Bestselling author Hildie McQueen loves unusual situations and getting into interesting adventures, which is what her characters do as well. She writes romance because she is in love with love! Author of Romance in Highland historical, Western Historical and contemporary, she writes something every reader can enjoy.
Most days she can be found in her pajamas hiding from deliverymen while drinking tea from her David Gandy coffee mug. In the afternoons she browses the Internet for semi-nude men to post on Facebook.
Hildie's favorite past-times are romance conventions, traveling, shopping and reading.
She resides in beautiful small town Georgia with her super-hero husband Kurt, an unruly boy Chihuahua Pepito and a spoiled rotten girl Chiweenie named Lola.
It wasn't great but it was good. I didn't feel like I was reading Hildie McQueen though. It seemed a little off and was very short. I liked the hero, but the heroine cried way too much. I wanted her to stand up for herself and save herself but she was very meek. I liked how he picked her over the two other vain spoiled sisters. And he kept his promise.
Mundo is the second born Ross and brother to Laird Alexander. Lila is the bastard daughter of Laird MacKinnon enemy of the Ross Clan. The story these two weave is beautiful and unexpected
Great book. Start of the Clan Ross of Skye series. Lots of action and fun. I liked that Munro was a character and showed how honorable he was. The heroine Lila cried a lot and at first seemed to be weak but throughout all her trials and troubles she showed her inner strengths.
Damn, this was so close to being in the 'not bad, not good' territory. Idk this is the first book I've read from this Ross clan series and dang, I was expecting something else.
The description made me think the ML was to be cautious towards the FL and slowly see that she's not her family and her own person. The FL is obviously treated differently from her sisters and feels insecure. My guess does start to form, like the beginning is looking good but then we start roller-coasting.
I really don't like how wishy-washy the ML's feelings about his marriage and towards the FL were. It felt like a lot of changing circumstances and attitudes pulled suddenly on the FL where she just has to deal with. Like there's sympathy towards her but not enough for the other characters to actually step up and make her feel safe/welcomed besides the MLs mother. The ending is not satisfying, I feel like their relationship was kinda weak in the end. Like their first night just felt icky. There are so many elements that I love in a book present here but some of the directions taken with tropes and characters just did not work for me.
I found this an okay read, mainly because I was expecting a romance as advertised and didn’t really get one. There’s a lot of political intrigue and action happening, but we don’t get to see much of the romance develop between the main characters. I still have no idea why Munro was so determined to marry Lila except because he wanted to keep his word? And thought she was beautiful?
And Lila went back and forth between being a strong, independent woman to a meek woman who went along with the whims of everyone around her. I still don’t really have a good picture of her character in my head, and again, the only reason I could see why she fell for Munro is he was hot and kind to her. Which…not really a great romance.
Also, a lot of threads got tied up quickly and conveniently with little explanation (like why was the traitor the traitor? Are the sisters going to make a reappearance?), and the end fight was anticlimatic. I feel like a lot of threads and ideas were thrown into the story, but never really fully fleshed out, partly I think for worldbuilding and setting up later books in the series.
All in all, the story was well written, but the romance was not as much of a focus as I would expect from Hildie based on her other books. And I never got the chance to connect with the main characters due to so many moving pieces and random plot points added in and then dropped (I’m assuming some will come up in later books). I was left with a lot of questions and legitimately wondering why the main characters confessed their love for each other in the end beyond because now they’re stuck together till death do them part? Mainly I just felt underwhelmed by this story, especially having read some of Hildie’s other works. So I’d recommend checking out her work, just maybe not this one unless you’re committed to reading the whole series to get full answers and closure.
Munro couldn’t sleep he had to go out and look for the lost boy, along with his cousin Knox they set out. He was found down a ravine with a broken arm. He went to speak to his brother Laird Alexander Ross to let him know what had happened. Alexander wanted to talk with him, it seemed the MacKinnon laird was there with his daughters and were to forge a marriage between the clans to bring peace. The two MacKinnon daughters were both beautiful with curvy bodies but it was the third sister who was a half sibling that intrigued Munro the most. She was not treated as part of the family, dressing like a servant and even helping the servants with their tasks. Munro decided that is who he wanted to marry not the other two daughters. While eating their meal Laird MacKinnon voiced that they decide on who was to marry as he wanted to leave he had things to do. Munro gets up and heads to the front of the room and announces that he will marry one of the daughters. That she would stay there and a handfasting ceremony would take place. MacKinnon agreed as long as as the wedding took place in two months. Munro voiced that he wanted to marry Lila the half sibling. Laird MacKinnon wanted him to marry Penelope but Munro refused. He asked again before he left and again the answer was no. He asked that Penelope be allowed to stay with Lila and then left with his other daughter. He did not stay for the handfasting. They were handfasted but not without trouble following.
