Olivia had a plan: MBA, Wall Street VP by thirty-two, marriage and two children (preferably twins because #efficiency).
Not in her plan? Losing half her belongings in an apartment flood and being forced to turn to her ex for help.
Definitely not in her plan? Moving into said ex’s house and watching him walk around shirtless, bake her cupcakes, and look at her with those smoldering—
Wait, what was she talking about again?
***
Between his bakery and meddling family, Sammy had enough on his plate without bringing the ex he’d never been able to forget into the mix.
But when Olivia asks for his help, he couldn’t say no. He could, however, make her regret breaking his heart—as long as he doesn’t do anything foolish, like sneak into her room and kiss her senseless…
As passion slowly replaces their dislike for each other, Sammy and Olivia discover their past isn’t what it seems and their future is anything but certain. Can they overcome their pride and give love a second chance, or is history doomed to repeat itself?
If We Were Perfect is a steamy second chance/roommate romance. It's book four of the If Love series but can be read as a complete standalone.
Recommended for 18+ due to explicit content and adult language.
"You didn't ruin my life. You ruined me for other women."
If We Were Perfect is LIVE!! 🎉 Sammy and Olivia's story is finally here, and I can't for you guys to read it!
✔️ Roommates ✔️ Second chance romance ✔️ Asian MCs ✔️ Steam, sass, and all the feels 🔥
This is the fourth and final book in the If Love series. It's been a wild ride, and I'm a little sad to say goodbye to the Shanghai crew, but I have loved every single minute and want to thank everyone who's been (or will go on 😉) the group's adventures with me.
um I think this is her spiciest book yet and i adored every second. what a perfect way to close the If Love Series <3

3.5-3.75 stars. This was definitely the best book in the series. I really enjoyed Olivia and Sammy's story. RTC. The plot If we were perfect follows Olivia and Sammy who are ex-partners that used to be in a loving relationship but now can't stand each other. Olivia's house floods and she ends up calling Sammy her help. He offers for her to live with him in his house and she has nowhere to go so she accepts his offer. Of course this means that they are in close proximity which leads to tension building between them. At the same time Olivia and Sammy are pursuing their careers (Olivia is a lawyer I'm pretty sure and Sammy is the owner of a successful bakery) which I liked because it shows that they are both ambitious people. They start to have feelings for each other all over again but will outside forces end their newly restarted relationship before it's really begun? My thoughts This was my favorite book in the series. The writing was significantly better than the writing in books 1 and 2 and this was a really cute and sweet story. The setup for the third act break was so ridiculous though. Olivia's boss wanted her to break up with Sammy because there was a cockroach on his food at the bakery 😂😭. She refuses to do this and tells Sammy about the situation so he emails her boss on her account and says that they have broken up, and this leads to their actual breakup. It's later revealed that Sammy's jealous cousin who he does not get along with hired someone to put the cockroach in his food, which I couldn't take seriously. Anyway I still quite enjoyed this despite those things.
What you can expect to find in If We Were Perfect: -laid back mmc x perfectionist fmc -second chance - they broke up in college -oops we're roomies -sick/comfort -funny -🌶🌶🌶
Sammy Sammy Sammy - I loved Sammy from the first book in the series. He was so cute and so obviously in love with Olivia. But what happened to them - why did they break up once they got back to the states after studying abroad in Shanghai for a year? And why are they so cool towards one another.
Another second chance romance by Ana Huang that I binged! I loved the dynamic between Sammy and Olivia. Yes, they broke up but clearly both have some pretty strong feelings about one another. When Olivia ends up rooming with Sammy their true feelings start resurfacing. But the old hurts are still there and both need to find a way to get past that if they want to make their relationship work.
I really enjoyed If We Were Perfect. Sammy was such a cute boyfriend - gah he was so adorable. And his mom was making me L O L - ha! I do feel like the ending of the book had A LOT going on, but overall I still really enjoyed it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher.
Sammy and Olivia have a long and complicated history. Their relationship was hinted at in the first three books, so I was excited to read their story in this final book in the series. I wanted to learn what led to their break-up after their semester abroad and why they never reconnected. If We Were Perfect follows their story as they reconnect and revisit what happened all those years ago.
