This book was written by our financial planner. The reason we went with his firm is that he and his team were very knowledgeable about tax laws and how to invest to get the best tax benefits during retirement. I rated this book a 5, not because it was a riveting story, but because the information in it was so useful. In the book, the author discusses advantages and disadvantages of various investment types. He shares where it makes the best sense to draw from for your RMDs. Schmitz explains in detail investments such as Roth IRAs, Roth Conversions, 401 Ks, qualified and unqualified investments and how all these investments impact your Medicare premiums and tax requirements.

I highly recommend this book for those who have been investing but may not have dug into all the ins and outs of the different investment types. It is written in a very easy to understand style. I am not a numbers geek, but Schmitz's explanations made me better informed. The book is full of valuable information and worth the read whether you are approaching retirement or are a younger investor.

Great easy to read guide for avoiding taxes in retirement and investment planning. I borrowed this from my dad and Schmitz’s guidance aligns so much with his thinking it was scary. This has some great history of tax rates and facts that I was completely unaware of.
