Grab a brew and your choice of cake and drift away with Jeannie Wycherley to her magical fantasy world where the bad get their comeuppance and the good are usually quite, quite bonkers.
This is a fun fantasy and mystery in the Wonky Inn series, in the small, magical town of Whittlecombe in England. The Wonky Inn’s owner and manager, Alfhild agrees to host a regional apprentice competition for the witches’ council. She soon finds herself judging the apprentice candidates, while her friends and the numerous resident ghosts help with running Wonky Inn. A murder also has to be solved. This story has good world building, engaging characters, and lots of great British banter. I received an advance copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I hope this series never ends! Alf ends up being the perfect teacher to the apprentices. She never wants to do it again, but she was so good at bringing out the best in the most worthwhile of them. I was only slightly surprised at who the murderer was. The more I read, the more obvious it became. But that’s the way it’s supposed to work, right? But I did have my earlier suspicions. The reveal and overthrow of the murderer was absolutely amazing! I can’t wait for more books in this Wonky Inn series!!
Alf and the gang are back in another engaging Wonky Inn book. With the witch apprentice candidates' arrival at the Inn, and with Charity away on holiday, the last thing Alf needs is the murder of the Witch Apprentice Contest overseer, but that is exactly what Alf gets. With the unexpected task of overseeing the contest thrust upon her, Alf now has a murder to figure out. A very enjoyable cozy read.
Another great adventure for our Wonky Witch. I have read alll of these so far and can only admire Jeannie Wycherly for her brilliant stories - each one giving me a great enjoyment with her clever writing and imagination wihich holds the reader enthralled till the end - when of course it all sorts instelf out!! Thank you Jeannie
I quite like this series and this book wasn't a disappointment. Alf did not get into quite as much trouble as she has in past books and frankly it was relief. Overall this was a good addition to the series.
Ms. Wycherley's writing style is conversational and casual. Her likeable and interesting characters develop at a good rate and gain more depth as the series continues. Her fast paced, funny and intriguing story lines do a good job setting the foundations from which all her series are build with seamless blendings of the old with the new. There's plenty of intrigue and suspense with twists you just don't see coming sometimes. The original reviews can be found under the individual books or the series.
A Wonky Apprentice, #17 - The only bad thing about this series is waiting for the next book to be written and released. Like the previous books, this one is a get the large teapot since this story is a one sitter. Hard to put down with plenty of interesting characters, good story lines and humor. It's hard to keep from doing a book report since this series is so entertaining. Source: BookSprout. 4*

Wonderland Detective Agency series: Dead as a Dodo, #1 - I enjoy reading books by this author. There are characters from The Wonky Inn series. Better than a Cozy mystery. 4* The Rabbit Hole Murders, #2 - 4* Tweedledumb and Tweedledie, #3 - 5* The Curious Incident at the Pig and Pepper - 5* A Tragic Tea Party, #5 - 5* The Pool of Tears, #6 - 5* Wonderland Detective Agency series end.
Midnight Garden - What an intriguing story, which I would expect to find on the original Twilight Zone of the Sixties. A dark suspense story that is difficult to put down. Do not expect the same genre as the Wonky Inn Series, they are not as dark and do contain humor. 5*
In(n!) A Wonky Apprentice, the Whittle Inn is in more than its usual state of confused, somewhat chaotic activity, after Alf ends up organising, as well as hosting the competitors in, the Apprentice Witch of the Year contest.
A murder, a fixed competition, fascinating challengers and Charity's absence, all combine to create a hotchpotch of hilarity and a cauldron of companionship, with just a soupçon of danger added to the mix for our favourite Wonky Witch and friends.

Wonky witch Alf Daemonne has her hands full running the Whittle Inn. Especially with her assistant Charity gone on vacation. But when the leader of your coven asks you to do a favor, you don’t say no. It’s supposed to be an easy assignment, hosting the finalists for the South West Regional Apprentice Witch of the Year Competition. She’s even told the winner has already been selected. When the examiner goes missing and is found murdered, Alf finds herself agreeing to take on the position. Can she avert catastrophes at the hands of the awkward apprentices and catch a killer before they turn on her?
A very entertaining return to the wonky inn with Alf and her ghostly staff. The apprentices are a quirky bunch and the challenges going astray will make you laugh out loud. A truly dastardly villain gets a fitting comeuppance. The final contestants gain confidence and friendships. And the ending is sure to tug at your heartstrings.

