The Benson First Responders saga continues with Blake and Violet. With drug deals at the Benson Teen Center and a bomber seemingly trying to wipe out the first responders, murder, madness and mayhem abounds.

I received an advanced reader copy from the author. Opinions are my own.

Slow. A ton of characters. Suspenseful. A little far-fetched with the incidents. But I stayed with it and the novel and the characters grew on me. I have the next book in the series pinned to be read. Violent Anderson was the female main character along with Detective Blake Reed, her rescuer.

Nightfall was one exciting thrill to the next! Phillips pumped Nightfall’s words full of action, betrayal, deceit, lies, the angst of young life, and abundant love. This book woke me up and engaged my mind and heart in a battle of free-will and the question of what if? In every chapter I found an enigma of a story – and a dream of hope and love. I also saw the goodness in many of the characters that led them to help others find their dreams and their strength.
As an EMT, Violet Anderson has faced the aftermath of danger every day. Just to give back to her community, especially since her own growing up years were not stellar, Anderson donates her time to a teen center. Right before an incident within the center itself occurs, Detective Blake Reed ends up on scene. As the situation is dealt with by a group of peers as a “jury”, everything balances out before lines are drawn.
Throughout this book, Phillips has tenaciously woven facts, figures, and actions of the individuals involved. The ordinary fear of individuals involved together has painted a big picture of chaos, action, intrigue, lies, all aspects of faith, and a future filled with hope. Reed and Anderson chase down the leads that eventually lead them in a full circle – just to find the answers to who is involved, what they are involved in, and why they are involved at all. As answers come to light, the big picture provides a clue and the danger ramps down. Motives come to light and the possibility of the end being in sight is drawn closer. Through it all, full-blown love rescues their hearts, and their futures can be sustained with hope and faith.
This book was an abundance of strong wills, hopeful hearts, faith, and the dreams that can set you free. Plus, it had all the action necessary to keep me riveted to my seat turning the pages! I was asked by the author to read this book and to share my honest opinion of it after I read the book. I loved what the author did within the life of each character, and on every page of this book seemed to be a thrill waiting to happen!
In truth, I was wrapped up in the story of Blake and Lanie, never wanting to let it go. They both led with their hearts – and not necessarily their minds. I gave this book five stars out of five stars! It was a well written, action-packed, and thrill-seeking book with lots of love and oodles of action. I was given this book to read for my honest opinion – and I still truly believe that love can overcome most obstacles. As Phillips proved with this book, Nightfall, love, action, danger, and truth can give you strength. But, love can definitely set you free!

I've been reading Lisa Phillips' books for close to 10 years now and I have to say that I think her current series are her best yet. Maybe it's just me but they really seem to have grown in depth and I've loved seeing the character development.

In Nightfall, we have the pleasure of getting better acquainted with Blake and Violet. Blake is a definite hero; not because of his day job, but the way that he has stepped up for his family and the character that he displayed while doing it. This is a guy you're going to root to see have his own happily ever after. Violet may have come from a privileged background, but she is no less a heroine than Blake is a hero, she’s determined to serve others both on the job and in her time away. With trouble in her own past, she is compassionate in trying to help teens forge a positive path forward in life.

One of the things that I really ended up loving about this book was the story of Blake’s father. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but it was definitely a highlight. This also wouldn’t be one of the author’s stories if there wasn’t plenty of action so don’t for a second think this book won’t have you flipping pages as quickly as possible to find out what happens next. For me, I ended up bringing it to the dinner table…

Phillips tends to be more subtle in what her stories teach, but I love the themes that exist in Nightfall. Mainly, our past (or where we come from) does not have to dictate our future and we can choose to be a positive influence in the midst of adversity or in what looks to be the darkest of circumstances.

While these characters were introduced in a book earlier in the series and you’ll see characters in other books in the series, it can be read as a standalone (until you read it and decide you want to read the rest of them). Go ahead and pick up a copy today.

