The minute my new boss steps foot in the conference room, my dream job turns into a nightmare.
Jude Reed and I already met. Last night. In a bar. We danced. We kissed. I ditched him... Let’s just say I’m not ready to be a carefree city girl yet. And let's just say Mr. Reed holds a grudge.
Working for Jude is not what I signed up for, and he won’t be winning Boss of the Year anytime soon. Between his sky-high expectations and cryptic explanations, he has the entire office on their toes.
"Grumpy" doesn't begin to describe him.
Or so I thought...
Because the more time I spend around him, the more his tough exterior crumbles, revealing someone as sweet as his secret baking talent.
There's a reason he plays an intimidating role that strikes fear into his employees, but just knowing there's a caring man behind the mask doesn't mean I'm suited to be anything more than his assistant.
No matter how irresistible he is.

Marion De Ré is a closed-door romantic comedy author. She lives in the French countryside with her husband and adorable cat. You can expect all your beloved tropes in her writing as well as a good dose of humor and all the feels. When she's not reading or writing, you can find her on a plane to a far-away destination.

Resisting My Boss is the second book in the For The Love of Rom-coms series written by Marion De Ré. This book is a funny, grump/sunshine rom-com workplace romance that will have you smiling from ear to ear.
Lina, the MFC, is an American who has recently moved to London for her dream job in the fashion industry. One night after work, Lina joins her co-worker at a nearby bar, where she meets an attractive man. She enjoys his company but decides she’s not ready to let her guard down. Although she says she will leave with him, she stands him up and leaves the bar alone. The following day, she discovers a new boss, who is none other than Jude Reed, the guy she met at the bar. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, which creates a tense work environment for them both. As Lina and Jude spend more time together, the feelings between them grow; however, circumstances prevent them from being together. The story follows Lina and Jude as they navigate their clear attraction for each other and the possible consequences of exploring what could be.
This is a fast-paced, light-hearted, happily-ever-after read. This was my first time reading a closed-door rom-com with fade-to-black scenes. This book is well-written and includes lots of witty banter. The lack of detailed spicy scenes did not leave me feeling like something was missing. The characters, the main and supporting, are relatable. I loved the inclusion of dual POVs. Lina is happy-go-lucky and kind, while Jude is the grumpy workaholic who is also a protective, caring guy with a sense of humor. I couldn’t help but fall in love with Jude! This was an enjoyable read with unpredictable twists and turns, and I look forward to reading more written by Marion De Ré.
If you’re in the mood for a fun rom-com with characters that give readers more than what meets the eye, check this out.

An other amazing story from Marion De Re . Lina is an American who has just moved to London to work at her dream job as the assistant of the editor in chief of Fashion Warehouse under the famous Armade Simon . That turns to nightmare is that their boss replace her editor with his son Jude which happen to be the man she ditch last night after a passionate kiss in a club but then she was London Lina . Now they have to work together and she doesn't think she can fight their attraction . When they travel for Fashion week they share an other kiss but when Monday she doesn't show up at work Jude thinks it's because of it but it is because she is sick . Then he take care of her and because her apartment is in bad condition he ask her to move in with him until she finds somewhere better to live . Living together makes her find more about him and fall in love with him . Then they decide to be together but noone must know because they don't allow relationship with coworkers in their workplace and he must succeed to get his shares that his grandpa left him so his father won't win . What will happen when his father learn about his relationship with Lina ? Will he choose his love or his job ? I received this book from the author and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own .
Resisting my Boss is about a girl, Lina, from Vermont who moves to London for her dream job. She meets a guy, Jude, in a bar one night out who eventually turns out not to be such a stranger after all!
I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of this book and I loved loved loved it!! I’m such a hopeless romantic and this book is probably one of my new favorite romance books. The amount of times I was smiling at my kindle or wanting to kick my feet in the air from the moments between the Lina & Jude were endless!! To me the books was giving off a lot of vibes from two of my fav shows - The Bold Type & Emily in Paris.
* Fashion industry * Boss // assistant * Unexpected love * Dual POV
5⭐️
I definitely recommend this book! It is in a series but can be read as a stand-alone!
this is just a basic rom com with a workplace romance and boss x employee. i love the writing of this book it’s captivating i can’t stop reading. i love the main characters so so much!! jude and lina have this relationship that i really admire they’re just so full of tension i love them!! the third act breakup is just so unnecessary but i still enjoyed this overall. there’s a few reason why i didn’t gave this 4 stars like i said there’s some parts are just unnecessary and it’s bit too long for them to just confess to each other even tho they just act like a couple. but i do recommend this book if you want a short workplace romance!!!
