After all, that’s what friends are for. The two men have known each other forever, but living together and pretending to be a couple means getting to know each other on a whole new level. Once Upon a Christmas House is a steamy, forced-proximity, fake relationship, M/M Christmas romance between a grumpy Scrooge and his best friend’s cheery little brother.

So much repetition! There’s no need to repeat information a million times 😭 This author isn’t for me. I still appreciated that it was fairly low angst and has a happy ending so that’s where the two stars are coming from.
My ratings always reflect my enjoyment of the story. ❀
I so wanted to give Ivyrson Lane Gregory smack upside his head because of his negativism but I just couldn’t do it because he was just blindsided by Emory Bell and wasn’t thinking properly, and who could blame him, Emory is just an adorable guy, who loves Christmas and believes in magic too.
When Trevor, Ivyrson best friend since Elementary school, had to drop out of a TV game show about couples hoping to win $500,000 and a house remodel, Emory Shae Bell volunteered to go in place of his older brother Trevor. Since he was 12 years old, Emory had always had a crush on Ivyrson who spent a lot of time with the Bell family as his own was a horrible mess.
Ivyrson was a 30 year old straight man who had only done one night stands with women. His Father had left such bad memories on the family and Ivy didn’t believe in love, or his ability to love. Emory has always known he was Gay, but didn’t date much after a High School date went very badly wrong.
Emory jumped at the chance to share 8 weeks of showtime ‘living together’ with his older crush Ivy. Neither of them were prepared for what they would need to do to win. Emory had no idea of the strain his heart would suffer when Ivy was so reluctant and afraid that he was going to hurt his best friend’s brother.
They were like chalk and cheese, but opposites do attract and when they lived in The Christmas House in Peppermint Hollow, Ivy should have listened to the stories about the Magic the house was rumoured to contain.
I loved the whole concept of this story about all the very different couples who entered the contest and seeing who was dropped each week. Also noting how these Reality Shows work behind the scenes. There were times I thought Ivy and Emory would get dropped, but then Emory would encourage Ivy to up the ante and they’d survive another week, but poor Emory’s heart is near breaking.
Of course this is a Christmas Tale so be prepared to suspend disbelief when the Magic has its way. There is plenty of warm fluffy feels on offer when learning the ways of love.
This is part of a Christmas Duo and these Characters also feature in Book 2, which is also a gorgeous read. So if you’re frazzled by Christmas Shopping etc. grab these two books and just sit and relax and enjoy.
**4.5** What a wonderful Christmas story. It has a bit of everything for me - fake relationship, brother's best friend, grumpy/sunshine, a little bit of angst in their personal histories, fairly low angst romance, a good amount of heat that builds in the bedroom. Emory is a total sweetheart, a little lost with what he wants to do with his life but instantly wants to help Ivy, regardless of the crush he's had on the older man since he knew he was gay as a teen. He's adorable in his festive cheer but had some bad relationship experiences which has put him off being with anyone. Ivy has always just seen him as his best friend's younger brother but having to show themselves as a couple for eight weeks is definitely pushing their developing friendship as adults. Having only been with women, Ivy was unprepared for how Emory starts to make him feel as they act up for the cameras that are constantly on in the house and interviews they have to do for the show. Each man has their own pain from the past. Emory's regarding bad treatment from others in his relationships at highschool, causing him to swear off of them for several years. Ivy is a complete Scrooge because of so many negative events happening at Christmas, starting with his dad leaving the family when he was twelve. The two grow undeniably closer, having to act as a couple in love, with challenges for the show and the support that each gives to the other. I really liked that it's a Christmas story not too heavy on the angst level but has something that each character can move on from with support, and maybe love, from the other. I was worried that the brother was going to upset things but he surprised me with how open he was. The premise of the show that they take part in actually sounds a little bit dodgy with how it operates and the slightly slimy producer but if it can bring help to Ivy and his home/business, plus bring these two men together, who am I to complain! A Christmas story that soon turns into a heartwarming romance with a good amount of heat and chemistry between the two (and who doesn't like things happening against the wall!) Definitely a recommended read for the festive season. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
❤️A fantastic start to the book for a fake relationship story. Ivy 30 yrs and Trevor enters a competition with a chance to have his house remodelled and a heap of cash. The only catch was Ivy hated Christmas holiday, and would be in a fake relationship with a straight Trevor, what would go wrong lol. Trevor’s brother, Emory 23 yrs was back from collage and now Emery had the hots for Ivy. A fantastic story to read, I loved the chemistry happening between the two characters. They’re a bit different about the Christmas 🎄🎄🌲spirit which in turns sets up a challenge for Emory. Both characters had baggage that still interferes in their happiness presently. A gorgeous story for the Christmas magic to entwine both characters to find love.
