Walker I’m back on the road with my best friends finally giving our fans the tour they deserve.
But a lot can happen in a year on hiatus, and the cohesiveness we’ve had as a band for years is starting to slip through our fingers. Onstage, we’re on top of the world. Behind the scenes, we’re falling apart.
Tensions are on the rise as we go from city to city, but I find the perfect distraction in the form of our tour's opening act.
From the moment I heard her voice, haunted and lost, I was desperate to hear more. But with a guarded heart and a case of iron will, I have to tread carefully when it comes to Scarlett Lane.
Scarlett I’ve hid my words behind other’s voices for long enough.
On a cross country tour, claiming my songs as my own with my mentor and one of the world’s most popular bands, I finally feel like I’m doing what I’ve always been meant to do.
But the heaviness that has hung over me for so many years doesn’t just go away, and neither does the desire for a drink, even with two years of sobriety under my belt.
With growing fame comes fortune and recognition for my talent, but it also strips away every piece of privacy I’ve had and flays me open for public scrutiny.
I’ve always told myself that the music comes first but will James Walker make this new life in the spotlight worth it?
My best girl wrote a book. Walker and Scar’s love didn’t come easy, but it saved them both. Michae created such an incredible world and I cannot wait for the next book!!
I had the greatest honor in alpha reading this book and Michae deeply poured her heart and soul onto these pages. Please go and check it out for yourself!
Walker is such a golden retriever hero but is fiercely protective over Scar. Scar is just trying to find her place in a world that she’s never fully felt accepted by. They form such an honest and sweet relationship and their communication is top notch.
I cannot wait to see what she does with this series and I’m already anxiously awaiting book 2
Because this is a surprise release I’ll give a more detailed review later.
However, Scarlett and Walker’s story was so beautiful, intimate and heartfelt. I am so invested in this world that Michae created and she set up stories for the other characters so well. I am very excited for following books in the series!
Full transparency, I am proudly friends with the author. I know how she poured her heart into this story and seeing it all come together is so special.
One of my favorite YouTubers @oheyitsmichae is now a published author!
When she teased on her channel, she was working on a secret project I assumed it would be a dark romance book, no she gave us a beautiful rockstar romance.
I was so impressed with Michae's writing style. She wrote Scar & Walker with so much depth and honesty, I didn't want it to end! I wanted more of their life together.
Scar's journey felt so real and heartbreaking. Walker is everything! Such a cinnamon roll hero without being too much! I am not a fan of Cinnamon Hero's but I am a Stan for Walker! His love and acceptance of Scar's darkest parts is palpable.
I will say I did find the end a bit rushed and wanted more from the climactic scene.
I loved/hated how she left things at the end because now I have to wait for the next book and I am not patient!
Another day, another bookstagrammer releases a book. I love a good rockstar romance and just finished another book so picked this up right away. Unfortunately, the story idea was really the only good thing about this, the writing feels very immature, full of clichés and doesn't flow well. I kept reading bc I wanted to see how it ended. If I may make a suggestion, maybe get some beta readers who are not your friends; however, I'm sure I will be in the minority with this and most of her friends and followers will give this book glowing reviews.
This is a rock star romance, and the first book in a series that follows the members of a band: the Whisper Me Nothings. It's also the first book of brand spanking new author, Michae. This story has heart. It's a solid 3.5 stars from me.
Let's start with what I love about this book:
The music! I love the banter between the musos, and love the anticipation for the gigs. You can tell this is written by someone passionate about live music. I am too, so this book is definitely my thing.
I think the biggest strength of this book is its characters. Not just the main characters, but the whole community. I read for characters, and I was invested in the people Michae brought to life. I sank into the story really naturally and felt for the characters quickly. For instance, I felt immediately protective about Hayden and Scarlett at a point where very few words had actually been used to describe them. Key point: I thought character development was well done.
Scarlett's entrance into the story is absolutely beautiful. Her voice, her words, and her haunting music. That scene was powerful and so relatable too. How many times have you seen a singer open her mouth and had the sound of her voice ring out and just about rip your heart out of your chest from the emotion in it? That this was Walker's introduction to Scar was awesome. Loved it.
Friendship and care and concern between friends is a strength of the book. I was really happy to read a romance where, despite their wounds and troubles, the couple didn't just cling to each other. They have friends who are like family. I love that Boone is so protective of Scar, that he is so very loyal, has always been there to help her achieve her potential, and just cared so much throughout both her destructive past and her successes as she clawed her way back.
Let's talk about the band. Chapter 5/6 talking about the band huddle and them breathing together was awesome, both when it was told through Walker and Scar's eyes. The bond between brothers was really special and well done. Of them coming together to create something bigger than themselves... That's just so much a part of music. I loved this aspect. It's also why it was painful to see them crumble towards the end. I love the band and am really keen to read their stories. Needless to say, I will stick with the series!
