I'm only reviewing the novellas and not the teasers (The Songbird teaser was super cute though)

Making Her Melt by Skye Warren: Ethan is in love with his best friend's girl, Lia, who also happens to be his OTHER best friend. Now Lia's single but Ethan continues to push her away because he thinks he's not good enough for her and also bro code blah blah blah. This novella was very mid, and it probably would've been great as a full-length romance to flesh out the dynamic between Chris/Lia/Ethan. Also, there's a scene where I thought this was going in a "why choose" direction and I got VERY excited, but it wasn't, and it bothered me the rest of the time I was reading it. Also, Lia and Ethan feeding each other pie was longer than their actual sex scene and I'm still mad about that! 2 stars.

My Present This Year by Sierra Simone: This was the Folgers Christmas commercial fan fic. This novella was why I downloaded this anthology in the first place lmao. A summary: Boy meets Girl at his mom's wedding, because Girl's dad is marrying Boy's mom. Now they're stepsiblings. Boy is so horny for his new stepsister that HE LEAVES THE COUNTRY TO JOIN THE PEACE CORPS. Boy returns home for Christmas because his mom, stepdad and stepsister are going on a cruise for a week, so he has the house to himself. Plot twist: Stepsister is staying home. Stepsister admits that she's been horny for stepbrother, stepbrother is like "SAME" and I think we all know what happens next lol They decide to date behind their parents backs for a while until they reveal that they've been sleeping together which will undoubtedly give both of their parents a heart attack, and ruin their marriage (I actually wanted to see this scene in an epilogue lmao) Oh, did I mention that Boy/Stepbrother is a PSYCHOLOGIST?!? YEP. But what if I told you this was the best novella out of the bunch? The power of Sierra Simone! 3 stars.

Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire by Julie Kent: This was so dumb I won't dignify it with a full review. One star.

Snowbound by Catherine Cowles: Emery seeks protection from a stalker and the only person who can protect her is her brother's best friend, Cooper. Additionally, Emery has carried a torch for Cooper for years. They confess their feelings for each other, sleep together and her stalker shows up and Cooper has to unalive him. This all happens within less than 40 pages. It’s a lot……1.5 stars.

A Very Dare Christmas by Carly Phillips: Billionaire husband tries to sexually manipulate his wife into hiring a nanny, so they can have more time together as a couple. It works and then she finds out she's pregnant with baby number 3 🙃1 star.

One Cruel Wedding Night by KA Linde: Marriage of convenience between a gorgeous, controlling billionaire who has particular needs in the bedroom (sound familiar?) and a beautiful ice princess socialite in desperate need of funds. They hate each other but not as much as they want to bang each other! This was fine but I've read at least 10 versions of the same story. 2 stars.

CW: stalking, gun violence (Snowbound) Dub Con between heroine and boyfriend (Making Her Melt)

This was a delight! Each story definitely had this "wrap me up" vibe going for it and was quite spicy. I could tell each story was different with how the writing style was and all equally delicious. The first holiday book of the year for me, and it won't be the last. Everything from forbidden love to marriage contracts. The only thing I didn't like was two or three other stories in it-not related to Christmas at all, which threw my mood off when reading it.

This book really put the "naughty" in the naughty list. I seriously will never think of the North Pole again the same way again.

Making Her Melt by Skye Warren
Deeply emotional, unbelievably hot, and with just the right amount of angst, this story wrapped me up in the feelings it evoked and pulled me into the moment with the characters. Best friends, best friend’s girl, unrequited love, unexpressed attraction, these two have it all going on, and when life is at it’s turning point for them both, they falter. But the fates won’t let them stay apart, and it takes some false starts, for them to get where they need, and desperately want, to be <3

2 really great stories. 2 meh ok stories. 4 terrible stories. I wish I wouldn’t have wasted time reading all of them, but Sierra Simone’s and KA Linde’s were fantastic. I recommend only reading those and skipping the rest.

A lot of these were just holiday specials from series or books that I didn’t read and this care nothing about. I’m sure they’d be great for people who read those series. But they annoyed the f out of me.

1. Songbird — Short and super unsatisfying. Not HEA, no smut. Very obviously the prelude to a currently nonexistent story. Wish it wouldn’t have been included in this anthology.

