"Chasing Shadows" by Stephanie Morris offers a sweet and engaging sports romance that's perfect for a quick, enjoyable read. The story centers on Dr. Chelsea Armstrong, a philosophy professor with a history of disappointing relationships, and Coach Morgan Stubbs, a driven football coach facing immense pressure to turn his team's fortunes around.

The initial meeting between Chelsea and Morgan is indeed an "explosion of dedication and empathy," as the author describes. Their connection is immediate and palpable, with sparks of attraction flying from the start. Morris effectively portrays the push and pull of their burgeoning romance, highlighting the delicate balance they must maintain as their professional and personal lives intertwine.

Chelsea is a compelling character, intelligent and beautiful, but also vulnerable due to her past experiences. Morgan, with his dedication and genuine empathy, is a refreshing hero who is clearly smitten with Chelsea. The author does a good job of showing his internal struggle as he tries to navigate his professional responsibilities and his growing feelings for her.

The book is a short story, which means the pacing is brisk. While this allows for a quick and satisfying read, it also means that some aspects of the relationship development are accelerated. Some readers might crave a more drawn-out exploration of their connection. However, Morris makes the most of the limited space, creating a believable and heartwarming romance.

The inclusion of a physical attack on Chelsea, while a potential trigger for some readers, adds a layer of tension and highlights Morgan's protective nature. It serves to deepen their connection and reinforces the idea of him being her safe haven. It is handled in a way that serves the story, but the author's warning is appreciated.

The writing is smooth and engaging, and the characters are well-developed for a short story. The author creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it easy to get invested in Chelsea and Morgan's journey.

Overall, "Chasing Shadows" is a delightful sports romance that delivers on its promise of a sweet and satisfying love story. It's perfect for readers who enjoy quick, feel-good romances with relatable characters.

Rating: 3.75/5 stars. It's a solid short story, and the characters are engaging, but the length limits some of the depth that could have been achieved.

Two people meet, one a college philosophy professor who has only had bad experiences with her exes, and the other a new football coach who has a lot of pressure to win more than the one game than the team did the year before. The story was beautifully written and had wonderful characters!!! My only negative is the lack of good proofreading, it needed a good once-over. I will definitely be reading more of Ms. Morris' books!
