Demons make great roommates. I’d know. I have three of them…
Ever since Nico, Star, and Ryk became my roommates, I’d sensed something strange about them.
Nico loved cooking. Ryk enjoyed painting. Star was a pro at napping. They were all unique, incredibly quirky, and just a little out of touch with reality.
When they told me they were demons, and I was their mate… well, that changed everything.
I’d never expected I’d end up with three demon boyfriends, but at least now life would never be boring.
My Demon Roommates is a 61k words MMMM romance featuring three adorably quirky demons, two fur-babies, and one responsible human. Full of fluff, demonic antics, and the usual Stella Rainbow sweetness, it’s bound to leave you with a smile on your face.
While connected to Stella Rainbow’s Otherworld books, this story can be read as a standalone.
Stella Rainbow is the pen name of a twenty something woman from India. Her heart is too full of rainbow colored stories to be limited by the lack of awareness in her home country.
Stella spends her days cuddling up with her cat, typing out new stories, daydreaming and reading all the books she can get her hands on.
She loves talking to her readers and other book lovers, so don't hesitate in contacting her on any of her socials or emailing her at authorstellarainbow@gmail.com
Not for me. Saw the MMMM, so all in. It was a spin off. The demons were sweet, but there was nothing really to it. It was soft fluff with no hiccups. Dakota was accepting straight off, although a shame he didn't meet Hella. I liked how Nico stuck to doing things the human way and how Ryk was with his future in-laws. It was pretty much a fated mates sunday walk. Was hoping for a little drama or some sort of bump in the road.

2.5 stars. I was super excited to start this one as I thought it was an all male reverse harem and I love those. Figured out it is an MMMM but as still happy to continue reading. It started off soooo incredibly cute (one demon using his magic to make his peas disappear because he doesn’t like them 😍 - pure gold)! But unfortunately it stayed super cute and way too easy and it just felt a little juvenile at times. There is very little spice which is also surprising for an MM+ story. If you are in the mood for pure fluff, demons who act more like angels, barely any side plot and an overload of cuteness then I definitely say give it a shot!
3.75/5 This is a sweet, low-angst slice-of-life story. Although three of the MCs are demons, we don’t actually see a lot of magic or paranormal shenanigans, as Dakota doesn’t know the truth about them for most of the book, and they spend most of their time relaxing and enjoying being in the human realm in their house.
I thought Stella did a good job of making each of their personalities and voices distinct, so I always knew whose POV I was in, but for me, the story suffered a little from so many POVs; we just didn’t get to spend very much time in any one person’s story. I did think it was well-balanced between the four of them, and I enjoyed seeing them navigate being together and actually having discussions and communicating.
I liked the growing lore about demons amidst the wider Otherworld and Afterworld universe. I would have enjoyed a little more discussion between the four of them about preferred form, etc., once Dakota knows the truth. I liked Moon and Cherry and Dakota’s parents. Overall, we had a lot of quirky, genuine people here, and that was lovely to read about.
We only got little hints in this book about the more overarching story of the escaped dark souls. If this story is any indication, it will be a low-key backdrop, or perhaps it will pick up more in future books.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
It’s just rather bland. The 3 demon characters felt rather flat even though they have “distinct” personality traits. Didn’t live up to what I expected. I wouldn’t mind this if it was much shorter but with no drama/smooth sailing, it’s considered quite long and a drag.
Dakota King, human Nico, demon Ryk, demon Star, demon
This premise of this books was adorable and I was pretty excited to dive in as mistaken/secret/hidden identity is my favourite romance trope. I loved the idea of the three demons trying to integrate with humanity and avoid having their human roommate catch on that they were anything but human. There were hints sprinkled throughout the book, but I just wanted more, .
Unfortunately, fated mates is not one of my favourite tropes as I feel it is sometimes relied on too heavily to carry the story rather than have the characters develop genuine relationships and this books didn't do much to counter my preconception. It doesn't bother me in a novella format but with a book of this length it feels a little disingenuous . There were moments, than hinted that feelings were developing between Dakota, Nico, Ryk, and Star, but again, I just wanted more, it was very mundane without much depth.