2. Making Her Melt — Super angsty forbidden friends to lovers (with a very very mild holiday flavor). Was wondering how this dynamic was going to work in such a short story. I was happy with the transition from (unavailable) friends to then lovers. Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of payout. The sex scene between her and her ex was more in-depth than the vague final scene between her and Ethan. Very abrupt ending. It was like the author had a strict word count limit and was suddenly approaching it so threw away the ending. :(

3. ⭐️ My Present This Year — Perfection. Taboo/ step-siblings and one helluva obscure reference that I am so excited I knew. Love it. 🤣

4. Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire — I was basically skimming this one because I could not gaf. The smut lasted for like 2 paragraphs. Was way too drawn out and way too over the top with “that didn’t happen” moments.

5. Snowed In — this needed to be slightly longer. Everything just felt too rushed. The stalker ex plot had promise, but it was all over too fast. The smut was very… floral? It was on the vague side and, like, not dirty? Idk how to describe it, other than not really my vibe.

6. A Very Dare Christmas — Another super obvious Christmas special from a series I didn’t read and care nothing about.

7. ⭐️ One Cruel Wedding Night — Enemies, marriage of convenience. This was great. And hot. And I am actually dying to read more about them. Added their main book to my TBR. Damn. 🥵

8. Skating on the Stars — THIS WAS VALENTINES DAY WTF THIS IS A CHRISTMAS ANTHOLOGY????? And also, it’s another holiday special from a book I know nothing about and care nothing about. There wasn’t enough info for a newbie to be able to follow along. Not even any smut to make it bearable. Bad. Terrible ending to the anthology.

This is a collection of Christmassy short stories.

Songbird was sweet and cute! Definitely had Christmas vibes, and I love the open-endedness the story left. A good start to the collection. This is one of my 2 favorites from the series. A poor woman loves to sing and has no family on Christmas Eve. She meets a dazzling stranger and they share a magical evening together. No spice. It was great.

Making Her Melt is a hot friends to lovers story. I enjoyed the tension in this one! There was a very weird sex scene that I thought was going to turn into something other than it was, but it didn’t. But this was pretty good.

My Present This Year is by the queen Sierra Simone and boy was this spicy and hot! Based on the Folgers commercial from like 10 years ago. 😂 but this delivered alllll the spice. Not much else lol. My other favorite from the collection.

Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire was not good. The title didn’t even make sense, and the premise was just bad. I don’t understand how this made it through editing. A group of mystery shoppers have to be Santa and a slutty elf, and somehow there’s a Russian scammer in it? Unhinged in a bad way.

Snowbound was okay but needed to be longer. A woman has a stalker and decides to run away to her brother’s best friend’s house in the middle of the night to escape him. Then he shows up. It’s only about 40 pages and needs to be twice as long for me to care about the characters. Not bad, but not great.

One Cruel Wedding Night is an arranged marriage between a billionaire and a broke socialite who hate each other but are attracted to each other. This has been done a lot. It’s just alright. The spice is decent, but that’s about all.

Songbird by LH Cosway and Penny Reid
(Re-read). Previiously read in another Christmas anthology.

Making Her Melt by Skye Warren
A good of unrequited love. Which - spoiler alert - becomes requited. (Is that a word?) lots of angst, but it’s good.

My Present This Year by Sierra Simone
(Re-read) I read this as a stand alone. It is peak Sierra Simone and I loved it.

Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire by Julia Kent
I feel like I’ve read this one before, but my notes say no. It is a funny, cute story with Shannon and Declan after they’ve been dating for 8 months or so. It’s a comedy of absurd ridiculousness.

Snowbound by Catherine Cowles
A romance between the brother’s best friend and brother’s little sis. It’s cute, although it does feature the crazy stalker ex, which is a really tiresome trope.

A Very Dave Christmas by Carly Phillips
A cute story featuring Ian Dare and his wife, a few years into marriage, figuring out how to be parents and stay happily married. (A non-trivial task.)

One Cruel Wedding Night by KA Linde
A modern day arranged marriage between a wealthy alphahole man and the pretty heiress who’s actually poor. The story is short, from the end of their wedding reception to the morning after. There is a really hot scene with some good hate-fucking.

Skating on the Stars by Debra Anastasia
A short engagement story between childhood friends to lovers. Cute.