Their romance between Olivia and Sammy is steamy, passionate, loving, and filled with obstacles. Meddling families, personal aspirations, and miscommunication, as well as a bit of stubborn pride, get in the way of their happily-ever-after. On top of that, they are both ambitious, hard-working, and driven people who demand a lot of themselves. However, even though they have a complex past and many things to work out, they fit so well together, and their connection is undeniable. I love their chemistry, and their steamy scenes were swoon-worthy fantasticness!
I also like the author’s exploration of friendship throughout this series. Olivia and Sammy have an amazing network of friends who are more like family. I enjoyed this wonderful group of friends and their undying support of each other. With the pressures put on them by family, Olivia and Sammy find a safe haven with Farrah, Blake, Kris, and the other wonderful people in their core group. This unbreakable circle of friends shows just how important it is to have people on your side who support and love you unconditionally.
Numerous family members infringe upon Olivia and Sammy’s relationship, and though she had a minor role in the story, I adored Sammy’s mother! She is absolutely hysterical. Vivacious, demanding, funny, and pushy, she reminded me of my own mother. It’s obvious how much she loves her son, even though she is a bit meddlesome and overbearing, and she is a wonderful addition to the story.
Workplace harassment, sexual harassment, infidelity, family conflict, and other topics are explored throughout the novel and add depth to a charming and passionate love story. I like that Huang introduced relatable and relevant issues, and I love her messages of female empowerment!
If We Were Perfect is a fantastic ending to the If Love quartet and is as immersive as the first three books in the series. The characters and story are realistic, the romance is steamy and sweet, and the plot is intriguing. I can’t recommend this New Adult series enough and heartily thank Ana Huang for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
This was great 👍 Very emotional, frustrating, and a little heartbreaking at times! But it was also sweet, romantic, and a little spicy 👌 I enjoyed this series, I had quite low expectations going in - after reading a lot of bad reviews 😅 but it was surprisingly good 👏
Again, Ana keeps me glued. I liked this one best though, Liv and Sam were always my fave and it felt good to understand the reason behind their breakup. I like the way Liv found herself and yes it's a cliché love story but unique in its own rights.
This was definitely the best book in the series. I loved sammy‘s and olivia‘s story and the epiloge was so cute. I might have cried while reading it. I like the twisted and king of sin series more but still a good series.
“Sammy was certain that if he were ever to go blind, he would still find his way back to her. He didn’t need to see her to know where she was; she was his north star, his guiding light.”
And that concludes the if love series. I loved the ending. I got to see who everyone ended up with and their babies. I loved that part. So now to hear about Olivia and Sammy. I have been so excited about this one because we’ve known how much they dislike each other but now we get to find out why and how that changed!!! Olivia was on a bad date, her date turned out to be a stripper who wanted to show her his moves. She was only roughing out the date for desert. When she spotted Sammy and his girlfriend Jessica. Olivia has always been jealous of Jessica because she is super model pretty and has always been so nice to her. She wonders why Jessica is so nice to her. Often times she finds herself wondering if things could have been different between her and Sammy if she didn’t let her mother get in the way which has us wondering what this means. Olivia says she needs to leave that there’s an emergency at her apartment and jessica says if she needs anything to call Sammy. Olivia spoke emergency into existence because when she got to her apartment it was flooded. The only person she knew in San Francisco is Sammy. So she caved and called him for help. When he got there she lashed out a little because she doesn’t like asking for help but he demanded. Instead of letting her get a hotel room he told her to stay at his house for the night. We also know after Olivia left the bar jessica asks Sammy if she still thinks they’re together and we begin to get vibes that jessica is gay and Sammy used her to make Olivia jealous all these years. Sammy has a flashback to Edison and Olivia kissing her right him and Olivia broke up in New York so then we’re like hold the phone you kissed his cousin within a few hours whattttt. When Olivia meets with her landlord he offers her $500 for her costs and says it’ll take 7 weeks to fix the damage. Sammy offers for her to continue to stay with him. Olivia couldn’t shake the thought of