Hidden in Plain Sight is by Carmine Vittoria. This is an unusual and complex book which takes us into the towns in the mountains of Southern Italy and shows how the average person survived the war when caught in the middle of the fight. It shows the difference between Italian camps and Germans belief. It is fascinating; but difficult to get into it. I had to read it in intervals to understand and make the needed connections.

As a lifelong learner this book blew me out of the water. I didn't know anything about these Italian internment camps. It must have taken a tremendous amount of research to write this book. I now have a greater compassion for the Italian soldiers who never came home. How resilient the Italians are is amazing. Thank you Ms. Vittoria for bringing this unknown part of WWII history to me

This topic is not widely covered, that I am aware of so this book was of interest to me. The book has technical issues, repetition and would have benefited from a good editor. The author, however, is a great storyteller and he brings to light the plight of Southern Italy during WWII. I learned a lot.
