This was another excellent Sapphic monster romance from Darva Green, with lore and just enough plot to achieve the balance I like with my monster spice.
I wasn't familiar with the nocnitsa, at least by that name, until this story. I love the Slavic lore infused with this universe (book one is Natalia's cousin!) and can't wait to see what creature comes next (literally). Nox was fascinating because she's largely a shape-morphing shadow monster who feeds on fear; so when she's holding herself back initially, this presented a unique form of monstrous restraint. This is no vampire fighting bloodlust or a werewolf resisting the chase - it's a nightmare creature trying not to inspire fear. L o v e d. And the little details, like her shadows morphing into different styles of dresses whenever she appeared, were perfect. As were every mention of her claws and purple coloring.
Natalia was an excellent human partner for Nox, a spunky ballerina who also pole-dances and rides a Harley. Though she was sheltered growing up, she has dimension as a character. There's an adorable scene where she invites Nox in and the nosy nocnitsa pokes through all her stuff, so charming.
Their chemistry was great. Nox was the "monster watching from the woods" archetype, except via nightmares, and never in an invasive or creepy way. One of the love scenes presented the sexiest use of an altar I can think of. And Natalia finds her own power to balance out the pair; I loved that Green employed the concept in witchcraft of an aroused state as more conducive to Casting, during a ritual near the end.
Perfectly balancing sexiness and plot, She Came At Midnight is a more than worthy successor to She Came From The Swamp.

4 stars. I liked this much more than the first book. This felt more fleshed out and developed and I really loved the characters. The writing was great, the smut was fire, and there was even some action scenes in the end there where the stakes felt high.
Natalia and Nox were both wonderful characters. Nox is a monster who haunts Natalia’s dreams and once she feeds she can cross over into the real world. It was such an interesting concept and it really worked for me. I loved the way that Nox was described with her purple skin and her wings. I loved her character as well. She’s toppy, seductive, with a hint of danger. Yes, please. The chemistry between her and Natalia was hot and I thought they were wonderful together.
Overall, this was a fun and spicy read. I’m here for all sapphic monster smut because I deserve nice things dammit.

5 stars - this was a perfect little snack of paranormal romance. The story hooked me right away. Also both MCs are likable and interesting. I have no idea if the lore was real but it felt like it was and that’s all that mattered. Spice was very good too. I really enjoyed this and just wish it had a better cover. Kindle Unlimited.

Al final se me ha vuelto a quedar un poco flojo, sí, pero me lo he pasado mejor. No sé si las novelas sáficas son lo mio pero todavía tendré que catar a otras autoras para hacerme la idea.

The first book in the series "Dreamers and Demons" - "She Came from the Swamp" had many magical elements, but "She Came at Midnight" *whoa*! We got lots of world-building with Natalia. And the magical elements on this book were on point 🤌, imo.
Needless to say that the 2nd is my favorite! 👻

meh?????? se que es una novela corta y no tengo que esperar mucho respecto a desarrollo y eso (y justamente esa parte no me molesto) pero fue meh, aparte había escenas donde el dialogo te dejaba mucho que desear, pero bueno hay lesbianas y una de ellas es un MONSTRUO así que LET'G GO LESBIANS LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've read 2 books so far in the series and think it's a trilogy. Not sure, meed to check. But I know there will be a 3rd one. Waiting for ut to be available on my book app. Bit funny, some serious moments with a cute and spicy romance. So far I really liked both fmc in the audiobooks. Looking forward tothe next one. Oh and I was surprised on how much I enjoyed to read about a nightmare creature.

Oh, I really liked this. It delves a bit deeper into the world Green introduced in She Came From the Swamp, and all the glimpses I’ve gotten so far only make me want more books from her. Loved the protagonist, her family trauma, and the way she learns to embrace her own sort of power. The romance really builds from her being protected to her being in charge of what she wants, and I think that’s great. Huge plus that there’s some Halloween atmosphere.
I normally don’t rate books, but I’m giving this one 5 stars because it got Charles’d, and because it deserves some stars!