🥵 Alert, Alert😥Goodreads is showing the wrong cover for The Wolf by Hildie McQueen. Review for "The Wolf"(Clan Ross od Skye)
Family, Duty, Fascinating Love Story First off, this author amazes me how she can put down words on a page that while reading those words you can almost feel the emotions coming off the pages. The blossoming love, the gripping difficulties, the sadness, the heartfelt kindness that brings this story where it is worth more than the 5-star rating. I can't say enough about this deeply all-encompassing emotional love story that Munro and Lila give us in their story. They are certainly two wonderful and charismatic characters that you can't help but feel all of their struggles, and there are many before they reach a beautiful and happy ending. I read this book in one day. You just don't want to depart from the gripping story until the very end where there are a few leads to more of Clan Ross. ♥Special Mention: The amazing archers for adding some thrills and Munro's wolf hounds. I love it when an author has devoted pets in a story. ✔Adult Advisory
Beauty that refused to be hidden Lila Mackinnon is the illegitimate daughter of the Laird Mackinnon who suffers from mental illness like his father before him! To form a truce one of the Ross brothers Munro was picked up marry to unite the clans! When Munro was given a choice he saw the inward beauty of Lila instead of the outward beauty of her 2 sisters who only looked after themselves! Lila made some foolish choices but sorely mistreated after her mother’s death at times she seems naive and starved for affection! Why would you trust your sister who only treated you like a servant! Munro is a strong book boyfriend who handsome compassionate and a little lusty! He is loyal and willing to give Lila a chance he is just slow at demanding the clan respect her! Lila cries quite a bit in this story! When Lila is attacked and injured Munro proves with deeds his affections are engaged! Bravo 4.5
Munro & Lila. I think Hildie did a great job with portraying Lila as the unwanted outsider. It was heartbreaking but real. She was the bastard daughter of the MacKinnon clan's laird. The laird is a cruel man and has like zero integrity. He would attack Clan Ross. All deals for peace would be broken by MacKinnon. IOW - he was crazy. In the last attempt at a peace settlement, the MacKinnon wanted on of the Ross boys to marry one of his daughters. His 2 legitimate daughters were beautiful but had ugly hearts. Lila was more reserved and in desperate want to have a place she would be welcomed to. Munro was attracted to her and he chose to marry Lila. The MacKinnon was angry because he wanted one of them to marry one of his other daughters.
The story of this book moved well. It was a short refreshing read. Not too heavy but with enough to satisfy the reading bug.

I think this might be one of my favorite Hildie McQueen highland romances. While this is a short book, under 200 pages, both characters weren't just loveable, they had personalities that didn't feel like a caricature like can sometimes happen. Lila cried often and got emotional, but she was painted as some weepy woman, but as someone who had been through a lot and just needed to release that emotion. Munro was also very dutiful and caring and protective, without being this overly masculine and strong guy. He was all of those things, but also gentle in the way he cared for Lila and their romance was so sweet! This story was just what I needed, and I can't wait for the next one in the book!
I've read some real doozies on Kindle Unlimited of late (no blue little people mentioned or anything), so it was a pleasant surprise to read something that was not full of errors, typos and missing words. Although I think there could have been a little more depth in some of the characters perhaps. And the whole introduction to Freya and her brother should have been left to the next book as it took up space in an already too short book imo.
I personally prefer a longer book, but it was a good quick read and continues into the next instalment, so off I go.....
I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book but I have to pay for the subscription)
The MacKinnons and the Ross clan have been fighting for years. A marriage between the two clans has been proposed to finally have peace. One of the Ross son’s must marry one of the MacKinnon daughters. Munro Ross steps up and chooses Lila MacKinnon, the bastard daughter to the MacKinnon Laird. However, MacKinnon has never kept to any agreement with Ross and this is no exception. He has other plans. There is a lot packed into this book. A feud, family betrayal, lack of trust, new love, passion, and a strong Ross family bond. I loved Munro!
I wanted something light and funny with only a bit of spice. In a search, this author came up. And I do not get the appeal of her books. I found the FMC to be pathetic. All she does is cry. She has zero agency, and zero growth. And I don’t know why this came up as being funny because it is not at all. There isn’t a lot of spice, but good lord, what is there is so cliche and outdated I had to check the publication date. I’m only giving it a star because the MMC wasn’t terrible and there were two supporting FC that I liked. This was definitely not for me.
This is a fast moving story and very entertaining. Munroe agrees to marry one of their enemies daughters. to everyone's surprise he chooses the the bastard daughter. Lila is nothing but a servant in her fathers home and her half sisters though beautiful are ugly on the inside. Lila will have to unsure Clans Ross' hate of her just because of who sired her an Munroe will need to protect her from his own clan.
The Wolf is book 1 in Hildie McQueen's new series, Clan Ross of Skye.
Munro Ross, brother to the laird, agrees to marry Lila MacKinnon, the downtrodden daughter of his clan's arch-nemesis. But even though he chose her over her conniving sisters, he is still suspicious of Lila and fails to protect her as he should. Even in the Ross household, she ends up on the receiving end of some horrendous physical violence, although not from Munro or his immediate family, and the perpetrators are harshly punished.
Filled with action and betrayals, The Wolf kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. My only problem with this book is that I would have liked to have seen more interactions between Munro and Lila, but that wish was somewhat satisfied with the epilogue at the end of the book.
I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series to see what he author has in store for Clan Ross.
A little stunned at how low quality the writing is
Where is the character development? We know nothing about the hero, his personality, what he looks like, etc. The writing is just not practiced. Is this the author's first novel? Then it would make sense Why are they so many good reviews? I don't get it
This book is nicely written but the plot could have been better. Two wicked step sisters, a cruel father, instead of the wicked step mother, and a handsome prince. The prince and Cinderella, aka Lila, fall in love. The cruel father kills himself and they live happily ever after. The end. Moving on to book two and hoping it's a better story line.
Munro, the second oldest son of the Ross clan, offers hand fasting himself to a MacKinnan enemy clan as a truce between them. Munro chooses, Lila, although her father is not happy with Munro’s choice as she is his common illegitimate daughter The truce is broken by the MacKinnan clan leader who ultimately dies while Munro and Lila marry and have their hea
I'm not sure if it's just the Kindle edition, but there were so many grammatical errors it made reading the book difficult. The book also seemed to just end and start into the next book without warning. Also, a lot of crying by the heroine, which was rather annoying by the end.
I enjoyed the start of a new series. The trope was a good one and the characters well-written. I look forward to reading the future books in this series.
Why is the title? The wolf only reference to a wolf is at the end gray eyes? I like the story, but the characters seems like they were dropped and unfinished.
