PLEDGE is HOT y’all! Perfect for LGBTQ readers looking for some portal fantasy with enemies to lovers!🙌🏻

I am obsessed with the captive/captor trope so when I saw it put together with soulmates I was screaming!!😍 there is nothing I love more than lots of groveling and enemies becoming lovers in a forced proximity situation! My fave character is without a doubt Olympio. I love it how he is utterly obsessed with Gabe and will do anything to have him accept their bond and be by his side… he’s not only the dominant alpha male, but also a Prince 👑 a must read for fans of steamy portal fantasy with the soul mates trope!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review

MM Fated Mate Romance

DNF @ 65% although it should be noted I have been skimming since 28% so I am not going to be rating this.

This was recently a freebie but after starting this version I found out via my buddy read that there are actually 3 versions of this book. We have this one aka the original, a daylight edition that has no spice and is for all ages and a dark edition. I was only 14% in at that point and switched to the dark version however after skimming through the chapters I already read, I found absolutely no difference. I also skimmed through them both up to the 65% I ultimately stopped at and there was still no difference. I really would have loved to see the dubcon I was promised but there were no actual sex scenes of Gabe and Ollie up until this point except with other people so maybe that’s why it wasn’t there? 🤷🏻‍♀️

There’s nothing wrong with this book exactly and I actually thought the premise was kind of cool but I don’t feel any connection between these two despite the fact they are soulmates. Ollie aka Olympio is a demon prince of some kind that has been alive for 2.5 thousand years and 20 years ago felt the soulmate bond awaken within him when Gabe was born. This sounds creepy because basically Ollie has been watching over Gabe since he was a baby but there was no romantic or sexual attraction there until he was of age because the bond would not let it happen. Gabe is human, lost his parents in a plane crash and has been on the path of self destruction ever since but unbeknownst to him has Ollie watching over him and basically protecting him from himself. Ollie puts himself into Gabe’s life once he’s of age and they are in the same frat. Ollie thought it would be easy to woo his soulmate but unfortunately Gabe is drawn to his frat bro Alex who is a total douchebag. For at least the first 30-35% of this book we have to watch Gabe make terrible decisions and because he’s salivating over shithead Alex, there is no relationship or friendship development between him and Ollie.

Something happens and Ollie whisks Gabe off to his planet basically kidnapping him and while I understood Gabe’s fear and anger, his hatred toward Ollie made their already slow burn of a relationship even slower. Ollie had been away from his kingdom for years looking after Gabe but once he returns his close friend and sex buddy Vass jumps into his arms and tries to ride his dick. Ollie almost gives into her but because it would sever the bond decides against it. We are now up to about 40% and besides the scenes with other people, there has been no development or sex scenes between our MCs so I found it extremely weird for Gabe to suddenly (we’re talking overnight) feel things for Ollie. I just wasn’t buying it and truthfully I just don’t care enough to continue this to find out if they make it work. I am about 99% sure that Vass along with some other assholes in Ollie’s kingdom will sabotage something and I just can’t find the will to continue.

I think this had potential but I just didn’t much care for the direction the author went in. No rating because I skimmed for most of it. 😴

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’m increasing this to a 4.5 because I’ve been thinking about Ollie and Gabriel all day 😂

As I find with all fantasy it takes me a bit of extra time to get into it but when I did, I did! From 15% until the end I basically devoured the entire book.

The author managed to build the world for you gradually so you don’t have all the info dumping that’s common in fantasy. I really loved that Ollie had to put some work in to get his soulmate to love him back and Gabriel wasn’t too quick to forgive.

Both MC’s had really distinct voices and overall this book was a lot of fun. The side characters were well developed and I’m definitely excited to see where this series will go.

My very minor pet peeve in this book is that both MC’s ‘giggle’ frequently and I find it a bit infantilising.

I’ve been looking to delve more into queer fantasy and this was thoroughly enjoyable to read 😊

This was such a great read! Perfect for lovers of mythology, urban fantasy -ish, royals, frat boys, and cute romance that will have you all mushy.. oh! And spice.

Pledge is a m/m fantasy romance focusing on Ollie and Gabe, they’re so adorable together! The two soulmates have to work on a lot before they give into their feelings, it was so beautiful to see how the author weaved their romance and the world as well. Ollie literally saved Gabe from a dark space, the mental health rep and grieving was well represented by the author. Gabe loses his parents and thru this he loses himself. We see the secret identity concept when Ollie disguises himself to save Gabe and bring him to Safaera to help him heal.

