Denne historien er GOATa, en av mine all-time favourites, om ikke nummer 1. Når det er sagt så er starten ganske treig, og selv om jeg synes pacingen var mye bedre i mangaen enn i animeen, så er det fortsatt den delen av historien jeg liker minst. Til tross for hvor godt jeg kjenner denne historien var den allikevel verdt å lese i mangaformat, så jeg er glad for at jeg gjorde det.

I accidentally committed myself into reading this forty-five (45) volume manga series about precious & precocious high school boys who emotionally connect with one another through the bond that is volleyball and hope to return the glory of their once-great club and you’re laughing???

Finally got a copy of this!!! Having loved and rewatched the anime a million times, I'm finally starting on the manga. It's such a fun, dynamic sports manga and I already love these characters. I'm excited to see more of the full story.

Finally! It’s a title I have been wanting to review but have been backlogged due to other priorities. Haruichi Furudate’s Haikyu!! Is one of the most recommended Shonen manga for new readers, and one of the most popular sports titles on the market, inspiring many to take up Volleyball, tributes to the teams in real-life matches, an anime consisting of four seasons, four films, five OVAs, video games, etc. It has also won the 61st annual Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shonen category. Aside from all of this, be sure to sit back and enjoy my first dive into the world of Haikyu!!

Something Shoyo Hinata aims to show the world as he chases after the dream of becoming the best Volleyball player in the world, after witnessing the legendary player known as “the Little Giant” compete at the national volleyball finals. After playing his first and last match against the King of the Court, Tobio Kageyama, Hinata swears to become Kageyama’s rival after graduating from middle school. But the guy he wants to defeat ends up becoming his teammate at Karasuno High School! The two will have to prove themselves capable of playing together if they want to have a future playing volleyball.
The dream of our protagonist is something very relatable, especially those who are in sports. Hinata’s loss against Kageyama fueled his resolve to defeat and avenge his loss against his newfound rival, the story gained depth as it started to get deeper into the first volume, discovering that he’ll be Kageyama’s teammate at Karasuno High School. It added an extra twist to the story, as the two former rivals have to learn how to cooperate and harness their combined skills.
The first three volumes do a great job of establishing the main characters, showing what motivates them, and what makes them stand out from each other. Hinata’s energetic personality and Kageyama’s precision and rigid attitude offer a different dynamic. It does, however, rely on some familiar sports tropes, but it offers unique moments and heartfelt moments to the story.
Aside from the story, the artwork is one of the manga’s strongest parts in portraying how intense sports can be (especially Volleyball, a team sport in two teams of six using not only their physical abilities but also their intellect and devise a strategy that helps them score points by grounding the ball on the other team’s court.) Furudate captures the intensity and how fast-paced Volleyball can be in his layouts and panels. A great eye for detail was put into each character’s designs mixes well with how expressive and distinctive they are. Finally, the Volleyball scenes are illustrated well, especially when depicting the sport.

I am loving this series so far. I especially love characters like Hinata and Nishinoya because they struggle at times with height (Hinata more that Nishinoya, but still). As a high school soccer goalkeeper who is shorter (barely) than even Hinata, I relate to him a lot. At least I'm a half inch taller than Nishinoya -- a fact that had me laughing with excitement when he came in and we learn he's only 5'3. Poor guy.
Only thing I have against this manga content wise is that vol. 2 had a very consistent use of d*mmit. Throughout this 3-in-1 Edition, the words d*mmit, cr*p, and p*ssed are used, but nothing stronger than that. Also, Tanaka flips people off two or three times in the span of these first three volumes. Regardless, Tanaka is still one of my favorite characters; he makes the best faces, despite people having to remind him not to. And he's just so crazy and funny and so ready to help Hinata, I can't help but like him. The way he tries to intimidate people--and succeeds--is genuinely hilarious to me.
So, to sum it up: I relate to the shorties, they curse a bit much at times, and Hinata and Tanaka are my current favorites. Though I am also liking Asahi so far (gentle giant for sure, gotta love 'im). Oh, and Nishinoya. These characters are so likeable, okay?!

Excellent series about young players of volleyball in a high school team. There is a brief section set in middle school where a highly an antagonistic relationship develops between a brilliantly skilled player who is too bossy and an enthusiastic player with very little experience but a ton of heart and persistence. When they go to high school, they must learn to work together to join the volleyball team. That's when they start developing strategies that make great use of their strengths, and find ways to develop game and social skills to enhance the whole developing team.
The book is extremely instructive about the finer points of volleyball which maintaining an engaging narrative and developing a growing cast of characters. There is a very nice balancing act between the various elements, and despite the growing cast everyone feels like their own person, with different personalities, skills, maturity, and so on.
Being about an extremely quick moving sport which very much occurs in 3D, I was impressed at how clear the action was drawn. 4/5 Stars.

Wow. I am embarrassed that it took me this long to read this manga. It was so good! Being that "Haikyu!! (3-in-1 Edition)" has three volumes in it I was able to get a good feel for it. I love the teammates, the banter, the lessons/themes, and even the sport! You know it's a good sports manga when it has you wanting to research that subject. I absolutely have nothing bad to say about it. I will definitely be watching this anime soon.

Haikyu! has been on my radar for a few years but I hadn't gotten the chance to really read it until now and I'm so glad I did! The 3-in-1 aspect really helped me sink into the story and it's just fun. Plenty of silliness, banter, team shenanigans--it's everything we love about sports stories and manga. Really excellent!

I started reading this because I only watched a little bit of the anime and thought it was fun. Some of the scenes are hilarious. And I love Hinata’s and Tanaka’s relationship.
I love all of the players’ personalities. I love that Hinata hides behind someone taller than him like for protection if he feels intimidated or wants to say a remark. I still love Hinata’s and Tanaka’s friendship. I love how Hinata backs him up in remarks all the time.

Before people absolutely destroy me, I'm only on chapter 4. The story so far is great, but it isn't what I have heard it can be, yet. This is kind of a place holder for me, and I know it will get better. But the story does sound a bit basic, and not every story needs to have an impossible goal, but I find it a bit slow.
I'll update the review again after I've finished chapter 4 or volume 1. I'm probably the first two-star review yet.

As a sports fan I found Hinatas yearning to be better while having doubts and needing reassurances something that resonated with me and my experience as a kid. The cast of teammates is great also, everyone has a difference personality and the banter and egging is what would happen with any type of team sport.

I see why this series is so beloved. I'm not for volleyball, but the characters are so well done and the points of the game well explained that it kept me entertained. Hinata is adorable!
