Everyone knows I’m not a fan of anthologies/collections, but I have now had the honour of reading both books by Sidney Shiv, and I’m blown away by each of these totally different, individual stories.
This book however, is all dedicated to that wonderful time of year…HALLOWEEN!! Every horror fan, and “goths” most favourite night, when the “veil between earth and the spirit realms is the thinnest”.
I liked each story, as they offered the reader a different take on Halloween…portals into another world, vampires, ghosts, pumpkin eaters, cannibalistic child killers, monsters, and a nice slice of revenge.
Of course I have my favourites… The Dream Door - by Leon Saul Samhain Plane - by Sidney Shiv The Girl With Jack-O’-Lantern Eyes - by Tom Folske Turned To Black - R. J Daly
Each story was awesome, in its own right, and a huge respect to Sidney, and the other authors for weaving great little tales for ANY horror fan to enjoy.
I absolutely loved every single story in this anthology. Of course I liked some not than others, but if I was rating each story individually they would all get 5 stars. Sidney Shiv did a fantastic job selecting the stories for this anthology. Each one takes you on a terrifying Halloween journey. And the illustrations really brought the stories to life.
I enjoyed this gory and gross Halloween anthology. Many of the tales were perfect for putting the reader in the mood for spooky season.
The only downside was that some of these stories seemed like they needed a bit more polishing: parts of the short stories were confusing or seemed to be in contradiction to the overall plot at times.
Also, more details and descriptions would enhance the reader’s experience.
My favourite story was “Samhain Plane”. Not only was the plane situation nerve wracking, but Lee certainly was a creepy character!
“Fall Equinox” is an absolutely ghastly anthology that is perfect for Halloween and Horror lovers, especially if your tastes are a bit more on the sick and depraved side. This 9 tale anthology is a gorey fest of viscera, innards and your favorite Halloween sweets! It starts out with “The Dream Door”, a sleepy slow burn story that starts off almost cozy in a way, but by the end you’ll understand the awful (in all the best ways) journey you’re about to embark on throughout the rest of these pages. I felt that all the stories not only culminated into a fantastic collection, but they all also stood out well on their own. While I enjoyed all the stories, I was personally blown away by the last story, “Turned to Black”. I would love to have that story expanded into a full blown novel. Absolutely incredible. If you’re a fan of the splatterpunk revenge sub genre, this will without a doubt be your favorite, too.
Honorable 5 star mention for “Turn to Black”! ✨✨✨✨✨