I didn't read the plot of this book and that's completely my fault but I thought the book was about two best friends felling in love.
I felt at first that the chemistry between Ivy's best friend and Ivy was better. I didn't understand why they would fall in love so much in the end and what was so different in their relationship?
The whole book Ivy kept saying how bad his family life was, we know you don't need to repeat it all the time. It was so annoying and I couldn't stand it.
- Christmas Romance - Forced Proximity - Brother’s Best Friend - Grumpy/Sunshine - Fun Competition Show
This book made me so happy and I loved both characters, even with Ivyrson “Ivy” being a Scrooge. The premise with the show competition made this even better because those viewers were ruthless and really made the couple have to dig deep for those points. There are loads of sweet moments with the couple, Christmas magic, healing and family in this book.
Ivy has not been a fan of Christmas since his dad ruined it for him as a child/teen. Since then, he has avoided the holiday as much as possible, but he still bought the Christmas house he loved as a kid. The house is older and needs renovations, as well as an expansion to his attached auto shop. Ivy and his best friend Trevor decide to enter the competition and will pretend to be a couple in order to win the prize money. Unfortunately, right before the competition begins Trevor gets in an accident and won’t be able to help Ivy with the show. Emory has moved back home and is still trying to figure out what he wants to do for a career since he’s finished with his degree. He has had a crush on Ivy forever, but has never voiced his feelings since he thinks that Ivy is straight and he’s his big brother’s best friend. Emory doesn’t want Ivy to lose out on his chance to win the money to fix up his shop and his home, so offers to take his brother’s spot as Ivy’s boyfriend for the competition.
It's definitely not a hardship for Ivy and Emory to pretend to be boyfriends and it honestly isn’t pretend after the first day. It takes awhile for Ivy to get out of his own way, but he never once shied away from his attraction to Emory. The epilogue at the end showing them a year later was a great addition to see how their relationship is going and how they have progressed since the emotion heavy competition.

This book has some of my favorite tropes, so I was quick to pick it up. It does require a bit of suspension of disbelief in order for the plot to work. The whole reality show angle didn’t always work for me, especially with some of the changes and challenges the show put forth. But I really enjoyed the two MCs and watching them fall in love.
The chemistry between Ivy and Emory sparks from the start. Emory has a bit of a crush on his older brother’s best friend, and has for years, but I really got the feeling that it was minor and not the driving force behind Emory’s motivations. Ivy, for his part, privately acknowledges that he’s always found some guys attractive, even though he’s never acted on it. The way they slowly got to know each other better, and the way they fell in love, felt real and relatable. I enjoyed their romance very much.
3.5 stars rounded up because, hey, Christmas spirit!😏
I picked this book expecting some spice, but instead I got plenty of spice. 🤭🌶🌶🌶
It took a while to build the fire, but the whole setting and staging of the story is pretty much constructed for the sole sake of the two guys to (finally) set the bedroom on fire and spend some sizzling quality time in there. 🔥🔥🔥
The whole set-up for the plot with the reality show is, frankly, utterly ridiculous (at least to me), but the author has fun with it and so did I. 😆
The romance is so, so, soooo very sweet - it's almost too much! But it manages to stay on the right side of "adorable" and "cute" - and "sexy as heck" - in a way I found most pleasing. Even my cynical heart was melting over Ivy & Bell.
