James Dean is the original creator and illustrator of Pete the Cat. He is a self-taught artist originally from Fort Payne, Alabama. His passion for drawing became apparent at a young age, and as a child, you could find James drawing his favorite characters like Snoopy and Yogi Bear.
James earned his degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and went on to work for Georgia Power for a number of years. Eventually, he was called to pursue his art full- time and began selling his work at art festivals around the Southeast. It was during this time that he began creating paintings and drawing of his cat, Pete. The little blue cat showed up as a character in James’s artwork around 1999 and has been a permanent fixture ever since.
James Dean’s art has been sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006, and he illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, in 2008. There are now almost 100 published Pete the Cat titles with more coming out all the time. James is humbled every day by the success that this groovy blue cat has brought him. He says positively affecting children’s lives is his number one priority, and he is grateful to have such an amazing audience to work for.
This was a cute early comic book though it didn't feel like a typical Pete the Cat read. There was nothing groovy about it which was disappointing. There were also some made-up words which I don't like being in early readers because to me, that defeats the purpose of an early reader. Again, I enjoyed this story and I loved that they taught kids how to read a comic book in the beginning before the story started. I just didn't get the Pete the Cat feelings from this one, but maybe other Pete the Cat fans will disagree.
Pete the cat gets called out to investigate some noise and lights at the playground. What he finds there is a spaceship that takes him into outer space. As he gets pulled into a larger alien ship, what will happen to Pete?
This was a fun one to read. I loved the spaceships, aliens, and the end of the story!
This book allows your kids to read the series themselves. Some of the words and made up words I don't think fit into a level 1. If you like the series check it out. If you haven't liked the series in the past this one won't change your mind.
Pete the Cat and the Space Chase is a great book for young readers! It is fun and adventurous book that surrounds Pete the Cat in Space, it had colorful illustrations and an engaging text.
Agent Meow gets a call about strange lights on the playground at night. While investigating, he comes across an alien spaceship. No aliens appear to be around so Agent Meow takes it for a spin. But who left the spaceship there and why?
Don't worry, only friendly aliens in this story. It's a mix of adventure and mystery, with a drive by of Mars. An enjoyable scifi mystery adventure for little Pete the Cat/Agent Meow fans.
When Pete the Cat finds an empty spaceship on the playground he gets in and accidentally launches it into space. When he runs out of gas, Pete is rescued and taken to another planet, where he receives a great surprise.