First of all, I would love to thank Marion De Ré for sending me an ARC of her novel in return for an honest review of this book. I really appreciate this opportunity and I am glad I can share my take on this novel.
In this novel, Lina (FMC) packs up her life in the U.S. and moves to London in order to work at her dream Fashion company. While settling into her new life, she meets Roxy, her coworker and soon-to-be bestie who invites her to a night out at a club. At this club, Lina becomes charmed by a dashing young gentleman who has a "proper English accent that reminds me of Henry Cavill". Lina feels pretty enamored by this man but this reckless party girl who sleeps around is not who Lina truly is, so she does what any socially awkward person does and ditches her date at the club. Now comes Jude (MMC), a nepo baby (lol) and son of the big boss at Lina's company, who just so happens to be the guy Lina ghosted (shocker). In this novel, Lina and Jude navigate their complicated and awkward relationship questioning if they want to pursue their romance or if their jobs are more important to them.
So, I think it should be noted that I am particularly picky with romance stories because while I love touching moments, I can't stand clichés and often find them fairly cringe. Immediately, I was turned off by just how overexaggerated the author wrote out Lina's awkwardness to be. Like yes, we understand she doesn't like being mean, we read about this in practically 50% of the books being published nowadays. Jude on the other hand, is introduced as a really funny and charming guy which I liked because it's refreshing, but on the other hand, his background is so blah. Like the hot guy with the English accent has daddy issues and now he has to prove that he's capable of being responsible in order to earn his Grandfather's shares in the company. Essentially, picture a 2015 Wattpad fanfiction written by a 13-year-old who just discovered they could create a make-believe romance between them and Niall from 1D. (I'm so sorry but this is literally what reading this felt like). Furthermore, I didn't really like how fast the story progressed. Like okay, we're introduced to the idea that Jude is Lina's boss, then all of a sudden (literally a page after they meet), Jude is asking Lina to go to Fashion Week with him...? Where is the sexual tension between them after finding out their almost hookup is their new coworker?
Okay, but one thing I do love about this book is that the author is an excellent writer. The language was easy to understand, readers could easily grasp and digest all of the ideas thrown at them. I also do like the touch that Jude fell hard and fast but it was kind of annoying because he wouldn't stop mentioning how he constantly f'd things up every time something happened. I think there are many redeeming qualities: Jude was described to be very charming with cutesy hobbies like baking, but in my opinion, this story is so predictable that it completely outweighs the positives.
The reason why I think it's a 2.5 is that I personally didn't enjoy the 'clichéness' of the story, but I will admit it's a relatively heartwarming story where .
I wish this book was longer and I really hope it gets to all the audience it deserves
This book reminded me of The Devil Wears Prada. They’re not exactly the same but the vibes are very similar. Since it’s fashion based, you’ll catch on
I love how the sparks were flying at first. It wasn’t rushed. It was normal paced which is nice because it made it more realistic
I really liked the details of the fashion magazines and the outfits and the galas and dinners and the apartments. I know some people who don’t really like details but I love them. I appreciate them so much. Helps me see the book more vividly
Lina’s past is heartbreaking but everything about it was written sensitivity and I love how she turned out to be a tough cookie. I loved the idea of telling her mom what she’s wearing
I also really LOVE men who get jealous and aren’t scared of being vulnerable around their person. Big growth. I loved it
This was a very easy read. It’s such a comfort book. I’d like to have the physical book for myself one day so I can reread and annotate it. The quotes in this book were great and so much of it was relatable. The only thing I didn’t like was that the book was UNFORTUNATELY short
The author is really talented. Her style in writing is like Taylor Swift’s lyric writing. I don’t know what it is exactly but reading it felt really nice and I just wanted to know more and more
Thank you Marion De Re for my complimentary copy of Resisting My Boss. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Resisting My Boss is a sweet romantic comedy set in London with a side trip Paris. Of course I was all in for this one ! Set in the world of fashion, it has Emily in Paris vibes.
I had to chuckle when a mear 26 pages in our MC Lina tells of how she almost got run over by a cab. This exact same thing happened to me when we were in London. Darn those cars on the wrong side of the road. I admit to being surprised at Lina and Jude’s horrible pasts. But they make a wonderful stepping stone for their growth and understanding of each other.