Great narrator and audiobook production too. Top-notch in every way. I know so many well known audiobook titels where the people responsible could have learned a lot from the team responsible for this audiobook. 👌✨
I' m going to be the Grinch here. Thus story would've been the perfect Christmas story but, the author kept droning on Ivy not being able to love or be in a loving relationship. For two hundred or more pages, we're consistently reminded of it. After ten chapters, I was going to call it quits but I pushed through to the end. I hope, the second book is better.
Defintely very wordy and could've used a bit of summarization imo. Also holy info dump at the start there. Getting both Ivy and Emory's backstories all in one go was a bit much.
Idk if it ever actually becomes a plot point, but Trevor acting weird about Ivy and Emory faking a relationship gave major "I'm in love with my best friend and I'm jealous that my brother gets to do it in my place"
I'm mainly dnf-ing because of the implication that Christmas magic is a thing. Ivy growing after they moved in was fine. Finding a quilt with Ivy's name was fine. I draw the line at generic coffee magically tasting better and a snow globe mimicking the actual house's lighting.
Reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews This starts with Ivy and his best friend, Trevor, going to be on a reality TV show where the winning prize is not only a giant cash prize at $500,000 but also a home remodel. Ivy really needs it because he has a lovely house that needs a ton of work. They have to pretend to be a couple but they are okay with that. Until Trevor is in an accident. Ivy is a grump but he is a good loyal friend and the show is the last thing on his mind. Until Emory, Trevor’s little brother, offers to step in. It’s like a story within a story because part of it is focused on the relationship developing between Ivy and Emory, and part is on the reality show where they are doing said development. I am not a fan of reality TV, but I liked the idea of this one. Silas’, the producer, response about the switch from Trevor to Emory: Seriously, it’s what I always thought happened on reality TV. Just as a side note, there is some commentary from Emory about the church people, and wow, Emory, you could be reading my mind. “And each and every one of those churches had some folks who needed a less on the reality of what would Jesus do? Judgmental, hateful, selfish, and downright mean, all in the name of the god they served.” Amen, Emory, Amen. Emory is not against anyone praying for his brother, “…I’d take thoughts, prayers, good vibes, whatever folks wanted to send his way.” But he definitely hit it right. “Would the church-going, god-fearing people of Peppermint Hollow pray just as hard for the gay boy as they would for his golden boy brother?” I wanted to hug this man, hard. I loved him right away. Ivy is grumpy, sure, but he has some history that explains it and makes him understandable. “I really do hate Christmas,” Ivy said, an edge to his voice. “So, like, best not to expect anything super holiday-ish from me.” So many things that happen in childhood affect you as an adult, and Ivy is no different. What I loved about this was how, little by little, Emory was chipping away at the grumpy. Forced proximity and fake boyfriends aside, Emory earned Ivy’s trust. And that was a Christmas miracle. I am a huge Christmas story fan and this was my first one of this year. It was a good one.
Ivyrson Lane (“Ivy”), the local auto mechanic in Peppermint Hollow, hates the holidays, but he needs money for repairs on the old home he just purchased and decides to take part in a holiday-themed reality game following 10 couples as they compete for viewer votes over eight weeks. The winner gets $500,000 and a complete home remodel which is exactly what he needs! He would also have enough left over to expand his garage and hire more mechanics. The rules said the couples will live in their own home, their daily activities and completion of the challenges being recorded for the show. His best friend Trevor Bell, who is also straight, agrees to do this with him for a share of the funds he would invest, so they need to fake a relationship.
Emory is Trevor’s younger brother and joined them for lunch at the café where he works. Emory was gay and had concerns that the two of them had never even touched a guy, so how would they be convincing? You can’t fake chemistry and an audience would be ruthless. Then one day, Emory got a call from Ivy that Trevor had been in an accident. Ivy told him he would meet Emory at the hospital and calmed his down with his calm and confident voice. At the hospital, Ivy hugged him close then they sat and he told him what he knew so far about the car accident. Emory’s parents arrived, then the doctor came out and repeated what Ivy had told them all. Trevor would move to his parents’ home for recovery – no stairs to climb. Then Trevor remembered he would be unable to partner with Ivy for the show! Without a pause, Emory stepped forward and offered to take his place with Ivy.
