A Lodge Affair

Rate this book
Ivy Lawson loves a to-do list, hates surprises, and the only outdoor activity she’s interested in is brunch on a patio.

After catching her long-term boyfriend—and co-worker—cheating, she’s thrown into leading a high-profile client event at The Emerald Canopy Lodge.

AKA: her nightmare destination.

Ivy finds herself desperate and anxious to get her job done and leave the lodge as soon as possible. But when she meets the lodge owner, Holland Holt—a man of few words who prefers even fewer people—she starts to realize that maybe the lodge has a few more charming attributes than she originally assumed.

After one chaotic mishap after another, Ivy is forced to extend her stay and come to terms with her affection toward the lodge’s owner.

As their paths continue to overlap, Ivy must decide if she’s ready to relinquish control over every aspect of her carefully curated life; and Holland needs to find a way to move forward with the hand life dealt him.

A Lodge Affair is a grumpy sunshine, opposites attract rom-com.

review:
This books was amazing!! Omg I loved it so much! The writing was absolutely beautiful, the characters were so well written and their development throughout the story was phenomenal. Ivy was so relatable when it came to her anxiety and was such a fun and lovable character. Holland was so sweet! I loved how he took care of Ivy and helped her manage her anxiety even when he first met her. The lodge that this book is set in is the vacation spot of my dreams! I could picture it so clearly and it was a beautiful one! The small town vibes were incredible and I definitely wanted to move there by the end of it. I can’t not recommend this book enough and I’m so happy I was given the opportunity to read an ARC copy of it.

Wow. For this to be the author’s debut novel I am very impressed! I thought it was an adorable story in a great setting with relatable main characters and some of the best/cutest side characters.

I related to Ivy so incredibly much. Her need for organization and control, her constant apologizing for things that aren’t her fault and the inability to say no or speak up about things in order to keep the peace. That is totally me, and I was so happy with her character development.

Holland preferred to keep to himself and run the lodge to the best of his ability, but underneath the grumpy exterior he was a total sweetheart. My heart absolutely broke hearing about his past.

If you enjoy a slow burn, rom-com set in a woodsy cabin, with light spice add this book to your TBR immediately.

This was cute. I did like the anxiety rep but it was so heavily involved with her job I felt like that’s all I was reading about at times. I wish I’d felt more of the chemistry with the couple but I enjoyed it.

4.5 rounded up to 5! I just love when you connect so well with a character that it feels like their thoughts are ripped straight from your head. Ivy is that character for me, we are anxious, neurotic, always over thinking every little thing and constantly feeling like a burden. There is something about reading a character with similar characteristics that is so validating and cathartic.

No matter if you relate to Ivy as well as I did or not, you will find something for yourself in this book. Rachel LaBerge delivers a heartwarming, endearing romance filled with characters overcoming their own fears and standing up to those scary challenges, all while whisking you away to a gorgeous woodsy setting with an adorable doggy side character, what more could we ask for?!

Readers meet Ivy, she is getting over a bad breakup, and is running on fumes as she arrives at The Emerald Canopy Lodge for a work trip. She is burnt out, being too hard on herself and desperate to catch a break. Enter Holland, the reclusive owner, who is going through his own share of struggles, except he chooses to bury them deep down and run. They have an instant spark, and while they are both too nervous to initially act on it, they bring smiles back each other's faces and break down those walls slowly but surely.

I just loved seeing both these characters bloom throughout the book, with my favourite part of their relationship being how unconditionally supportive they are of one another. These two characters felt so natural together and came into each others lives right when they truly needed each other the most.

You will fall in love with the smell of the campfire, a little french bulldog and Ivy and Holland's journey!

Every Rachel LaBerge book I’ve picked up has been a win, and A Lodge Affair was no different. If you know me, you know I never read the synopsis before diving in, and I’m so glad I went in blind with this one—it made the story hit even better!

I absolutely love books where the characters grow together, facing their roadblocks as a team, and these two nailed it. Their chemistry was off the charts! This was the slowest of slow burns, but trust me, it was so worth it when things finally heated up toward the end.