The characters were not very well-rounded or developed, in fact, they felt about as fleshed out as secondary/supporting characters with one or two character traits or quirks. The worldbuilding was equally pithy. This is my only my second Stella Rainbow experience and while I'm sure fans of her work were thrilled with the cameos of other characters from other books I had a difficult time keeping them straight and understanding their place in this story. I have not read her Otherworld series so I'm not sure if the missing context and worldbuilding (Otherworld, Afterworld, Underworld, dark souls, demon realm, etc.) would have been established there of if it is more of a matter of writing style.
In either case, while there were a lot of things I loved about the story - Dakota's friend, Divya, and her teasing friendship; his cat, Moon, and dog, Candy, and how they react to the demons; his parents and their easy acceptance of the roommates first as roommates/friends and then as partners to their son - there were enough aspects that impeded my personal enjoyment of the story.
These demons are supposedly in the living realm to protect Mistvall from dark souls, but they spend all their time at home, sleeping, cleaning or painting. A dark soul does eventually show up on their Bat Radar, but it doesn't lead to conflict. There really isn't any conflict in the relationship either. I was bored.
The demons have money and practically limitless magical power that they use to do important things, like clean their clothes.
The personalities in this book are sympathetic enough, but the guys' relationships have little friction or heat. The make out scenes feel awkward. The world building is confusing. Two stars because the editing is pretty good and I skimmed the end looking for conflict instead of abandoning it completely.
I truly say this reluctantly, because I hate giving negative reviews. I have respect for anyone who puts in the effort to write a whole book.
I picked this up thinking the premise of 3 demon roommates would make for a hilarious rom-com type book
I was so wrong… the only reason it’s not 1 star is because the premise was promising. Everything else was shockingly bad, and I can’t believe this book has 4⭐️s average rating.
The plot was shockingly simple, dull, and monotonous. Seriously, nothing happened. There were random characters that popped up for no reason sometimes. The dialogue was so awkward it felt like it was written by a 14 year old or an alien. The characters were flat and inconsistent.
Okay, this is part of a set universe which I was familiar with but it was just so easy. There wasn't much to it. Three demons move in with a guy, realize after some magical interference that they are mates and the human is also their mate and he just says great yeah, his parents are completely open (they don't know they are demons) but take on their son in a ... poly relationship (not sure what you call 4) and besides one small evil sould part, it was just them hanging out. *shrug* So nothing wrong per se, just a bit too easy for me. I had to force myself to finish.
Demon Roommates is the first book in the Demon Dabacles series and can be read as a standalone. There is a prequel to this series (Summoning Chaos). This series is also in the same world as all the Mistvale series, both the Otherworld series, the Innocent Monsters series and the upcoming Sanctuary series.
I can always rely on Stella Rainbow for sweet adorableness! This week I’ve read lots of books, but haven’t enjoyed very many of them, this low angst read was just what I needed!
Above I said this book can be read as a standalone, but I wanted to expand a bit on why I think this: the MCs get a HEA, and they don’t have a large presence in any other books. However, the plot line with the dark souls is a continuation of an another series. The majority of the plot is focused on the main characters and their developing relationship. I would class the dark souls plot line as minor and it doesn’t get resolved in this book (I think it will continue in the next books) so this is why I class is it as a standalone.
The plot was nice and easy to read, the low angst and simple plot allowed the characters to be well developed and likeable. I felt like I knew who the characters were and were about to easily distinguish between them, which is sometimes hard if you have a large group of MCs. I really liked how Stella Rainbow presented these characters, they were all unique and considering this book wasn’t very long, I felt satisfied with this read. However, due to the size, this book was a slow burn so I do wish we saw a bit more of their HEA.
Ryk is a golden retriever - he’s enthusiastic, honest, joyful and an artist. Star is sarcastic, caring, protective and he sleeps a lot which is kind of adorable. (The reason he does this is because of how old he is). Nico is thoughtful, looks after everybody, likes cooking and cleaning. He always felt like an outsider when with the other demons and is enjoying being in the human world. These three demons have spent centuries being friends in the demon world, however, when a problem arises, all the demons go to the human world. Nico, Star and Ryk move in with Dakota. Dakota is the human who these three demons move in with. He’s responsible, patient and kind. His parents are awesome, I liked that they were supportive as I feel like that’s quite rare.