The two of them have known each other all their lives, but this was going to be learning about each other at a completely different level. Will they be able to fake this? Ivy doesn’t know that Emory has loved him for years. Will he respond realistically to that love? Will the audience be convinced it’s real? And will Ivy find himself falling for his best friend’s brother that is no longer pretend?
Ivy and Emory are such opposites in many ways - grumpy/sunshine, big and buff/small and nerdy, hates holidays/loves holidays ... and when it comes to relationships, well, neither man is great in that aspect either. Ivy had devastating events when he was young that has made him feel incapable of love and at the same time, afraid of loving and being left behind, and so he chose to never be in a relationship. Emory had a couple bad experiences when it came to dating that left him leery of dating, but now he's finished college, he wants to try again because he really wants to find love. Emory offers to help Ivy win a contest and figures he can keep his secret crush on his older brothers best friend for eight weeks while they pretend to be in a relationship, and it will be good practice for when he really does start dating again. Ivy agrees and they set out their game plan to win. What neither man expected was that their close proximity, fake relationship, and living together would bring about unexpectedly deep feelings, and for Ivy, a huge dose of confusion. The author did a great job portraying the inner struggles each man deals with and how the resolution comes about. The journey Ivy and Emory have is one neither expected, but it is undeniable that they connect on a deep level and find such a genuine love. The journey is helped along from unexpected sources - Emory's brother/Ivy's best friend, the audience in the game they're playing, and some Christmas magic. This book is really enjoyable, it will hook you from the prologue and keep you interested through to the sweet - and steamy - HEA.

This is a wonderful book that I really enjoyed. With the holiday season fast approaching, this book will help you get into the mood. This is the story of Ivy and Emory. Ivy is a 30 year old broody bad boy mechanic. Due to childhood incidents, he truly hates Christmas. He has just bought a massive old house that needs a lot of fixing up. He sees a contest to win 300K and have your house remodeled. This would allow him to expand his shop as well. Ivy is all in. But he thinks he needs to be in a relationship; so he gets his best friend Trevor to enter with him. One car accident later, Ivy thinks his chance to win is over. Up steps Emory. He is a huge Christmas fan. Emory is Trevor's younger brother. There are 7 years between them. He used to follow Trevor and Ivy around just like all little brothers. And he may have or still have a crush on Ivy. But that won't be a problem. He can be in a fake relationship with Ivy to help him win the contest. It will all be fine. He's sure of it. This is their story. This is a cute and fun story. Emory's upbeat and optimistic attitude goes up against Ivy's grumpy disposition each and every time. He is slowly wearing down Ivy's walls. Both men are prepared to do whatever they have to in order to win. It is win they start doing things for themselves and not the contest that you see the small cracks in their armor. This is a very well written book and is easy to read. I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed reading this Christmas story. It has a lot of tropes (best friend's brother, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, fake relationship) and I thought were all very well done – it didn't seem like too much. It was at times very sweet and also a little sad because Ivy (Ivyrson) has such bad holiday memories that he's sworn off love and Christmas.
I thought the reality show premise used in this story was unique. The reward for being the last couple standing was a house remodel as well as $500,000! I did think the show went a little too far by recording in the bedroom even though a filter was used. But this is fiction and the fantasy of viewers not really seeing what was happening yet being able to speculate was pretty titillating. 😊
For me this was a fairly low angst story with only one somewhat angsty scene for Emory and Ivy. There was a 7 year age-gap between Ivy and Emory and I like that the age difference wasn't beat to death (as in oh, we shouldn't be doing this) but just accepted.
