After Jim Pastor, a Reaper working at Grim Reaper, Inc., messes up on his latest assignment, he is exiled to Earth for one week. As if that's not bad enough, he encounters a ghost who tells him of a corrupt senator's plot to begin World War III—the discovery of which led to her murder. Though he thinks she's joking at first, Pastor quickly realizes she's serious.
Dead serious.
And so begins Pastor's race against time to prevent the assassination of a South American president, which would kick-start a war that will not only affect the mortal realm, but the afterlife as well. Although this mission goes against everything his job requires, another world war is something he must stop at any cost, including his very life.
This was an enjoyable read. I really dig Clay's worldbuilding: his afterlife and how it interacts with the now-life (my words, not his ;) is interesting. Characters are engaged with each other in meaningful ways (I especially like Abby). The action is fun and unrolls quickly (but isn't frenetic and exhausting). Excellent work, Clay! (I work with Clay, so, yes, we're on a first-name basis. Hehe.)