This enemies to lovers, slow burn fantasy romance will have you rooting for them! I enjoyed the unraveling of events but most of all the characters. Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy.

All opinions are my own.

That feeling when in your Romantasy read the college frat boy becomes the demon prince’s consort…

This book. THIS BOOK! I have my heart dipped in sugar by how much I enjoyed it. Pledge is the perfect combination of two things I love: college romance and fantasy romance. It unites contemporary, portal fantasy and demons with all their lore—the concept of soulmates, for example, and the existence of shadow daddies. These are all elements I love, and what made it even more special is that they were delivered in a queer perspective.

Pledge is an M/M romance in which Olympio (aka Ollie) discovers that his soulmate is an ordinary human, Gabriel—heir to a fortune, frat boy, and a young man who is not in the best of places after the loss of his parents. Ollie watches over Gabriel over the years, and when the opportunity presents itself, he saves him. Except…Gabriel sees it more as a kidnapping. Can you even blame him? He’s suddenly in the demon world of Sefaera with a near stranger who happens to be a prince and happens to be his soulmate. It’s not easy to swallow. (Please, why does this never happen in real life?)

I loved the dynamic between the two. My friends who started reading it before me told me I would love it, because the banter gave major Red White and Royal Blue vibes—and coincidentally, that happens to be one of my favorite books ever. Indeed, I ended up really loving the book the moment we switched into the demon realm and got to see that “enemies” to lovers slow burn play out.

Though the plot was intriguing, what with the whole threat to Ollie’s throne, this is more of a character and romance driven book. Not complaining, because those are often my favorites! I definitely recommend it if you’re in the mood for a queer romantasy like that. What’s great is that the ending wraps up nicely, so even if it were to turn into a series (eyes suspiciously), it reads like a standalone, which means that those of you who dread cliffhangers can also dive into this without a problem.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

WOWWW Y’ALL—Pledge is new all-time favorite m/m romance for me. This isn’t a short book by any means, so I was shocked at how fast the pages flew by—the story is completely captivating from the first page and I was losing sleep and neglecting responsibilities to finish this beauty.

My favorite thing about it was the ever-present idea that soulmate love is not instantaneous, but rather it is earned through trust and respect. Gabe and Ollie’s love took my breath away and this totally unique story is one I’ll not soon forget.

Pledge is absolutely PERFECT for those who loved the slowburn tension and build up of Red, White, & Royal Blue as well as the deep connection found in The Song of Achilles!

What to Expect:
—Portal Fantasy
—Captor/Captive
—Touch Him and D!e
—Palace Intrigue
—Ancient Magic
—Fated Mates
—Lust and Loyalty

Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed above are entirely my own.

This book really was a good time! The author did an amazing job of portraying an MM romance in all its spicy glory without feeling like it was fetishizing gay sex. The characters were fun to watch, the world was fascinating and beautiful, and the plot moved in a way that kept me turning the page!

This is NOT a highbrow fantasy masterclass of a novel, this is a quick, sexy, delight of a book that passes all the vibe checks! I hope the author publishes more in this universe soon! 10/10 recommendation!

PLEDGE gave me a cotton candy sugar rush while I was reading it. It wasn't the most action packed fantasy read, but the adorable romance more than made up for it. If you're looking for a very character driven romance read with a queer main couple, soulmates, touch him and 💀 vibes and a bi king shadow daddy, look no further!

The union of our world and fantasy was such a clever way of showing the contrast between Gabriel and Olympio. Gabe is a frat boy spiraling after the loss of his parents, Ollie is a demon prince and heir to the throne with the best intentions and a habit of making a mess. They couldn't be more different (and indeed, Gabe initially does not take well to the soulmate news), but it made seeing them slowly find common ground even sweeter. The forced proximity and slow burn was so well done, and I also appreciated the found family dynamic Gabe establishes for himself.

My only "critique" is that I would have liked to see a few more significant moments that solidified Gabe's change of attitude toward Ollie, and I also would have enjoyed going a bit more in depth on the mystery of who was behind the assassination attempts.