It was sweet and heartwarming, but it also tackled some heavier topics with care and thoughtfulness, adding so much depth to the story.

Now, I’ll be immediately picking up the novella because I need more of these characters in my life. Rachel LaBerge has done it again!

SPOILER FREE ARC REVIEW

Tags: F/M, dual POVs, grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, anxiety rep, opposites attract, slow burn

Triggers: multiple unwanted sexual advances (one escalating to assault), anxiety, cheating ex, gaslighting about an assault, death of a family member (in past but reoccurring topic), panic attacks,

This was the first book I’ve read in a long time that doesn’t have sex until the end and I was totally okay with lol

Summary:
So we got our girl Ivy who is a #citygirl and trying to up her career (as she should) by going on this work trip to a lodge in the middle of the woods and working with a client. Despite the fact that Ivy hates outdoors (same) and her cheating ex is trying to make everything harder for her, she’s doing her best at the lodge. BUT THEN the lodge has a little mishap which send bestie Ivy into a panic attack (which same) but don’t worry cause a hot af grump man comes in to save the day. Here comes Mr. Holland - the woodsy simpy manly man who owns the lodge. He helps out Ivy and immediately becomes infatuated with her (not in a creepy way). The two build a bond over the following weeks while trying to work through their own individual struggles.

Thot’s Thoughts:
The Characters - This book was so damn sweet. I loved both the MCs (Ivy and Holland) and the side characters. I think the portrayal of mental health and dealing with past trauma was so well done in this book. I think it played an important part in building the characters and their relationship. It feels like the anxiety was written by someone who actually has anxiety which I appreciated a lot. I really related to Ivy and felt very connected to her. Also Holland is my ideal man and I want one of him to go plz

The Setting - I’m not a woodsy girlie but reading this made me want to go to a cabin in the mountains and chill out up there. IDK how a resort like this was making bank cause it seems like it’s in the middle of nowhere and they giving out free shit like a gourmet smores bar but I digress. The lodge played an important part in both the romance and the growth of the characters (especially Holland).

The Romance - The romance is pretty fast paced (like in terms of feelings developed) but is physically a slow burn which I think really worked. I wanted to cry at how attentive Holland was and how he was a simp for Ivy. He was so considerate of Ivy’s feelings and anxiety. I like how they have a little fight but talk it over and talk over the feelings. The relationship felt real and not romanticized (even tho it was super romantic lol). Ivy and Holland were different but compatible like they truly felt like they fit together.

The Spice - This was definitely low spice but there were some steamy moments that got c*ckblocked lol. I think it worked for this relationship though cause Ivy’s and Holland’s anxiety played a part in them stopping themselves from physically being forward which just made sense for their plot lines. There’s a spicy scene near the end which was hot and I enjoyed. Like I said earlier, I wasn’t actually disappointed at the lack of spice cause I enjoyed this story so much.

The only reason I knocked off a star was because there was one point in the middle of the book where I kinda lost interest but then it picked up again. I highly suggest this read though. It was sweet and had depth and realistic but romantic. Please check trigger warnings though!

Thank you to Rachel LaBerge for this ARC!

Thank you so much to Rachel for sending me an ARC of your debut novel! Thank you thank you thank you for giving me the chance to meet Ivy, Holland, and Slate early.

The slow burn on this one was slooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww burning!

I am a planner through and through and I most definitely look up the menu before I go to a restaurant. I saw a lot of myself in Ivy and the instant safe feeling she has when she's with Holland reminds me so much of when I first met my fiancé.

I absolutely loved Bea and HATED Jack and Royce! This book made me feel like I need to plan a vacation to a cabin in the woods somewhere.

The little things that Holland did for Ivy without her knowing made my heart melt.

The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the ending of the book. I felt like the conflict could've easily been solved with a conversation. It felt like they got into more than one argument and just pretended it didn't happen. Overall, I had a great time at the Emerald Canopy Lodge.