I also appreciate the portrayal of strong and positive female friendship. The relationship between Naomi and Scar was good to see, and so was Naomi's lack of jealousy at the relationship Scar and Boone have (and that it is and always has been purely platonic). Her acceptance of Boone's passion for music and all that comes with the industry was also pretty admirable. Naomi is cool. Scar's protectiveness of Carter was also awesome.
On the romance front, I was well and truly invested. Walker is not the usual kind of MMC I fall for, but I loved him for her, if that makes sense. Yes, he's hot, obviously, but he's just so flipping wholesome (for someone living the tour life of a rock star), supportive and kind, playful and funny. He's solid and dependable. I found this really refreshing.
In fact, their relationship was refreshing full stop. No stupid miscommunication trope. They said what was troubling them and understood when there was reticence. When they f^&%ed up, they apologised and got on with it. Except for some hiccups before they got together, there were no toxic insecurities between them. When conflict came, it was with band members and Scar's family (i.e., outside of the couple), which was an interesting move. I liked it. That said, it was a bit of a slow burn, so there was a nice amount of tension, and the story was peppered with so many sweet moments. The airport, opening up, head on shoulder... sigh. The way Walker was so respectful and had her back was awesome.
Scar is a great character. Tough, creative, passionate, loyal, a little bit broken but striving to do her best and succeeding. I liked the way her ongoing struggles with alcohol were portrayed. I teared up when Walker saw the vodka bottle next to her on the pew, but was so glad we didn't have to watch her fall again. I liked the exploration of families, and how they can both build us up and tear us down. I also really liked hearing Scar's thoughts on her religious upbringing, sense of identity, place in the world and in relationship to whatever is out there. The self-righteous judgement of her parents and congregation hit me in the feels. I sympathised a lot... not really sure how people go from Christ's teachings to narrow-minded jerks without compassion for others, but come on... we all know this is a thing. I was there for it. Anyway, I liked Scar a lot.
There are laughs throughout, from the memory of the icky spinach in the back of the bus fridge to the way Scar and Walker kept getting interrupted while trying to jump each other for the first time. The humour made me smile.
There was a lot to love in Take You Down. However, there is room to improve, which is as I would expect in a writer still honing her craft and her voice. I write this next bit knowing this is a first work, wanting very much for the author to fulfil her potential, and hoping that this comes across as it is intended: constructive criticism.
The writing style was nice and laid back. Perhaps this was why I found it easy to sink into the story. That said, some of the word choice and order felt clunky in a few places. This hit me most in the beginning. I recognise this could be based on personal preference and me just adjusting to idiosyncrasies in the writing style that I don't share.
The start was OK, but I don't think it was the best. Hangover, fame, and sunglasses. The story quickly moved onto what I thought was stronger material, though: that excitement and passion for live music, the meeting of the main characters, and the found family.
Reid was the one character who didn't quite ring true for me. Conflict and plot hinged on his character, but I felt like there was a little bit of a disconnect between what we were told about him and how he was behaving in the present. It was hard for me to feel that there ever had been warmth and affection between him, Hayden, and Walker before. I'm hoping later books will help unpack his character and make him make sense to me.
Now we get to my least favourite thing. Even after proofing, there were some noticeable grammar issues throughout, specifically with verb agreement, use of commas, a couple of random words where they shouldn't have been, etc. Although they didn't take me out of the story, the mistakes made me wince a little bit. The unfortunate clip/clit autocorrect error in the sex scene on the bus is a good example. I had a good laugh about it, but ouch. Damn you, autocorrect!!! I was heavily invested in the characters, and when I care about them, I forgive just about everything else, but this needs work.
While I'm on the spice, thumbs up! I was so relieved there was no mewling. I hate that word with the power of a thousand suns. I like my spice, but some of what's out there gives me the ick. None of the dirty talk made me want to barf. The opposite. It was hot. Yay! Also, finally an epilogue that doesn't make me roll my eyes. I'm so over epilogues that have people hitched and popping out babies five years later. While I'm on random things, I LOVE the cover, and the name of the band is also awesome.
OK, I've been a bit self-indulgent in the length of this review, so if you're still reading, I'm kind of surprised. To sum up, thank you to Michae for bringing us Scar, Walker, and the band. Your book has heart, and I had a great time reading it.

This was a great debut! I loved Walker and Scar so much. It took me a while to get into the story, but that last 50% flew by! Also, I’m invested in what is going to happen in the next books based on how that ended.
Michae Marie wrote a book and it was so good. I'm so proud. Take You Down is Book 1 in the Whisper Me Nothings series We're following a group of four friends in a famous band called Whisper Me Nothings. The first one to get his story is Walker the drummer of the Band . His heroine is Scarlett The opening act for the band on tour.