Overall, a super enjoyable read! Not sure if this will be part of a series but there are some prequel novellas. Pledge itself wraps up nicely so it's a perfect read to enjoy as a standalone.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

I absolutely LOVED this book so much!! Gabriel and Olympio were a beautiful couple and it was just an amazing book. I even cried when I finished it (and that doesn’t happen often) I was just so happy and sad at the same time. Happy that they got there happily ever after, but also sad that I won’t be able to get to read about them ever again for the first time. Unless this becomes a series!! No but like seriously, if this does become a series, I will actually scream!! Loved it and highly recommend!

ARC REVIEW—⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overview:

Gabe and Olympio are soulmates—something the demon prince Olympio has known since Gabe was born, though the magic that binds them never ventured into romantic or sexual territory until Gabe “came of age,” something based on a life changing experience that thrusts him into adulthood. For Gabe, this happens when he loses his parents in a plane crash at nineteen years old and begins a downward spiral of hard partying and self-destruction, which Olympio saves him from by pretending to be a member of his college fraternity and kidnapping him back to the demon realm Sefaera. He thinks that being “where he belongs” will help Gabe to heal and accept his place at Olympio’s side. Unfortunately, Gabe doesn’t think much of Olympio or being the ruler of a whole world, and wants nothing more than to go home.

Until he doesn’t. But it’s not that simple.

Review:

It took me a bit to get around to writing an actual review because trying to get my thoughts to say anything other than WOW was hard. Eleanor Rose has woven a masterpiece of a fantasy romance, and I can already tell I’ll be going back for a second read (probably more!).

Pledge is a slow burn, enemies to lovers romance where the fated mates struggle to come to terms with their pairing—Gabe, because he doesn’t want to be a part of Sefaera and hates Olympio for trying to force him into this life, and Olympio, because he has to give up the woman he’s been in love with for over two thousand years to be with Gabe, or he’ll break the magic that protects the Royal line from being overthrown. It’s easy to blame Olympio for their initial struggles since he can’t seem to help being a little extra in his pursuit of Gabe, but Gabe’s self-destruction boner kind of forces Olympio’s hand.

Thank Talaea (IYKYK) that Olympio’s playful but wise and blunt sister is there to knock some sense into both of them about their behavior and understanding of each other. With Ari’s help, they begin to see each other for who they are underneath the layers of self-defense and internal conflict and realize that, just maybe, fate knew what it was doing when it bound them together.

The romance between the two of them evolves and grows so much through the book. Even after their romance actually begins, they both know that love isn’t always enough, and they have to work through the things still preventing them from consummating their bond, which is the only way Olympio can be crowned king and Gabe made immortal to rule at his side.

Add in a douche bag frat brother with self-loathing, internalized homophobia, jealous exes, a “Little Finger”-esque meddling advisor, and a series of assassination attempts to keep Olympio from claiming the throne, and Pledge has everything I would hope for in a fantasy romance that crosses our world with one of magic and mystery.

How do you cope when your soulmate is a literal demon from another world, and you're just a rich frat boy?

Gabe didn't have much when his parents unexpectedly died–just grandiose wealth, fame and reputation, and a chip on his shoulder. All he wanted to do was join his father's fraternity, and follow his parents' last wishes. But there's something about one of his fraternity brothers, Ollie, that he just can't put his finger on.

Olympio, demon prince of Safaera, has waited over two thousand years for his soulmate to be born. Spending the last twenty years watching over Gabriel, it's finally time for them to meet and complete the bond. The only problem is that Gabe seems less interested in getting to know Olympio, and far more interested in partying. When Gabe gets into trouble, Olympio has no choice but to bring his soulmate back to his home world, against his will. Will this solidify their bond, or might it be irrevocably broken?

I love a good soulmate story, especially when at least one of the pair is frankly disinterested; that is clearly the case for Gabe and Ollie. At first I was really annoyed at how Ollie was treating Gabe, basically imprisoning him yet unwilling to understand Gabe's resentment. Thankfully, just when I felt I'd had enough, Ollie had a Beauty and the Beast-style turnaround, proving himself to be just as insecure and unsure as his mate. I really appreciated how much consent was important to Ollie, especially considering their fated bond, and the spice level was through the roof. Both boys were able to be vulnerable with each other, and the world building was fantastic. I'd love to read more about Safaera in the future.