Make sure and sign up for Marion’s newsletter. You’ll receive an extended epilogue AND Grandpa’s recipes.

Thankyou to NetGalley and Booksiren for this great book!
As an avid romance reader, there’s nothing quite like stumbling upon a new author whose book you instantly fall head over heels for. That’s exactly what happened when I found Resisting My Boss on NetGalley. By the first chapter, I knew it was going to be a new favorite. It’s a lighthearted office romance set in London, where the characters work at a fashion magazine—how fun does that sound already? And it gets better: the hero can bake! He’s a grumpy boss who rocks designer suits like nobody’s business... but also whips up some amazing baked goods. Chef’s kiss 😙
Lina was my absolute favorite character—so relatable, funny, smart, and just the kind of heroine you want to root for. Jude, the hero, was the ultimate book boyfriend—charming, witty, and totally swoon-worthy. The way their relationship develops is so well done, and I loved seeing them bring out the best in each other.
If you’re looking for a feel-good rom-com, Resisting My Boss is definitely a must-read. Lina and Jude have incredible chemistry, and their grumpy/sunshine dynamic makes for tons of fun banter, plenty of tension, and a romance that would make Hallmark want to turn it into a movie.
Now, while I’m a big fan of spice, I have to admit that this book left me wanting more in that department. Some books just need that explosive moment to really make the romantic tension pay off—and I feel like Resisting My Boss was one of those. The slow build-up between Lina and Jude was fantastic, but when it came to the romantic payoff, it felt a bit underwhelming. After all that chemistry, a fade-to-black moment just didn’t quite do justice to the tension they’d built. I was left thinking, “That’s it? After all that build-up, we get a simple kiss?” It definitely left me craving more.
Overall, though, Resisting My Boss is an entertaining, light-hearted read that you won’t want to miss, especially if you’re into sweet, playful office romances. ❤️
Hating My Boss was such a fun and sweet workplace romcom. I loved diving into Lina's story, I really liked her in the first book. These can definitely be read as standalones, but you definitely benefit from reading in order.
Lina and Jude had amazing chemistry, they both became vulnerable with each other and opened up, I loved seeing that. Jude is such a grump in the beginning but when he drops his guard he's just the sweetest. I was rooting for them and couldn't wait for them to KISSSSS !!
The double POV was great, I love getting to see it from both perspectives. This was truly a super sweet read.
For all my workplace romance, off limit tension and forced proximity lovers you'll love this one! This is a closed door/fade to black in terms of spice.
✨️Thank you to @mariondere for my free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve been reading and reviewing Marion’s books for a while now and she surprises me every time! Her books bring a sense of joy and comfort that makes it hard to put them down, and they usually let you travel to different parts of the world through the stories which I always enjoy.
The second book in the series, this one revolves around Lina who was introduced in the first book (bestie of the FMC) If you know me, you know that I take book dedications very seriously. So naturally when I read this one, I immediately knew I was going to not only love the book, but also add another book boyfriend to my ever increasing list! The MMC- Jude, is everything I’d want my dream man to be. He’s British, works in fashion (aka has great style) sexy as hell, sworn off relationships until he meets HER, and HE BAKES! What makes the story so much more fun and interesting is the fact that they work together. I got to live my little fantasy through Lina (never had male bosses! Not that I’d actually date one if I did) Their relationship has the perfect amount of banter, sass and swoony moments. I loved seeing Jude slowly open up to Lina, and Lina letting her guard down around Jude. Getting to see glimpses of Charlotte again was refreshing. If you’ve read book 1 and loved Charlotte and Ian, don’t miss this one coz there’s a sweet surprise for you!
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m already missing Jude and Lina, and I also want to visit London now! If you’re looking for a sweet, closed door romance with lots of banter and swooning, add this to your list stat!
The best thing for me as an avid romance reader is to stumble upon new romance authors whose book I immediately fall in love with. I found Resisting My Boss on netgalley and within first chapter I knew this will be my new favorite book. It's a light hearted, set in London office romance and they both work in fashion magazine!!! Doesn't this already sold you on the book ? Then hear this, the hero can bake too! He is a grumpy boss who rocks designer suits like no one but also bakes ! Chefs kiss 😙 Lina was my absolute favorite and I related to her so much. She was funny, smart, kind and I loved her. Jude was the ultimate hero and so much fun to read. I loved how thier relation progressed through out and how they brought best out of each other. This book is definitely a must read if you are looking for a light hearted romcom. ❤️
It was okay. There was a plot, of course, but a somewhat weak one. I feel like it was enemies-to-lovers and instalove combined, which I didn't like (because of the instalove, just to clarify). Honestly I probably wouldn't have picked up this book anyway except it was free on Kindle, so take that as you will.