I really enjoyed seeing these four come together and develop their relationship. I love Rainbow’s world but if you’re not aware of it from previous books, you probably won’t be very aware of it from just reading this. I liked that the emotions from this book didn’t cause me to feel anything extreme like crying or laughing, Demon Roommates was the ideal comfort read.
This book contains sensitive content such as homophobia.

😍 MMMM PNR Romance 🎨 An artist demon, a homemaker demon and a nap-expert demon 💖 A responsible human 😴 A sleepy cat and protective dog 💔 Low angst ❤️🔥 Roommates 😉 3 demon best friends who didn’t realise they were attracted to each other 🥰 Fated mates
This book I found to be quite good! I thought the way in which this was written was really great, I enjoyed how we got each character's pov. Sometimes when the POV keeps switching things get confusing, but that didn't happen here. Each time the POV switched, it was marked as such, which really helped keep things concise.
I liked how these demons were trying to pass as humans, and how they each had their own hobby of sorts. The way the fated mates component came into the story was really interesting! It was unknown even to the demons who their fated mate/s were until... something happened. I can't say what cause that would spoil it!
I loved how the relationship developed between these men; it wasn't fast, it wasn't instantaneous, it just happened gradually, which I really enjoyed. The pacing itself was great, and I quite liked how the story flowed. I thought the way Star and Moon bonded was so adorable, how they were never far from the other, and how they were always taking naps together.
Ryk's character loved to paint and I liked the idea of him painting in the dark not knowing what colors he was using. That was really interesting and made me wonder what that would actually be like to do something similar.
I loved Nico's character! Him being so passionate about cooking and baking for all the men he lives with was really endearing and so sweet! Especially because he was determined to learn how to do all the human things without magic, and he accomplished just that.
Candy and Moon were adorable additions who were became side characters themselves. They added so much humor to the story, and really rounded out the... Found family feeling that was developing throughout the story.
If you love fated mates, a poly relationship, cuddly and grumpy pets, and demons just trying to live their life, then this is the story for you!
My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous.
It started cute, but the author lost way too much time on unnecessary fillers. It took up to the 50% mark to start the "relationship". I believe that because there were SO many MC's, I wasn't able to connect with any of them. Then nothing happens until the 80% mark, where we are reminded about their purpose of being on Earth, and it is all rushed, and nothing happens. The book felt juvenile at times. One thing is being cute, another is acting immature, especially for beings that are supposed to be millennia old. There is very little spice, which is also surprising for an MM story. It felt as if the author was confused about whether this was going to be a spicy romance versus a sweet slice of life romance. If you are in the mood for pure fluff, demons who act more like teens, barely any side plot, and an overload of characters that felt too feminine for an MM book, then this book is for you. Too bland for MM fantasy romance for my taste. I wish they put more emphasis on the side plot instead of all the unnecessary domesticity.
This book was SO good! +3 Demons trying to act like humans +4 different personality types +Fur Babies +And a Special connection that brings the 4 together. This book was a bit spicier than normal, at least to me. And I'm NOT complaining. Unlike most creatures in the world, these lovely demons don't seem to have a soulmate. A small tweak and all their love dreams come true! I love these 4 babies! They are so sweet and shy when they are together. But as soon as the clothes come off.... it got spicy. With so many different personality types, you would assume there would be a lot of infighting and disagreements. But honestly it's the opposite. Their personalities all compliment each other and helps them to resolve any problems. This book had a bit less action then normal, but the poly love bonding was so worth it. It actually opens the door for more story evolution imo. I hope to see these boys in cameos in coming stories (hopefully!).
Sweet read but, kinda boring. Took me 4 days to read it. Mostly just a ‘day-in-the-life-of’ type story. Three demons who are learning to live together in the human world with their clueless, human roommate. It was more than halfway through the book before they discovered the mate bond. At around 70%, they finally make some kind of move. There is one sexy scene and while they are all in the same room, it was mostly like 2 couples who happen to be in the same room.
I’m all for slow burn and limited sexy times (or even no sexy times) but, there was no drama except for one quick ‘phobic’ scene.
Because that book was just the sweetest! I didn't know cute and cosy demon stories were a thing but I guess they are, and I'm all for it.