Unfortunately, I felt that Gabe's character growth was forced (not the character himself, but the storytelling). He went from detached party boy, to angry prisoner (kinda), to… loving and appreciative soulmate? It felt a little quick, with little time spent with Ollie to really change his mind and solidify their relationship. Just a lot of people telling Gabe how great the prince was. Also, for Ollie's part, his life in the meantime felt flat. Sure, there was the occasional and random assassination attempt, and his best-friend-turned-scorned-former-lover's jealousy was palpable, and the fact that Ollie didn't see it was idiotic. After the final problem was overcome (rather easily), everything flitted to a very Happily Ever After with seemingly no worry about future attempts on the prince's life.

Overall, I give this book three and a half stars. I would recommend it if you like spicy MM romance with a twist of the supernatural. If you're looking for something with more depth and stronger storytelling, this might not be for you.

I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review.

DNF.

This was recommended to me as a book with great character growth and... I just don't know what that person was smoking. This had no reasonable character growth at all. The world building was basically non-existent, the characters' motivations and behaviors were all over the damn place and rarely made sense. And the whole "he just took over my mind and made me do things against my will" was fully just glossed over. I mean... is that actually a forgivable offense? Because... not to me. I could probably rant for a lot longer about this, but I think I'm just more mad that someone inflated my expectations and this book did not even come close to living up to them. So... that's partly on me.

In "Pledge," Eleanor Rose meticulously crafts a narrative that is as much a celebration of destiny and passion as it is a poignant exploration of fear, self-discovery, and the tumultuous road to acceptance. This fantasy romance novel, resonating with old Hollywood glamour and emotional depth, serves not just as an escape into the magical realm of Sefaera but also as a mirror reflecting our own world's complexities, prejudices, and the eternal quest for true connection.

Rose's narrative is a slow-burning fuse, a characteristic hallmark of the most tantalizing and enduring romances. The 'enemies to lovers' trope is reimagined through the protagonists, Gabe and Olympio, entwined by fate but separated by a chasm of personal demons and centuries-old resistance. Gabe’s reluctance is rooted in his aversion to the very world he's destined to join, while Olympio grapples with relinquishing a millennia-old love—a sacrifice demanded by the same magic that shields the Royal lineage. Their romance is an intricate dance, shadowed by their internal conflicts, yet illuminated by the sporadic flare of undeniable attraction.

One cannot help but recall the allure of old Hollywood in the stolen moments between Gabe and Olympio. Their interactions brim with a tension that is almost palpable, evoking the smoldering looks and unspoken desires of a bygone cinematic era. Consider the scene where Gabriel confesses, “I don’t know how to deal with the fact that I’m scared to stay here, but I’m also scared to go home.” The vulnerability cascading from these words captures a universal fear of the unknown, making their magical dilemma achingly relatable. The ensuing closeness between the characters, charged with anticipation and longing, is both tender and tempestuous, reflecting the classic romanticism that once dominated the silver screen.

A standout character, Ari—Olympio's sister—injects wisdom and much-needed clarity into the narrative. Her interventions are crucial, guiding both men through their labyrinth of emotions and misconceptions. She is the catalyst for their evolution, compelling them to peer beneath their facades and recognize the authenticity of their bond. Through her, Rose emphasizes the transformative power of honest reflection and the courage inherent in confronting one's truths.

"Pledge" isn’t merely a fantastical love story; it’s a testament to the intricate layers of relationship dynamics. The protagonists learn that love, in all its intensity, isn't a panacea. Their journey towards consummating their bond and fulfilling their destinies is riddled with obstacles—both external and internal. Rose skillfully interweaves elements of danger and political intrigue—manifested in assassination attempts and sinister advisers—to amplify the stakes, ensuring the narrative pulsates with urgency and suspense.

Moreover, the novel doesn't shy away from examining darker themes. The character of the 'douche bag frat brother' is a stark reminder of the insidious nature of internalized homophobia and self-loathing—a relevant commentary in any era. By juxtaposing this world of magic and royal lineage with such profoundly human experiences and emotions, Rose achieves a narrative resonance that transcends the confines of genre.

In conclusion, "Pledge" by Eleanor Rose is a masterful tapestry of fantasy, romance, and introspective bravery. Its old Hollywood vibes are a nod to an era of forbidden loves and smoldering glances, while its contemporary themes speak to the timeless struggle for acceptance and understanding. The novel, with its rich, magical lore and multifaceted characters, invites readers not just to fantasize, but to reflect—on love, on life, and on the often terrifying act of baring one's soul. It's a pledge to the enduring power of story, and a promise that complex characters with intricate relationships will always find a home in the reader's imagination.