Content: Clean. No explicit scenes. D-words, but no f- or s-words. TW: kidnapping, parental neglect.
A nice clean romance. Good storyline, but not enough spice for my liking. The hero comes across a little soft, but that’s okay. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
cute!!! ok jude is great, but in the beginning, he did NOT know how to talk to lina! he kept saying ‘why are you getting so worked up about this’ and stuff like that. it was kinda annoying. other than that it was great!
Obsessed with this book! It was the perfect romcom and exactly what I needed to put a smile on my face. I loved the banter, the tension, the swoon level. Everything. The writing is captivating and you just can't put it down. There's no filler, every scene is important and that was so refreshing compared to the books I read lately. Marion De Re is the queen of closed door kissing scenes. I read across all heat levels and I did not miss my spice! The closed door scenes were FIRE. Who knew closed door could be so sexy Run to pick this one up! Workplace romance/forbiden romance at its finest!
SUCH A GOOD SERIES LOVING IT SO MUCH!!! AGHHH CANT WAIT FOR THE THIRD ONE! THIS BOOK DEFINITELY GOT ME ANNOYED ONLY CUZ THEY WEREN’T TOGETHER IN SOME AREAS!!!
Synopsis: Lina just got her dream job in a new country. After meeting a handsome man in a bar, she would not expect that he will be her boss. How they will deal the attraction working side by side?
🌶️Heat Level: Fade to Black+Close Door Scenes Innuendo/Language Attraction/Tension:🔥🔥🔥🔥
My opinion: It's a very fun story, I liked the references to 'Devil Wears Prada' and the characters are very likeable. I like that the characters aren't just one thing, they're not too grumpy, too sunny, too soft, etc. Making them with more personality is more relatable and believable. And I also liked the approach on the trauma without being heavy. If you like an off-limits romance, I recommend this one.
TW:Lost of a relative to Cancer (Past), PTSD from Kidnapping (Sleep Paralysis).
*I received a free review copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.*
Loved this second book in the For Love of Rom-Com series. This can be read as a standalone book. There are a few trigger warnings for this book but the author addresses them with thoughtfulness and care. The romance between Lina and Jude is sweet and I love the scenes in the kitchen. This clean romance is a super fun, fast read that will leave you smiling.
This book won over my heart within the first chapter. We meet Lina who has left the comfort of her family home in Vermont to her dream job at a fashion magazine with one of the most coveted editors in London. The move was a big change for her and it’s taken her time to adjust. She decides to break out of her shell and go out with her coworker, Roxy. The evening drags and just when she thinks the night is over, some drunk guy puts his hands on her. She tells him she’s not interested but he’s not catching on and before she can tell him again, a guy tells him firmly to buzz off. Lina tells him she has it under control but he insists he should help her. Her would-be hero is Jude. They have drinks, dance and the chemistry between them is enough to melt the book pages. You see the spark, the heat between them, but Lina isn’t ready for whatever this is. So she chickens out and skirts out of the building before she changes her mind and ends up in bed with this man.
Lina’s dream job has just taken a turn for what might be the worse when she hears that her editor, whom she moved across the country for, is leaving for a job in New York and can’t take Lina with her. She assured Lina that the new editor is amazing and there is nothing to worry about but when Lina’s she’s who just walked through the door, her world falls out beneath her at the sight of Jude Reed, as in one of the Reeds of Reed Media. She can’t believe the man she was kissing and ran out on is standing before and he’s her new boss.
They don’t exactly hit it off and the dual point of view helps you follow the couple as they navigate their pasts and present situation. I enjoyed watching their friendship and chemistry build over the chapters. There are a few shockers but overall the story between them just grows and you can’t help falling in love. Jude is dreamy and Lina is very likable too. I enjoyed all the bits about Fashion Week and some of the darker sides of what the industry must be like. Some very sweet moments of tenderness leave you swooning and hoping for a true happily ever after.
If you’ve read other works by the author she already gave us a guy who you couldn’t help but fall in love with, Jack from the Only Girls Trilogy. Well, ladies, Jack has been replaced with Jude, my new favorite.
I received an advanced copy of this book and wanted share my thoughts with you! I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I did!
