I really dragged my feet to read this book that I won through Goodreads. Maybe it was the title, or that I looked at it as another boring self-help book. Instead, I actually learned new skills in getting rid of old habits and thoughts in my life. I've learned to make better sound decisions based on facts, not my emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and plan on keeping it in my library to read again.
I have to admit I was a little apprehensive when I read how Involved he is in Christian ministry. I figured the whole book was going to be him telling us how to pray and how god will make everything better. I was pleasantly surprised when he didn't. The book has a lot of good ideas and I enjoyed reading it. I'm going to read it again, take some notes, and "let go off some shitty thoughts".
This book is full of reminders of ways to re-center when things just aren’t right with you. As I read I often thought, “I knew that— why am I not doing it!?” From the perspective of a psychotherapist, Williams nailed it with every strategy. I will be sharing this book with my clients.
It's CBT in a more approachable and digestible form
I won this as part of a Goodreads giveaway. All opinions are my own. I need to give copies of this book to a few friends and family. Lol, evangelizing, me? The short "chapters" allowed me to fit this into my otherwise "busy" non-schedule. I recognized the cognitive errors in most "chapters", however they are written in such a way that they are easier to grasp given the examples and stories the author tells. I'll reread the "chapters" out of order next time, since I see this becoming a goto book when I encounter situations or thinking that will allow me to get a second opinion. I just need to figure out how to (buy and) send this online book to a few online friends who might benefit from it.