Demon Prince + Frat Bro + Soulmate Trope + Kidnapping = a surprisingly incredible story!

This was another stellar recommendation to me! I had no idea what to expect when my friend told me it pointed out how toxic the Soulmate trope could be. But I loved every. Flipping. Page!

By the end, you’re rooting for Ollie and Gabe! Stockholm Syndrome? I don’t know her.

I genuinely can’t wait for the sequel to come out.

Also, this was probably one of the spiciest books I’ve read. Considering I’m asexual, that may not mean a lot to some people. I didn’t mind how sexy it got, but for those who don’t like a lot of smut, there is a smut-free version that I’ve heard is just as good at telling Ollie and Gabe’s story. There is also an extra spicy version 🌶️

"I tried my best to clean it up with the towel I had before resigning. Some messes needed more intense care."

DNF'd at 90% - I couldn't cope with it any longer. I suffered about half of this book. Some quick notes because it honestly doesn't deserve a coherent thought out of me:

- Really Jacob/Renesme feeling having a 2.5k old man stalk a child for 19 years straight. Tried not to care, but when it adds banger lines such as "He put his hands around my neck like a child falling asleep in their parent's arms" MID SEX SCENE, it was too weird
- Gabe calls himself a toddler for throwing bread across the room in front of people... after being kidnapped forcefully whilst drunk and injured? Gabe, honey, you aren't a toddler for not being a silent hostage??? What in the mental gymnastics???
- Adding to that, Gabe forgives him WAY too quickly. This was genuinely quite dark during the kidnapping/hostage bit, and could've been a good obstacle for them to work around and grow closer through, instead Gabe has one conversation with Ollie's sister (which he snarkily starts saying she shouldn't bother trying to convince him, and it's just a monologue from Ari the stranger about why Gabe should pity fuck her brother)
- And in general there were so many 180's with the characters personalities and actions constantly
- lack of urgency with the assassination and getting the throne, with a lot of understandably upset people around them. I get Ollie is so old time must not feel as pressing or urgent, but come on, bro, at least make gabriel immortal before you putz around
- "immortals" that die don't really sound IMMORTAL, mate
- Huge lack of communication - how much of this would've been solved by things like "I didn't enrol you into that school and plan that" or "that man you're defending gave you a pill and you overdosed and he just left you to die, that's why I don't like him" - instead of random huge paragraphs that say basically nothing and clear up no misunderstandings
- Gabe changes way too jarringly as a character - the dude at the beginning doesn't "giggle" 30 pages in
- Their actions are weirdly casual and way too at ease - they're constantly falling onto beds with their arms folded behind their heads and leaning and touching each other's arms and junk and just not matching the atmosphere or the words they're saying, and it jarringly takes away from discussions
- "I could never imagine leaving this man" PAGES LATER "at least until I go home" AUTHOR, PLEASE
- Very predictable, surprise surprise the creepy old senator and the girl Ollie was banging/dumped for Gabe were the bad guys. Quell surprise
- Time issues: the characters go from saying it's a month to its been 6 months and BACK constantly. It felt lazy not having a definitive length
- All the good scenes with characterising happen as "oh we did that for a bit and then when back" and I wish you'd SHOWN US the characterizing they did instead of telling me "we danced" in one sentence. Any real scenes are just walking to and from Ollie's room simulator.
- I cared about literally none of them except maybe Gryfian because he didn't fucking speak. At least he looked mysterious - but maybe he was just someone I didn't yet know enough about to hate
- To be fair to it, the floaty language was good - but she only applied it for a second before she rushed ahead. Good description is like wine, let that shit breathe, man
- Weird world where being intimate isn't really sex unless it's penetrative stuff counts. And that counts as some weird ritual. His brother died because he didn't stay a virgin until he met his partner and the book made it out to be a huge mystery, its not - the dude just banged someone?
- If they could consummate in private, why did Ollie not suggest it originally KNOWING Gabe wasn't chill with it at the start of captivity? Would've made the whole "hostage" thing a lot smoother
- Instalove, there's fate so it depends how much weight you give that kind of thing. It's not developed - like at all. One minute they're talking, the next he's saying he loves him, it's very out of place
- "I spent 19 years in the human world learning as much as I could about it, but I never got the appeal of calling someone daddy," says the man who burst out in glee awkwardly describing finger guns in the last chapter like he'd never seen them before. He learned kinky daddy vocab but never stumbled upon universal finger guns? In his 19 years of stalking Gabe, Gabe had never done the sign before??? How have you not fucking seen it? It was just so jarring - the author didn't know her own characters and kept changing things.
- Daddy talk, which further made the age-gap creepy
- "I'm not gay bro", says man with male soulmate's dick literally inside him. And god forbid he couldn't just be aro/ace. The whole thing felt very "straight guy but gay for the man I love". If it WAS aro/ace rep??? I'm here for it, but not when it desperately tries to hide as a stubborn straight person and 1 guy because he's *special*
- I get that it's beautiful and soulmate and ooooh fate is special, but can you please not have your characters cry immediately after they nut
- "He didn't know I loved him!!!" boo, you said it 4 times, once when your cock was in his mouth, I think he knows
- the "cream" for breakfast for "daddy" scene will haunt me

