Victims found dead in their homes, with no apparent connection. An ex-con FBI agent, who no longer cares for the rules. A crazed killer willing to stop at nothing… Superstar FBI Agent Morgan Cross was at the height of her career when she was framed, wrongly imprisoned, and sent to do 10 hard years in prison. Finally exonerated and set free, Morgan emerges from jail as a changed person—hardened, ruthless, closed off to the world, and unsure how to start again. When the FBI comes knocking, desperately needing Morgan to return and hunt down a killer who seems to be obsessed with drowning, Morgan is torn. Morgan is not the same person, no longer willing to play by the rules, and will stop at nothing this time. In a non-stop thriller, it will be a deadly cat and mouse chase between a diabolical killer and an ex-con FBI agent who has nothing left to lose—with a new victim’s fate riding on it all.

I’ve NEVER abandoned a series before, but I’m very close. I typically love the quick FBI/Mystery reads Blake Pierce releases, but the repetitiveness in this series drives me nuts. I’m going to start drinking shots when I hear about Derek’s “green eyes”. They are short reads, there is no reason for the billion refreshers about past books every two seconds. I would love to know what happens and the story about her dad, and who framed her, but I just don’t know if I can keep going!
Morgan and Derik are searching for the killer who is leaving women dead in their houses without leaving any leads behind. It has an interesting plot as the killer is a magician with locks leaving no traces of breaking and entering the places, they'll struggle but will find him after many dead end leads. I would rate this book 3,5 stars (if it were possible) as there are so many repetitive descriptions of Morgan's thoughts regarding trust, her partner Derik and her father that make the story longer but not necessarily better. I thank Ms. Pierce for this ARC.
Morgan and Derik have a new case where women are being killed in their new homes but their is no evidence of a break in. Morgan still hasn't heard from Thomas who stole her dog, Skunk. The more Morgan works with Derik the more she thinks she can forgive him. This book has some surprising facts for Morgan to face after the killer is eventually found. Really enjoyed this book!
I love the plots and stories that Blake Pierce produces; however, I struggle with the redundant phrases that are used throughout the book. I would love to give five stars, but some of the repetitiveness is too distracting.
I agree with other reviewers about the annoying repetition throughout this and other books in the series. The “green eyes” seem to be a major fixation of the author. This is especially disconcerting since they were blue at the start of the series.
Sorry, I can't stand asterisk asterisk asterisk! I also do not like robot unemotional narrators. The story was ok, but I will carry on with the series.
