It’s baseball season at Banana Nut Creek Elementary School, and Steadman and his team can’t wait to get on the field! But when things go badly during the first game, it’s up to Steadman and his teacher, Mr. Dorian Dog, to help the others learn that every one of them is an important member of the team.

“Steadman Squirrel Plays Baseball” had great illustrations showing all of the characters and their emotions. It might be great for children that have had a bad experience with sports, a way to talk about those experiences. I bought it for my five-year-old niece who has had great experiences with soccer and softball. She was surprised at some of the behavior described in the book. We made jokes about it, but I can imagine it may intimidate some that have no experience. Otherwise, pretty funny book for school aged children.
Steadman Squirrel strikes out, and sees lots of adults behaving badly, but his coach tells him that no matter the outcome, you're always important and a winner. Steadman's friend Rema Rabbit then has two strikes, and is shaking with fear. Steadman shares their coach's advice with Rema, and she hits a home run to win the game.
