Like almost everyone in California, six companions who gather regularly at the bar of L.A's El Gato Cafe are swept up in lottery mania, as the current Powerball prize grows into the hundreds of million dollars. Pooling their resources, the Boys of the bar begin playing weekly, vowing that should one win, all will share the prize equally.
Against all odds, they do indeed win, and with those winnings, they buy El Gato. Eager to return the restaurant to old days and old ways -- when there was a happy hour and parking was free and the cost of food and drink didn't set one back a week's pay -- the Boys discover that running El Gato the way they want to is not as easy -- or as much fun-- as they thought it would be. Especially when of them secretly undermines their partnership by selling El Gato franchise rights to a private equity firm.
Pipe Dream is about how the Boys win back those rights, remove themselves from El Gato's ownership, and return the Cafe to those who are best suited to keep it as it always was and ever should be.