being prey trapped in a house with her hunter. Which she wonder if that’s true because Sammy makes a comment about taking his dubious side. So then we worry for liv. Olivia and Sammy kinda side step around each other. She doesn’t eat meals with him, they don’t talk all that much. They aren’t sure how to take this living together. Sammy’s mother came over while okivia was in the shower and she waited outside the door to see who the girl was but she frightened okivia into dropping her towel and Sammy’s mother told her how nice her boobs are. I LOLED. Sammy’s mom has been playing matchmaker because she’s ready for babies. Even after seeing Olivia’s boobs she invited Sammy’s ex Lucy to their family dinner to reconnect. But Sammy only has connections for one ex. Sammy makes a comment about Olivia’s type being Ivy League take home to mom guys. And we start to realize Olivia’s mom had a big influence in their break up.. Sammy took Olivia to meet his high school friends at a 4th of July party and they got caught up in each other and almost kissed until the dog intervened. Olivia joined an erotica book club and got trashed on margaritas. She came home and confessed to Sammy about how sorry she was for not believing in him. We had heard snip bits that Olivia hadn’t been supportive of him opening the bakery. Now Sammy has many bakeries across the US and crumble and bake is extremely successful. It’s almost been a slap in her face that she didn’t support him all along. She wakes up puking and Sammy called her off sick. She ends up sick for days, she actually had a flu bug not just alcohol sick. Sammy cared for her while she was sick and puking and pooping. In her fevered state she said all sorts of dillusional things. Olivia dreams of their New York fight and we get to hear about it all. Sammy confessed to wanting to quit nasa and start a bakery and she was concerned about him not having something to fall back on if it didn’t work out. When she told her mother about what Sammy had done her mother disapproved and Olivia let it get into her head. Sammy lashed out and said some awful things to her about how she’d do anything for her mothers acceptance thinking it’s love and that’s when it was over. Olivia realizes she still has all the feelings for Sammy that after 8 almost 9 years they still haven’t went away. After okivia started to feel better they had their first kiss after all this time. And then Sammy’s mom rang the doorbell and broke them up. Edison had gotten the partner position at his firm and at the last family Sunday dinner had announced he would pay for everyone to go to Lake Tahoe. Sammy’s mother put him down for a plus one and volunteered Olivia to be his plus one. Sammy took Olivia touring San Francisco after she told him she hadn’t enjoyed the town. They ended up kissing then too. While at Lake Tahoe Edison makes a comment about hooking up with Olivia, it pissed Sammy off and Olivia went to talk to him. Sammy confessed watching her kiss Edison and that he had come back to appologize to her and work things out but she was already locking lips with his cousin. Olivia claims she called Edison to ask for advice and instead he threw himself at her. Sammy told her to prove that he was what she wanted so she passionately kissed him and told him to fuck her anywhere. After throwing her on the bed and blind folding her and fucking her and making her cum he told her she’d regret saying anywhere and he began to lube her asshole. She confessed no one else had ever done anal to her which made Sammy happy. She said just to take it slow so he only inserted 2 fingers this time around. And then he finished in her mouth. Sammy tells her he thinks that sometimes love isn’t about love it’s about timing and that he’s ready to try round 2 with her. Olivia meets up with her mom and sister Alina and her fiancé Richard. After they upset her and she goes to the bathroom Richard follows her and propositions her to meet him in his hotel room thwt night. She is disgusted but has no idea what to do. She knows her sister and mother won’t believe her over him. But she feels guilty not to tell her sister. She talks it over with Sammy and he convinces her it is best to tell Alina and get it off her chest. Olivia finally makes a bond with the only other girl at her work in San Francisco, Cassidy. Cassidy has never talked to her but she discovers she just has social anxiety. Sammy had had a visitor at his bakery yelling at him for secting this guys girlfriend. Sammy knew that girls sent him things like that all the time but he never opened or responded to them. He hated the drama that being successful carried. Penny his digital associate reached out to him and told him to check twitter. Someone posted a picture of one of his cupcakes with a roach inside of it. And it was going viral. So we insta fly are like it’s that dude that was pissed about his girlfriend but that doesn’t change the fact that Sammy is having to fight