This edition combines the first two volumes of the Stitch! manga series.
I love Stitch, and I love manga…… but together, would they be any good? I wasn’t quite sure at first….But if a book can put a smile on my face the entire time I’m reading it, then, surely, it is a good book, right? Well, that’s what the Stitch manga did for me- and here’s why I enjoyed it so much.
First off, the idea of Stitch going in adventures in Japan is a really fun idea, that quickly grew on me. It’s not the same as the movie, but rather, it’s something like an alternate dimension. But, while reading, I realized that was okay. And, to be honest, it works perfectly. The drawings for Stitch were adorable, Yumi really knows how to draw cute creatures.
As for our protagonist, please, don’t listen to the reviews calling Yuna a brat… she’s really just a sweet child with a tiny bit of a temper. Many of the chapters showed what a kind, loving girl she is. I don’t know where the reviewers got the ‘brat’, but that’s really not who she is. I also love her character design, it’s very cute, fun, and perfect for this book. Also, the whole ‘Ichariba choodee’ thing, instead of ‘ohana means family’, was adorable.
The extra characters for Yuna’s story are Pleakley, Jumba, Kouji and Piko, and Yuna’s grandmother. Pleakley and Jumba are from the movie, and they pretty much act the same as normal, besides Pleakley being just a little more eccentric and enjoying cosplay to a bit of a crazy degree. The grandmother, Kouji and Piko, are new characters, and I don’t really care for any of them. They are, all-in-all, pretty boring.
Still, what this book manages to bring to the table is nothing to scoff at. It is just so cute and episodic, with a crazy amount of re-read value. I’d love to read it again, because just sitting down with the book for the first time was making me smile so much, and giving such a warm, happy feeling to my heart. I don’t know what it is, but something about the story is filled with so much joy, it just rubs off on you. Some of my favorites chapters were the ones featuring the adorable Angel, Stitch playing with a little kid, and the special ones that featured Lilo. The artwork overall is quite simple, though, and I wasn’t a fan of how Nani was drawn, but I’m able to get past that.
In the end, I loved this book, and if you love Stitch, manga, or just overall cute things, I think you'll enjoy this book as well! It’s more than worth reading, it’s such a happy book, it nearly feels like a vacation!
(This book contains a girl and Stitch bathing (they are covered), and a later scene where two girls are bathing (not fully censored at the top, but it is very undetailed, they are drawn like babies.) It also contains some fantasy violence, some yokai, a woman dating, innocent, childlike crushes, and also, some mild bullying. Besides this, Pleakley often cross dresses (like he does in the movie, but I feel like it is a little more here.) Still, I would give this book an age rating of all-ages!)
Not enough Lilo. I very much don't get why this manga replaces Lilo with a very similar but less emotionally complex little girl named Yuna. I get that Stitch is way more popular, but it just doesn't seem the same without her. That said... this is a manga for kids, kids like my seven year old niece who just really like Stitch. And I really don't think she would care that much that Lilo isn't here.
You kind of have to just not worry about continuity, I guess. These are pretty much slice of life stories. Stitch is first with Yuna in Japan. Jumbaa and Pleakley eventually start appearing. And then Lilo starts appearing about 100 pages in for some stories before Stitch is back with Yuna again. Illustrations were cute, I suppose.
This was super adorable! I love the art style and the mix of new characters and characters straight from Lilo & Stitch was such a fun experience.
This manga is like a collection of short stories! Some of them continue the same story while others are their own little tale so if that’s not your thing this won’t be for you.
Man... I really wanted to like this because I LOVE Lilo and Stitch. But I am realizing that if you take Lilo out of the equation, I don't enjoy Stitch as much. Overall, it was cute. But I didn't love it.
This collection is made up of two volumes and both volumes are made up of short stories. The stories themselves are hit or miss. There appears to be continuity issues that don't make any sense considering that this (mostly) seems to be an alternate timeline. Despite that, it was fun.
So many people don't like this book....and I don't know why!! I thought it was super cute, seemed just like Stitch and I didn't really find Yuna annoying, she just acts like a kid! You should give this book a try!
Mischievous Stitch teams up with temperamental Yuna for his compilation of misadventures. The audience is even treated to a reprieve with Lilo! But really, it's Stitch! What's not to love?
I didn't like Lilo's replacement and even with some of the Lilo issues, she felt incredibly OOC. A kid will enjoy the lack of continuity but I certainly didn't as an adult lol.