I almost forgot to mention the magical aspect of this story. The gossip about town is that the house that Ivy bought has magical holiday properties. This does come into play a bit at times but I still consider this to be a contemporary story and not really paranormal one.
Once Upon a Christmas House is the first new Christmas story I've read this year and it got things off to a great start for me.

While I prefer darker reads filled with drama, angst, and complex issues, I was utterly enchanted by the characters, the story, and the author's masterful writing in this feel-good romance. This novel is an excellent pick for anyone who likes well-crafted, uplifting stories that are heartwarming and easy to read, leaving you with a cozy, contented feeling. Even if you're into drama and intense themes, you'll probably like it too. The story follows the lives of Ivy and Emory, two individuals who couldn't be more different, as they navigate the twists and turns of their relationship, from friend to lovers, amidst the backdrop of a reality show. Despite lacking heavy drama and complex issues, the author masterfully weaves excitement and suspense into the narrative, keeping readers hooked until the end. The vivid and witty descriptions of the characters, their doubts, misunderstandings, and flaws add depth and charm to the story. This friends-to-lovers, grumpy-to-sunshine, fake relationship romance is told in a humorous and dynamic way, capturing the reader's attention from the first page. The witty dialogues and monologues and the touch of Christmas magic create a lighthearted and entertaining atmosphere perfect for the holiday season. Look no further if you're looking for a heartwarming and enjoyable read. This story will leave you feeling uplifted and content, reminding you of the simple joys of life and the power of Christmas, love, and friendship.

If you’ve read the blurb, you know Emory and Ivy are competing in a Christmas show challenge to win $500,000 (a much heftier pot than in the real life ones I’ve seen) and a home remodel. Ivy had planned to enter as fake boyfriends with his best friend Trevor, but due to an accident, Emory volunteers to take his brother’s place. Emory has had a crush on Ivy for almost 10 years, so how bad can it be? It is fun to “watch” the two as they go from no real physical contact at all to very frequent PDA, from Ivy not ever kissing a man to convincing kisses for the camera and themselves, and learning about and doing all the little things couples do on a daily basis with the goal of winning the game. Over the 8 weeks of the show, lines begin to blur, feelings grow, hopes increase and fears and negative self-talk complicate the situation. As the stakes on the show increase, and the future of the relationship is in jeopardy, both characters need to face their fears and find the words needed to share with each other, and hopefully combine with a little Christmas magic. A very “Hallmark-y” tale that draws the reader in, investing in the developing relationship, and at times wanting to reach into the page and shake some sense into Ivy. A great holiday read from one of my favorite authors.

A great holiday read - just the type of book I love to read heading into the holiday season! Emory and Ivy are just adorable together - competing in a television reality show competition to fix up Ivy's home.
I really enjoyed how Emory and Ivy acted towards one another. It's a bi-awakening for Ivy but he never shies away from his feelings towards Emory, it's more his feelings of self worth and trust in himself. These two did not hold back in their actions towards one another - being protective, sweet, caring, and even progressing to physical. But while they were open in their actions, I wish they would have opened up and communicated their feelings much sooner. I was getting frustrated when we were nearing the end of the book and Ivy was still sitting on his feelings. Then it was a bit of a quick rush to the finish that gave me a tiny bit of whiplash. I would have really enjoyed watching those feelings come out sooner and in not such a rushed and unexplained manner. I would have loved a more defined journey to his opening up. That's my only critique of the book - but it does still make for a lovely holiday read!
4/5 stars.

Oh this was such a sweet story revolving around a best friends brother and a tv show for loved up couples to win a substantial amount of money by completing challenges for their viewers …
Ivyrson Gregory and Emery Bell have known each other since they were kids with a seven year age gap between them but now Emery will have to pretend to be his crushes boyfriend… to help Ivy remodel his house and auto shop…
But what happens when the lines get blurred?…
I loved their dynamic and how they slowly got to know each other on a much more deeper intimate level with the help of Ivy’s mysterious house filled with Christmas magic, the viewers and his best friend Trevor Bell.
