This is a well-written, entertaining, fast paced romantic suspense novel. It has likable and engaging characters, supportive family and friends, mystery, suspense, twists and turns, a heart warming romance, a retired K-9 dog, some great song lyrics, and a satisfying conclusion. I listened to the audio book, and the narrator, Mr. Roger Wayne, has a captivating voice and does an outstanding job voicing the characters.
I enjoyed this story, but for me, it got bogged down by the fake song lyrics. There's a successful rock band as part of the story, and for some reason, there were fake song lyrics written for a couple of songs. It's unnecessary as far as I am concerned. Just tell the story. Otherwise, I still enjoy Heather Graham's books.
I read this book purely because it was set in New Orleans, but the setting was pretty irrelevant. Otherwise this story was super repetitive. It starts by giving the background for the victim and his death; throughout, his death and past is brought up anytime he is. Also, it features “romance.” I.e. the two characters fake date and stay together (and have a couple of nights), but otherwise it’s irrelevant. It’s kind of like action movies, Twister (1996) comes to mind, where the characters have a background and then decide to kiss and get back together at the end.
"A Murderer Among Us" by Heather Graham was such a great read. I really enjoyed the mystery of trying to figure out who was behind the death of Sky's father. Several years ago, he passed, and they were trying to say it was a freak accident, but Sky knows deep down that something happened to him. His band, the Skyhawks, is getting together for a reunion tour, and Sky joins as lead singer to honor her late father. Also joining the band is FBI agent Chase. His grandfather is the drummer, but he is currently in the hospital. So Chase steps in because he too feels there is something funny going on. Sky and Chase have a past, but life took them in different directions. They now team up to figure out what is going on with the band. My favorite part is in the hospital room with Chase's grandfather, Hank. There is so much going on in this book, but Heather nails it completely. She kept me reading and enjoying every second of it.
Finally, Heather Graham is back. The last 3 books I read by her I gave 1 star. They were over 300 pages and about half history, as well as boring. This one was about 200 pages and no history. It was the type of mystery I remember from Graham from many years past. I enjoyed those books and I enjoy this one.
I like the idea honestly, i was pumped for this story, but if I hear “your dad if looking down from you from the clouds” one more time I think I may scream. Honestly it felt unfinished to me and a bit rushed. I feel like it’s missing huge chunks.
A forgettable but thankfully blissfully short book about FBI agent Chase McCoy going undercover as a drummer in the Skyhawk band's reunion in New Orleans in the French Quarter. Chase is investigating the death of Skyhawk's lead singer who died seven years earlier. Who killed him and why? Better question - does anyone care?! Pas moi.
I was hoping for a gripping thriller or a compelling narrative, but unfortunately, this book feels more like a lengthy public service announcement about the dangers of fentanyl-laced drugs.
A Murderer Among Us by Heather Graham is a very intriguing crime fiction read. It does have the romantic suspense genre to it as well. Inside, the readers are introduced to the fact that Skyhawk rock band lost a member. Sky knows it has been years since her father died in what was labeled as an accident but something just does not feel right. She is going to find did it while singing for her father's band. In fact, all the new members in the band are the children of the rockstars themselves. While the fathers watch as their kids play their tunes. Only another member of this group of child rockstars, is more than meets the eye. He's actually FBI and he's investigating drug related incidents that always happen around the rock band's area. But he knows Sky will get into major trouble if she continues her pursuit of answers.
I loved how there was the I know it was not an accident. There was more to the death than what it appears. But how, why, and who are the lingering questions that remain until both Sky and Chase look into the suspects together. Danger, suspense, and mystery on every page. I loved the romance that simmered between the protagonists. It was right there front and center and yet this on the edge where they either accept it or let is pass. Once again, Heather Graham proves she's still the queen of suspense and crime fiction. I love her books and reading this one readers will know why.
Set in New air leans, Chase and Sky are exes who find themselves both filling in their families band in hopes of solving a murder. Can they get beyond their own past and pretend to be united in both romance and the love of the band? The book starts slow where it was more about their issues beyond the band and the crime. A little more than half way does it pick up and deal with trying to resolve the crime. Character wise, I didn’t care for Chase or Sky. Chase treats Sky in a unfair way as if she was dumb or made of glass. Sky on the other hand expects to pick up where they left off and is hurt when she realizes Chase isn’t sure. It is an okay enough story, but not something that I will likely look back upon often.
