Olf : Santa's naughtiest reindeer

Rate this book
Over the mountains, through the valleys, and deep into the North Pole lies a secret village. This is where Santa , or Father Christmas , or Nick , he doesn’t mind whatever you to call him as long as there is food involved, lives.

A special package is due to be delivered by a magical stork. It is the greatest gift of all. Santa's friends, Thunder and Gale , are expecting a child, a new addition to the proud reindeer family.

They name him OLF , and he grows to become the strongest, fastest, reindeer the whole of the North Pole has ever seen.

However, OLF has a problem. He is naughty. He is rude, obnoxious, and downlike dislikeable. Even Santa himself doesn’t really like him and has pondered long and hard on how to put him on the Naughty List!

When his friends play a trick on him, getting him back for everything he has done to them over the years, no one knows it, but a legend is born, one who might just be able to save Christmas …

OLF is a delightful novel for everyone who enjoys the festive season.

So DE McCluskey sent us this book a few weeks ago to read and review. He wants my opinion but he was very specific wanting to get my 9 year old sons opinion. So it's time to deliver.

This book was such a nice break from the normal Christmas story. No religion, politics, wokeness, or agenda. Just a straight forward, very enjoyable Christmas tale. We read it out loud as a family a few nights each week and we all laughed and rooted along for the characters together. It is seriously funny. We laughed several times out loud. It is a bit lengthy, as it is a chapter book, but I don't mean to say that to deter you. Like I said before, it was a nice change of pace. The language isn't dumbed down for children and neither is the length of the book.

With that being said and without further ado, here are the thoughts of a 9 year old boy on Olf Santa's Naughtiest Reindeer.

So I honestly love the book, the story the great and its very funny.but some of the words in it are probably a little big, so i would say its good for kids 8 to 12.I loved the jokes in it and how olf is always goofing off like in the part where he was with his conscience he imagined that he was on a air plain and jumped off.but any ways I will give the book 4 stars!

And there you have it!
The book is available now on paperback and kindle.

I know this is supposed to be written for children but this adult had a great time with this book. It's hilarious, laugh-out-loud escapism and the perfect antidote to the constant angst we are bombarded with on a daily basis.

Olf is the ultimate naughty reindeer, forever speaking his mind, irrespective of anyone's feelings until one day...

Do yourself a favour, put all the serious stuff to one side for a couple of hours in the company of multi-faceted author Dave McCluskey and a tale (tail?) of mayhem, madness, and high jinks at the North Pole where penguins will sell you anything for a sardine and Santa needs Christmas miracle.

Great fun.

I read this with my family for Christmas and had such a great time. There were tons of laughs, and we made some great memories .

Definitely recommend this as a must-have for families looking for something fun and festive to add their holiday reading . It's perfect for young readers and the young at heart.

I will be back with a full review from both myself and my 11 year old as soon as life is a little less hectic

Thank You Dave McCluskey

A wonderful reimagining of a time old childhood classic. There are a lot of funny moments all thru this story. I highly recommend it becomes a traditional holiday read.

Love the cute illustrations throughout the book. The book cover fits the story. It's 5 star.

A fun and delightful novel. Despite being an adult and this being written for children I really enjoyed this book.

A fun christmassy read that could be enjoyed any time of year

I've read McClusky's previous version of this in the comic book form and I really like how he expanded on the original story and fleshed it out a lot more without losing any of the magic or comedy of the original.

This was a fun little tale of how Olf became known as Rude Olf and saved Christmas. It is aimed at children, but adults will also enjoy it, as I did. And it did make me laugh out loud a couple of times, too! A delightful festive read!

Such an excellent, original version of a well known and beloved (or maybe not so beloved) character.

I plan to read a chapter or two to my kids daily leading up to Christmas. There's just enough action and rudeness in it that they will be as enthralled with the story as I was. Can you ever have enough "bum burps" when it comes to kiddos?

It's not every day I get to read a Christmas story in October, but it's got me ready to skip Halloween and head straight into Christmas.

I'd recommend for kids over the age of 6, but do yourself a favour and gift it to yourself if your kids are younger. Give it a read, it's magical and stuff! Enjoy!