“Kissing Emory was… Eye-opening.”
“A revelation. Maybe a mistake. Like really good.”
“I willed myself to stop thinking about how good he’d tasted. How much I wanted to kiss him again.”
This is a sweet Christmas love story about making good Christmas memories to eradicate the bad ones and about finding that special connection with your perfect person!

This book has several typical Christmas romance tropes but it works really well together.
A reality show competition, fake boyfriend, one-bed scenario, bi-awakening, best friend's brother are all there and it's highly enjoyable.
When Ivy's plans to win a remodel of his house and money for his shop seem to derail, his friend's brother is jumping in to the rescue. Emroy has a big crush on Ivy since childhood and while Ivy thinks he is straight, he also doesn't mind playin boyfriends to win the competion.
More and more is Ivy realising that there is also attraction on his side and I love how he embraces it. Their fake relationship is slowly developing into a real one and while they suddenly panic, they also realise there is chemistry and they are more miserable trying to avoid it.
The time together is also a catalyst for Ivy to come to terms with his hate of Christmas and with Emroy at his side is working through his demons.
The reality show part is hillarious.
It's definitely a story I will keep and re-read during the Christmas season.

I loved Ivy and Emory, the fake relationship trope is one of my favourites and these guys pulled this off so well.
This was a fun read while still managing to pull at the heart strings when Ivy and Emory were talking about their pasts, and especially Ivy who didn't think he was worth being loved by Emory.
I am not a reality show (or unreality show as I call them) watcher and reading about the way the show was run and the challenges the contestants were made/encouraged to do to win extra points reminded why I will never be an unreality show watcher. I would definitely never go on a show like this and thought the way that Ivy and Emory dealt with some of the challenges was well done, I also loved that they had each other's back and wouldn't back down about certain things even when pushed.
The friendship to lovers was nicely done and I really enjoyed watching these two men learn more about each other and themselves and let go of their pasts so they could move on to a new chapter with each other. This was a pretty low angst read which I prefer and left me feeling happy that these two got their HEA.
I enjoyed the magical aspect of the Christmas house and the way it worked its magic on Ivy who hated Christmas, the snowglobe was a fun touch and I enjoyed seeing the little changes that happened inside it that the guys couldn't explain away.
Ivyrson (Ivy) is a scrooge when it comes to the holidays but the chance of winning enough money to do up his house (known as the Christmas House) is a large enough incentive for him to take part in a holiday-themed reality game on TV, Emory has crushed on his older brother's best friend for years and the chance to help Ivy and he doesn't hesitate. Living together and pretending to be a couple means getting to know each other on a new level, the question is can they continue the viewing audience that their fake relationship deserves to win? Or will Ivy and Emory get swept up in the holiday magic and find themselves falling in love for real?
This was a sweet story with grumpy Ivy and cheery Emory and a conversion to a reason to love the holidays. I liked Emory and his constant optimism as well as his determination to introduce Ivy to Holiday decorations slowly over time. They were the perfect couple they just needed Ivy to work out his issues around their relationship and that Emory was his best friend's little brother. Easy to read, feel and understand. I loved the snow globe. This is an MM story with mature content.
✨ Am I a sucker for a grumpy/sunshine book set at Christmas time? Yes. Do I love fake relationships that turn into real relationships? Of course. Do I love a good brother's best friend?? Yes please. It's like this book was written for *me*
✨ Ivy and Emory were so fun to read. The show as the backdrop was perfect for them to get to know each other outside of "brother's best friend" and "best friend's little brother". I do like that even though Em had a crush on Ivy, it was an all-consuming crush that ruined him for other people, you know?
✨ The snow globe was so beautiful. That's all.
✨ "Once Upon a Christmas House" was the perfect read to kick of the holiday season.