Ten stories which vary in steam and intensity
Many of these stories appeared to be open-ended, HFN or a sneak peek at a story. One story I recognized and read the whole book instead because I happened to own it. Some are sweet Christmas stories of dreams really coming true while another was a very passionate arranged marriage romance between enemies. Great opportunity to see if you like the author’s style. I found that I owned a number of the books by these authors so I began reading one just because I had it and the sneak peek was interesting. Varied plots: close-proximity, step-brother and sister have a mutual attraction and there was even a paranormal story.
I can no longer find this book on Amazon.

very good anthology

A very good anthology by some excellent writers. A better anthology than many I’ve read. Some of the stories were associated with books or book series, but not all. I think I had only read an associated book by two of these authors, but I found these other stories worked well as standalones. I’ve been irritated by a few anthologies that were basically the first few chapters of existing books, and you’d have to read the actual book to finish the story. It felt like reading a series of advertisements and not a true anthology. In this book, I was able to enjoy each story on its own without feeling like I was being tricked. The variety was nice too.

Snowbound

This is a review for Catherine Cowles Snowbound.

You know you can’t have a Catherine book without some suspense. Emery left everything and everyone behind hoping she would finally be safe. After crashing on the side of the road she winds up trudging through the snow to none other that Cooper’s house. Her brothers best friend and the one that took her heart with him when he left.

This was short, sweet and exactly what I needed to get me into the holiday spirit. I loved that we get a quick into into Hayes as well who has his own book in Tattered Stars.

Swoony & Cozy Read

Snowbound by Catherine Cowles: Only days before Christmas and Emery is on the run, heading to the one man who’s ever made her feel safe…her brother’s best friend Cooper. This novella might be short, but like everything Catherine writes, it delivers a highly captivating story full of suspense, romance, and is guaranteed to give you all those HEA vibes. So grab a cup of hot chocolate and settle in for this swoony, cozy read.

4½ stars rounded up

Wrap Me Up - anthology
The anthology was advertised as having 8 short stories, but there were actually 9! Yay. Because L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid's story included a bonus story (5 stars) which was a crossover scene of separate books they wrote individually.
I rated the 9 Holiday short stories as follows:

3 stories were ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
2 were ★ ★ ★ ★
3 were ★ ★ ★

This anthology has 8 short stories by 8 different authors. Anthologies are always a nice way to meet new authors and see if they are someone you would enjoy reading more. A couple of the authors are regular reads of mine and a couple I know are authors I don't care for, but I read their shorts anyhow. Some were new, and one of those I will be reading more books from. Enjoy finding out if your new favorite author might be between the covers of this book.

My Present This Year by Sierra Simone and One Cruel Wedding Night by K.A. Linde both stories which I've read before in other anthologies. It's kind of crazy that they would release the same stories again. I enjoyed them but we could use wit newer stuff, I still enjoyed re-reading both stories.

Sierra Simone was a retelling of a Folgers commercial short story.
K.A. Linde was about Kathrine and Camden's wedding night.

A great collection of wonderful stories for the holidays. From Snowbound by Catherine Cowles, A very Dare Christmas from Carly Phillips to Once Cruel Wedding Night by K.A. Linde, the reader gets a pretty package under the tree filled with love, hope and a little bit of angst. A collection that should not be missed.

This Anthology is a wonderful collection of stories by some amazing authors. A Christmas collection with sweet tales of love and passion through this special season.
Making her melt by Skye Warren was my favourite as Lia and Ethan find their stride, after a crazy scene with Chris, Ethan’s best friend and Lia’s boyfriend. 🥵 And it is spicy 🥵

Short and sweet

I’ve never read anything else written by this author so I wasn’t familiar with the characters. I felt that I started reading a book in the middle. This was a short story. I will look into the other books written by this author to see where these characters fit in.

why do I keep reading anthologies?

Not satisfying at all. Tidbits of a story that isn’t really complete. One of them made no sense and probably was a prologue to a story I’ll never read. One was an epilogue to a story I think I read a long time ago. I shouldn’t have bothered wasting my time.

I finished reading this anthology with mixed emotions.

Some of the entries were fabulous! But a couple were so-so.

It's still worth it to pick up the book as there are some really good stories.

I feel like the books in this anthology were all over the place and I couldn't get into one long enough before it ended.
I also didn't enjoy that it wasn't so much holiday-themed stories as it was more "winter/cold" based stories.

This anthology simply wasn't for me. I didn't really get immersed in any of the stories and it felt like they were all over the place. This isn't so much a "holiday" anthology as it is a "winter" anthology if I'm being completely honest.