this. He has to figure out if someone set him up or if his hygiene really wasn’t kept up to standards. Sammy dove into trying to deal with the roach business and figure out how to come out on top when Olivia showed up at work and took his mind off of it and then asked if he wanted to leave and go out for the day. They had a great day together and Sammy realized how much he truly loves Olivia. Olivia is given an opportunity to go to a dinner with her boss Michael for one of their clients Ty Winstock. Winstock asks for her opinion and she is a bit sassy but straight forward. Olivia’s pitch at dinner had been what won Winstock over so her company was very happy with her bringing in such a big client. Olivia is out celebrating with her erotica club and Tamara mentions that her girlfriend is showing up and I’m instantly like it’s gonna be jessica. And it’s not only Jessica but she brings Tu Winstock who is the reason that Olivia is celebrating. Jessica tells Olivia she has been gay since she was 15 and Sammy had used her as a cover up. Olivia is pissed at first but calms down. Olivia is called into her boss michaels office. Someone brought to her attention pictures of her and Sammy out at the park. It has gone viral on twitter and she has been recognized in some of the photos. He believes it would look bad on the company for her to stay with Sammy due to the public view and that she has until the end of the summer before she returns to college to make her decision. He told her after securing Winstock she is prized and he could see her rising quickly which is all of her professional dreams she has wanted but she would have to leave Sammy. Which is ridiculous. She feels bad she is this torn between Sammy and her career but she loves both things and wants to think it through. Sammy begs her to confide in him and when she does he tells her he doesn’t want her to throw away her dreams for him. She tells him she could go somewhere else and start over that there are other dreams. At the end of the summer Michael calls Olivia into his office to congratulate her on choosing the firm but she had chosen Sammy. Sammy sent an email off of her lap top saying she chose the job. She was infuriated he made that decision for her she was going to choose him. He told her he couldn’t let her put her job at risk. She tells him she could always find another job but she couldn’t find another us. Insert sobs. Olivia ran out and when Sammy woke up she had taken all of her things and moved out. Sammy’s PI finds out Edison hired that man to make a cupcake and put a roach in it. He had told the man Sammy was fucking around with his gf to get him angry and then offered the deal so the guy was more willing. Edison did it out of jealousy. He believes since he’s partner in a law firm that he is all that but everyone is proud of Sammy and his bakery and it pissed him off so he wanted to tear it down. Sammy got all of that on video and took Edison down. Alina called Olivia to tell her she found out Richard was cheating on her with her cousin and maid of honor kayla. Olivia told her she had to leave him and Alina said she would never find a man with all of richards qualities and they were all things to do with his status and money not his personality. Olivia told her about Richard propositioning her and her sister accused her of trying to sabotage the wedding. And said some really mean things to her. Olivia resigned from Alina’s wedding if she was going to go ahead with it. Eleanore showed up to Olivia’s and demanded that she tell Alina she was lying and to put the wedding back on with Richard. Olivia tells her she wasn’t lying and she’ll do no such thing. She realizes Eleanor doesn’t love either one of them. She tells her it’s not about love it’s about survival and even tells Olivia she should have aborted her. Like what a bitch. In order for Sammy to not press charges. Bobby admitted to being paid by Edison to make the cupcake with the roach in it. Edison got fired and shunned by his family. Sammy changed his flight so he wouldn’t be on the same plane as Olivia for Nate and Kris wedding. But he needs to talk to her so he takes her somewhere private. They both admit to loving each other but she tells him that she needs time. Sammy gets upset and doesn’t understand they love each other and just shared a kiss why doesn’t she trust him with her problems. Nate and Kris caught them and thought They were hooking up but in reality they were discussing not getting back together. Sammy realized what an idiot he is and apologized to Olivia and told her to take all the time she needed. Olivia and Alina meet up at their dead fathers headstone. Alina had hired a Pai to find her father so he could attend her wedding if he wanted but by the time her Pi found him he died in w car crash. Alina asked Olivia to go with her to his headstone and they bonded and talked. Olivia realized Alina never got her bachelorette party so they drove to Vegas. Sammy