Just like book 0.5, My Demon Roommates is a nice slice of life featuring cute and kind-hearted demons that find love in the mortal realm and UGHHHH! Everything is so fluffy and nice and perfect that I just want to read in bed with a cup of tea and never ever hit the epilogue.
I'm still pretty curious about how the sun-plot is going to play out...
"What did you do to them?" I asked, and only then remembered whatever he'd done was magic, and he couldn't exactly talk about it in front of Dakota. "I just glared at them real hard. Seemed to help"
This is mostly about Dakota coming together delightfully with his three demon roommates, cozy slice-of-life style.
We know that Nico, Star, and Ryk are in the human world to hunt down escaped dark souls, as described in Summoning Chaos, but things only start happening towards the end. The next book sounds like it's all sweetness and light as well, so we'll se what happens.
Three demons and a human come together for a sweet romance book. Each character is loveable and some type of fluff but strong when needed. Ryk, Star, and Nico have magic lifted and find out that they are mates and bonus so is Dakota the human they like. The book is a light read where all grow together in the bond with each other and another human learns about Otherworld. These demons find the family they have been craving. Cannot wait for the next installment.
This was a cute low angst MMMM with some sweet demons and a calm and kind guy who lucked into being their roommate and mate. This is very much a slow, calm read with a focus on watching them become mates. I enjoyed the spin-off and seeing what happened with some of the demons after everything that happens in past books. I do wish we’d gotten a bit more relationship development. Everything just went really smoothly and sometimes the little bumps are what helps create that closer understanding and intimacy. Still, it was a sweet read - great for when you want something calm and cozy.
Fluffy fated mates romance. It follows three demons, Nico, Ryk, and Star and a Human Dakota. I'm not a fan of poly, but this was ok. These demons are funny, cute, and adorable. I prefer my demons much more dark and terrifying. I loved Dakota's parents and how much their support helped. We didn't get much on the escaped souls, so I hope the next book expands on that. Overall, this was a sweet read that I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would.
This book is amazing. Watching the relationship between Dakota, Nico, Ryk, and Star grow and be exactly what they all need is beautiful. I really like the way the characters are written and how you get to see what they're all thinking and feeling. The lore in this world is rich and the relevant parts are perfectly explained. This is another great book by an amazing author. I recommend this book!
I absolutely loved this story. This is loosely connected to the Otherworld series and while it can be read as a stand-alone, you might see a few favorite characters pop up. This was a fantastic and fun story. These four were all so very different and yet they just all worked so beautifully together. I highly recommend this story and I can’t wait for the next one.
My Demon Roommates was a very sweet read and follows three demons and one human. This is the start of the Demon Debaclees series, set in otherworld but can be read as a standalone. The book was well written and I really enjoyed reading about Dakota, Nico, Ryk & Star. Overall another great book from Stella Rainbow. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ryk, Star, Dakota, and Nico 3 lovely demons you’ll grow to love. Oh and you’ll love Dakota’s parents too. This is a fun a cute read. I enjoyed getting to know each Character. Now I’m guessing whose story is going to be next.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntary.
I really enjoyed this whole story. I loved how well these men just fit together and am glad that Dakota was good with the fact that he has 3 demons fated mates. All of these men are their own person/demon and really love each other openly. The fact that they are are so happy together just makes it even better. I can’t wait to see what happens next in their adventures.
This was my first MMMM book and I can honestly say that it won’t be my last! Great characters, fun times, some serious action and a couple of characters from the previous books make an appearance. I really enjoyed reading their story and how it all came together. Highly recommended
DNF at 50%. The writing comes off as shallow and juvenile. I believe that the author likely speaks English as a second language based on the author bio and unfortunately it shows. While I respect that the author is doing their best, it’s not worth the time for me to slog through a boring book to support someone’s effort.
Cute book, some tooth aching sweet scenes with not a lot of action to break it up. There was a lot of repeated info without variety of ways it was said. All in all, it was kinda just like a “day in the life” trope with characters who happened to not be human. And the reason they were on earth seemed to be an after thought plot line.
Cute story line. Enjoyed the world building and humor thought the book. However, I rate this as more of a young adult book rather than a MMMM romance. The steam that I would expect from this type of book was not there.. Steam factor I would rate 🔥. Plot-line and characters🌟🌟🌟
