Unearth the truth or be buried by lies. While surviving the brutal siege of New Salem, Colin learned there is an artifact that is unaccounted for. Exceptional items with the powers to wipe out entire settlements, the missing artifact can't be allowed to fall into the wrong hands. Colin and his growing band of companions have to rush to find the item before it becomes a threat.
But whoever is behind it has their own plans.
Someone is playing with the line between life and death, and new nightmares have started to crawl the post apocalyptic Earth, sky whales behave strangely, and mandrills are once again on the march. Threats loom around every corner.
This isn't just a fight for survival. It's a battle for dominance over the primal world.
Can Colin adapt fast enough to the relentless evolution of this savage landscape, or will he fall victim to the quickly growing storm? He better be ready, because his foes aren't waiting for him to catch up.
I like the book's plot. The length of the book is good. Colin is an interesting protagonist and I love his menagerie of animals. I like most of the interactions he has with the people around him and the creatures he meets. I am a huge fan of the leveling and system they use. Parker is a great main character as well.
The only things that detract from the books, to me, is how the book is almost 100% non-stop action. Colin and friends jump from fight to fight to fight with minimal planning and maximum destruction. It's a bonus to some but there doesn't seem to be any side stories at all.
The other thing that detracts from the book is that it seems like everything is said with a smirk. Colin literally cannot stop smirking while saying things. Even when faced with something that should draw a visceral reaction from Colin doesn't seem to get much emotional attention.
Overall, I still like the characters. I enjoyed the plots. The fight scenes are really descriptive and you can tell Colin enjoys the thrill of the hunt.
4.5 stars. Continues on a logical track from the previous books and the MC and entourage experience a good deal of growth. He still needs to put some more points into WIS at least if not INT as well, but his animal companions and Parker are capable of picking up his intellectual slack.
This is something which confuses me though. Although he is stupid by comparison to at least two of his "pets" he still comes up with all the plans. It turns out that most of his plans are basically "Arg! Fuck! Kill!" (serious points if you get that reference) so I guess being too smart he'd talk himself out of the simple slaughter which needs to happen.
Ends with a new big threat to add to the Mandrills, so I'm interested to see where the story (and the pet evolutions) go from here.
The pun is mine, none of the book uses such atrocious humor. I greatly enjoyed this addition to the series, it built up the threat to a wonderful crescendo- and now we are getting a better picture of what kinds of enemies humankind has in this apocalypse. Plus…. Sky dolphins.
Exciting! it seems like way to much is happening though
So it’s a fun exciting rpg with dinosaurs, no way you can’t really like this. Especially as it’s kind of planet of the apes too. And now creepy zombies with additional appendages?!? That’s messed up. I will say it doesn’t feel like the character is in tons of risk though … always finds a solution. Still curious though.
The third in the series was to a good romp, with interesting companions and team/character building. The use of the Skill named made their use in the Action understandable.
Excellent production with an amazing mc. In this episode you don’t see the tech staff or mc after the intro, but they are around. The big question is how are the ratings? Will it be renewed?
It’s hard to write reviews for the individual books in a series like this when you’re really just binging them. Again, very fun, easy read with dinosaurs. There’s far better books out there, but this is a great pick for a palate cleanser.
