An Essential Primer on Mental Health for Christian leaders

The church is facing an epidemic of mental health issues in the post-COVID world. Ps. Tower and Dr. Verduin have done an excellent job of defining the issue, analyzing both its cause and impact, and laying out a formula for addressing mental health challenges in the context of Christian faith. Their “Resistance - Resilience - Recovery” framework provides language to discuss mental health challenges individuals may face. I appreciated the balanced approach between applying principles of faith and seeking medical / therapeutic care. I would highly recommend this to church leaders of any level - from Sunday greeters to kids’ teachers to people who serve and love their community to church staff and pastors. If you care for people, please read this. Your reading it might save someone’s life because you’re equipped to see the warning signs that they need professional help.

My first book about mental health and it unexpectedly helped me understand how our emotions work. While it is just a short read and does not cover a lot of other mental health issues, this did a great job in opening my mind to start taking care of my mental health.