ARC REVIEW - NO SPOILERS

5 Magnificent Stars ⭐️

First, let’s meet the lovely couple:

Holland Holt, owner of The Emerald Canopy Lodge, is a “leave me alone, i just want to hangout with my dog” kind of guy (I don’t blame him, his Frenchie is adorable). He’s not one to talk about his feelings or put himself into any social situations if he can help it… but all that changes when he meets the social butterfly, Ivy Lawson.

Ivy is the queen of planning and an avid sugar fiend. She hates the outdoors and any physical activity that doesn’t involve her Peloton. After a bad breakup, she has to take a business trip to a lodge (not a hotel with a nice spa, to her utter dismay) and experiences things she never could have prepared for.

My thoughts in 3 words? I’m in love.

If you’re a fan of rom-coms then you need to read this. I was giggling & kicking my feet one minute and crying the next. This book is HEAVY on the opposites attract and grumpy/sunshine tropes with good ole forced proximity. The first line of the book had me hooked and it didn’t stop there, I read this in one sitting because I literally could not put it down. Since it is dual POV, after every chapter i was like “okay and what does Ivy/Holland think of THAT” & I just fell into the loop. I was even looking forward to hearing about side characters because they were SO GOOD.

Everyone, and i mean EVERYONE, needs a Holland in their life. Matter of fact, everyone needs an Ivy in their life too. It was so easy to connect with both characters and it was so well written that I had VISCERAL reactions to the emotions they were feeling. The character growth? Chef’s kiss. This isn’t a “spicy” book but lemme tell ya there were still some goooood scenes after that beautiful slow burn. I’m officially putting in a formal request to be their third.

With all that being said, if anyone needs me, i’ll be day dreaming of Holland and Ivy for the near future 🤪🫠

“I know you love a plan, so let’s make one.”

🪵The vibes:
- cozy lodge
- Descriptive settings
- Planner/organized FMC & Spontaneous MMC
- Grief/anxiety/depression rep
- Slate 🐶😭🖤

🪵 My thoughts:
This book had a cozy vibe the whole way through. The scenery descriptions were so beautiful. The characters had so much backstory and depth. Beatrice was such a highlight in this book. She was so sweet and such a lovely (and hilarious) mother figure to Holland and Ivy.

The bond, love, and feelings between Ivy and Holland -our main characters- happens in the span of a few days to a few weeks. This felt a little bit fast at moments, but I don’t notice or mind when it comes to a hallmark movie, so I tried to view it in the same lens of just enjoying the romance even though it felt a little quick at times. While their love came quick- I found Holland and Ivy very endearing together. I loved how she was the bubbly Lorelei personality to his serious, silent Luke Danes vibe. Ivy was such a spunk with a larger than life excitement for life. Seeing Holland melt for that was so sweet.

This book dealt with some very heavy topics- (check TW if you have concerns)- but can we just celebrate the fact that it addressed coping skills and therapy and communication. Also just acknowledging that no couple is perfect- it was super refreshing!

And last but not freaking least- the Spiderman discussions were my favorite element and made me smile so big.

I was so impressed with this debut novel and look forward to future books by Rachel.

Rachel LaBerge's debut is a delightful and poignant rom-com that stands out for its elegant prose, compelling structure, and the natural chemistry between the amazing characters!
.
The story introduces us to Ivy Lawson, a character so relatable and adorable that her thoughts resonate with the readers on a deeply personal level. Ivy's journey unravels against the breathtaking backdrop of The Emerald Canopy Lodge, turning what seems like a nightmare destination into a fascinating setting for a satisfying romance!
.
The author's competence to connect with the readers through Ivy's neurotic and overthinking tendencies is mind-blowing. Ivy becomes more than just a character; she becomes a mirror reflecting the anxieties and burdens that many readers carry! This connection creates a compulsive reading experience, where you can't help but cheer for Ivy as she navigates through the challenges thrown at her.
.
LaBerge crafts an intriguing romance between Ivy and Holland Holt, the reclusive owner of the lodge. The opposites attract dynamic adds a layer of allure and unpredictability to the plot! The unfolding of their relationship is a delightful journey, with each interaction revealing more about their characters and fostering an unspoken connection.
.
LaBerge's expert handling of weighty themes within the framework of a charming and spirited narrative cements this debut as an exceptional standout in the romance genre, deserving every one of its well-earned five stars.

this book was truly adorable! I LOVED holland + I thought the lodge setting was perfectly quaint. I related to Ivy in so many ways (especially that we are both criers) one of my favorite things had to be the frenchie slate! I love when pets are characters + we can see their personalities shine thru!

