Three The Shipbuilder of Enoch is the first installment of a fictional story on the life of the biblical Noah. It follows the life of Noah through the lens of an eagle called Eagle. This is a story that allows us into the everyday world of a man who lived thousands of years ago. It unpacks major themes of loss, grief, evil, relationships, love, connection, and healing. Through many fictional characters, Noah's life builds to become the man who would one day build an ark that would save his family and many of the animals from a worldwide flood.

The book has captured me in full! Reading the pages has felt like an invitation to experience the heart of God in a deeper way as a present Father, a loving friend, and a compassionate companion who understands the deep desires, pain, confusions and questions we carry within us. The book breaths life into the story of Noah and his fathers in such a vivid way giving a window into yourself and the ones you love. Matt invites you to think and unpack what sitting with God can look like, how relational He desires to be with us, the gift of choice and the wide open space to ask the hard questions. Most importantly it’s wooed my heart to sit with God a little longer and encounter Him in such personal ways.
And the illustrations by the artists Jessie, Willow and Zoey opens up your imagination!
If you’re on a path to encountering the true Father and understanding your own heart - it’s a must read!
The Three Floods is the captivating story of Noah, the shipbuilder of Enoch, many years before the biblical account of the flood. It invites you on a compelling journey as you join the characters as they navigate the challenges that face them. Matt Beckenham stirs the imagination as he uses fiction to explore some of the deeper questions that life presents to us, in a way that engages the heart. As a gifted writer, Matt draws you into the narrative right from the beginning and I began to feel the emotions and identify with the questions of the characters.
Noah appears as a young boy marked with the glow of the Designer’s (God) presence. He is one of the few who delight to answer the Designer’s invitation to sit with Him. The scene is set with Noah’s family around him. Powerful themes are introduced which are cleverly woven into the unfolding of the story. True fatherhood is examined through the lives of Methuselah (Noah’s grandfather) and Lamech (Noah’s father). Their conversations are deeply moving and highlight the lasting significance of a father’s words to his children, which have the potential to carry life and confidence through the generations.
The masterful use of dialogue often involving the Eagles (Narrator and Wisdom) and the Designer with many different characters, gives room to consider such crucial topics as the advance of evil, freedom of choice and the power of love. The ideas that emerge around these thoughts are central to the book and I enjoyed the way they provoked questions in my mind. I felt invited to sit with the Designer in an open space by a fire and ponder the magnitude of life and love. What it truly means to engage with Him in a deep way. No question is too much. He knows our thoughts and yet He invites us to voice them with no fear of rejection or punishment.
The flood of evil rises as men and woman choose to listen to the voices of the talking snakes instead of the Designer. There are disturbing episodes to work through as evil seems to be taking over. Why is this freedom of choice given if it leads to such destruction? What can one act of love do? Can we be restored to our true design? Does the Designer only have one plan? Can we gain through the pursuit of knowledge? What does it mean to speak truth but use love as our lens?
Come to this book with an open heart and mind to explore answers to your questions. Soar with the Eagles and dig deeper into the Designer’s love. Catch a glimpse of what is to come. Follow Noah and his friends on their adventure as they navigate difficult terrain, deal with tumultuous relationships and loss, but find love.
I found this book enthralling and I can’t wait for the next one
This book is exactly what our world and our hearts need right now. This author and his series has become one of my all-time favorite reads. I love how it invited me deeper into the biblical stories with fresh eyes and understanding, while tackling some of the hardest concepts of the Christian faith. Why does evil exist? Where is God in the face of such a breakdown in humanity that we see in the flood story?
The narrative led me into the presence of God to tackle these questions, and took me beyond the pages and into the heart of the Designer Himself. Three Floods is a must read - it will leave a mark on you.
