This book never loses sight of the main thing: We are forgiven on account of Jesus' death and resurrection. That changes everything.

The book tackles all the common questions pastors get about forgiveness. "What if they don't repent?" "What if they won't forgive me?" What about "forgiving myself?" "Does forgiveness negate consequences?" "Can you have forgiveness without reconciliation?" "What about abuse?" "What about the unforgiveable sin?"

Each chapter concludes with a really helpful, 'How does this apply to me?' section, as well as guided prayer prompts. Each chapter BEGINS with original hymn verses that address the topic of forgiveness.

I sense that I will be using this book A LOT as a pastor. I marked mine up to the gills, and I am am going to order a second copy posthaste to help someone that has been visiting me recently with feelings of hatred and anger.

There were times that the book was redundant. For example, Psalm 103 was cited many time, as was John 3:16–18. Each time these passages were written out entirely, rather than just 'cited.' I think it "works" for the book, but if you blitz through reading this book, you'll be skimming over Bible passages you read in previous chapters a lot.

With that said, they all apply well.
I loved this book.
Pastors, this book ABSOLUTELY belongs in your "toolbox" (aka, 'library').

Many, if not all people, would benefit from the advice and comfort in this book. It addresses complex relationships. Backed by Scripture references, 18 chapters cover Christ’s input on valid questions we ask in this world that’s broken by sin. In one particular chapter, eight forms of harmful behaviors are addressed; yet, perhaps less-common spiritual abuse happens to be missing. One of my favorite parts of the book design is its poetry, suggested for use as hymns. My pastor is utilizing the book and this opportunity during Lent services for preaching, singing; as well as teaching Bible studies. This book is for anyone who
• wonders about what it means to forgive and be forgiven
• lovingly has offered forgiveness which has been ignored or rejected
• has been accused of being unforgivable
• longs to be forgiven
• is enduring (or has suffered) consequences of their own sin and that of others.
The peace of forgiveness in Christ is a gift for all who humbly receive it with gratitude.

Well this one took me a long time to finish but it was well worth the read. Started as a small group bible study at church and I fell behind in the reading but I was able to take away so many things for my own personal life and relationships by reading this book. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to strengthen their relationship not only with other people in their lives, but also our wonderful savior Jesus.

"In your struggle to forgive, He is there with you to forgive ypu again and again, to strengthen your faith, to enable you to do what you can never do on your own- forgive as God forgave you. In your journey, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus."
