Rate this book
One potato, two potato, three potato-four! Introducing the next book in our thriving 101 series, 101 Things to do With a Potato. Each year, the average American consumes close to 140 pounds of potatoes. With that in mind, nothing seems better than a cookbook featuring one of America's major food staples-the potato! "Mrs. 101" Stephanie Ashcraft has ingeniously created simple recipes that take potatoes to a whole new level. Try a Breakfast Burrito in the morning, sample the Sausage Corn Chowder for lunch, have the Italian Potato Chips as a mid-afternoon snack, for dinner try the Potato Crust Pizza, and then savor the Sweet Potato Cheesecake for dessert! Stephanie Ashcraft, author of the New York Times best-selling 101 Things to do With a Cake Mix, is a full-time mom who has created and collected recipes for years.

Who knew just how versatile the potato could be? This is a great book with clear and basic instructions for any novice cook. (By the way, what does an Irish 7-course meal consist of? A six-pack and a potato!) ha ha

101 Things to Do with a Potato. The sections are: Soups & Stews, Salads, Main Dishes, Side Dishes, Mashed Potatoes, Fries & Wedges, Breakfast, and Bread & Desert

I was surprised that they didn’t have my Irish Gram’s favorite in here, boiled potatoes. :)

Appreciate the ingenuity but what cookbook doesn't have pictures?? Especially for the ones that are more technical (mashed potato pizza dough or gnocchi), people need to know they are doing it right. Also, what better way to entice people to try innovative potato recipes than with pictures??

I didn't care for it -- too much addding soup cans to the mix, but the one thing I did try, Easy Hash Browns was very good, so I recommend taking out the soup and using the recipe as is.

Mom, this book is so good that you must stay away from it, seeing as you've divorced yourself from spuds.

Everybody else:
I found a copy of this brief book at Little Luxuries and I paged through it on my lunch hour. The recipes, proper potato selection hints and retro book design were all appealing/useful. The recipes were creative and and appetizing for the most part (save for coconut chocolate brownies made with mashed potatoes-- yuck). It's worth a read.

I can't get the idea of sweet potato cheesecake out of my head.

*I feel a bit guilty for even reviewing this.

The 101 Things to Do Cookbook Series makes a great gift for the beginning cook. Each one contains quick, easy and impressive dishes to make. Great step by step instructions, which is very helpful because there are no pictures. At the beginning are helpful hints, which is almost the best part of the cookbook.
