Another hit from Ron Kinscherf and his Papa Tell Me A Book The Baker’s Patio series! Yummies might be my favorite so far—it’s about candy!

The Baker’s garden is starting to wilt as the trees change colors and leaves fall. The ant colony under the patio is busy preparing to move to the Hibernation Tunnel for winter and each team
is checking off its tasks at the Council of Ants: the tunnels are almost ready, supplies are overflowing, and the ant hills are clear of debris. Queen Antasia is grateful and warns work crews that fall means they might come across dangerous “yummies” on the patio—sticky and gooey—which will make them sick. Of course, her son, Prince Antrew is the one who finds a lollipop melting on the patio and tastes it. “Wow! That tastes great!” he says, taking a few more licks, and heads back to the colony. Readers can imagine what happens next! Antrew goes on a sugar high, wonderfully illustrated by Holly Brogaard. Of course, he doesn’t get away with breaking the rules, but it’s the little twist at the end that is the moral for kids and the lesson for adults. I’m not giving it away, but I loved Antrew’s curiosity and contrition. He’s a good son and takes responsibility for his actions. Children will love this book because who hasn’t stolen a little bit of candy when they were told not to?

Yummies is what ants call sugary candy. Queen Antasia tells her colony not to taste or eat a yummy if they find one. Her son, Antrew, discovers a yummy on the patio, and like most children, er, ants, he doesn't listen to his mother and tastes it. Sugar rush! I laughed at what Antrew did after eating the yummy. The illustrations were adorable and funny as Antrew's energy grew more intense. The ending was especially sweet and touching, but I won't give it away. Children will enjoy this story, and their parents will, too.

What happens when the queen ant, Queen Antasia, reminds her son and all the other ants not to eat the gooey, sticky, yummy candy that often appears on the ground in the Fall? Well, her son decides that one little taste couldn't hurt. But oh my, it does!
This lovely children's book written by Ron Kinscherf is the seventh in The Bakers'Patio series. Holly Brogaard continues to illustrate and her gentle, appealing drawings complement a story that all kids can relate to.

Captivating and visually stunning, the latest Baker's Patio installment is a delight. As autumn envelops the ant colony's world, vivid illustrations bring their preparations for winter to life. The cautionary tale of Prince Antrew adds a charming twist, making it a perfect addition to the series. A feast for the eyes and laughs for all ages!