"Stop and take a breath...a real breath."

"My sister taught me this thing...she called them soothing moments...you basically stop and take in what's around you."

When we first meet Ivy and Holland in the very compassionate extremely slow burn romance A Lodge Affair by remarkable debut author Rachel LaBerge they are each lost in their own world of pain.

Ivy is trying to control her hurt from her no good boyfriend who cheated on her in their office in front of everyone. A born people pleaser, she finds comfort in making to do lists, investigating all possible outcomes for every trip whether it's a hike or a working vacation at the Emerald Canopy Lodge and she'll never complain to HR about the harassment from her now ex-boyfriend.

Holland thinks he's fooling everyone, including himself, that he's content as the brooding owner of the Lodge. The truth is he's barely holding on dealing with what feels like unsurmountable grief and guilt over the unexpected loss of a loved one.

Ivy has a near meltdown over missing boxes and Holland comes to her rescue. Soon they're hanging out with his adorable, attention grabbing French bulldog Slate. But as they flirt, fight over the best Spiderman, surprisingly Tom Holland isn't Holland's favorite, and share pinky swears, they still hold back knowing there's a time limit on this growing relationship.

It's a unique romance as Ivy and Holland are careful with intimacy. There's steam but it comes near the end, after the talks, the fights, the fears and after Holland is there for Ivy when she needs him most, "He looks at me like I'm enough."

This writer lets the characters and their love grow in what feels like a natural pace. I loved the respect that therapy is given to help them deal with issues. This romance is not a quick affair but a mature love story.

I received a free copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

🪵🤍"We're both jagged in our own ways. All I know is I feel better when I'm with him." 🤍🪵

Such a cute read. This had all the cozy, warm, sit by the fire vibes and more. And a seriously adorable frenchie!!Ivy's character was so relatable, from her incredible planning skills to her slightly overthinking nature, I just wanted to give her a big hug. But she was also so full of sunshine, her jokes had me snorting at my screen. Her relationship with Holland was adorable, they gave me Lorelei Gilmore and Luke vibes, I loved it. The way he was happy to just be in her presence and let her do anything and everything she wanted.🥹💗
Also, the Spider-Man references?? That was too good.

My reason for 3 stars and not 4 was the pacing. This all takes place within a week and some change, so the way the whole "long-distance" issue was resolved seemed a little flat to me. It kinda felt like a hallmark movie, which isn't bad, just not up my alley. Also the chemistry between Holland and Ivy. Part of the reason I was so excited to read was because one of the main tropes being advertised was "grumpyxsunshine", one of my absolute fav tropes. This didn't feel like it to me. Even though Holland was a little standoffish, he was so incredibly sweet to Ivy from the start. I was waiting for angst and some banter, and there wasn't any🧍🏽‍♀️. Maybe this is just the romantasy reader in me talking. But I digress. If you enjoy fluffy, rom-com, cabin in the woods vibes, this book is for you!🫡🤍

Thank you so much for this ARC Rachel LaBerge!! Congrats on the debut, and can't wait for what's to come.🤍

I got bored around the 25/30% mark and started skipping through it.

Too much internal dialogue, I guess. Their banter was meh, with a lack of humor or flirtiness. She has anxiety and has some unique quirks because of it, which she is self conscious about. Her anxiety was kinda a focus.

I just wasn’t connecting to the characters or the relationship-driven plot. There was some ex-boyfriend angst and a handsy colleague that promised to add some interest later in the book but I didn’t get that far. As I skipped through it, I ran into too much sexual content at the 50% mark so it’s easy to DNF.

However, if it didn’t cross my steam tolerance I bet the plot would pick up.