Jesus fuck, yeah, I didn't like this
I kept waiting for it to get better and it never did

Honestly this book was just not good. Like regardless if they were soulmates, Ollie literally just kidnapped him and it basically turned into a stockholm syndrome kinda thing. Like bro did not like you and thought you were creepy yet it was dismissed all bc he’s your predestined mate. I had to force myself to continue reading it bc I don’t like DNFing books. If I could I unread it I would in a heartbeat. The concept of the book was interesting, i just think it just was poorly executed. Also I don’t believe the name of the book is fitting for the story.

The cover is pretty though.

This is a MM Fantasy Romance.
I am not a fantasy reader. It's not a genre I would normally seek out to read. With that being said, I absolutely fell in love with Ollie and Gabe.

This doesn't read like your typical fantasy book. The world building was gradual so you never feel bogged down with what I feel are unnecessary details and descriptions that are common in most fantasy. So even if fantasy is not your thing (because it's definitely not mine), it was written in such a way that the average romance reader can relate to the story and characters. I also felt that even though there is a definite plot here, it was very much a character driven love story.

Gabe is our orphaned and rich frat boy. Ollie is our demon prince of Sefaera. Soulmates.
Ollie spent all of Gabe's life watching over him and keeping him safe, unbeknownst to Gabe.
Waiting for the right time to push himself into Gabe's life, to make the bond known.

Things do not exactly go to plan - and I loved that Ollie had to put some work in to get his soulmate to love him back. Gabriel was not quick to buy in, or forgive. Ollie had to earn his trust and Gabe was definitely resistant - despite the bond that existed between them.

I was instantly connected to Gabe. He showed vulnerability as he navigated the predicament he found himself in and I loved his bewilderment as he tried to understand what was going on around him.

Ollie was so calm and controlled, at least on the outside. And even though Gabe didn't want to like him initially - I think Ollie calmed him. We get rare moments of insecurity from Ollie, especially when it comes to Gabe - and this made me love him even more.

They were opposites in so many ways, yet perfect for each other.

Loved, Loved, Loved it!

I wish there was more politics to show how Gabe was really needed in the first place. I also didn't really like the beginning. Olympio should have either committed to fully getting Gabe to trust him or kidnapped him from the get-go. This "lurking on the sidelines without accomplishing anything" didn't do much for the story. Their entire relationship was a little underwhelming for me.

After trying so desperately to get my hands on this book, I must say ... I'm very disappointed!
There's a lack of chemistry btw the two protagonists.
The character development happened almost overnight from hate to love.
I did finish it but I skipped through a lot at the end .

Not really my cup of tea, really hard not to DNF. Didn’t think the characters motives were believable and the writing was only okay. Gave it a second star because the cover was really pretty.

A captivating journey of complex and intimate relationships, vibrant worlds, and emotional turmoil.

Billionaire playboy Gabe, whose glamorous lifestyle hides a turbulent soul scarred by his parents' tragic deaths, finds his life upended by the demon prince Olympio. Olympio has been waiting for two decades to claim Gabe, his destined soulmate. When Gabe's life is imperiled, Olympio's impulsive decision to intervene thrusts them both into the magical realm of Sefaera. Here, Gabe's fierce resistance and the political machinations of a world brimming with ancient rivalries challenge their connection. As they navigate a perilous landscape of love, betrayal, and ancient customs, they must confront whether their bond will ultimately be their redemption or their undoing.

