All of our favorite magical characters return with their charming idiosyncrasies inherent with their individual "personalities." Rita is at her sarcastic best and kept me laughing throughout. This time, we have a werewolf who doesn't understand the word "no." He is, apparently, the last of his species and hell bent on courting Rita and making her his mate. Never mind the fact that she is happily married to powerful "Sephalion." Fireworks, baby! And, let's not forget that an insane Medusa has now been added to the mix. Oh boy! Greek mythology anyone?
After feeling a bit let down with the lack of detail from Rita’s wedding and honeymoon, I took a slow start to these last two books which are entitled “Part 1” and “Part 2.” Isn’t it just like a series writer to break up one story in order to sell more books? I have never been a fan of that tactic. Anyhoo, I have had a shopping list of stories within this story that I’d like to see, a John David romance, babies from Evie and Diarmuid, traveling with Rita and Kier, and the spiteful part of me wants Rita’s ex to see how wonderful her life is without him. That’s never even been hinted at by Danaan. In any case, Danaan’s prowess lies in painting vivid pictures of everyday scenes, like a simple surprise birthday party. I felt like I was right there, watching Ivy flitter around like Tinkerbell lighting candles and sprinkling pixie dust. I could hear Diarmuid’s baritone voice start the birthday song while everyone else joined in. My heart was full. Later, one of my shopping list items appeared! This seems to be a theme, Rita falls asleep and doesn’t wake up. Poor Keir. Of course the book ends on this cliff hanger.
I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed we got another book in this series and was super eager to tuck right in as I thought the last book ended the series on a very decent note. Alas, this just wasn’t great. It felt rushed, unfinished (the cliffhanger was weirdly appropriate) and just out of place. Rita specifically mentioned she was having the same dreams over and over again, Esme & Keir both told Lochlan they couldn’t wake her…Lochlan who had the same brief about Medusa that Rita had and no one could put two and two together, Olivia obviously made it to work the next day and didn’t appear to mention to anyone that state she found Rita and the dogs in, what happened to Cole, how come no one ever said why werewolves were so problematic? The list goes on and on. Honestly this could’ve been a novella and we could’ve moved past all the writing errors, changes in narrative, and the repetition of events but in the wrong order.
The story, plot and conversations still jump all over the place. I frequently fly have to re-read to figure out who's talking to who, or what's even going on because the subject/setting/etc have changed after one sentence without any warning. And the unprofessional formatting doesn't help. It's like someone is dictating put loud and the machine is only getting part of the words, punctuation, or context correct. The story overall still has enough potential that I'm still curious enough to continue torturing myself with the bad grammar/formatting/etc.
Captivating, Fantastic, Gripping!!! This story captivated me! It is so good. I am going to want to read it again and again! If you have been reading the Hallow Hill stories, you will know Rita is the Magistrate. It starts with her Birthday. Man this book got a hold of me and would not let me go! Fantastic story. Best one for me of the Year! Get your copy and start reading, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!! From a Forever Fan... Pam James.
This was an interesting book with a cliffhanger ending. It surprised me in that it felt like Rita was in trouble the whole book…..like a disobedient child. A little different than the other books. And Kier left her side for quite awhile. Again, very different than the other books. Also, it felt like everyone wasn’t getting along like they usually do. But my attention was held from beginning to end and I can’t wait for the next book
This book brings all aspects of mythology to life. Love the flow and easy read this book has. If you are intersted in mythological creatures and suspense, then this book is for you. Rita Hayworth learna that she is in a bigger world than she once thought. What will she go through next is anyone's guess. Cant wait to see what happens next! Victoria Dannan has done it again.
Rita is back with exciting new adventures in Hallow Hill. Some of her friends are back and we find out about a sad past in one person's life. Just when you think you know what may pop up there's a werewolf in the mix. Oh, and her ex-husband shows up to try and cause problems. Victoria makes sure you will be eagerly looking forward to part two.
I really like this series but this book repeats a now twice used problems. Loki and the Jersey Devil and the phi am all bother Rita in her dreams. The magistrate role has been going on for a thousand years. No one figured out how to keep her safe?
I don't leave a lot of reviews but this author and this series is fantastic ! There is a little bit of a cliffhanger but the next book comes out shortly so not too much of a wait. I really like this author and will read anything she comes out with thank you for the entertainment!
I knew that this book ended in a cliff-hanger, so I waited to read it until book 8 was out. Another entertaining adventure with Rita in Hallow Hills. John David's latest dinner party goes sideways, Loki makes an appearance, and Ms. Danann introduces a new character to the lively mix of this paranormal community. A good read from start to the end.
Absolutely loved part 1, going right to part 2. The residents of Hallow Hill surprise Rita with a surprise birthday party, Romeo crashes through a forest to rescue her, John David throws a grand ball and Rita starts having nightmares. Chaos and hilarity ensues. Another great story in this series.
I was so glad to revisit the Hallow and Rita Hayworth's world. I've missed it. This book has humor, intrigue, family and such a sense of community! And it also has a werewolf! He has a unique storyline and I'm excited to find out more about him.
This book will keep you entertained from beginning to end and of course leave you wanting more since it’s part on. Rita has gotten into more than one situation where one is kinda her fault and the other not so much.
As repeated from the headline…..I hate to be left hanging! An abrupt end…..and when does part 2 come? I guess it shows how absorbed I was in the story.
The Hallows is back with all our favorite characters and then some. Esme has become a favorite of mine with her don't mess with me attitude but so sweet underneath it all. Can't wait to read part 2.
Rita is back! This is a great series filled with adventure, romance, and humor, as well as a touch of magic. It was a joy to spend time with the characters and to learn more of their stories. Victorian Danann is a wonderful writer. She has created a world I love to visit. As this is part one, it does end on a cliff hanger. It is a good thing the next part arrives in January.
Talk about suspense... As always I enjoy all the characters of Hollow Hills...Wow the suspense of what is going to happen next ???? I can't wait for the next book...