Content-
Language- occasional f-words. Maybe 1 per MMC POV chapter.
Substance abuse- she gets drunk one night and spends the night at his place.
Spice- explicit handsy scene at 50% when she’s drunk. Crude sexual terms that are relatively common in sex scenes. Sprinkled through the chapters are sideways references to his aroused state in his pants. That kind of content. I’m sure there will be sex scene(s) later on.
Cliffhanger- no. Standalone.
Cover- cute
POV- dual
Format- KU

We've all read a book and envisioned ourselves as the main character, right? Well, have you ever read a book and realized you ARE the main character? No, seriously. One of my favorite Ivy quotes was the following:
"I'd even considered moving somewhere much smaller. There'd still be a Target within driving distance, obviously, but change the scenery."
I read this book while under contract for a house. A house that was in a smaller town than I was used to, and one in which I specifically googled where the closest Target was..

Ivy is anxious, neurotic, and stubborn, but she is also resilient, strong, and kind. After catching her boyfriend, and colleague, cheating on her at their place of work, she travels to The Emerald Canopy Lodge for a work conference where she meets Holland, the brooding lodge owner with the adorable frenchie (seriously, Slate is the star of the show here).

This was such a fantastic read and I cannot recommend it enough. The romance was realistic, and it was only made better by the realistic hardships faced by both Ivy and Holland. I laughed, I cried, I hugged my own frenchie a little tighter. I cannot wait to read what LaBerge writes next!

Beta Read: I am soo proud of this book. Maybe I’m a bit biased, especially seeing this book in different stages and how Rachel grew as an author during the process. Ivy & Holland are the perfect pair for a grumpy sunshine romance.

The one piece that makes this book so special how Rachel creates so much relatability in Ivy. She’s a character we can all see a little of ourselves in and it’s what makes the slow burn romance with Holland so charming and heart warming.

Set in the Pacific Northwest, it feels like the perfect cozy read this winter!

A total must read if you love characters with solid character building!

✨ARC Review✨

4.5 ✨

GUYS...this was adorable! And for a debut novel??

The Spiderman references are really what sealed the deal for me.

This story was written beautifully and did I shed a few tears at the end? Yes, yes I did.
Now, normally I love stories that have that heavy drama and "grumpy" guys that are ~super grumpy. But here, it was lighter and it worked.

Ivy is constantly doubting herself and never truly feeling like she deserves good things. She's doesn't see how incredible she actually is. She's also just really going through it and it's totally relatable. I love how she cries over everything 'cause same. A softy for dogs...same. I think she was the perfect match for Holland, not Tom.

Holland is dreamy. I kind of pictured him like Luke from Gilmore Girls, just maybe a little less grumpy. Can we talk about how thoughtful this man is? The things he did for Ivy to make her comfy and feel loved was just...ugh, swoon worthy. He'd convince me to go on a hike, that's for sure. His storyline with Hazel, his sister, absolutely broke my heart. I was waiting for the big grand reveal of what happened and Rachel delivered! Also, him and his dog *insert heart eyes*

Ivy and Holland together were fun and super cute. I love that we really got to know them separately and together. It may have only been a few days/week but I felt like we knew them for a while. I love how they communicated and I just really thought they were adorable. They felt cozy. They were super supportive of each other and it was endearing.

This also really made me want to go to a lodge for vacation. I was really feeling all the vibes. It also had me wanting to try a peanut butter burger and butterscotch cake.

I also really love a good slow burn so even though we did get some kisses here and there, we all know what we really wanted. It felt right and worth the wait. And a round of applause for Holland for being respectful, just saying.

I really liked the overall storyline. I also liked the subplots with Jack and Royce. I said I like drama, so this was much needed for me. I think what would have brought this up to a full 5✨ for me would have been more *surprise surprise* drama, honestly. What if Jack showed up to make matters worse? What if there was a misunderstanding fight? NOT MISCOMMUNICATON, don't get my words twisted. I feel like I wanted more Holland telling emotional stories about Hazel because that GOT ME. I just needed MORE.