I fell in love with this book and the characters within the first two chapters. We met Lina in Hating Thy Neighbor as the roommate of Charlotte. This is Lina's story. Lina has dreamt of working in fashion since she was a little girl. She has finally gotten her chance. The only catch is that she has to move from the US to London. She takes the plunge and moves to London to work at Fashion Warehouse magazine. One of her co-workers talks her into going out on the town one evening where she meets a dreamboat guy. She slips out and leaves him in the dust. The next day, to her horror and dismay, she realizes that this guy she ghosted is none other than her new boss and the magazine owner's son, Jude Reed. These two characters will tell their story from dual points of view, as they get to know one another better.
Lina is technicolor and Jude is black and gray. Lina is alive and happy, and Jude is a workaholic and grumpy. They are are polar opposites and fight their attraction to one another, although the chemistry is sizzling off of the pages.
I loved getting an inside look at the fashion world with all its glamour. The descriptions of the clothing, the shows and the parties allowed me live vicariously through the pages of this book as if I was present as well.
Lina was a fighter who knew what she wanted in life and was willing to fight for it. Jude was a swoony character who had a big heart, and for the cherry on top, he could bake. I inhaled this book in one afternoon. I felt empathy for Lina as she fought to overcome something in her childhood that haunted her to this day. I also felt empathy for Jude as he fought to be the son that his father would love, but nothing he could do would change his father's nasty disposition. His backstory was so sad. This book would make a wonderful movie. I found myself cheering for Lina and Jude. They needed each other. Romcom lovers will devour this book.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Resisting My Boss is an adorable, sweet story. I loved the characters and their deep connections. The way they supported each other and all the fun fashion events.
Jude is more miserable than he realizes as he fights to fulfill the requirements of his grandfather’s will in order to earn shares in the family’s successful fashion magazine business. He’s got a huge bank account, a great job, a stunning penthouse in a great London neighborhood, and no one to share it with. His father, the biggest jerk there is, does everything he can to make sure Jude doesn’t succeed and threatens him at every opportunity.
Lina is fun, quirky, smart, beautiful, and doesn’t know how special she is. It takes Jude two seconds and one kiss to figure it out when they meet at a bar. He asks her to extend the night, but she ditches him. One uncharacteristic hour is enough for Lina. She doesn’t kiss random guys at a bar, no matter how stunning they are or how they make her feel. She puts it out of her kind and doubles down at work, her main reason the South Carolina girl is living in London. She’s landed her dream job as the assistant editor in chief at a women’s fashion magazine.
Soon after she’s finally settled, she gets the news that the editor she adores is being promoted, and the magazine is getting a new editor…it’s Jude! Now, these two seemingly opposites (although, deep down, they’re not so different) have to work closely together while fighting their mutual attraction to keep from losing their jobs.
This is a sweet, closed-door romance with all the feels and an even sweeter HEA. It’s hard not to like a tough, no-nonsense executive MMC with a hidden soft side. Jude is a great guy who’s figuring out what he wants out of life. He’s not perfect, and his communications skills need work, but he has a big heart you can’t help but melt over. Lina is the cutest and adore her.
Resisting My Boss is the second book in the For the Love of Rom-Coms series. While you might see some familiar characters, you can definitely enjoy this just fine as a standalone as well.
We first met Lina in Hating Thy Neighbor as Charlotte's best friend, so I was very excited to get her story... and it did not disappoint. The story starts as she is adjusting to her new job in a new country. When she goes to a bar with her new coworker, she meets and kisses a stranger, something that is uncharacteristic of her... but she stands him up before it goes any further. When she shows up to work the next day, she learns that the man from the bar is her new boss. Talk about awkward! Their chemistry throughout the story is absolutely wonderful, whether it's in the banter or the romance and I found I really enjoyed them together. Of course, I'm always a sucker of those moments when he takes care of her--- both in the instances of being sick and in just being protective--- and we definitely see that in Jude, making him all that much more enjoyable to read! Without giving away any spoilers, the way it all works out in the end? I absolutely adored it! Marion De Ré has such an effortless writing style that I find really enjoyable. It feels lighthearted and cozy, even in moments where the topics go a little heavier.
Resisting My Boss is a closed-door romance. It does have implied intimacy, but everything is off the pages with no details given. There is also some mild language throughout the story as well. The author always does a great job with reader expectations, so be sure to check that out to decide if this one's for you!
**I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.