Our heroine is called up to help with the competition, but as per usual a simple request turns deadly and suddenly it is not such a simple task after all.
This is book seventeen in the series. Each book is written as a standalone. It will have references to events past, but all the critical stuff is spelled out pretty quickly. But be aware that the series is highly addictive and you will soon want to read the rest of them.
Seventeen books and our heroine still hasn't caught a break. Oh well, that is what keeps it interesting. I love the Wonky Inn series and am always happy to have a new book. The story is, as usual, very well written and filled with fun and interesting characters. Oh, as well as the odd murder or two and a nice bit of mystery. Overall, this was another excellent adventure and I look forward to many more.
Highly recommended.

This is one of the series I have been reading from the start and, each time another one comes out, it feels like I’m coming home again! I love the chaos that breaks out whether the task seems simple or enormously complex. I associate this series with laughter and I never get tired of it.
Alf ends up hosting the finalists for the South West Regional Apprentice Witch of the Year Competition at Whittle Inn. But bringing in six apprentice witches together is certain to provide catastrophes. Their examiner Holly Hock is missing and later is discovered to have been murdered in a horrible bloody way. And it could be possible that one of the apprentices had something to do with her death. But which one? Can Alf find the killer before someone else is put in danger, most notably herself?
Alf is lamenting her most valuable assistant going on vacation to Australian when she gets a call from Wizard Shadowmender asking her to host the Witch Apprentice tests because the original place,Tintagel Castle, has no roof. So now she has 6 apprentices plus the examiner to keep tabs on. Everyone finally makes it to the hotel a few weeks later but the examiner needs her car checked. That is the last anyone sees of her. Now Alf feels it's up to her to find her and hope she is alive. As usual, as the poet said, the best laid plans often go awry. Only Alf didn't have a plan. She just follows her instinct??? Another fantastic story in this great series!!.

When Tintagel Castle is ruled out as a venue for hosting the south west regional final apprentice witch competition , Wizard Shadowmender persuades Alfhilde Daemonne to hold it at The Whittle Inn. All she needs to do is feed and house the six judges .There’s a showdown looming but what’s this mean. Alf has had to step in after the original instructor was found dead. Chaos ensues of course. Brilliant work, superb narrative and descriptive.

Wizard Shadowmender asks Alfhildto host a final of the Apprentice Witch of the Year at Whittle Inn. With pressure coming from her grandmother as well, Alf agrees - but of course nothing ever runs smoothly for her! Who killed Holly? And who will win the competition? I love the characters in this story - and the story lines - Jeannie is an amazing author - and I cannot wait to read more of her work!.

Just a wee bit like making stew, start with stock, add some meat, vegetables, herbs and spices; in the Whittle Inn, the ingredients are mixed up. Instead of stock, use witches, instead of meat, ghosts, for vegetables, try familiars, and so on. So things don't ALWAYS go according to plan, and bringing in six apprentice witches for a competition may be just enough to drive Alfhild (the proprietor) crazy. Then again, she might have been crazy to agree....
with Charity off to an extended holiday in Australia, Alf might just discover a bit of a talent as a mentor- if she and the wonky inn can survive the ministrations of several wannabe interns, and sny chaos related to those challenges
Alf could make little differences, one person at a time
Mr Hoo will probably have a lot to ssy about all that
fabulous familiars and crazy inn management, alongside much additional wonkiness
I love this series of books and the interesting wonky characters in this light paranormal but relatable and definitely enjoyable books. She spins a fun yarn bring it to life in words. Such fun and entertaining plots and unique people keep me coming back for every new episode. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book had me cackling and snickering with every chapter! I love how much Alf tries to be normal but fails. I see myself in her and everything that she does. I enjoyed reading about each of the apprentices and their strengths. Jeannie Wycherley writes with such a humorous tone that I eagerly await her next book. I loved reading this book!
Knowing how the Wonky Inn is and how Charity keeps things running smoothly or as smoothly as they an be lol the apprentices have a job on their hands as does Alf! A great read with some good laughs as well as a bit of danger and ever a dull moment/.

This is a wonderful series. This book has all the familiar characters although Charity leaves on a holiday to Australia early on. There of course is a mystery murder to solve and many funny happenings. I always have a smile on my face after reading these books.

This was a fun book to read. I wish I had started with book 1. I think I would have understood more if I had had more of the background information. Nonetheless, the story was enjoyable and I had a good time reading it. That's what matters right! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
Heartwarming and laugh out loud fun adventure filled with engaging charters, intriguing story line, witty banter, heart racing twists and undeniable passion. Really enjoyed this emotional and exciting journey!