This had Hallmark but BETTER vibes and I was definitely enjoying it. If you want something light and cozy then you've come to the place.

4.5 stars! I really really loved this one! I found myself picking it up to read every chance I got. I absolutely adored the characters in this book. I really related to Ivy. Her type A personality & people pleasing ways really resonated with me. Also the way she was constantly apologizing for things out of her control. That is totally me, and I really related with her character. Holland was so swoon-worthy. I loved how he came across originally as just wanting to be left alone, but he was a total softy and so sensitive and just super sweet towards Ivy. The side characters were also so fun and very well developed. I loved Slate, Bea, and Viv. The setting of the PNW was so picturesque and I loved it. Such a well done debut novel! You will definitely want to add this to your TBR. Pub Day is Jan. 16! You don’t want to miss out on Holland and Ivy and their story.

ARC REVIEW ✨✨

This book gave “cozy, cuddled under a blanket in winter with hot chocolate and marshmallows” kind of vibe. It was the novel version of a Hallmark movie and I loved it!

I loved Ivy, and connected with her so much. She is strong, resilient and such a loving realistic character. She faces challenges and traumatic circumstances but still comes out on-top, better than ever! Holland was such a loveable male character, it warmed my heart to show a male character allowing himself to feel true emotions, he wasn’t afraid to show his hurt and pain. And it definitely didn’t make him any less of a man 🙌🏻

This book is so warming, by touching on topics such as grief, depression, anxiety and sheds it on a realistic light.

I’m so grateful to have been selected to read this ARC, and I can’t wait to read more heartwarming stories from Rachel LaBerge! ✨🤍

Debut novel 𝘼 𝙇𝙤𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝘼𝙛𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙧 by Rachel LaBerge is a slow burn rom-com set in the most picturesque setting! If you love the great outdoors and watching sunsets, don’t miss this one!

One mishap after another has a corporate city girl, Ivy, stuck at The Emerald Canopy Lodge longer than expected. Insert handsome lodge owner, Holland, and his French bulldog, Slate, and things start to get steamy.

When Ivy learns to let go of control and her ever pressing to-do list, she finds that fate may have lead her to her HEA, s’mores included!

I absolutely loved watching Ivy and Holland fall in love. While an insta-love story, there was no shortage of swoony moments!

If you enjoy:

🌲 Forced proximity
🌲 Grumpy/sunshine
🌲 Opposites attract
🌲 Slow burn
🌲 Nature/hiking

…be sure to check out this debut!

Ivy is such a relatable FMC, Royce is a fucking puke & Holland is just so perfectly imperfect. ✨

Title: A Lodge Affair By Rachel LaBerge

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

“A Lodge Affair" offers a delightful blend of grumpy sunshine and opposites-attract romance. This sweet and down-to-earth tale follows two individuals grappling with past traumas as they navigate unexpected feelings for each other.

Ivy Lawson, a lover of to-do lists and brunch, finds herself thrust into an unexpected role of leading a high-profile client event at The Emerald Canopy Lodge after discovering her long-term boyfriend's infidelity.

Despite her initial reluctance, Ivy soon discovers unexpected charm in the lodge and its owner, Holland Holt, a reserved man with a mysterious past. As Ivy navigates mishaps and extends her stay, she begins to reassess her rigid approach to life, while Holland grapples with his own challenges.

Their paths intertwine, forcing Ivy to confront her need for control and Holland to confront his past, leading to a journey of self-discovery and unexpected romance.

One thing I adored in this book was the communication between the two main characters. Opening up to one another and building that friendship before going into anything romantic. Oh and of course Slate the frenchie!

Set against cozy night settings, the book provides a realistic and relatable portrayal of romance.

However, readers sensitive to distressing scenes may benefit from reviewing trigger warnings before diving into this charming read.

I'm so happy A Lodge Affair is my first read of 2024!

This book made me laugh and smile and I even cried - TWICE. Everything was just so sweet and heartwarming. I was internally squealing when the title of the book and the pinky promise from the cover both happened.