Warning Chick Lit- very lite. There's a reason I stopped reading Harlequins eons ago, the stories are just ok, there is always a romance where the couple were together years ago and then there is a mystery and the coming back together. It's kind of a formula for these books.
Sky Ferguson, daughter of a rock star Jake from the band Skyhawk agrees to sing at a reunion concert to finally find out how her father died (she believes it was murder). Old boyfriend Chase, grandson of another member also agrees to step in for his grandfather. He is now an agent and also feels Sky's father was killed- they join forces, find the killer and get back together-predictable
This is the 1st part of a Double Book. A band reunion brings FBI Agent to go undercover to find information or the person responsible for the death of the Lead Singer that took place seven years prior. Characters are great, plot really engaging. The story uncovered the reason why the lead singer was killed, that it wasn't an accident like it was deemed seven years prior. Due Dillegence of a Daughter and the Agent, as well as their history together was able to uncover more than was bargained for.
Musicians figure large in this mystery. But why would Sky's father have been killed when he was everybody's friend? That's what Sky wants to find out, but FBI agent Chase McCoy is certain that Sky is now targeted if she continues to look into what happened to her father. And maybe even the entire band is at risk. Could any of them be the killer? Or the roadies who help the band at the venues where they play?
It takes a while before the clues begin to coalesce and not before others are hurt. Will Sky by next, or maybe even Chase?
I've read alot of her books....maybe that's why I was a tad let down. It took me 2 days to read in between life.... very...romance mixed with action. this time I could tell very well is written by woman lol I guess maybe that's why I didn't love this one. ...of all the books Graham has written ...this one was very...predictable and mushy. im biased of course lol and do* want to say it's not actually a terrible read at all.... suspense romance action to summarize. But I guess I just wanted MOre...lol meh
Second story Wyoming Mountain Investigation was really intriguing. I got hooked by the mystery of who was setting those fires and why, and I loved the complex history between the leads.
Skylar finds herself agreeing to join the band, but she's more interested in figuring out who in the band killed her dad.
Chase is the grandson of the drummer, who is also joining the band for the concert. He also thinks there's more to her dad's death. They have a history which ended abruptly when her dad died. Together, they work to figure out what happened in the past ... and what's happening now.
A decent book, with well written, wholesome characters. A romance, with a couple reuniting after several years apart, while they work together to honor the memory of the woman's father. At the same time, both wonder, was the father's death an accident, or worse?
A cute romp through an easily solved mystery where all works out right in the end. But not something that will go on my reread list.
The only good thing to say about this book is that it was very short.
A terrible plot (at least with decent characters), beyond unrealistic circumstances, bad action scenes, etc. Fentanyl-laced pot? Really? The only reason I finished was 200+ pages, although I almost stopped when Chase stopped at home to pick up the dog while trying to stop a plance from taking off.
I enjoyed the book but Chase is just a little too perfect for reality. The beginning confused me a bit but we ultimately learn the background relates to the main character’s grandparents. It’s a second chance romance so the romantic line is believable.
Quick read, fine but not one of my favorites. There were several places where names or situations got scrambled.... someone said they needed to be taken back to their room, but everyone was IN their room, things like that.
I keep wondering why the females in most of the stories I read are stupid, they have a man that loves them and they I love the man and yet they leave or want to for stupid reasons.
7 years after the death of her father and front man to Skyhawk Sky Ferguson doesn’t believe her fathers death was an accident and neither does FBI agent Chase McCoy. I are they putting each others life in danger by looking into it.
When I started this book I didn’t see how I’d like the book. But the more I read, the more I liked it. It gets better towards the middle of the book to the ending. Good book, once you get through the beginning.
Like other reviews, I’m not crazy about the lyrics… if I don’t have a set tune, it really takes me out. But my major critique is that Heather Graham seemed to mix up her characters in the epilogue.
All in all a decent read, good for passing the time and kept me engaged.
I really enjoyed this book. The story drew me in right away and kept me guessing. The pacing was perfect. I really liked the characters and couldn't wait to see how things turned out.