took Olivia’s advice and hired a ceo, Jude to help him with all the paperwork. Olivia showed up to the shop in Vegas apparel. She said Alina had dared her too. Sammy tells Olivia that he wants her. She tells him that her job agreed to keep her under her terms. She had threatened to leave and if she left Ty was going with her who was their biggest client. So they agreed she could date whoever she wanted and it was none of their business so her and Sammy could be together. It flashes forward to like 4 years later and says they eloped 2 years ago at Lake Tahoe. And had a small reception for their friends and family after. Alina shows up at Olivia’s work because she wants to go to the babies ultrasound later that day. Olivia hasn’t told anyone at work about it yet because she’s worried about losing her position. She’s now direction at Pine Hill, one step above Vice President which had been her original goal. Olivia was asked to meet Michael and there was a surprise party she asked how they knew she was pregnant and they didn’t they were throwing her a belated birthday party and she dropped the bomb. Her boss Michael told her her job would be waiting for her and to take all the perks the company offered. At the ultrasound appointment Olivia found out she was having twins which had always been her plan. She wanted 2 kids and thought it was most efficient to have them both at the same time instead of 2 separate 9 month pregnancies. Olivia and Sammy had a boy and a girl, aiden and lily. Farrah and Blake had a boy Everett. Kris and Nate had a girl Ruby. Michael retired and Olivia got his position as managing director. Courtney ends up with Justin who was Blake’s bartending friend. Jessica and Tamara got married. Ty and Kat have been together and we are suspecting an engagement soon. Olivia was hosting her 3rd annual pre Christmas party where they tried to get everyone together but this was the first year everyone was able to make it including her sister Alina who she has formed a sisterly bond with ever since they both stepped away from their mother. Olivia had called her mother out of courtesy when the twins were born and she thanked her for the news and hung up. Like seriously you’re a grandma now what a bitch. Sammy had gotten his hands on the dumpling recipe that had been a big joke throughout his and Olivia’s recipe and he finally admits how he got it. He agreed to name their daughter after the owner whose name is lily. Olivia had no idea they named their daughter the same name as the owner of her favorite dumpling shop. I laughed so hard over this. I truly loved their love story. I think it was neat getting to wrap it all up. See where everyone ended up at the end. How all the loose ends tied together. I really loved this book because of all the closure that it gave and also because Olivia and Sammy are so cute together although they wanted to find every reason to push against each other it seemed. I’m glad they’re finally working together instead of against each other. Little sad for these series to officially be over but they were well enjoyed!

I love this book okay so If Love Had a Price and this book were the saving grace of the series! I know it was Ana's first series so I tried to lower my expectations by a lot. Anyways I love how sweet this book was how cute the setting was also. I love how there wasn't really third act of breakup but there was a break, but not big enough. So if you don't like 3rd act then don't worry there isn't really. This was unlike any Ana Huang book I've read before (and I loved it). It was a fresh take from the usual Billionaire/Morally Grey characters I've read by Ana before & I devoured it in a day.
If We Were Perfect is the fourth instalment in the "If Love" series, it's an engaging exploration of love, personal growth, and redemption. A perfect heart-warming second-chance romance novel.
The story follows Jace and Farrah, two exes thrust back together after an unfortunate situation. As they reunite after years of separation, unresolved feelings and secrets from their past emerge as the two attempt a fresh start to their 'friendship'. Friendship swiftly evolves to romance when the pair rehash old flames. The character development in this book is second to none, crafting multi-dimensional personalities that draws readers into Huang's world.
This hit all the right marks for me, I honestly wouldn't change a thing about it. No book is perfect, but this was just what I wanted to read when I picked it up.
Tropes include
-Second Chance -Roommates -🌶️ -Aspirational FMC -Supportive MMC -Will make you blush
I enjoyed this book it just wasn't anything special. I feel like I'll end up forgetting I read it. I wish Courtney would've gotten a book in the series. It all just seems like right person wrong time and I don't know if that's for me. 3 1/2 ⭐'s
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for the advanced readers edition in exchange for an honest review!
