A curse of flame. An oath of ice. A will to challenge fate.
Three months have passed since the battle against the High Guard, and Felix and his people have grown. He’s poised on the brink of ascension to Master Tier, and his Stronghold is a burgeoning city; echoing with commerce, affluence, and the influence that comes with it.
Felix cares for none of it.
His Companion Pit remains cursed. Wings lost and wounds unable to heal, every remedy they try on the grounded creature only brings a fresh round of despair. It consumes all of Felix's attention, to the point that only the threat of the Corrupted Unbound—Imara—can force him away.
The huntress has only a singular the Unbound known only as the Ashen Gnome, who she intends to personally deliver to the Hierophant.
Should the Gnome fall into her clutches, everything Felix has built would be destroyed—and there’s not a chance in hell that he'll let that happen.
As usual, I think this story works better when l the scope is grandiose and epic. The overall power of the main characters are just too great for there to be anything captivating about the day to day minutiae.
I really enjoyed this one, and off you’ve been a fan of the series so far, so will you.
For a book that is 90% action, it's still losing my interest. The core of the story, which started with one man, has expanded in every direction. More team members, more problems, more dependants... but this approach seems to be watering down the story's heart.
I liked the ending as it precludes a simple resolution... Felix can no longer just get so strong as to kill all his enemies. Even so, I'm not sure I'll be continuing with this series.
This is book 8. If you've read up till now, you already know. If you got hooked by a later blurb, go back to Dissonance. If you are unsure if it's worth the commitment, it is. Genius writing, full cast of characters that each have their own personality and voice, supporting our isekai hero's reluctant meteoric rise to power, while somehow also being a story about just a dude going on road trips with his friends. In a book of nearly a thousand pages, its expected that there would be some fluff, stuff that doesn't add to the story or the world. There isn't. Every word creates a rich world, with distinct cultures and art, without being exhausting. We aren't innundated with repeated massive blocks of stats pages, there's one big stat recap at the beginning, and small one to two line updates throughout, with the occasional skill description when its pertinent. This series is the pinnacle of gamelit fantasy. I do have a complaint tho. It was too short!
As others have mentioned the books are starting to have a pattern. This particular book could be Unbound: Side Quests. At this point in a series it just makes me feel the author is padding things, doesn't want to finish, doesn't know how to finish or doesn't know where the story is going.
The author has an infuriating habit of offsetting chapters by half. Where the last half of a chapter and the first half of the next chapter were actually one chapter. Annoying AF. I think this book improved over previous ones but I don't feel like going back to verify it until another volume comes out on audiobook.
I have really enjoyed the pace of this series. The MC is progressing at a good rate and the plot keeps moving in an interesting direction. Very little fills like filler. I like that the whole good guy team is advancing at a good rate too and not just being left behind.
I didn't think that a nearly 1k-page 8th book in a series would be able to hold my attention, yet it did.
This is a huge story, with many moving parts and at least two worlds involved. The level of Felix's enemies has risen nearly past his ability to prevail against the massive forces involved, and this keeps his rapid advancement from moving into OP territory. He has the basis of being able to fight the gods toe-to-toe, and either he achieves that or this story ends, so I guess I know where this is going.
Seeing it get there continues to be fun, so hopefully book 9 keeps the momentum of this one.
The most AMAZING single thing contained within this gloriously vibrant, vividly detailed, immensely entertaining and thrillingly satisfying series has been the evolution of our author, Mr. Nicoli Gonnella.
While our protagonist and his companions have leveled and tempered themselves by leaps and bounds through the pages of the first eight volumes, to the point where Felix is entering into his Master tier. Mr. Gonnella’s own growth and evolution as an untempered yet talented storyteller with a seemingly natural gift from the tale first spun for us way back in Book 1 to the powerful Grand Master who provided us with this eighth chapter of Unbound (with a phantasmic illumination of his deep foreshadowing) far outstrips even the Autarch’s own inane growth and accumulation of skill.
Sadly, I must now peruse other avenues to while away my time while awaiting the next glorious chapter in this ever growing complexity of a litrpg epic while Mr. Gonnella eschews his fame and fortune to lock himself away to dutifully train his evolving skills to ensure rabid fans receive book 9 as soon as Nymeaningly possible …
Within this sub-genre of fantasy lit, Mr. Gonnella might be the best writer. His stories, but also his writing. He keeps getting better, too. The man can write.
Unbound is by far my favorite series right now. This one delivers the hard-as-nails action of its predecessors, and it demonstrates the power of Gonnella's imagination with even more intensity. Like I said before: scope the imagination on this guy! I can only hope he enjoys writing them as much as I enjoy reading them!
