3.5 stars in that I read through all five books (with the exception of fast forwarding through book 2) and st the end of each book, something drove me to keep reading…but I also really couldn’t wait to get it over with.

Plot was solid, there was a bit of mystery, a solid enemy to rally against. Started as an Academy bully romance and there was the trials, the running, and the hiding arcs. If you suspended reality and kinda hovered high level, the books are interesting and you want to find out what happens.

The characters are not cringy, the FMC’s not annoying (much), and the MMCs were distinctive enough, although you can really tell who’s the author’s favourite. They had good repartee and the FMC was able to convince me she genuinely didn’t care for one more than the others. She stood up and put an end to the fighting and didn’t allow some of the men to go too far with their insults.

Cohen and Kohaku. Thank god for the two of them because Kohaku gave me what I’m looking for when I’m reading unrealistic novels about one woman and her harem of men, and that is devotion. Single minded, dedicated devotion to protecting Ro. Cohen on the other hand, gave all the green flags with his support and belief in Ro. Although we never did get to find out his story/secret…it felt like there were inklings of a revenge plot brewing somewhere and it kinda got swept under the rug.

While it was clear which MMC the author preferred, it was also painfully clear that the author hated the FMC. I couldn’t begin to count how many times the FMC had a legitimate, reasonable reaction to being put in a situation that the OG MMCs created and everyone around her (with the exception of Cohen and Kohaku) gaslit the shit out of her.

It has literally been five books of me raging every time one of her friends or her MMCs brush her off by saying she’s not being logical or reasonable and she LETS THEM.

I swear I kept reading at one point to see some grovel but that NEVER happened.

I mentioned in my review of the third book that it was not ok that the FMC cheated but I have to admit, I felt a lot more chemistry between her, Cohen, and Kohaku than with the other four men. Not an excuse by any means for cheating, but there were many moments where I had to ask myself: why is she still with Fielder, Gideon, Hardin and Ezra?

Like they say they all love her, but if it wasn’t for the literal words, I could not pinpoint any single action that proved they loved her. They constantly undermined her decisions, did not respect her boundaries, and treated her like she was a naive idiot when she was the most powerful and has the most knowledge literally within her fingertips.

Kohaku. What the eff? I felt like I was reading bad fanfiction. It was some weird mishmash of adult Shippou from Inuyasha and Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. It felt weird, and I know he was a kitsune but it felt kinda felt like cultural appropriation.

Five books led up to the most anti climatic take down of the enemy. That’s it. Five books. And the end battle was like…a chapter.

And part of the solution was bringing in someone who bullied and almost killed Ro and showing her where they were hiding? That part rubbed me the wrong way SO HARD. The boys did not care about Ro’s trauma, did not care about Morgan’s role in her almost assault. There was NO punishment for Morgan whatsoever and it left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I don’t know. At this point I spent a week reading these five books. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy my time reading it, but towards the end, it did feel like I was trying to finish it out of principle. It was like meeting someone during an awkward party and you’re hanging out because you don’t know anyone else, but you also know you’re never going to call them or think about them again once you go back home.

I feel burnt out from the process and really excited to start something new.

This was a wonderfully satisfying ending to a really enjoyable series. I loved how it all came together and Ro gaining ber confidence.

Great finale

Excellent series. RH with lots of magic, intrigue, fighting evil and a darn good storyline. The series starts with bullying, mean girls and becomes enemies to lovers, in a university setting. Absent parents, evil parents and a few loving parents. The heroine and her bestie are relatable and heart warming. This series has a little something for everyone. The few mistyped words only remind you that the majority aren't.