The bond Gabe and Ollie share is neither straightforward nor easy; it’s a dynamic forged under duress and laden with emotional upheaval. Their emotions (depression, rage, desperation, etc.) are depicted with such raw authenticity that readers are often left on the edge of their seats, pleading for them to recognize the impact they’re having on one another. Their individual histories add layers to their interactions, serving not only as a backdrop but also as a catalyst for their evolving bond. The emotional depth of their relationship is both compelling and heart-wrenching, driving home the idea that love, in its most profound form, is as much about personal growth as it is about connection.

The dialogue is a particular highlight, with banter and quips that amplify the intensity of each scene. The sharp, often biting exchanges between characters can escalate the tension or add a spicy twist, and sometimes, they manage to do both simultaneously. This blend of humor and heat is executed with finesse, keeping readers both entertained and invested. The open-door approach to spice ensures that no detail is left to the imagination, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences.

The choice to begin the novel in the human realm proves to be a stroke of genius. It allows readers to immerse themselves in the familiar setting of frat life before transitioning to the fantastical world of Sefaera. This gradual shift ensures that readers, like Gabe, are introduced to Sefaera’s customs, beings, and vibrant culture in a way that feels natural and engaging. The contrast between the human and fantastical realms enhances the sense of wonder and discovery as Gabe navigates his new world, and it leaves readers eager for more exploration of Sefaera in future installments.

Overall, Pledge is a powerful narrative that explores the intricacies of love, trauma, and personal growth. The relationship between Gabe and Ollie is portrayed with emotional depth and complexity, while the engaging dialogue and rich world-building add layers of excitement and immersion, making this an unforgettable start to what is sure to be an enthralling series.

OMG, so here's the tea: "Pledge" is the kind of book that snatches your wig and leaves you gasping for more, and I'm totally here for it. Let's break it down, fam:

First off, we've got Gabe, our super bottom main character who's basically swimming in money, but also drowning in all the feels. Like, his life is one big sad boi hour because he lost his parents and now he's stuck in this endless loop of fancy parties that do nothing to fill the void. But hold up, 'cause fate's about to slide into his DMs with a major plot twist!

Enter Olympio, aka Big Daddy demon prince from another dimension called Sefaera. This guy's got the whole tall, dark, and infinity-years-old thing going on, and he's tied to Gabe by this sparkly, destiny-type vibe. So, what does our demon hottie do? He goes undercover at Columbia University, joining the frat house right next to Gabe. And y'all, the drama doesn't wait to start.

Gabe's all confused 'cause his new frat bro, “Ollie,” is giving him these intense stares, but his heart's low-key pulling him toward this other guy Olympio can't stand. Jelly much? Totally. Things hit the fan, and Olympio zaps Gabe into his magical world to keep him away from any love rivals.

Now Gabe's stuck in Sefaera, dealing with everything from Olympio's salty ex to his new job title as ‘Justice of Sefaera’ (sounds fancy, right?). And there's this huge event coming up where Gabe's supposed to commit to this world and Olympio, but hello, he just met the guy!

But when things get dangerous 'cause some peeps don't want Olympio to be king, the bond between Gabe and Olympio goes from "Ugh, you're annoying" to "I can't breathe without you." It's all very soulmate-y and hot.

So, what's it gonna be? Will Gabe fall for the charms of a sexy demon prince and a whole new world? Or will he be like, "Nah, I'm good," and risk messing up an entire kingdom?

If you're into books like "Red, White and Royal Blue" but wish they had more magic, "Pledge" is your jam. It's got the enemies-to-lovers thing, but it's slow, like waiting for your crush to text back. And when things finally happen, it's 💥BOOM💥 city! Gabe and Olympio are #CoupleGoals, bringing out the best in each other. Plus, the world-building is chef's kiss, with moments that'll make you blush and others that hit you right in the feels.

Long story short: "Pledge" is the kind of book you cancel plans for. It's unique but also gives you those cozy, "I've been here before" vibes. 10/10 recommend, fam. Don't sleep on this one, 'cause it's lit AF! 🌈✨👑

Alright, let's dive into this: I recently got my hands on "Pledge," and honestly, as a nurse in her 30s, I wasn't expecting to be this engrossed by an MM Romantic Fantasy – but I was pleasantly surprised! Let’s dissect this, shall we?

