Author-illustrator Lian Cho delivers a rib-tickling picture book about a young girl who receives a mysterious invite to a Pig Town party and follows the trail into a secret world of pigs—where epic parties, chase scenes, and a cake heist soon unfold. Hilarious twists abound!
When a mysterious invite addressed to “Cutie” arrives in the mail, a young girl follows the mailman through the hedges and discovers a dazzling, secret world of . . . pigs.
Pigs on bikes. Pigs in bakeries. Pigs on their way to a mansion.
Cutie goes to the address on her invite and is welcomed into an epic party of pigs dressed in every costume imaginable. And they love her human costume the most. Cutie realizes their mistake, and she is definitely going to set the record straight. After all, lying is wrong. But being flattered is also loads of fun. And maybe a little distracting. So when they call Cutie’s name to award her for best costume, she doesn’t realize another pig is storming up to the stage…and this pig looks angry. Author-illustrator Lian Cho delivers a hilarious tale filled with chase scenes and cake heists in a wildly imagined world.
Personally I’ve never had the pleasure of being invited to a pigs or really any animals parties thus far in my life, but if cuties little adventure of fun and mishaps is a true peek into one than maybe I’m a bit lucky for having missed that opportunity. Not just for the fun troubles to be had but as cutie also discovers, animals might not value or enjoy quite the same things as us. 3.25/5
A (4years old): I love it. I would go to a pig town party and I would wear a normal outfit. Then I would play and hopefully nobody poops. But the mud pie I would have to throw in the trash. It’s probably better for a pig.
Pig Town Party is written for young children looking for a giggle.
A case of mistaken identity results in a little human girl attending the Pig Town Party. The residents of Pig Town are fun and kind, and love strawberry cupcakes too. What could go wrong? When the results come in for the winner of the costume contest, the realization sets in. At least the little girl got to take home the cake grand prize. Too bad it wasn’t the strawberry flavor she loved.
The illustrations are whimsical, detailed, and perfect for young audiences. It’s an easy read and would be fun for a read aloud, but with all the Pig Town details, it’s nice to take the time to peer at all their shenanigans.
A surly porcine-looking (human) girl is slipped an invitation to a Pig Party (with the lure of a an ultimate prize for the "winner of this year's contest", though no indication of what the prize is for) in Pig Town. It's addressed to "Cutie", and assuming the invitation is in reference to her cuteness, even though she is not a pig, she decides to find out where Pig Town is and attend the party. She follows the mailman through a hole in the shrubbery and enters Pig Town where she is repeatedly complimented on her costume (even though she is not wearing a costume). When the winner of the costume contest is announced Cutie uncovers all the mystery shrouding the invitation: wrong Cutie. From this point the story, IMHO, deteriorates into silliness. The two fight over the prize cake, with Cutie #1 racing home with her prize. I doubt many young kids would appreciate the humor, and I felt a bit uncomfortable for overweight children who might be hearing this story as a read aloud (or reading it) when they watch the girl's ill behavior, for example, as she gobble the cupcakes she was supposed to bring.
I love how Lian Cho doesn’t just draw one pig, or two or three, but as many pigs as she can fit on a page. “Pig Town Party” is a super cute picture book abut a girl who is accidentally invited to a party in Pig Town.
So the whole book is about how she goes, even though she is human, and everyone thinks she is wearing a really cool costume. And she would have gotten away with it, if not for the real Cutie that shows up at the party.
Sometimes you just have to have a silly story, to make your day. I give it all the stars. 🙂
The only one more obsessed with this book than my children is ME!! Not only is the level of detail in the artwork masterful (and has become something we expect from a Lian Cho book), but the writing is delightfully silly, and the ending is an all-time pitch-perfect twist-- the ideal trifecta of things I look for in a picture book. Get this for your kids if you want a hilarious bedtime read-aloud AND infinite halloween costume inspo for years to come.
Funny, quick moving story about a young girl who gets an invitation to a mysterious party in Pig Town. Curious adventures ensue that end with an escape and a prize: one beautiful, towering cake...of unusual substance (haha). Littles will likely find this book confusing; better suited to older elementary kids than the preK/K crowd.
There are many, many pigs in this hilarious book and only one human who has the name, Cutie - what happens when Cutie is accidentally invited to a huge pig party is hilarious. This wacky and thoroughly unique story is one that can be shared with pretty much anyone - preschoolers to adults. The artwork is bright, colorful, and detailed (plenty of pink!) - and you just might get a craving for strawberry cupcakes after it is read!
A child receives an invite addressed to "cutie" to attend a Pig Town Party. Confused but intrigued, the child seeks answers, leading her on an unexpected trip to a raucous party in the hedges.
The writing style lends itself perfectly to a read-aloud for opinionated children. Goofy and cute!
My girls loved PIG TOWN PARTY! They were giggling throughout and especially loved trying to guess what flavor the cake was going to be at the end! They also enjoyed looking back through the gorgeous illustrations after we had read the book to see if they could find the REAL Cutie hiding on any of the pages. This is a great addition to your library!
What a weird and hilarious book. This is about a human girl who believes she's been invited to a party in pig town. It turns out to be a great story about mix-ups. I think it could spark good conversation about what to do in those situations. The whole thing is kind of absurd, and I loved that about it.
This was so funny! It incited a lot of giggles for sure. I'll have to break it out for a pig storytime. The miscommunication and the wonders of Pig Town were just so much fun, and Lian Cho's style is adorable and attractive to readers. Love it!
I love her books so much! This is a silly story about a girl who gets invited to a pig party in pig town. There everyone things she is in a costume, of a human. It's a great read aloud for older kids.
A little girl receives an invitation to the Pig Town Party. Addressed to "Cutie," and she's a cutie, so naturally she finds her way there. A silly and surreal story with lots of fun in the detailed illustrations (especially all the pigs in their costumes!)
A super cute book about mistaken identity, a secret city just for pigs, a party, and more. This was such a cute and fun book and I had a blast reading it. The ending had me in stitches, that is what you get girl. The art was just A-Plus fun! Love the details~
Very strange, though very funny, this was a sort of feverish story about an adorable little girl who goes to a Pig Town Party and what happens next. I can't say much without giving stuff away, but I got a good laugh out of this one.
