Jacks Moore is a rom-com obsessed hockey player who has never been in love before. The only girl who has ever caught his eye has a boyfriend, and he’s not one to ruin a relationship. So when she comes to him during their sophomore year with a plan to make her now ex-boyfriend jealous, it's an offer he can’t refuse. The only problem is that he doesn't want to fake date her. He wants it to be real, but for now, he’ll take what he can get. Claire Canes is a shy girl who loves photography and Hallmark movies. She’s generally an agreeable person until her boyfriend breaks up with her on their three-year anniversary. Wanting to make him feel how she did, she creates a plan with two of her friends—which involves fake dating a hockey player that she’s only spoken to a handful of times. As the two movie lovers unite and boundaries are crossed, they realize that this fake relationship is turning into something real, and neither of them knows what to do about it.
Emily Tudor creates characters and stories about platonic and romantic love for anyone and everyone. She lives in the state of New York and loves listening to music and creating stories. She loves Marvel movies, the song mirrorball by Taylor Swift, and buying too many books when she already has many to read at home.
ma’am, emily, how? how can you make me feel so many things for someone you call a “side character” like i am absolutely positively in love with jacks.
don’t get me started on claire either… i have such a girlcrush on her. it’s not even funny, i might be a touch obsessed with her, no joke.
i knew i was gonna love this, i mean, i did bully em into writing it, but i don’t think love even fully captures how much i adore this novella. emily never disappoints and this is my formal application to move into her brain so i can befriend all of the grand mountain babies.
maybe spoilers below! dude emily seriously why is this series to cutest thing ever. at first when i heard it was a novella, i immediately thought of jacksclaire, and im so glad they finally got a book! claire has always been my favorite girl of the “book club” (even tho she’s not part of it, technically). her vibe is so similar to mine and she’s so IGH she’s just perfect.
grants cameos actually r the funniest thing ever i was DYINGGG at everything he said, my fav bbg (jacks is def 2nd tho!!!!!)
can’t wait for whatever ur hinting at on ur story (hey you should reveal what it is cuz im impatient!!!!) and also can’t wait for my fav enemies to lovers bbies, ella and leooooooo!!! ur writing gets even better (didn’t know that was possible) with each book, and i can’t wait to see ur future books 🩷
Go read Emily Tudor’s books. I love this one also, not just the first in this series but also this cute little novella.
I love Jacks; he’s so whipped for her and so obsessed with her. He’s so shy, and I love that about him, and he’s such a good friend to Grant. I loved the little snippets of Grant and Hads story also from another perspective.
The other main character, Claire, in my opinion, was so relatable, and she was so cute. I love that it was a fake dating trope, but he was like whipped by her from the start; like, from seeing her, he was whipped. Emily can make me feel so many things. I was giggling, and then, sometimes on the verge of crying because of Grant and Hads Story but also because sometimes the main characters thought they weren't going to feel loved.
Also, so excited to read the next book. I know I’m going to fall in love with it because it’s going to be about Paige, and I love her. I recommend you read from her because she can make you feel things. She’s an incredible writer.
I love her books so much they have a special place in my heart. I’m going to give this book 5 stars and cannot wait to read more books from her.
reread 2025: i still love this!! jacksclaire & fake dating will always be famous to me 😌🤞🏼
i don't normally rate novellas, but i absolutely LOVED this one so i have to give it a 5 star rating and review <3
i adored this story soooo so much. jacks is definitely a new favorite book boyfriend of mine!!! he had me twirling my hair, giggling, and kicking my feet!!!!!
Ok... This book... It is my favourite in the series!! No words... 🫶🫶 Guys... Just read it!!!! It's sooooo good!! I loved it more than the first one!!! 💗💗😭 This guy, he's my favourite!!! 🫶🫶🫶👏👏 Jacks is THE MAN!!! No doubt about it!! I looove him!!!