“I only want a taste of your delicious midnights.”
3.5 stars. A fun, steamy monster romance between a non-magical witch and the winged nightmare woman who comes to her in her dreams and feeds on fear. There's a bit of backstory and plot about Natalia's family and their nefarious plots and all the things that she's doing to try to disentangle herself form them. I was also pleased to realise that this is in the same world as the author's other monster romance, and we saw glimpses of Dez and Mora. But mostly this is just a very sexy journey between Nox and Natalia, and it was so good, with a lot of sultry imagery and dark motifs. Natalia is learning as much as she can about Nox, and I really liked how fear, the facing of it and the embracing of it, played a part. I don't know, there's just something very appealing about a monster gf who will come rushing to your side every time she senses that you're terrified. I do wish that we had learnt more about Nox; this felt like Natalia's story more than anything. And the plot did feel thinner than it was in the first book. But I still had a really good time with this. The wold needs more sapphic monster romances.
None of it seems lonely when I know she’s out there, in some unknown darkness, thinking of me too.

This book didn't really work for me. I've been getting into a slump recently, and I keep on DNFing books, so the fact that I did finish this one is already a good thing. But the good things I can say about it end there. I am SUPER picky with spicy books because of how easily I get uncomfortable with the sexual scenes, and this one was SO cringey. I was physically recoiling because of cringey scenes and lines. I also didn't love the characters, I couldn't connect with them or care about them at all, which obviously spoiled my enjoyment of the book. Another thing that annoyed me mildly was how much I wish this book would've taken a step further in the monster…ness. This is always something that I feel reading monster romance, I always hope it gets REAL weird with the monster aspects, and very frequently it feels like a normal romance with a colorful person who happens to have wings. Do you know what I mean? I'm not sure I'm being very clear here. I know this is asking for a lot, but I am in an incessant search for a non-cringey monster romance that takes all the steps further and gets really monstrous. This one didn't do that for me, though, it left a lot to be desired

Love at Midnight…
Book 2 was so good too! Didn’t grab me as hard as book 1 did but once I got in I was hooked! I love the combination of sweet and spicy and scary and dark. The pull of the MCs is so strong in reading and in their bond. It’s so satisfying when the Monster goes soft and sweet and when the MC gains her self esteem and worth and stands up for herself. Not gonna lie one death is also very satisfying ;). Can’t wait for more!

While I loved Mora more than Nox, the writing and plot of this book are so much better and somehow made me bawl at the end? It's impressive to see how Green's skill as an author has grown from the opening lines of book one (not great) to the end of this (very great).

Midnight liaisons
I really liked this book and the nightmare monster FMC. Natalia was a woman with trauma from severe childhood abuse and trauma who was more afraid of her family than any nightmare creature. She was a perfect fit for Nox, the nightmare creature who wanted a taste of the human world without the nightmares. The chemistry was awesome and the tender moments on point.
I’m looking forward to the next book!

I wasn't hyped after the first book, it was enjoyable but it left me not that curious for the other books. As I happily read another series by Green, my curiosity was ignited and boy, I am so happy that I got back to the rest of these books.
She Came at Midnight feels more polished and developed. Lovely lore, characters and interactions. It got me hooked for the next one.

That was…..different. Good different. Like tasting a foreign cuisine or trying on a new pair of shoes. I needed to get used to the feel and/or taste. I like it though. The story was rousing and compelling.
I’ve read of mermaid coupling and it honestly did not sit well in my psyche. This one needed some getting used to but it was good nonetheless.

A sapphic human dancer x shadow nightmare monster romance. Loved Darva Green’s first creepy monster romance - the vibes were spot on and the romance really sweet. She came at midnight didnt quite work for me, unfortunately. I felt like their personalities werent really developed and the ambiance that I enjoyed in Swamp wasn’t quite present. Their personalities were also a bit flat and I just couldn't get into the plot at all. Still eagerly awaiting the next installment!

Buddy read with Moriah! I enjoyed this one, I liked the plot along with the spicy scenes (the use of Nox's shadows as ropes or blindfolds was glorious). Although, one pet peeve of mine with monster romances is when the monster acts too human-y, Nox was using a lot of human language and acting exactly like any mortal would except she had claws and wings. There wasn't enough world building for Nox as a character, it felt like she was a demon just for the sake of being a demon.
There is something about this one that didn't do it for me completely but I did enjoy it for the most part, I do plan on reading the rest of the books in this series because I just can't say no to a sapphic monster romance.

July 15, 2024The set up is very similar to the first book in the series in that a human woman has some abilities but wants to break free of her murder-happy family of magic wielders. She comes into contact with a Creature, and romance blooms.
It should work as well here as it did in book one, but the emotional beats are off. Natalia's actions and mood swings make no sense, and I ended up putting it down in a frustrated huff at 38%.

I read this in one sitting. If you want a sapphic read with monster smut and threats of the occult, give this novella a go. It is simply delicious.