This one has a huge surprise and sets up the next book nicely. The stakes seem to be even bigger for Felix than he thought. I can't wait to catch up with him and Pit again. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed this latest installment of Felix’s adventures. Boy was it a long one, and I loved it. A lot happens and we have solid progression along Felix’s path. This one doesn’t have quite as many giant power ups as previous books, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it allows us to focus more on Felix adjusting to his foundation. I continue to be impressed with the level of quality in these books with how fast Nicoli cranks them out. Can’t wait for the next one!
As usual, the writing is very good. The book is a very easy read with very creative writing that induces all sorts of fantastic thoughts and impressions. I always enjoy reading about the grand harmony and all the imagery used to impart the sensations onto us readers.
The characters have depth and personal goals too. This book did not truly have a large focus on the other characters as with the previous few books but it got across the message.
I would highly recommend this book along with the whole series. It starts slow but gets truly rapturous.
This series has been excellent from the jump, and I find that truly rare. I love to read to the exclusion of much else. Felix and his friends are, without a doubt, astounding and so much more. I love seeing them all evolve into these powerhouses. The beautiful part is that they didn't start there, and for most of the group, it didn't look like they were ever going to rise to the heights that Felix has risen. In all honesty, they're still not really there, but that's the fun of it all.
I hate that the next book is so far away, but I suppose that's to be expected.
I enjoyed reading the unbound series and can firmly place it among the upper echelons of my personal favorite reads. The MC and supporting cast are phenomenal. The pacing is excellent, with each book providing just enough foreshadowing and strengthening of the characters to keep you thoroughly engaged. The leveling system is vast as well as unique without it bogging down the well written story. A big hearty thank you goes to the author and his inspirations for also inspiring me.
Unlike contemporaries, the characterization in this series is excellent. This book is strong and somehow ratchets up the stakes while still resolving some plot points.
I heartily recommend this series. It's become a favorite second only to the Dungeon Lord series by Hugo Huesca... Which doesn't seem active any longer so I guess that makes this my favorite series or tied for the top spot.
This series has finally found its rhythm. Early on there was way too much fighting with insane odds. Things have settled down a little. Felix is powerful enough now that there are some fights that are easier for him and some that are harder. There is more of a balance. The characters are well written, and the magic system is impressive. There are also some surprises thrown in at the end. Overall, I am enjoying the series more now than before.
Loving this series. My only complaints is the lack of storage devices. I get how his clothes can be be restored with a little mana, but what doesn’t make sense is how when his clothes get totally destroyed, books or pieces of the helmet stored in it somehow survive. Especially after his fight with Imara (not giving the spoiler 😁). I somehow in the back of my mind suspected a possibility on who she might be.
Book 8 of the Unbound series hit hard. Now we have consequences. Lots of them. After the battle against the High Guard, Felix and friends try to heal and advance. Some have unexpected setbacks. Pit is still injured. And the demands of rule burden Felix. Yet the rest of the world around them waits for no one. Another great story, augmented by the big reveal at the end of the book!
Since I started this series I've been captivated. Enjoying it more each book I read and that has not stopped. So here I set wanting more. Oh thank god Felix and Vess are finally getting it together. You had me worried. But okay all's right in the world now. Just hurry up I want the next book now.
After a good but flawed seventh book, this one is a refreshing change of pace. A few plot points were set up in advance and pay off nicely, the fight scenes were engaging, and there were relatively few grammatical mistakes. Eagerly looking forward to the next one.
Amazing characters, world and system. Along with writing skilfull enough to have the characters grow more interesting as they evolve, the world more intriguing as the story progresses and the system more involving as our MC gets stronger.
Comparable to the best of Sanderson and Wight, I have no higher praise. Go read it.
I can describe how much I love this series!! Every page in this book was full of amazing characters and magic. I love this series so much and I’m so happy I started reading this amazing book! One of my favorite books of the year. My favorite thing about this series is how well developed and multifaceted the characters and how each character shines! I can not highly recommend this book enough!
I’ve really enjoyed this series. I find myself struggling to stop reading before I go to bed. I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes. The main character is getting so powerful, it’s hard to imagine where the story is going next. But, I can’t wait to find out.
The fate of al worlds hangs in the balance between the power and the glory of the coming of one whose path shall not be claimed and yet here we are spellbound and down - loaded up and trucking ya dig - ? - we must do what cannot be done regardless of what they say - compulsions begone!
Another kick booty book in the series... One of the powerhouse series in the genre.... Highly recommend JD Glasscock Author of the Series Blood Brothers and the Dream and Embers and Ash
I love this series every new book is a new story I never want to leave. I dropped everything once this book came out to read it. It was well worth it. The attention to detail, the surprises are something else.
Paced well Good character development Nice world building Interesting twists continue to develop Can’t wait foe next book to see where the story will lead.
