With that out of the way, let's begin. This is the blah, blah, blah section. You know the author’s “glory page” where he gets to tell you grandiose things about himself and the deeper meaning of his work. Whatever.
I write books. Seriously, that's what I get to do every day. It's great.
I have been fortunate to author some that have achieved bestseller status, including The Hunters Series of mystery suspense thrillers. It took me a lot of years to get to that point, but I wouldn't trade any of them for a minute. I love writing books for you and the journey that brought me here.
I am a native of the south, Georgia specifically. I spent much of my life there, but I have lived in many other places as well. We moved a lot when I was young. Eventually, we ended up back in Georgia in my teens where I finished school and went to work.
I wanted to write from an early age. A really long time ago, when I was still a young police officer in Georgia, I was writing short stories in my spare time and sending them off to magazines. One day I received one back in the mail.
Life Happened
Attached to it was a nice handwritten letter from an editor (this was long before the days of email and texts). The story manuscript was folded and smudged, and there were coffee cup rings on the edges of a couple of pages, which told me they had actually read it, maybe discussed it around an editorial table, or just used it to sop up the coffee.
In her letter, the editor said a lot of things that I don't remember, but it was not the usual form letter that I was accustomed to receiving. It was original and personal.
She said they liked my story, had strongly considered it for publication, but that it wasn't quite believable. Disappointed as I was, I was struck by her last words to me..."Don't stop writing. You're good at this. We almost bought this one."
I remember staring at that a long time. Then I folded it up and tucked it in a file and...stopped writing.
I wish I could tell you a different story, but I can't. I stopped writing for many years.
There were lots of reasons. Yes, I was disappointed, but the letter that should have encouraged me not to give up was forgotten.
Life happened. Dreams of writing were pushed aside by other things...important things.
Mostly I needed money for my young family. In the 1970s, police officers in Georgia were not paid a lot even by the standards of the day. I worked part-time jobs whenever I wasn't working at the police department. Many weeks I had no days off at all.
I'm not unhappy that I did my best to take care of my family. It was the right thing to do and working for them was the joy of my life.
Children grew up; then grandchildren came along. More life happened.
Then...The Internet Appeared
Out of the blue, this thing called the internet appeared and guess what. I was at a point in life when I didn't need to work part-time jobs every spare minute of the day. I could write again.
It's different these days. I can publish a book whether I convince an agent or editor to read it or not. I am an independent writer/publisher, an “Indie.”
It’s a partnership between us, writer and reader, and it's a marvelous thing.
Don't be a Follower -- Make Your Dream Real
It took many years to get here. Life is like that, with lots of twists and turns and surprises. I like it that way.
Now, I write every day, so here's my parting advice. Don’t follow your dreams. Followers get nowhere except up the backside of the person in front.
Forgotten Sins is different than all the other books in The Hunters series in that it’s divided into three distinct parts. Part one: A Cold Trail (chapters 1—25) is set in the present. Part two: A Bad Beginning (chapters 26—36) is set in the past, the action having taken place a decade or more earlier than that in part one. Part three: Sins (chapters 37—61) is again set in the present. I’ve read many authors of mystery/thrillers who tried using this technique, but Glenn Trust is one of the few that have used it successfully. Actually, part two is like in-depth backstory that we need to know to understand what takes place in part one.
This book is different in another way too. In all the other books in this series, I had no problem with deciding who I wanted to see win and who I wanted to see lose. Not the case with Forgotten Sinners. After reading part two, I found myself wanting to see the “bad guy” complete his mission of revenge and escape punishment. Of course, with the Hunters on his trail, that wasn’t in the cards. Still, I would never have imagined the “bad guy” going down the way he did, but I can understand it because all those confronting him were innocent and he couldn’t bring himself to harming them.
The Hunters is an awesome series, and I hope that there will be more books in the series to come, although Trust gives us no sign that there are more to come. Fortunately, Glenn Trust has more series for me to devour. I’m going to start reading my way through his Sole Justice series next.
This was a story that is impossible to describe. It was fantastically written by this talented author, however, the content was heartbreaking, shocking, and unbelievably tragic. The unimaginable, unspeakable, and beyond horrific torture and tragedies that these families (minus the abusers themselves) lived through, what others turned a blind eye to, was beyond comprehension. It's horrible enough that there are so many people suffering from abuse, but something to this extent.... there are no words. It's certainly not a story that you'll want to miss. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
I hope that there will be many more stories in this fantastic series!
Trust has been writing "the Hunters" series for nine books now. While - in my opinion - none have had the impact of the initial volume, all have been fine reads. I'm this, the 9th book in the series detailing the workings of the OSI (Office of Special Investigations) in Georgia, he's done something I sincerely admire: he's written a book that completely follows in the series, but which stands fully on its own.
Said another way, you could pick up "Forgotten Sins" and fall right into the world of his characters as if you had been reading from the first volume. And you'd find yourself compelled to get into the whole series!
A very difficult story to get through, 2 young boys constantly abused by their father with a very weak mother who was also abused. Resulting in the oldest boy coming back with a vengeance when he was older to find the younger bro was severely crippled by the men in the family. His goal to take meter out his form of justice to the ones in the town who turned a blind eye to the cruelty. The underlying message I sincerely hope is learned by all who read this book.
Any story about child abuse is a difficult story to read. This one is particularly difficult. The indifference and fear the townspeople felt of Ace and Ox was somewhat understandable but totally despicable. The concept of the Hunters is interesting and makes a good read. A different story without the child abuse could have a better, more interesting plot and would be worth reading this author again.
This story could have been ripped from the headlines. I was in tears a few places in this story. It was hard to read but well told. And one might think it was too over the top but these horrors go on every day in lots of places. See something say something sounds good but until one is placed in that situation it is hard to decide what to do.
This is one of the more interesting books I’ve read in a while. A true portrayal of life in a small rural area. It reaches your heart & makes you wonder about yourself. What would you do?
At first there was only concern by the wife when the Buxtons went missing. But then the sheriff disappeared when it went looking for them. Meanwhile others are also disappearing. But why. 'The Hunters' of OSI are brought in to investigate. An entertaining modern mystery
Another excellent murder mystery by the author Glenn Trent. The Hunters are dispatched to rural Georgia to investigate the disappearance of three local men. When their bodies are found it's apparent they died a grizzly death, the search is on for a brutal killer.
Graphic detail, not for the squeamish and probably not for nighttime reading.
This is the third book by Glenn Trust that I've read, once again it fully deserves 5* rating.