“I realized you didn’t ruin my life. You ruined me for other women” 🫠🫶🏽
You could stick any Ana huang book infront of me and I’ll read it, her books are so fun to read and I eat them up every time!!!! This book especially was so cute, mind you I’m not a big fan of the second chance romance trope but Ana executed it perfectly here! The banter, angst, and pining seen between Olivia and Sammy alone was worth this rating🙌🏽. I think they both definitely made mistakes in their relationship, but coming to terms with their faults and learning from them to become better people than they were before, not just for themselves but for eachother, was what really had me tearing up🥹❤️. They both suffered in their own way and deserved to be happy and loved wholly and unconditionally and that’s what I saw here. Overall this book was AMAZING, and I definitely recommend it🫶🏽
This was the worst book in the series. It felt a bit random with all the new characters being introduced and not really playing any part in the plot. Olivia as a character really annoyed me and I just didn’t like her. Sammy was a bit ‘meh’ to me, but also had some red flags for example his very violent thoughts and behaviour when he got angry. Also the smutty scenes in the book was uncomfortable for me to read. I also think the book in general was badly written. I think it would’ve been much better if they had gotten rid of all the smutty scenes and made it into a YA romance series - I could see my 13 year old cousin reading that.
A shame when this book was the one I looked the most forward to, as I was curious to see what really happened between Olivia and Sammy. Disappointing
Jeg har læst denne bog som en del af en anmelder aftale med Gyldendal, på dansk. Havde det ikke været en del af denne aftale havde det nok været en dnf’er for mig.
Last book of this series and it was the best one!! It was part two of their relationship and I loved it, the story was worth waiting for! (aka reading the first 3 books) 3.25 stars, very specific I know 🤓
I really liked getting to learn more about Sam and Olivia as their relationship was hinted some within the other three books. This story revisits and reconnects to all that happened then and now between the two.
Within this story there is a lot of love, drama, and obstacles to be faced.
I loved the friendships these two had. They have such an amazing support team of friends and I love the author hit on that so well because I find that important especially when family drama tends to make things heightened.
Overall, I enjoyed this series with the third being my least favorite.
Cute reads!
I listened to them all on audio, and I believe the narrators did a great job on bringing the story and characters to life.
Yup, guess I’m a sucker for romcoms after all, but oh man I enjoyed this book way too much! Everything is a little too exaggerated and it seemed like everyone of the group has a sixpack and is somehow rich but oh man I loved this book, I had to laugh out loud a couple of times. Olivia is hilarious and Sammy ? Geez I love him. I loved the Asian background and how I could see a lot of parallels between their families and mine. Still can’t decide on how many stars I wanna rate it I was in a mood for a "lighter" book. Would I reread it ? Probably not Was it an epic love story? No Did I still enjoyed it and binge-read the whole series ? Oh hell yes
whole series is 2 stars, i really don’t even wanna talk about this book at all. pretty covers, they’ll look cute on my shelves hehe. skip this series and go straight the the twisted series because it’s absolutely amazing. all these books in this series were just super cringey, cliche, etc. love ana so much.
Forced proximity, exes still secretly pining for each other? Sign me up! I couldn't get enough of Sammy and Olivia's slow-burn romance. The chemistry between them was palpable from the start, and I was really rooting for them the whole time. Their history, their unresolved feelings, and the way they tried to navigate their current situation = chef's kiss. It was the kind of tension that kept me turning the pages.
That said, the third-act breakup was a bit frustrating. I get the angst, but it was a little hard to take after everything they had been through. Still, it did make the eventual resolution that much sweeter.
I also loved seeing Olivia break free from her toxic relationship with her Mum and really come into her own. Her growth throughout the story was so satisfying, especially as she built such a beautiful relationship with her sister.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one! If you're into second-chance romances with a touch of family drama and a lot of heart, this book will hit all the right notes.

This book was the best one from the if love series! Now you can see the writer behind the twisted and kings of sin being at the same level of those books!
Plot, humor, pacing, tropes, content was much much better! 😊