✨ Pick up if you love: fake dating, reality shows with very little reality, a dash of Christmas magic, mistletoe EVERYWHERE, meddling brothers who just mean well, wearing the other's clothes, and two boys in love who bring extra cheer to the holidays
Christmas magic is in the air. I absolutely loved this sweet holiday story. Ivy entered a reality TV show competition with his best friend Trevor so he could hopefully win the prize money to expand his shop and fix up his house. But days before the cameras start to roll, Trevor got hurt. His little brother Emory volunteered to help Ivy out, and if he can grow a little closer to his long time crush by living with him for eight weeks, what's the worst that could happen. Emory is adorably sweet, you can't help falling in love with him. I loved his Christmas spirit. Ivy knows in his grumpy heart that he will never fall in love and the whole Christmas season is the worst. Can an eight week TV competition be enough time to thaw his frozen heart? There were so many magical moments throughout this story. I enjoyed the TV show competition aspects and the challenges each couple had to do were fun. A wonderful Christmas story that I will absolutely read again every winter.
When Ivyerson Greggory and Emory Bell, Ivy & Bell agree to fake a relationship for the chance to win $500,000 in a reality show they have no idea just what they’re letting themselves in for. Ivy is a grumpy Christmas hating supposedly straight guy and Em is a cute nerdy gay guy who’s totally into the whole Christmas Magic. Add in a mysterious Snow Globe that contains the a replica of the very house, known locally as The Christmas House, which Ivy has bought that seemingly alters as changes are made to the real house, mistletoe that keeps appearing despite Ivy’s best efforts at removing it and Trevor Emory’s older brother and Ivy’s best friend since kindergarten and you have the ingredients for a sweet and sexy tale. A. D. Ellis has written a convincing friends to lovers story that I could totally accept. I’ve always been a bit dubious of the friends to lovers trope which is ironic considering that my husband of eight years and my partner for twenty six started out as friends. This story was so well written that it is believable.
Emory has been in love with his older brother's best friend Ivy for a long time, so when he has the chance to play his fake boyfriend for a reality show, he jumps at the chance, even if Ivy is straight or is he?
I adored Emory and Ivy, they were so sweet! Yes, there were times when I wanted to slap Ivy, because he was set on the whole my dad messed me up so I can't have a relationship and whatnot, but he had his heart in the right place and he treated Emory the way he deserved to be treated. They were amazing for each other, and they were super hot together. I loved that we got to see them fall for each other as the reality show moved along and the magical element that the house provided.
Overall, it was a fantastic holiday story filled with love, hope, and Christmas magic! Definitely a must-read!
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
I recently had the honor of reading Once Upon a Christmas House, and it definitely got me in the holiday spirit.
Ivy and Emory are two characters who you will swoon over!! The story begins with Ivy and his friend Trevor signing up for a reality show to win a cash prize and hopefully complete a home remodelling. When plans go awry, Trevor’s brother, Emory, steps up in his place. Add in Emory having a long time crush on Ivy, and being forced to be together in close proximity, tension is bound to boil over.
Both characters have had many ups and downs in their lives, and just like in real life, some of those downs can become more apparent at Christmas. For Ivy, Christmas is a time he dislikes due to past traumatic experiences. When Emory, a Christmas lover, is thrown into the mix, Ivy’s icy heart at Christmas starts to warm, as does the relationship between the two.
I loved this story, and will definitely be rereading next holiday season.
I haven't read many of these Christmas romance books, but I've gone through a few. This is sort of the same. Will they? Won't they? You know what will happen, but when that dam bursts, hang on! Because the writing goes from cozy fireplace hot cocoa enjoyment to full-on graphic gay sex. Haha. It's a little jarring at first, but I guess this is what people like about these holiday romance books. They are cozy to read by the fire, but once you take a book to the bedroom, buckle up!
Not a bad premise for a story, but it gets more and more unrealistic as it goes on. Maybe it's an MTV reality show. Because when it suddenly ramps up to, "Let's film some intimate moments to gain more votes," it feels a bit nuts. Especially when one of the couples is supposed to be an older retiree couple. Not that they can't have sex, but I wouldn't think they would sign up for such a show. Anyhoo, enjoy your time in Peppermint Hollow with Ivy and (little) Bell.