I had the most fun reading this book. I was literally giggling and kicking my feet (internally) and blushing (like, it's not even happening to me... It's just ink on a dead tree...💀👀) But goddamn!! If other people saw me while reading this, they would've thought I was crazy or something! 😂😭
And Claire!!! I really wanna meet her IRL and become her friends!! She's such a sweetheart!! 💝💝🫂 NGL... I kinda had a girlcruch on this girl bro!!! Like 👄💝💝❤️🩹💖💖💖🤭🤭😭💗💗👌👌
With each chapter, i just kept falling more and more for Jacks Moore!! 🎉💯💝❤️🩹🫂🫂🫂 And each time he talks about Claire and how pretty she is, it's soo cute and sweet!! 🥰🥰
And i love the fact that Claire knew she loved him instead of thinking that it was just attraction or stuff like that! 🫶👏
I wish this book was longer, it ended wayyyy too fast!! 😭😭😭 Like what do you mean this is 1.5 😭😭😭😭
The rain scene 🌧️ 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🤭🤭🤭😭 And after that... 👀👀🫣🤭🥵👄👄👀
Another Emily Tudor book that I thoroughly enjoyed—so much so that I even considered giving it a full five stars. So why didn’t I, if I loved it so much? Maybe because at times, it felt like it leaned a bit too much on Replaying the Game and wasn’t entirely a standalone. That’s the only thing that bothered me slightly, but everything else was perfect.
The chemistry between Jacks and Claire was beautiful and tangible. Jacks, in particular, was incredibly sweet and patient—I was absolutely charmed by his character. I also loved the storyline and how they met and grew closer. It reminded me of the romantic comedies I used to watch with my mom, which both Claire and Jacks are fans of in the book as well.
All in all, another Emily Tudor novel that I can genuinely recommend.
it’s somewhere between a 4.5/5 for me honestly. they were so cute. and i love fake dating. i think this was a really good version of fake dating since really no one knew so they were almost always in a scenario where they acted like they were together in a way where it freaked neither of them out how real it felt. and him having a crush on her beforehand helped me not feel like it was so rushed i think. i also really liked that they got together and we got to see after the fact. i know it was partially to get into the grant and hads story and tie them together but also to get to the i love you stage since they actually started dating like normal people. but they were cute and i loved how natural it felt.
wow! this one was significantly better than the author’s last one!
i’m not sure how much time passed in between writing the first of this series and then this one, but the writing and plot is so much more developed! maybe it’s because this one was much shorter than the last, and her plots tend to fit a shorter narrative?
there were a couple things i didn’t totally love but i thought it was cute and simple and i wanted to keep picking it back up!
this was such a pleasant surprise from this author! hopefully they continue to evolve their writing skills!!
this was a novella and i didnt even read the first books ( which after reading this one, im def going to ) but i still loved it sm ! it was a fun, sweet, cute, and quick hockey romance 💌 it also has the fake dating trope ! And it’s dual pov !
but OMG i couldn’t stop giggling and kicking my feet !!!! THAT MAN. LISTEN, he’s a rom com lover, he loves books and he’s a SWIFTIE. HELLO. And he’s literally the most adorable and sweet guy EVER ! the things he did for claire and said to her 😩 I WOULDVE FOLDED INSTANTLY.
i’ve been meaning to read this FOREVER. and i’m so happy i finally did. i’m tempted to go back a reread the other two books in the series because it’s been SO long since i read them and i need to refresh my memory. anyways. claire and jacks are everything!!!! i love them so muchhhhhh. go read this.
side note to emily tudor specifically: did you make clays nickname for claire, “claire bear” because if gibsie and claire? because that’s what i immediately thought of when i read that. okay bye for real this time.
Jacks and Claire's story is one of the cutest stories of Grand Mountain, it's kind of a tie between them and Hads and Grant.
But I need to say I loved the fake dating (that lasted like 5 minutes, the fake part anyways) and the revenge they got on her ex because fuck that guy.
Jacks is such a good guy and I am glad to have taken the time to read his story with Claire. They are the cutest and I can't wait to hopefully see what happens in the future for them.
ohmygosh!!! i loved this novella so much!! getting to see jacks and claire fall in love was the sweetest thing ever and i think i smiled when reading from start to finish🥰 so many of my favorite tropes were featured and the entire plot/storyline was right out of a rom com which i of course adored. like the dancing in the rain scene?? LOVEEEE. i truly loved this book an insane amount!!
It was a cute little story and I loved Jacks. Of course Jacks reminded me of Jack Hughes. (If you don't know, I love him🥰) and of course he was #86 on his team too!!! I didn't really like Claire though. I didn't feel connected with her but Jacks made up for it.
Ahhh! Jacks and Claire! Fake dating to real dating! I loved every second of this one! I need more! I loved that Jacks loved rom coms! But saying Netflix over Hallmark was a big Uhoh! lol! Can’t wait to read Paige and Oliver next!
