) Haroon, lail, umer and haley’s friendship was so good. The way umer and haley teased each other was so funny and perfect ahaha. I laughed, sobbed, and smiled throughout the book. This novel was so good and if you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for? Go and read it. This is the MUST read.
I read this novel after ending NIMRA AHMED'S novel. I have heared about this novel that this is so extraordinary and unputdownable novel by Mehrunnisa Shahmeer. I think that this was the first novel of her. I think the writer was inspired by NAMAL. The plot of novel is about revenge. The novel characters like HALAY SULTAN , UMAR HAYAT , HASSAN SULTAN, MAIRAJ SULTAN, NAFEESA HAYAT are really impressive characters. Like how Halay had a past trauma and Umar Hayat was self made person and Miraj sultan was such an honourable judge and how Hassan Sultan managed his life after a mystery. MAHAR MAHz character was really good. The novel character has really a good humar. I personally like HAROON SHAHID character. How he heal himself by his skill. "But i think the writer donot manage the novelz plot like this was her first novel and i donot see perfectness in the novel, unnecessary plot and dragging." Overall novel was good. You must read it if you have leisure time. BUT IF YOU ARE PROFESSIONAL READER AND YOU ARE LOOKING FOR PROFESSIONAL MATERIAL THEN I DONOT PREFER THIS BOOK. BUT IF YOU ARE IN SEARCH OF ROMANTIC NOVEL THEN YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!
Disclaimer: This review reflects my personal thoughts and feelings while reading the book. Others may have different perspectives and experiences. ---
I enjoyed reading this book and will definitely recommend it. Some parts were really relatable, especially where the author was advising her audience through the characters. However, some parts felt a bit drawn out.
The FL (female lead) was annoying at the start but showed significant personal growth and was written very well. Despite my love for the ML (male lead), I have some disagreements with his character. He was portrayed as too perfect, handling everything on his own, which gave some parts an unrealistic touch. Also, the part where he had been in love for ages, and although I love the concept, it feels a little unbelievable because his feelings developed after seeing her only a few times. There was no real character meet-up or development, so this level of love felt a bit exaggerated. However, after she saved his life, and everything that happened afterwards - that gave a solid enough reason for his feelings to grow.
The plot was good, and I had no disappointment there. It met my expectations from beginning to end. Everything was satisfactory. The internal monologues were hilarious; I especially loved them when Umer was talking to himself in his head.
I loved the bond they formed—Hala, Umer, Haroon, and Lail. Their scenes were the ones I looked forward to, and they made the story feel more grounded in reality. For me there’s no such thing as a one-man show; there are always dependable supporting characters.
I loved Nafesa's character also. I was also expecting a little insight on how she took her revenge.
Overall, it was a engaging read.

Bakht – This Urdu word refers to fate, but it holds a much deeper meaning in our lives. Bakht is the silent architect of our journey, the unseen hand that turns the pages of our story and weaves together the moments of joy, sorrow, struggle, and triumph. The central theme of this novel emphasize that every choices of ours has a consequence and we cannot snatch away someone’s fate because everything is pre ordained. It’s a beautiful story with a strong plot and equally strong characters.
Whether it’s Umer, Meherma, Yakut, Haroon, or even Farwa, every character compels you to reflect on their actions and motivations, making you question: Was it fate, or was it choice? This novel beautifully blurs the lines between the two, drawing the reader into a world where destiny is inevitable, yet human will still plays its part. It’s a must read story for those who likes to read actual plots rather than repeated tropes. Overall the journey of this novel is a wonderful experience in itself.
My first book of Mehrunnisa Shahmeer and I am so in love with her writing style. The way she described every scene and the way she wrote such strong characters is just incredible.I saw a lot of people comparing Namal with Bakht but THIS IS NOT NAMAL.I know there are similarities here and there but Bakht's character are much more realistic then Namal's character. One could see that Mehru wrote all of her Characters with so much love and from Umar to Yaqoot every character was very well written. From Halay to Narmeen every woman was written incredibly too.Again love love love her writing style.🩷
Ps: I thought there cannot be any better character than Faris Ghazi but Umar Hayat changed my opinion.I loved the way his character developed and how he was not always “mr. i am always right” but he had his problems and his “grayness” too.