There's a discussion on which Spiderman is the best (obviously it's Tom Holland), a cute Frenchie named Slate (it made me think of me and my new dog), and I love that Ivy calls Holland "Holland-not-Tom."

Oh, and can't forget about the yummy sounding butterscotch cake. I immediately sent a message to Rachel asking if a recipe exists anywhere and it DOES and I CANT WAIT TO GET IT.

Trigger warning: Sexual Assault
There is a grief storyline as well

Thank you so much to Rachel LaBerge for the ARC!! Congrats on your debut!

HOW is this book a debut??!?!

Ivy is working at the same company as her d-bag ex, and even though they’re supposed to travel to a work event together, Ivy manages to travel solo for the event. She’s got everything under control, until she doesn’t. The otherwise shy and reclusive lodge owner, Holland, saves the day and invites her to drinks after the event. Meanwhile, there’s a sleezy exec at the company holding the event, Royce, who is basically a walking HR nightmare, hitting on young employees and making the female race cringe in disgust. Ivy is leaving, and then she’s not, and Holland is attracted to her like a moth to a flame. I’m going to pause there with the story recap, just to say - there is hiking, there’s a French Bulldog, there are s’mores, and so many more swoony moments I could barely handle.

I giggled. I grinned like a dufus. I got super angry. I cried. I empathized with and saw so much of myself in Holland and Ivy. I want to reread this book, and I’m also upset I’ll never read it for the first time again. It’s so, so good yall. If you’re looking for an escape to the Pacific Northwest woodsy atmosphere, with a story overflowing with heart, I cannot recommend A Lodge Affair enough.

Thank you to the author for an advanced review copy (and of course, our queen of indie authors @reads.with.kae for putting this on my radar).

The big city girl and the broody, small town lodge owner. Holland & Ivy are so different, yet are the absolute perfect pair. I adore this book so much–I couldn’t put it down! Ivy’s anxieties? I felt them. Girl, you are not alone. I share some of the same thoughts, and I loved watching her work through those anxieties and seeing Holland be there for her through them. Holland’s got his own anxieties and pain he’s working through; his story broke my heart. Tears were shed. And can we talk about how Holland swoops in to save the day? SWOON. The backstory of the lodge? Be still my heart. Ivy’s ex-boyfriend? Yeah, he can go jump off a cliff, along with another character that I won’t name because they don’t deserve that. (can you tell I don’t like them?) Viv is the absolute best friend, and I love her. I want a friend like her. This story has all the feels, and I am absolutely invested in the characters and the lodge. I really enjoyed this one, and I cannot wait to see what Rachel writes next–this was a beautiful debut!!

✨️ARC Review- A Lodge Affair by @rachellabergeauthor ✨️

A cozy, heart-warming, and slow-burning love story!

I had a wonderful time reading Ivy and Holland's story. Both characters have been through so much, and this book is about their ups and downs in their building relationship.

Rachel is fantastic at setting the gorgeous natural landscape in the story. I'm left wishing I could book a room at the Emerald Canopy Lodge and hangout with Bea for a bit!

This book is perfect for fans of sweet, contemporary romance. I will state to check TWs as there might be a couple of things readers could be sensitive to.

Happy reading 💖

- Dual POV
- Opposites Attract
- Grumpy x Sunshine

Trigger/Content Warnings:
- Language
- Sexual Content

My Thoughts:
As a frenchie mom of 2, Slate was my favorite character. 🐶 Apart from Slate, this book really wasn't for me. I just couldn't connect with the characters and the romance felt a bit forced. I dont typically like instalove, especially when there is no background or character development. I think this would be great for other readers who like fluffy romance, but it just wasn't a good fit for me and i put it down a little less than halfway through. Thank you Booksirens for the opportunity to read and review this advanced copy.

What an absolute pleasure this book is!

I loved the setting, the character dynamics, the meet-cute and swoony days that followed, and the slow-burn romance that truly pays off.

Read if you need a bingeable, slow-burn, grumpy/sunshine, lodge-setting romantic comedy.

Thank you, Rachel Laberge, for trusting me with your fabulous story!