I've read a lot of rockstar romances and usually we get the tortured hero and the heroine trying to get the hero to see the good in his circumstances. In Take You Down we get the reverse Scarlett is the one with a tortured past. Walker is there to show her that everybody is broken. Nobody's perfect but there is beauty in our broken parts. You just have to let someone close enough to see them and love you for it. And that's what she does. I loved Scarlett and Walker so much. Scarlet found her Person In Walker someone who is always going to be there for her unconditionally and that's all she ever wanted. And with Scarlet Walker found the same. Michae did her thing with this book everyone should go read it
I really really loved Walker and Scar ♡ it was a great journey and an amazing debut book. I follow Michae on Booktube and Bookstagram, so it was an instant download as she announced the book. I had lots of fun reading this story and I'm excited for the rest of the group!
Congratulations on your great debut all the way back from Germany
MICHAE MARIE DID THAT 🤩🔥 wow wow wow this was my first rockstar romance, and I can assure you it will not be my last. I’m SO excited for Take My Hand to release this month!
4.5 ACTUALLY SO GOOD i was obsessed with the characters and the storyline plus the writing was really good for being a debut author/booktuber! i was so impressed with how much i liked this and i can’t wait for the other books in the series 🌟
I follow this author on YouTube @Oheyitsmichae and when I found out that she was publishing her own book I had to pick it up and give it a read and I’m so glad I did!
This book is super cute and a fast, fun read! No kidding I read it through in one day (even during work hours when I shouldn’t be glued to my phone). I really enjoyed the characters all around and their story
The book takes you on a tour with a pop rock band and a musician as their pre show as well as a known DJ. It follows Walker as a member of the band and Scar as the solo musician for the pre show.
Walker is such a cutie, super kind and thoughtful while also being grounded. He is definitely like the “dad” of the group. Scar comes from a more complicated background as she isn’t talking to her family and has had issues with alcohol abuse. She is now for the first time sharing her own voice and music as her own. I really liked the book instantly from the first 2 chapters as we got introduced to this world and the other side characters. My favorites are definitely Hayden and Reid (can’t wait for their books).
The writing style is right up my alley and I liked how there weren’t too many cliches in the plot. I liked the pacing and the change of the typical super dramatic breakup toward the end of the book so I enjoyed that.
The only thing I can think of to critique the book is that the ending felt a bit rushed and sudden, other than that it was just super fun and easy to read, will definitely be checking out the entire series!
As for the author, she inspired me to make my own ideas into reality so who knows - I just might publish my own book one day, thank you for the inspiration and congratulations you should be super proud of your debut novel I hope mine is even 1% as good one day. Well done!

I haven’t read a book for fun in about 3 or 4 years, so the fact that I was able to finish this book says a lot about the content and the author! I usually don’t read books like this, but this year I’ve decided to read books that my wife reads so we can discuss them! The book was great. Michae especially did a really good job with the dialogue; it was so fluid and felt authentic between the characters. I was shocked to find out that this was her first novel! My only complaint is that there were some characters that I would love to know more about. But not surprised cause that means I’ll have to wait until more books are written.
PS thanks to this book I’ve got some new material to spice up my pillow talk with my wife 👍🏿
I was so hooked to read this book by Michae, she is a booktuber I watch regularly and I was so excited for her to come out with a book! Musician romances aren't my favourite trope, but I wanted to try another especially as it was written by Michae, and it was an incredible first book! I can't wait to see what else she does. :)
This book was fast paced and kept me in engaged it was a good debut I just didn’t click with some of the story but the writing was pretty good I just felt like something was missing but I’m intrigued to see what Michae comes up with next.
What a debut this was!! I’m so happy for Michae and can’t wait to see what else she comes up with. The writing, the pacing, the plot, the characters and honestly everything was amazing. The story flowed so well.
I fell in love with Walker with how understanding, protective and gentle he was. Ugh he has my heart.
I was so proud of Scar and the journey that she went on to become the person she is today. She is truly strong and I respect her for resisting temptation and coming out stronger.
Both of them were amazing people and they were better together. I loved how they communicated really well with each other like proper adults so there was no place for miscommunication. Also, they both were protective of each other and it was so beautiful to see them defend each other.
Michae you did it!!
Im so excited for Hayden, Nikolai and even the asshole Reid
3,5. Great debut novel! Liked the characters and the story. The writing style could use a little maturing at times, but looking forward to seeing it develop in the next book
*3.5* I love Michae's booktube channel and want to support her new journey as a writer. I love that she has the courage to venture into writing and this book/series has great potential. I am rating this 4 stars rounded off to support her debut.
I will say I'm a firm believer in leaving honest reviews on here and that is what I plan on doing, hoping that my feedback on this books is received as constructive and not so much a negative review on the book.
