An old letter is all Kristin Perry has of her birth mother. When the Witness Protection Program couldn't keep mother or daughter safe, the woman fled "underground." With the help of private investigator Zane Black, Kristin tries to track her down. Instead, though, she finds herself the target of a series of deadly "accidents." Zane's still searching for her missing mother—but now Kristin's starting to wonder if her family reunion will be the death of them all….
This is another of the Protecting the Witnesses series and the fifth that I've read. The series is an exciting one since it is centered around people in the witness protection system. All are women.
In this book, Kristin Perry loses her parent's in an automobile accident. In going through some of the paperwork in her father's study, she discovers her birth certificate. Now she is on the hunt for her real mother along with the help of Zane, a private detective who is willing to help. She finds searching has brought up the interest of the mob and now she is running for her life.
Easy read and well written but I didn't care for the ending as it doesn't really 'end'. To have closure one would need to read the next book in the 'series'.
A young woman's hunt to find her mother who left witness protection. However, while on the hunt the mafia is also hunting for her mother as well. Who will get to her mother first and who to trust?!
Operation Black Veil: The woman in the black veil has told FBI Special Agent Jackson McGraw that Salvatore Martino, former don of the Martino Crime family, is seriously ill. It has been confirmed that his son wants to kill Eloise Hill, the girl who put his father behind bars, before he dies as a tribute to him. He has also discovered that Eloise's daughter lives in Montana, & is now searching for both of them.
Kristin Perry was brought up in a loving home with parents who adored her. It wasn't until their death that Kristin discovered she was in fact, adopted. A letter from her birth mother states that she has left her because she loves her & she wants her to be safe. Kristin, reeling from the terrible car crash that took her beloved adopted parents, now wants to find her mother, & hires Private Investigator Zane Black to help her.
Zane Black is initially very sceptical of Kristin Perry's plea for help, she has a very sad story, but he's not sure she's telling him everything. He leaves the café telling her he can't help her until she tells him more. Kristin follows, calls out to him, then seems to stumble into the way of an on-coming truck, managing to twist away in time before she is hit. Kristin insists someone pushed her but nobody saw anything & he thinks maybe she's attention seeking. Even when she does finally explain about her mother & the mob, he thinks it a bit far fetched, until he notices grease marks on the back of her jacket - the mark of the mob. Now Zane is determined to not only help her find her mother, but to help protect her from the danger closing in.
I loved this continuation in the "Protecting the Witnesses" Series - this book is #5. You really do need to read these books in order as each book, while a story on it's own, also has a plot which runs & develops through all the 6 books, building up to the grand finale in book 6. This means that you will not only want to read this book, but also the other 5 in the series! So if you are looking for a one off story to read, then this is not the book for you. However, if you are short of reading material & want a series to get you going, then this series will be ideal!
We met Kristin Perry in the first books. She is daughter to Eloise Hill. Eloise was under protection but when a bomb injures her and her baby, Kristin, she leaves a note for Jackson to place her baby in a Christian home and she goes out on her own.
Kristin is looking for her mother and hires PI Zane Black. Jackson has warned Kristin to stop looking as the mob is also looking for them both and danger level is high.
This book ends at such a point that the reader cannot wait to get into the last book and see things come together.
I loved it all the way up until the end. It had amazing detail that kept me up past 1am because I couldn't put it down. I just had to know what happened next! Then all of a sudden it was over! I said to myself "Is that really it???" It's like the author just got tired of writing the book, so she just stopped where she was and sent it to be published. It was a great book overall, but it could have been so much better.
Well thought out and written story about an adopted young women who loses her older parents and wonders if there is any connection to her birth mother. In seeking info, she meets a man who might be able to help her, but danger lurks at every turn. God uses her faith to lead him to rediscovering the Lord for himself. I enjoyed it@
A total copout of a book - one which grabs at the first, then, at the end, lets down with a "nothing" ending - no denoument at all, but merely a set up for the next book in the series, which is not even by the same autho0r - unless all these writers are Franklin. W. Dixon.
Disappointing. It started good, and it continued the story line, but it became highly repetitive about halfway through. I was enjoying the characters until that point as well, but the the main became needier and whiny and pushy. It also seemed to end awkwardly-not really resolved...