Nightfall by Lisa Phillips (Benson first responders book 6)

Good stuff for sure. Action packed, 2nd chances, faith filled and finding God. Nightfall pulls you in from the start and keeps you there! I really enjoyed reading Blake and violets story and looking forward to diving into book 7- fallout! One of my favorite things about Lisa Phillips books is that you get to revisit "old friends" which also makes me want to go read whole other series over again lol.
Anyway, if you haven't read any of the others, you could definitely just pick it up and read it but I'd highly recommend the whole series, I have enjoyed each one!

"Success or failure is totally up to you. Don't make the wrong choice."

Violet Anderson was a sight to behold . . . . lovely in face and form, fierce when it came to facing down angry wanna-be-adults and challenging their wrong behaviors. Her dual lifestyle as a paramedic and dedicated volunteer at a local teen center apparently left her little time to socialize. But didn't explain how Detective Blake Reed had somehow missed meeting the infamous "Lettie" whom his younger sisters had raved about. Until now. . . . .. . their paths crossing along a dangerous trajectory . . . especially for her. Drug gangs in Benson were fighting a turf war and someone wasn't playing fair.

Fast and furious. . . . might best describe this book, but the author also managed to cover quite a bit of relational mine fields in the process, making the end result quite impressive! The power of prayer can never be underestimated.

"Lord . . . . . . . There were so many lives at stake."

Nightfall was an incredible suspense read. EMT Violet Anderson volunteers at a center for teens where she encounters Detective Blake Reed who is there regarding drug deals. Violet doesn't know that Blake is a detective, nor does Blake know she's an EMT until their paths cross during a police investigation.
Violet's father pushed her to excel at and perfect everything, including being a doctor like him, until she hit rock bottom. Blake's father is in prison for taking the fall for a crime that happened years ago.
This riveting suspense story has a lot of action, a bomber, twists and turns, and surprises and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lisa Phillips has become one of my favorite authors, and this series may be my favorite of hers. I have been looking forward to reading this one, and it did not disappoint. In fact, I think it is the best of the six book series.

Both Violet and Blake were extremely likable characters, but especially Blake. To still have a relationship with his dad after what his dad had done, to raise his sisters after his mom died...he made an excellent hero.

I was telling a coworker about this book and some of the things that happened in it, and she said "man, it sounds like an action movie." And yes, it kind of does. A lot happens in the book, and the series goes out with a bang. Pun intended.

I think this book is the best in the series so far. Explosive is the word that comes to mind, in more ways than one. Violet Anderson is an EMT who volunteers at a teen center. Blake Reed is a detective and SWAT team member who is assigned to find out about drug deals that may be connected to the teen center. Once they meet the action truly begins and it doesn't stop until the end. Throughout the story we meet Blake and Violet's families and discover why Blake and Violet are the strong characters that they are. This book is full of suspense, action, redemption, forgiveness, faith, romance, plot twists and turns. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Nightfall

Someone is killing the known drug dealers in the area and Detective Blake Reed is tasked to investigate the crime. When a link surfaced to a local teen center where his sisters once frequented he meets Lettie, a paramedic hiding from her past and anxious to help the teens to find a better future. Together they try to puzzle through the happenings in the area. Read the exciting and suspenseful account of their activities. Highly recommended book.

This series started off so strange to me, now it and the characters are growing on me. Each story provides a link to the next one. This story had terrific suspense and an ending I completely didn't see coming. It provided a great teaser into the next book.

Chrisitian themes in this book are learning to trust God in all things, our identities are in God regardless of where we come from, and money, prestige, and power aren't worth the sacrifice of your family.

An Excellent Story

The pages couldn’t turn fast enough. Although the other books in the series were good, this one was excellent. Housework and other chores had to wait. It was impossible to put this one down. Read it, you won’t be disappointed!

Movie Worthy

You would think that with this being the sixth book in the series, it wouldn’t be as great. Wrong! Was probably one of the better ones. Blake is featured and picks up a love interest.

I enjoyed this one a lot. There are parts that might've had more context if I'd read the first five books in the series. 🙃 Now I'm torn between going back to read those OR continuing with the seventh book since this one flows right into it. (Going with Fallout, the seventh book, for now.)