I like the idea for the book/series. It's clear the author has a passion for music and a rockstar romance is something that isn't in 'trend' at the moment, which is very refreshing to read about. I like the idea of the heroine being from a religious background and her having to deal with her past and her past vices was a great journey to follow. This part of the story was executed well in my opinion.
The romance was front and center, but the chemistry between the characters could use some work. The dialogue between them didn't offer too much of a bonding or banter between them to have me as invested as I wanted to be. The romantic exchanges therefore felt flat/cliched instead of truly romantic.
The hero and the band mates are distinguishable from one another, which is great. However, the way their issues were represented fell a bit flat. Reid for example is very 2 dimensional. He's used in this plot for conflict only. We don't see why he's acting the way he is. We literally got 1 sentence in explanation about his behavior. I understand Michae is going to flush him out in the course of his own book, but if he's that unlikable in this book, chances are people will not want to read his book.
The writing in this book has great potential and I do believe for a debut novel this was a good start. I feel like Michae will improve with every single book she writes and I hope if she reads this she can appreciate the feedback is meant to help her improve and not to criticize the effort she put into this book.
I was a little scared to read it as I've been watching Michae's channel for over a year now and I really wanted to like this book 🤓 Fortunately, I did 🩷
Scar is an up and coming solo artist who is finally ready to put her own voice to the lyrics she's been writing. She takes the opportunity to be a supporting act on the tour headlined by her DJ best friend and an established band, Whisper Me Nothings. As her friend is joined by his girlfriend, Scar has to bunk with the band on their tour bus.
Walker is the band's drummer and they're finally coming back on tour after a year-long hiatus. Once he hears their opening act pouring her heart out on sound check, he becomes curious with the girl behind the hauntingly beautiful voice.
This story truly surprised me as it is simply marketed as a rockstar romance and yet it covers such topics as alcoholism and religious upbringing. At the beginning, it was a little too slow for me and the MCs didn't have enough interactions together. Around half way through the book, the action sped up and the pace was to the point. I struggled a little bit believing that Scar and Walker had already loved each other, but otherwise the connection was there. I liked the complexities of Scar's character and all the drama involving her family. I wish we could dive as much into Walker.
All in all, it is a solid book and I easily flew through the second part of it. Taking into consideration that this is a debut novel, it's even better. The side characters were established so well, I can't wait to read about Jane and Reid 🤓
"It's a privilege to get to see and love every part of you, Scar."
Was I to be expected to be crying my eyes out while reading this book? No, but I absolutely did. This book was such an amazing book (debut by this author) and I’m in complete awe of how well the characters and story was written. The words paints out scenes in my head so vividly throughout the book, and makes the pacing addictive. Scarlett’s (Scar) story is something I could personally relate and resonate to, and I loved how I could connect to her on a deep emotional level. And Walker is everything I want for a hero. He’s funny, sexy and plays candy crush on his free time, but also so protective of Scar. I mean, yes please, I eat it up! And i absolutely loved these two together and their relationship. These two totally completed each other in so many ways. I’ve followed Michae for a couple of years now and I literally cannot wait to read from her (I’m also eagerly waiting for Reid’s book now haha)!!
"From what l've seen, you're anything but selfish, James Walker."
Highly recommend checking this book out if you like: 💜 Rockstar (drummer) x singer romance 💚 Reverse grumpy x sunshine 💜 Forced proximity 💚 He falls first 💜 Slow burn
I’m not a huge fan of rockstar romances but I am a huge fan of Michae and her YouTube channel so I wanted to support her. I really liked this story. Scar is a character that would resonate with so many people. So many of us struggle with self-worth and seeing her journey and the way she grew from that was a beautiful thing. Of course she did have Walker to support her. The way he allowed Scar to move at her own pace without passing judgment was nice to see, especially after meeting her parents. Ugh, pass on them, thank you. For a debut this book was amazing. The pacing worked well for me, I loved the slow burn between Scar and Walker. The writing itself was cohesive and well executed. My only critique is with the friction between Reid and the other guys. At times I felt like I was missing information but I am assuming this will be addressed in future books.
It's my first time ever to read the book by this author and I'm so proud to know this one turned out to be so good and worth my time! It's been a while since I last read rockstar romance and this one was totally worth it!! James and Scar have my heart for this one like the chemistry, understanding they both had between them was truly amazing Scarlett turned out to be stronger than what her last would have made her, despite the religious restrictions, alcohol addiction she still followed her dreams and made her own name truly a inspiring story it was Her parents were shitty, I didn't expect her mother to be like her father but glad to know that atleast her sister had her back despite growing in that toxic household James bandmates were truly incredible especially nik with his easy going nature and humor Looking forward to more of your books Michael✨ Atta Gurl
