He hates referring to himself in the third person, but no-one else is going to write this for him.
Dave can be found on Twitter so drop by and say hello @joshfishkins, where you'll find him ranting about horror, the British education system and Welsh rugby, but not usually at the same time.
Watkins has written a fantastic short story, the UK equivalent of Eight Legged Freaks! If you’re scared of spiders, this tale will give you nightmares!
A group of teens sets out to explore the nearby woodlands after hearing a strange sound the previous night. They soon discover the natural order of things is amiss; giant arachnids roam and hunt, searching for their next meal. Readers can only hold their breath and hope the humans can outlive and escape these terrifying mutated creatures!
Ugh! I just cannot stand big spiders! I live in harmony with the little ones I find here and there, but anything bigger than a Canadian Toonie has to get smushed or be transported outside. This book gave me chills thinking about the giant variations and how I’d be absolutely powerless to stop them. The cover on this book also makes me want to gag! A visual that I definitely don’t want to spend too long starting at 😆🤢
This is such a great and immensely creepy short story!! My one big fear is spiders, so this book definitely had my heart pumping the entire read! It’s very well written and the details and imagery make you feel every part of the disgusting and terrifying story! I had to read all of it in one sitting, because it’s so exciting and intense, I couldn’t put it down!
Read this in a single sitting. It's fanulous. The cover perhaps gives a little away, but arachnophobes should proceed with caution. It's a great tale of three young people venturing into the woods and not much liking what they find there. As with Watkins' The Exeter Incident, it's fast-paced with really well written action sequences. His characters also feel real, and their fate mattered. I enjoyed this a great deal.
This was a really fun creature feature. Massive spiders, the British countryside, modern sensibilities. What's not to like. If Guy N Smith was around, he'd love it.
Another excellent creature feature from David Watkins... It's got all the creepies and all the crawlies who weave a web of tension and horror... (sorry not sorry for the pun)
Intriguing and terrifying tale, so fast paced you won't be able to drop it down at all, wanting to see what happens next. The only objection would be that the ending felt a bit too rushed.
A horrible, crawling, creeping tale that - if you're anything like me - will have you checking the corners of every room you enter for the next decade.