Firstly, Gabe's character. Young, wealthy, but there's a depth to his pain – a lingering shadow from the loss of his parents. His world, filled with galas and high society, suddenly collides with Olympio's – the ancient demon prince from Sefaera. It's the meeting of two worlds, not just in terms of dimension, but in emotions and experiences. When Olympio enrolls in Columbia, the setting feels familiar yet tinged with an intriguing fantasy edge.

I was particularly impressed by the depth of research. Being in the medical field, I've got a keen eye for details, and let me tell you, the intricacies within Sefaera's healing arts and their rituals blew me away. The author really did their homework, and it genuinely adds to the immersion.

As for the relationship between Gabe and Olympio, it’s brilliantly crafted. It’s a dance, really. There's this undeniable pull between them, and the way their relationship develops is beautifully slow – a pace that allows you to truly appreciate their dynamic. The tension, the conflicts, the nuances – I found myself rooting for them, every step of the way.

Navigating through a world of magical politics, past lovers, and responsibilities, Gabe's transformation in Sefaera is riveting. The challenges he faces, especially the monumental Consummation ceremony, speak of personal growth and embracing one's destiny.

The book, while having its magical and fantastical elements, resonates with themes that are very real – acceptance, destiny, love, and the struggles that come with them. It reminds you that love is boundless, transcending realms and defying norms. And for someone who has witnessed numerous human experiences, it felt genuine and authentic.

For those who loved the intensity of "Red, White and Royal Blue" but long for a sprinkle of fantasy, "Pledge" is an absolute delight. It’s an intimate journey of two souls discovering and accepting each other amidst chaos.

In summary, "Pledge" wasn’t just a read for me; it was an experience. As a first-time dive into MM Fantasy Romance, it’s set the bar pretty high. For anyone looking for a blend of reality, magic, and heartfelt romance, this is a must-read. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Kudos to the author for creating such an evocative and well-researched world.

***ARC Review***The dissolute frat boy and the demon prince. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before… you won’t because you’ve never read anything like Pledge!
Wow. Just wow. I finished this late last night and took the morning to collect my thoughts about how to review this without spoiling the experience.
A peak at what you’ll find:
*A trust fund brat and millennia-old immortal
*First class world building complete with a fierce warrior sister, colorful magical creatures, and some very interesting rituals
*Soulmates destined to be together - even if it takes one of them longer to realize it
*Court intrigue to rival Game of Thrones machinations
*Two sexy AF MCs who go through their own Taming of the Shrew period before giving in to their bond
What I loved:
*Olympio. The prince. The spare who tragically becomes king. His search for his fated soulmate takes him to an Ivy League frat and an unimpressed Gabe
*Gabe. Is he a bratty trust fund kid or a young man still mourning the loss of his parents? A bit of both. I loved his growth from Columbia pledge to being a formidable consort to Ollie
*Olympio’s patience and care for Gabe. Gah! He’s awesome.
*Assassins, evil exes, and plotting courtiers. Yes please!
*Page 362
*Eleanor Rose’s writing is lush, vivid, and captivating. If you’re worried about the fantasy aspects, don’t be. This is relatable, readable, and sexy fun!
*Small point, but I loved how the title worked on so many different levels.
Sit back, buckle up, and enjoy this. Just don’t expect to get much sleep.

TL;DR. Just go preorder Pledge now!

"Pledge" by Eleanor Rose was an enthralling blend of contemporary college romance and vivid portal fantasy that seamlessly catered to my queer sensibilities. I have to admit, there's something both thrilling and relatable about Olympio (or "Ollie" as he's fondly known), an intense, alpha-male demon prince, discovering that his fated soulmate is Gabriel, a somewhat ordinary frat boy grieving the loss of his parents. Rose does a commendable job introducing us to the demon realm of Sefaera, all the while avoiding the common pitfalls of information dumps, making the transition into this world feel natural and immersive.

The dynamic between Ollie and Gabriel is charged with electricity, reminding me of the witty banter and tension I loved in "Red, White, and Royal Blue". There's a genuine slow burn here, a slow-building crescendo of emotions, lust, loyalty, and trust. It's a testament to Rose's skill that she captures the essence of the idea that true love, even between soulmates, isn't just given but earned through mutual respect and understanding. The book's rich setting, engaging side characters, and compelling palace intrigue added layers to an already captivating narrative. I wholeheartedly recommend "Pledge" to anyone yearning for a unique, queer fantasy romance that resonates with authenticity and passion. And, not to be superficial, but that cover art? Simply breathtaking!
